Consider this place like a diner. Sure, you have options but you come here for one thing: Mallorca. This restaurant has been open since the 1940's and they haven't changed. Service is prompt, environment is lively. I highly recommend coming here at 7AM the day you leave, otherwise you'll have to wait a queue. The line There are no fancy coffee drinks. It's coffee, milk, and sugar. I got the Mallorca with eggs, ham, and cheese with a small glass of jugo de china. It was an incredible way to start the day.
I have been coming here for years but recently I have been sat with the gentleman (waiter) in photo and he is the absolute worse. Today I came in with my family of 4 and ordered 4 sandwiches. He told me those are too many sandwiches to Order and he can't make them. He instructed me to order them at another counter. Last year he was too busy socializing and waited 20 minutes for him to finally take my order. Unfortunately I will not be coming back. He is rude! Don't get me wrong the food is good but unfortunately the service from this person ruined the entire experience.
Best Mallorca in PR. Consistently delicious. Worth the trip to visit Puerto Rico. Coffee and food is spot on. Da best
Walked in here at ~8:15am for breakfast. There was not a lot of people yet; we were seated at the bar. After a few minutes, people started trickling down and soon the place was close to being full. I liked the mallorca with ham, bacon, cheese! It was delicious. They looked small but they were filling. The pastries displayed at the window were inviting. If you're dining in, you have to tell your server that you're getting some pastries that are on display then you ask the person at the counter who also serves as the cashier to get them for you. The guava pastry was good. The vanilla bread with strawberry and pineapple/lemon was okay. They looked better than they tasted in my opinion. Payment for everything would be at the cashier after dining. If you're in San Juan, this is a place to try!

Seating: Inside seating, plenty of seating but just gets pretty busy because of how popular this place is. Vibes: Welcome to Old San Juan! Heart of Puerto Rico but also a very touristy spot as well. The attitude changes based on the time of day. When it comes to the early/mid day - brekkie/brunch busy. The spot itself was nothing too flashy just your authentic morning coffee shop with servers busy serving people. Great place to chill, chat, and start up your day. FOOD / DRINKS Mallorca - Regular (Recommend) A mallorca is basically a sweet bread but this one is most known for their ham and cheese. We tried getting their as early as possible but they were backed so we had the regular which was a soft, fluffy, and slightly sweet but powdered with sugar. A nice morning boost of energy to start the day. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Gotta respect the employees for handling the busy rushes time in and out. TL;DR OVERALL 4 Stars. Good food, reasonable prices, and a pleasant experience. A must-try Old San Juan experience. You can get mallorcas in other places but the history here is pretty nice. This spot we had seen on social media a ton for being famous for their Mallorca sandwich, a special type bread, we got the one with bacon & American cheese. Man, I made the mistake of doing the bacon instead of ham, overthought that deal. I tried my buddies with ham n cheese and I think that was way to go. I loved how this spot had that super old school feel of like a diner. You can sit at one of the table tops, or you can do the countertop too, which has tons of seats, we all were able to sit there. I'd 100% recommend this spot, but get the ham n cheese mallorca sandwich, don't overthink it.
Stopped by for breakfast on a Tuesday morning around 8am. It wasn't busy at all when we arrived and we immediately got a table. We ordered two coffees, cheese Mallorca, Swiss Mallorca, coconut macaroon, and Mallorca bread. The coffees were small but mighty. Cheese Mallorcas were delicious and we slightly favored the Swiss version. I'd get it with ham next time. Super simple. Sweet and savory. From the pastry window, we picked up a Mallorca bread with powered sugar which was amazing. The bread was SO soft and fluffy. Very similar to Japanese milk bread. We also got a coconut macaroon which has a bit of lemon flavor to it. Also good, very sweet. I'd definitely come back and highly recommend!
We were recommended this spot by a local - and we are so glad we came to Old San Juan to find it! We arrived just after 8am for good reason, the place fills up so quick! We sat at the bar top for quick service! You must try the famous Mallorca with ham and cheese - this light flufffy pastry like sandwich is delectable. The perfect balance of sweet and savory. Everything was served on paper plates and plastic cups... nothing fancy, just fantastic food and great local coffee. The service was quick, friendly and yes, he spoke little English but it was quite easy to understand as we don't speak Spanish.
What a charming old-school diner. We were staying around the corner and had walked by a few times in the evenings, when they are closed. I had seen recommendations to try the Mallorcas, so we came back early one morning before 8 AM as we had to catch a tour bus. At that hour it was pretty empty, just the waiter, a cashier, a handful of older gentlemen hanging out, and a couple of tourist groups like ourselves. We all ordered Mallorcas, which are basically breakfast sandwiches of soft thin bread rolls (Mallorcas) with powdered sugar, but come in variations with egg, cheese, ham, bacon, etc. Get any of the variants - not the plain ones, which I don't think come toasted - as they crisp them first with the fillings, then sprinkle the sugar. They were pretty good and cheaper than most other breakfasts we tried in the area. The next morning, we even tried to came back, but it was PACKED at 9 AM so we wandered down to El Meson (fast food) and were sorely disappointed at their version of Mallorcas (to be fair it was dirt cheap there), so I would stick to Cafe Mallorca but COME EARLY! Ambience was old school diner with a long counter and vintage photos of Mallorca and Old San Juan. I wish they would use real plates and cutlery instead of the disposable stuff we found prevalent in PR. Oh and the coffee is nothing special so you fill have to get your espressos or lattes somewhere else.... Oh and the bakery case was filled with what looked like delectable treats but unfortunately we did not get to try those (other than the mallorcas)... next time!

Plus no air. Server moves like a sloth. Got our order of 4 Mallorcas and 2 coffees wrong. Plus they nuke the coffee. To pay, you are back in 1975 on a long line with the cashier marking every sale in a marble book. And she moves like a snail. All the charm is gone. Mallorca bread is delicious, but it just. Ain't. Worth it.
Must visit while in PR for a quick authentic breakfast experience. Beware, there is usually a long line, however it moves super quick due to the quick service. Their breakfast sandwiches are made right on the spot with fresh mallorcas. Their lemonade and orange juice are also to die for! Freshly squeezed! They are also pretty cheap, in comparison to other options in the area. The hype around this place is definitely worth it, making it a must try!
The sandwich was a 20/10. I saw it in a video and said huh? A what? But you must go try it for yourself. The dining room can get crowded, its seat yourself and then get served, but service was rather quick. Think casual dining. You check out on your way out where you can grab pastries to go as well.
This place was incredible. I was hesitant at first but then I saw the mallorcas on the menu and it was incredible. I have never had them before and when I saw the line out the door it was time to try it. The service was fast and it had kind of a homey vibe to it. Would come back.
I guess Mallorca is a traditional sweet bread with powdered sugar on top. Our funny waiter who speaks lightning fast Spanish but also does pretty well with English gave us samples of Mallorca. We ordered more with bacon, egg, cheese, and some with ham and cheese. They were serving lunch so we tried the Pernïl and rice and beans. We also got a salmon plate and a chicken cacciatore cooked in Spanish rice. The restaurant is old and very unassuming, but it doesn't stop the crowds of people to come and visit and see old San Juan history which this building has to be part of. It's not glamorous but you feel like you transported back into the very early years of Old San Juan when maybe it was still just San Juan. read more

A MUST if you're staying in Old San Juan!! The greatest breakfast in a really traditional old-school cafeteria. Pictures of Old San Juan in the early 1900s line the walls to show how little the town has changed in the past century, and Mallorca Cafetería is a gem that has withstood the test of time. Definitely an affordable breakfast as the most expensive mallorca is still under $10. Cafe con leche in styrofoam cups is a staple that is great even in the heat. Definitely worth getting a cup of orange juice as it is freshly squeezed to order. During my stay in Puerto Rico I had several mallorcas around the island but none come close to what I consider the original. Pressed and doused in powdered sugar it's surprisingly both light and filling. We had tried coming at around 9a the previous day and there was already a long line outside so we chose go to somewhere else but made sure we were out the door by 6:30a the next day to get to Mallorca before it opened and there was still a bit of a line. We were able to get in and situate ourselves once they opened at 7a; there are lots of small tables with chairs which we chose because we had a larger group but if dining solo or with one person it's definitely a great experience to sit at the bar for a more traditional feel. Again, this is a must for me every time I am in San Juan and I'm happy to carve out some time for one of the greatest breakfasts you can have. Would rate ten stars if it were possible. read more

This is quite literally the best surprise I've ever experienced. This constantly comes up as as a must try when in San Juan and there's a line out the door to prove it. Inside, it's a typical cafeteria type restaurant and the poor server we had had a lot of tables to take care of so service was slow but the sandwich is WELL worth the wait. I tried the egg ham and cheese Mallorca. Delicious!! read more
Foods are great it's a mom and pops place very popular here in San Juan Puerto Rico but you need to stretched out your patience waiting to get your order and for your orders to be served as well only 2 servers getting in all the orders and serving for the price is just right food is good cleanliness i would say 2 stars service is 1 star foods are 4 stars even mom and pops breakfast and brunch place need to step up just saying but of-course first time visitors need to try this read more
Excellent food, DELICIOUS coffee, and friendly service. Mallorca is firing on all cylinders. The waiters are doing everything from making coffees to order, cooking food, chopping fruit, taking orders, all while doing it with a smile on their face in an authentically Puerto Rican space. Highly recommend for people looking for a delicious breakfast/brunch meal without all the fuss. Be sure to tip the waiters handsomely-they're working SO hard. read more

We arrived at 11:00 am on a Friday morning. Since all of the tables were full we sat at two barstools at the bar. A server slid some menus down to us and by 11:15 we were still waiting (and attempting to get the servers attention). When a table opened up, we asked if we could move to it. They said yes. We then flagged down a server to say we were ready to order. He said ok and kept walking. After being ignored for another 15 min, we finally were able to place an our order. We both got coffee, juice and a Mallorca con queso huevo y Jamon. Mine did not have egg. The server did get us another one. Overall the food was ok and the service was so bad that I can't recommend this place nor will I return read more
High recommended breakfast place so we finally got there around 11am. Very busy but we were lucky to get a small table to sit down. We weren't sure how to order as it was quite confused with a long line inside the restaurant and people waiting everywhere. You found an empty table, sit down. Then waiter would come around and pass you the menu. You order and got your food. When you are ready to pay, tell the waiter, he would bring the paper hand written bill. You will wait in line to pay and can purchase some bakery to go too. Both dishes we ordered were delicious, I love their ham, not too salty & definitely has other flavor with it; just a great combination to eat with pancake & syrup. A local place for some breakfast time but either come early or after 1pm, otherwise prepare to wait quite a bit. read more
Cafe Mallorca was our first stop after we landed in San Juan. We wanted to start off the trip strong with a quick breakfast bite to eat and good coffee. For those driving in, there is an inexpensive parking lot just up the block from this restaurant. Food: everything looked incredible while it was coming out. We asked for the separate breakfast menu and knew we had to order the namesake. We got to Mallorca sandwiches with ham, eggs, and cheese. It was exactly what we wanted, best one on the island that I had. It was buttery, soft, filling, and delicious. Paired with one of their coffee's which are strong but so good, it was perfect. We also ordered a quesito to go, I highly recommend doing this. They are so flaky and filled with that sweet dreamy cream cheese. We ate it much later in the day and it was still as fresh as when we bought it. Ambiance is no frills. Service isn't super fast but you are on island time so let them come to you when they are ready. Sitting at the bar is quicker. The lines move quickly - so don't get discouraged if there is one. read more

We went around 9am to find a long line outside! But we were determined to wait, and the line moved fast so glad we did. The experience was unique and felt like you were experiencing a little piece of history. Despite a bustling energy filling the room, the staff takes care to make you feel welcomed. We sat at the bar and had excellent service. We both ordered Mallorca with ham, cheese, egg + cafe con leche. It did not disappoint! read more

Mallorca is tucked into an older building that adds a bit of charm to the experience. The service was a little confusing at first -- no clear direction on where to sit and only a couple of servers handling everything, which led to longer wait times. That said, it had a laid-back, local vibe that made it feel authentic rather than fancy. I tried the Mallorca with Swiss cheese and ham, and it was absolutely delicious -- warm, soft, sugary and just the right balance of sweet and savory. The orange juice tasted freshly squeezed and paired perfectly. Overall, a solid stop for a quick snack and a taste of a true Puerto Rican classic. read more

Situated in beautiful old San Juan, Mallorca serves delicious sandwiches topped with a healthy dose of powdered sugar. While service can be slow at times, we found the staff to be pleasant and engaging though I can't imagine how busy this place would be on the weekends. The mallorca was good, not amazing, and what we actually found was that we really liked the bread separately - instead of with the meats. read more

Simply amazing. This place is quaint, old school charm and the service and food are amazing!!!! Been waiting a year to come here as last visit we came too late and they had just closed. Get here early if you want breakfast. Make sure you get a quesito! read more

Food: Was GREAT! The cheese was melted perfectly, ham was not salty, bread was soft and sweet; couldn't ask for a better sandwich! Pina colada was good, not overly sweet and blended well. Now for the reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. Service: The lack of acknowledgment and his slow it took was unacceptable for just a sandwich. Customer service isn't a thing here. Waiter seemed irritated we asked the table to wiped down even though there were plates and powder sugar left from the previous guests. Having 2 servers for the whole restaurant was fine it was the fact it took over an hour to complete. read more
My friend and I got a bunch of pastries to go based on a local's suggestion and 1/2 of them were good but the other 1/2 were only okay or not enjoyable. The traditional Mallorca and the apple danish thing was good, the cream cheese muffin and cherry danish were the best treats! The crescent (tasteless) and apricot danish were the worst items and no one wanted to finish them. read more

This is what eating at a Puerto Rican home feels like --it's authentic and local. They're even serving your food on a paper plate like you're at a family potluck! I knew that I wanted the mallorca since this spot is named after the popular dish. Since we came at 1pm, they gave us a lunch menu but I was still able to order the Ham and Cheese Mallorca. We also ordered the Pernil (pork shoulder roast with rice and plantains). Both dishes were super delicious. I loved the combination of the sweet mallorca sandwiching the savoriness of ham and cheese in the middle. This is an absolute must get here! I also really enjoyed the pernil, which is the perfect plate consisting of a bit everything. The pork was tender and the skin was crunchy. Everything is so delicious and affordable. It feels like eating at home here. Although service was a bit slow and the cashier was a bit rude, it's almost part of the charm here. read more
