A friend and I stopped in hoping to get some decent food for a late lunch. The mullet was dark brown, OLD and lousy. We barely touched it as it was INEDIBLE. The fried mushrooms were coated in so much breading and tasteless after peeling off the breading we did not eat those either. Both items were fried in old grease ( old grease affects the color). The salad was comprised of wilted, limp l lettuce & it was the Greek salad for three dollars extra! We did not eat it either. YUC! read more

Well, this is not someplace I'd go out of the way for at all. I ordered the shrimp and grits and there's just WAY too much stuff on it that just isn't necessary. How about just SHRIMP and GRITS and leave off all the other crap. There was nothing spectacular about any of the food. Tiny scallops, super thick fish dip that was sent back by the person ordering it because it was over-powered with chunks of onion and almost too thick to even spread on a cracker. If there is a next time, I'll just get some simple grouper and nothing smothered in sauce or too many toppings so you can actually taste the food. read more

Tropical Trader is nothing if not inconsistent. Once - just once - we had a fantastic breakfast there. Once, we had a fantastic lunch. But mostly, we've had nothing but poor experiences. The grits were drowning in oil, as was pretty much everything else, even though we'd said "Easy easy on the oil please." Everything but the iced tea was over-salted. The iced tea was the cheapest sort, musky and old tasting. Oysters, which we'd been looking forward to, were over-priced and tasted like they'd been shucked earlier in the day, then left out on ice. If the bacon-wrapped scallops had any more seasoning, they'd have been inedible. I ordered a grilled shrimp kabob, no salt, no seasoning - I even took a photo because what came was completely encrusted in poor man's Cajun seasoning, drowned in unidentifiable cheesy stuff (Velveeta?), over-cooked, and surrounded by canned pineapple and one large slice of cooked pineapple. The service is variable, to put it politely. The atmosphere? Local bar trying to look upscale while attempting to keep the old customers. I was given to understand it's owned by Angelo's, possibly to have a less "upscale" place in the area (one opinion), possibly to escape some of the scathing reviews for Angelo's (another opinion). I don't really care who owns it; I care about clean restrooms, food that doesn't taste like I bought it at Denny's, and consistency. But that's just my humble opinion. If you want great oysters, go to Mad Anthony's. At least they're shucked fresh. Or head over to Up the Creek in Carabelle. Even Posey's in Panacea, which is also inconsistent but at least shucks fresh. read more

Went to late dinner with family and we all ordered the fish and chips. The waitress told us the fish would be Cod. The fish was the slimiest fish we had ever eaten. It was either frozen beforehand or was something other than cod. read more

Food was great. Our group had for appetizers conch fritters, bacon wrapped shrimp, shrimp and blue crab cake, fried blue crabs and oysters on the half shell. For dinner whole Maine lobster and their shrimp and crab dinner special. Everything was excellent. Try the house greek salad dressing. It was wonderful. The restaurant is busy so you have to wait a little for your food but it was worth the wait. Very casual restaurant. The only reason I rated it a four instead of a five was there was not a wine selection. Just one house brand. Give them a try you won't be disappointed. read more

local place , not fancy but clean . everyone seemed to know each other and were having fun. our waitress, Susan was attentive and cheerful. LOCAL oysters were great, sweet and juicy. scallop and flounder platter was delicious. gently fried, slightly crispy not greasy. shrimp and grits were OK. ....not really hot enough to melt the cheese but it will be good warmed up the next day for lunch. would definately recommend going there. read more

I went there after a day at the beach and everything was completely over priced for the actual quality of the food. I ordered the shrimp and grits and asked for no tomatoes on top and the waitress brought out shrimp and grits without any toppings (supposed to be bacon, cheese onions and some green sauce) but there was no toppings and she claimed that I said I didn't want any toppings but that wasn't true because I only asked for no tomatoes. So on top of that the grits were very soupy and chunky and it had a very gross flavor. If you're going out to eat at a place where your dinner costs 14 dollars then it better be made to please the customer because in the end they're paying you to make the food. read more

We ate here during our vacation based on the good reviews and were not disappointed! My husband agreed with previous reviewer that the Shrimp tacos were the best he's ever had. I had the grilled shrimp kebabs with pineapple and loved them. Good service and casual atmosphere. read more

Our visit to Tropical Trader Shrimp was a pleasant surprise. The establishment was island like and friendly. Our dishes were expertly prepared, juicy, tasty, without a hint of fishiness. The addition of a fresh Greek salad over it produced an incredible taste. We loved it. read more

The Greek burger in this small town diner was great! Friendly staff. Lots of fresh seafood. We bought some smoked Mahi Mahi dip to go. The homemade salad dressing was a hit too. Note: They are one of the only places in town that are open on Mondays. read more

We have been here many times and recommended it to others. Stopped on our way home from the beach for a much awaited dinner with the grands, who have also been here other times. Cane away all dissatisfied but one. Told to seat ourselves, which we did. Waited a bit for our server. Ordered onion rings, which I know are hand cut so take a little longer, but it was loooong. Once received we had no plates or silverware and had to eat on paper towels, not great with the yum yum all over it. Finally got our server and got silverware, but no plates offered. Food took way longer then usual and it was not that busy. Server had to be reminded that one of the grands still had fries to come. Hubbie ordered grilled grouper fingers sandwich, which came fried and had to be replaced. I ordered greek potatoes and found they were not available. We hated the grouper. I mentioned to the server that I had never seen it served like that with onions and stuff all over it and that I did not like it. She just said I'm sorry. Then I found the tiny shrimp on my platter were just gummed together by breading in a string. Terrible. Then I finally said that's it and sent it back. She offered to take off half. Really everything was sub-par yesterday, the grits, the butterbeans, everything. She went through the desserts and we ordered coconut and strawberry. Came back - no coconut. Servers should know what is available unless you just sold the last piece. No Key Lime. our first choice. After all that a measly $10 was taken off our bill. The prices here are high anyway. So no going again, which is sad. read more

This place has some of the best food in the area. The calamari with yum yum sauce is excellent. The service is consistently good, the staff is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. My only complaint is that sometimes the food can be a bit salty. read more

10/02/2015 My Daughter called and said she wanted to go here for her 50 Birthday, so her husband (a Fine Man) my Wife, and myself went. Let me put it this way we did not leave hungry, all of our orders were delicious and prepared to perfection. Raw oysters had good salty taste and the right size for a cracker and sauce. Waitress was very friendly and knew the menu well, and attentive to our needs. The appetizer we shared was smoke fish with a side on of Greek sauce (good stuff) and hot chips. My Wife ordered mullet and we all had to help her eat them ($10) Daughter got the tempura jumbo shrimp, Son got blackened plate, and of course I had the special of the day plater broiled . All our entrees were spot on and made our evening very pleasant. The Family Friendly restaurant lives up to its name on this Friday night but I throw away those five stars and give them a GOLD CROWN. thank you for a wonderful evening out. read more

My wife and I were traveling down 98 heading toward Port Richey and it was her birthday and she wanted shrimp. We saw this place and hit the jackpot! This place isn't fancy, it's the real deal. You know that when there is a guy shucking oysters behind the bar and a counter where you can buy fresh shrimp to go.My wife had the fried shrimp basket and I had them broiled. Both were outstanding! The sides were incredible. Greek potatoes, coleslaw, cheese grits and Lima beans. These were not an after thought. These were homemade with a lot of love. Yes I did say Lima beans and they were the bomb! Simmered with garlic in there own juices. Did I mention the baskets also came with homemade hush puppies. Sarah G. was our server and what a sweetheart! She made us feel like we were home. We washed it all down with a local brew for $2.50 a frosty glass. My wife and I agreed it was perfect!
