I've used Troutwine before for something inside the house, simply great service. This time I needed a repair to my main line. NORM showed up quickly to assess the situation and gave me a fair quote. Everything seems high these days, but still, I know it was fair to both him and me. TINO and JACOB showed up right on time to get the job done. These guys worked efficiently, tirelessly and every time I check in on 'em I noticed things that were done extremely properly. Not just "git 'er done" but every step of the was done worth signing their name on. They were both clean, polite, perfectly professional and actually fun to talk with and be around. Bad experience! I was ripped off - still awaiting my refund which was promised! A tech came & estimated repairs to be $1,700 - thought they'd need to open wall on other side of bathtub. They wanted 1/2 the day of the estimate, $850. The day of the repair, 2 techs were in and out in 45 mins. and no need to open wall. I paid the next 1/2 of $850. But I called Norm, the owner to advise him that $1,700 for a 45-min. job to replace a tub spout and waste & overflow was excessive and unethical! After many phone calls , Norm told me he would be refunding the second $850. However, it's been a week and I still haven't received the refund. Use caution if hiring Troutwine Plumbing. The job was done on May 28th. 2026 and on June 8, 2026, I finally received a partial refund . Issue resolved. read more

Norm and his team do great work at a fair price and work with the customers schedule to make sure the customer is happy. I called them out for an issue that should have been fixed with a new regulator. After they installed it, I called them to come back out as our issue was not resolved. They came right back out within one week and when the first truck with two technicians were unable to fix it, Norm showed up in a separate truck. They were at my house for over an hour and a half and diagnosed the issue to be something that DWP needed to address. They didn't charge me for the second visit which is unheard of. Having dealt with tradesmen for decades, this was a first for me. I will only deal with them for any plumbing issue going forward. read more

When Troutwine let me know they could come out the following day, even though it was a Saturday, I was delighted since I had been told by another company that a week was the best they could do. The plumber came out a couple of hours later than promised, but he called and updated us which really helped. Our toilet was not only overflowing, but also leaking from the base whenever the toilet was flushed, and then black water would geyser from the tub as well. The work was done in a timely manner, and it continues to function as it should. Troutwine was recommended to me by my dentist, and I would recommend them to anyone who needed plumbing work done. I had one plumber come out and he first grossly over-estimated the cost of what need to be done and then I found him out front, (our situation was in the back,) putting a camera snake down to show me roots in the line then continued to add on little items to job that was not needed, and then on top of that tried pressuring me to start the work. He was going to bill me $7,500. I knew they were jacking me off with inflated pricing. I called Troutwine Plumbing through another reference. They came out, assessed the situation then told me what I really needed. They didn't keep adding un-necessary items to jack up the work, and honestly told me what I needed. in 2011 Troutwine replaced a sewer ejector pump with a Zoeller 267, list price $430, their price $750 plus labor. In July 2019 Troutwine replaced that pump with a Liberty pump, total cost about $1400 (I can't find the receipt). Last week it stopped working so Troutwine pulls the pump out and tell me they need to replace it with a Zoeller because Liberty grinder have plastic grinder blades and Zoeller steel. The guys call Norm and tell him what is going on. Norm says the pump only has one year warranty, Liberty says their pumps have a 3 year warrant. He tells his guys replacement will cost a staggering $2400! I decline thinking I'm going do the job myself. So I found a new Zoeller pump for $550, but I thought I'd better take a look at the old pump. I put on a bench, plugged in, lifted the float, the motor ran but the (STAINLESS STEEL) grinder blade was binding. I took the blade off, tested the motor again no problem.After putting a washer under the blade I checked the pump and it runs perfectly. That repair took less than 10 minutes. I reinstalled the old Liberty pump in about 1 hour. Installing a new pump would have taken another 30 minutes. They lied about Liberty pump grinders being plastic they're stainless steel, didn't bother to look at the intake to see if there was an obvious problem and then tried to stick to me . Was the new pump going to be gold plated? read more

We've had three different plumbing companies come to our house and tell us they couldn't do anything about our slow drains and an odd smell coming from the basement, one even suggested that it was a build-up in our pipes and we'd need to replace them :( And THEN we found Troutwine Plumbing! They came out and took care of all of our issues, our sinks and tubs drain now and they've ordered parts to fix the pump in the basement. I was referred to Troutwine Plumbing from another plumber who I really respect. I texted Mr. Troutwine and was scheduled to have my tankless water heater serviced. The guys who came out were super nice and seemed to know what they were doing. Unfortunately they did not know what they were doing and after over an hour assured me it was working properly. I asked about the igniter and they assured me that was not the problem. Within 24 hours the tankless water heater was exhibiting the same problem. I contacted a recommended plumber from the tankless hot water heater manufacturer and within 5 minutes they diagnosed a bad igniter and replaced it. Now the unit works great. I contacted Mr. Troutwine and he apologized for the situation said he would talk to his guys and get back to me with a refund amount (his guys did a few other plumbing things in my house). I reached out after a week beyond when Mr. Troutwine said he would call me back ( no response) and then a another week later (again no response). While I do appreciate the attitude of Mr. Troutwine's team and professionalism if you say you are going to review the situation and offer a potential refund and do not return the texts or calls that is bad business and I would not recommend Troutwine Plumbing. read more

We recently moved into a new home that had a sewage line burst (!) and we called Troutwine based on a recommendation from a friend. They came out and did an emergency snake and then replaced the burst pipe in our front yard a week or so later. They correctly diagnosed the issue, worked with the various departments (Electrical, Gas, etc.) that needed to sign off on the dig/work and then completed it in very timely and professional manner. We also had them clear out our drain pipes just to be safe before the rainy season as well. That went very smoothly too. They really delivered when we needed them, and their team came across as seasoned, knowledgeable guys. They were friendly and very easy to work with throughout the process too. It's not as though replumbing your house is anything you would look forward to doing, which is why I put it off for so long, but Norm Troutwine and his crew made it as painless as possible. There were some delays in getting it finished due to staffing issues, but Norm kept us informed every morning so we knew what to expect. The crews were very nice to have around. They laid down protective paper on the floors daily and cleaned it up every night before they left, including sweeping up. I told them they didn't need to take up the paper but they said they didn't want to take a chance on the tape marring the floors. As promised we had 'working toilets' every night when they left. Where they did have to open the walls, the dry wall work was terrific. The exterior wall by the front door, the re-stucco work was so good I honestly didn't notice it at first, it blended in perfectly. You might be able to get it done for less but you want someone with a strong reputation who will be there on the off chance that there's a problem. Not so sure how readily that would happen with a larger company. Support California based small businesses! read more

I wanted to give them a great review after all the work they've done for us but the lack of communication is ridiculous. Following a huge job we paid a lot for, we've had multiple issues resulting in huge water bills; seams busting, pin hole leaks, etc, and yet they don't seem concerned enough to fix the problem. Started out when one of the troutwine boys lost his day planner in W.H. and i returned it to him a few days later, he gave a $100 tip for my efforts and in return i've given him 25+ years of business with my home and rental properties in return! Good plumbers are nearly impossible to find but I've gone with Troutwine two times now for pretty major jobs and am so pleased that I'm writing a review. Norm came out right away to take a look at the problem and then provided an accurate estimate that didn't then later change. His crew was exceptionally polite, did excellent work, showed me everything in detail, cleaned up completely -- basically everything you'd want anyone you hired to be. And they (the crew) like who they work for (their boss, the company owner), which is a really good indicator that you're working with a reputable company. Guy comes over to fix leaky faucets ( bathroom and kitchen) set up through our property manager. Comes checks things out for a bid. Comes back with the cheapest faucets he could find. Put it all in while i was at work. Bathroom- takes out the old. Puts in this cheap piece of shit that will probly leak in a year and doesnt bother to even whip off the sink from the old ring. Just installs the new one rite on top. Kitchen- takes out old faucet with sprayer puts in another cheap piece of shit and that is loose and clanges around and takes our sprayer away. Neither one even has a name brand on it. One step above plastic covered chrome. No consideration that we like having a sprayer. Now left with garbage that i will replace on my own. Took advantage of the property company and my girlfriend. Im not a plumber but i will have to do a better job on my own. Its not hard sir!!I what is hard to find is people who care anymore.
