Stopped in here late on a Monday night for dinner with a friend and was very happy with the food. I had a gyro and greek fries and while the fries were missing some feta they were good and plentiful. The gyro was huge and packed with meat which is a plus. I wish they had some baba but I wont hold it against them. They required proof of vax and while I am not a fan of that I complied and showed mine. Service was good, coke was a little flat but the food came out good and hot and at a decent price for what we got, that's all anyone can ask for. I will return with more friends and try other dishes. I had takeout from here previously and had a good experience with the food although it was a bit on the pricey side. Even still, I decided to order food from Troy for a small party that I was hosting. After calling the restaurant and confirming that the combo platter included falafel (the individual on the phone said 8-10 pieces), I ordered a combo appetizer and an additional 12 pieces of falafel. When I picked up the order, I foolishly brought it home without checking it and found that I only had 12 falafel (in addition to the dips and the pita bread). I called the restaurant indicating that I was missing a part of my order because I had ordered the combo appetizer and an extra 12 falafel. He said that the combo appetizer only includes dolmas and does not include any falafel...even though the website and the person I spoke to previously said it was included. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is impeccable! Whether you order the gyros plate, lemon chicken or any sandwich or combination meal, the food is absolutely the best! You won't find a Greek salad as delicious as the one you'll get at Troys. My one complaint: Stay open later on week nights! Easily the finest Greek restaurant in southern California. YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2017 - PART 3: 92/100 Hubbers and I had an urge for a snack on a lazy late afternoon. This was nowhere near where we were but he mentioned good things about their gyro platter. Found parking right up front. Only one other table was occupied. Hubbers and I opted to sit at the bar. The entire restaurant is really spacious. Dealing with a crowd wouldn't seem like an issue since there is plenty of room to maneuver, if it had to come down to that. (It wasn't an issue for this visit, obviously.) Hubbers and I couldn't agree on which gyro to get, so we decided to get our own. I went for the regular gyro and he went for the beef souvlaki. We also started out with the dolmas which were pretty tasty. The tang from the tzatziki brings it to a different level. Overall, however, was pretty typical. I should have paid more attention to the open kitchen behind us where our meals were put together. My gyro was alright. (Yeah, just alright.) I've definitely had better. So, I'm used to a few pieces of 3-4" strips off the rotisserie then warmed up on the grill for a couple of minutes before wrapping it up with its sidekicks. Not here - a whole strip was sliced off from the rotisserie, not sure if it got warmed up, then folded in half and finally wrapped in the pita with the veggies. AAANNDD!!! The wrapping paper got wrapped within the pita, so there it was joining the veggies and meat. I had to deconstruct the whole thing halfway through which downgraded the whole gyro experience. (Really, the whole thing had LAZY written all over it.) Did I mention the meat was a little dry? Hubbers' souvlaki, however, was quite tasty. The seasoning was done well and the meat was pretty tender. The one PLUS, however, was the nice surprise of 1/2 off our beers. (We came in during happy hour.) But service was good. Portion sizes way down. (About 1/2 down in size, been here since 2016) ordered rice platters and the majority of the dishes were rice. One skewer of meat (about 6 pieces of meat) to go down with a fat portion of rice. Read other reviews that suppliers cut down on supply, but that doesn't give the excuse to charge the same rate for a significantly less amount of food. Woulda rated 1/5 stars, but food is still decent. Just not worth for the money you are paying. read more

Heard about this place from a local friend and have been here a couple times now. We love eating at some of the great places on Solano. The first time we stopped in, my guy and I ordered 7" sandwiches of the Lamb/Beef Gyro and the Chicken Shwarma. that were served with these wonderful hot sauces; green and red. I love spicy! My guy had a greek beer and I ordered a glass of greek red wine. The next time we stopped in, we decided to order the 9" versions, so we can split each and share. The meat was so tender, juicy from great sauces and the fluffy fresh and hot pita bread was so good. I was really blown away by the food here, pretty damn good for lunch or dinner under $10 per person. Loved it! read more

Food is good but service could use some work. I came to pick up an order today and two employees were chit chatting behind the bar area. There is a huge sign to pick up food so I pointed and said that it was my order. The woman yelled over at me, instead of walking over and I couldn't understand what she was saying. I asked her what she said and she said "show me your receipt to confirm". I walked over to her because she was still behind the bar chatting with her co-worker. Really did not appreciate her tone and just plain laziness that required her to yell at me from a distance. She could have walked over but I guess it was more important to keep chatting with her co-worker. Got take out from here last night after seeing the good reviews and graving some Greek style food. The guy who took my order was super nice but the food was soooo disappointing. Dolmas-my husband said it tasted like the ones you get from the fridge section of Trader Joe's. Rice was mushy, way too much acid. Gross. Chicken souvlaki: rice was ok, reminded me of rice a roni. Chicken was mediocre but the portion was pathetic. Most Greek restaurants load up the protein, but this place was so stingy with the meat. My 8 year old son ended up eating all the meat. And usually these entrees have enogh to share Greek salad- was decent. Glad they didn't screw up a basic salad. Falafel wrap: falafel tasted like it came out of a box. Ugh! Gyro wrap: it has grilled onions in it, which I guess is ok but most Greek places don't clutter up the flavor of a good gyro by adding the sweetness of grilled onions. The meat was dry and tasteless. Altogether this meal was so disappointing. I don't think Greek basics (like a gyro wrap or chicken skewers) are a difficult cuisine to get right. I'm surprised that for a city known for good food and a sophisticated palate would give this place the thumbs up. read more

So I finally got to try this place since we've been hanging in the neighborhood more often. We realized this is the same restaurant that was on College Ave. in Oakland, which unfortunately is not there anymore and they have still have their first location in Alameda. I came in and had a bunch of questions regarding certain items as I have a grain allergy and a mild dairy allergy. The gentleman behind the counter was very helpful. I finally settled on the gyro platter minus the pita. Unfortunately, they couldn't sub out the pita with anything. I was hoping for a bigger portion on the salad maybe or an extra zucchini..oh well... We also added an order of garlic fries which was pretty good. They are quick. Maybe 5 minutes at most just to put the fries together and pack up the meal. I think we'll be back as the husband wants to try of their meals. read more

I was bummed when i found out the College location was closing, but I was so glad when I found out they also had a Solano location! Troys is my go-to place for gyros and Greek fries. Are there better places? Possibly. But that's not to say that Troys isn't a solid option in the East Bay for your fix. Located on Solano Ave I actually like this location a lot better. Parking isn't as hectic on college and there seems to be free parking in the residential areas as well as the metered spots. Although this location is only one floor it feels WAY LESS cramped and more open than the old spot on College. Seating here is separated by tables, bar stools, and stools by the kitchen. If you want to watch a Warriors game I'd opt for the bar seats, but if you want to see your food being made grab a seat by their open kitchen. They do a great job of keeping the place clean throughout service times. Service here is good as usual! The staff is really friendly and makes sure that they bring over all the utensils, water, and sauces you may need. As mentioned earlier get their gyros and Greek fries! They did raise their gyros by $1 so the small is now $9 and large $10. All in all they are solid and packed with juicy/flavorful meat, sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, and grilled onions on a fluffy pita. The Greek fries $5 are also a must since they top it with tons of Parmesan cheese. While you get some gyros don't forget to try their homemade sauces as well. TIP: the spicier sauce Is the green one and the mild one is the red sauce. Happy eating! read more

Tasty reasonably priced Greek eats on the east end of Solano. We ordered lamb and chicken souvlaki, dolmas, hummus, and some garlic fries. The first thing my wife and I noticed was the lack of grease in traditionally oily dishes. Even the dolmas could be picked up without leaving a sheen on your fingers. Over all the food was fresh and appetizing, and everything was well priced, as the portions were plentiful. The hummus was especially nicely sour and slightly grainy. I have tried soo many falafel places but this place have the best falafel and this is my first time here. Loved this place. Very tasty and authentic. I ordered combination platter as you can see them in pic best thing ever. I like the idea of open kitchen and you can sit by kitchen counter and eat. Very friendly staffs and attentive. "Solid Greek on Solano, good service" Was hankering for some Greek and tried this place out with two friends on a Thursday evening at 5:30pm. It was very quiet-- not many people there at all. Setting is a bit dark but still inviting (we sat right by the window so not too dark), and they have a large bar. We shared a saganaki appetizer, a Greek salad, a gyros platter, the mousaka, and an order of baklava. The food came out SUPER fast. I was disappointed in the saganaki. It was not served "aflame" as is traditional for Greek restaurants, and it was a rather small and sad piece of cheese for the $9 price. Tasted good (the mint was a nice addition), but lacking in presentation and in value. The Greek salad was solid-- could've used more olives and feta, but it was quite acceptable. The gyros platter was good. As other reviewers have said, it wasn't the best gyros I've had (meat was flavorful but not as moist and delicious as it could be), but certainly it was fine. The highlight of the meal was the mousaka-- that was extremely well-prepared with delicious lamb and eggplant, not too soggy, not too greasy, not burned-tasting, but just right. Delicious. I'd definitely order this again. The baklava was fine-- laden in honey and was one modest piece, but we didn't expect it to be large/ more given the $3 price. I do wish they had more Greek dessert options, though, than just baklava and cake. Would've loved some galaktoboureko, for instance. Service was very good-- the staff checked on us repeatedly, kept out water full, and were great at explaining options. They mentioned that the owners are actually Jordanian rather than Greek, which despite the overlap in foods between those countries, may explain some of the missing items. Seriously one of my favorite Greek/Mediterranean restaurants in the Bay. My company orders from here all the time for lunch meetings and I always order the Gyro platter ($14) or wrap ($9) and am satisfied each time. Their hot sauces are also one of a kind-the green is a tad bit spicier but the red has a better kick. I have no complaints. Impossible Wrap is so good except for when its not. I've odered it at least a dozen times now, chasing the last time I had it when it was amazing. But then I'll be disappointed to find a wrap nothing like the last one I ate. I like to imagine someone in that kitchen makes it with real love and care. I loved this place UNTIL today. All of their Meat, seafood and vegetables are seasoned Perfectly'. Texture is on point! House made sauces delightful! Today I ordered a Greek salad with a piece of grilled salmon! The piece of salmon was 9.00. Now for this price I expect an average piece maybe 6 to 8 ounces. Normally my salmon piece is double the size that I received today. I was so shocked that I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager. The manager explained that their supplier has cut their portion sizes in half! Yet charge them the same amount. So instead of them being transparent and telling their customers ..(so they're not searching under the table or asking anyone if they have seen it. LOL ) they decide to say nothing! To continue with the same price for less. The manager even went as far to say that they have received numerous complaints in regards to the same issue I was discussing and still choose to continue with this practice however unpopular! Now I definitely understand things are going to be a little higher nowadays with the pandemic and all the issues with supply chain! But even gas goes up gradually... VERY disappointing!
