I reached out to Troy a month and half Before moving to be able to shop around and plan accordingly. We went back and forth talking several times. He asked what furniture and when I told him 1 bedroom set, 1 tv, 2 tv stands (like teacher used in middle school to roll the tv in to class) possible table and maybe another item or 2 as I was trying to move most myself so I didn't pay an arm and a leg. He asked if I had a mirror with my bedroom set, and how many boxes . I told them yes to the mirror but no to the boxes, again, saying anything I could move myself I would. He told me he was just trying to figure out how long it would take as it was based by the hour. He then did the math in his head and said it should take about 2.5 hours let's round it up to three just in case and gave me a quote of $450 equaling to 150 an hour. So if I added more things and it took more time, I would know how much more I would also have to pay. The day came the movers came two hours exactly just to get everything in the truck. 40 min to drive to new spot. Then another 2 hours 20 min. Equaling 5 hours. The two movers were bickering wither each other because all of a sudden one guy said I will jsut bring the items to this spot versus bringing them all the way up which his partner was not understanding this took longer. His "new idea"was not faster he was spending more time hanging out at the truck. The fastest that guy moved was when I finally was looking at the clock going, this is taking way too long for not that many items and started helping him move chairs myself. When they finished he said I'm going to write the bill up and in my head after hearing him say what a big house I thought he might try to charge more but I did not expect this much more. As soon as he said " I took the mirror fee off, don't telll Troy " I knew he was bs me. Stating what a big house then thinking he could charge whatever is beyond rude but it's Troy's company and I had spoken with Troy. I was not going to debate with these two guys who were clearly doing what they knew was wrong. Mind you they chipped the new door frame and knew they did and didn't say a word. I waited to see and nothing. When Troy asked about my mirror he didn't say anything about a mirror fee, he just explained the insurance coverage on certain items. Five hours at $150 equals $750 right? Nope apparently it was a whole new hourly now. The "big house " meant the hourly went up. 5 hours cost $1,083. $633 dollars more than the original $450 and $333 dollars more than the $150 and hour I was quoted. Who would have even carried that much after being quote more then half of what they charged afterwards. I gave them money that was to rent the U-Haul I needed to move the rest of my items which is more then what they moved. I called Troy the following day I hopes to clear things up, get a portion of my money back for being charged incorrectly as well as damaging thw new door frame as when we first talked he gave me his spheal about how long he's been in the buisness and how he did things the right way. Apparently that was just a line kinda like his quote was. Jsut a way to get you to use his company and then up charge whatever they decide that day afterwards of course. If you want a quote don't bother going to them, it's not a quote clearly. Make sure to carry more than half of what he discusses because they could change the hourly rate at anytime making the whole point of talking prior to that pointless. Doubt he'll reach out to give me my $273 extra back let alone care about the damaged door frame. They can't say it wasn't what I was quoted because $195 which was the upgraded price would still not equal the $450 discussed and 3 hours. The math is not matching. Not worth the money spent when you never planned on having to pay that. Funniest part is I told him I read a review about a lady saying she was charged these things afterwards and he said no way could it have been me, I would not change it after the fact I would've have ate the cost cuz I keep my word, he stated she must've been talking about another company. Now I know she wasn't, because the same thing happened to me. Don't believe his lies just like his quotes. Better off getting a couple guys from U-Haul app at least you pay prior so you can't be charged more afterwards. Good luck to those moving, if only everything wasn't a scam now days. read more

His guys showed up and carefully moved most of my furniture. They even helped with a broken uhaul truck. They stored all my stuff overnight and showed up the next day and carefully unpacked and set everything up on a cold rainy January. Great people to work with. read more

I was disappointed in the service level from Troy's. After booking, we were told there would be an extra charge for moving TV's-- at a cost of $60 each for "TV moving boxes." Very steep considering that they cost about $25 to buy yourself and this was the cost to only RENT. I mean, what person doesn't own a television?? Anyway they had to be moved, and our car isn't big enough to transport TV boxes from Home Depot, so we went with it. I'm 8 months pregnant and not willing to potentially hurt myself for a couple of electronics. Our movers worked efficiently, but ultimately didn't take enough care with some of our belongings. Our bed and dresser were scratched in the move, and they left our mattress cover in a heap on the floor instead of using it to protect our $2,000 investment. One of our TVs (that, again, they charged us $60 extra to move) was damaged as well (it now lists to one side). Moving day was very cold and of course there is snow on the ground in early February, but I do wish they took more care here. We have worked with some truly top-notch movers in the past that took the time and care to carefully wrap and protect our belongings. I wish that was the case with Troy's! read more

They did a good job with the move but they're was a damaged bureau I sent Troy pictures and spoke to him. He said because of pandemic it was hard to find someone to repair. That was 2 months ago. I've used Troy's twice. First time in November 18 and again March 2020. Troy runs the show and is extremely responsive and dependable. His quotes are accurate ( we actually came in under quoted price both times). His 3 man crew are pros. We had the same crew both moves. The moves were smooth and met expectations for a high quality business. Troy owns his own truck, this is not a fly by night organization. I've made my fair share of moves in my time span, even at the ripe young age of 28. From MS to TX, TX to GA, GA to MA... and that isn't to mention the moves I've made inside each state (twice so far just in MA... and I think it was 3 in GA). Some of these moves I do myself, putting myself through a mind numbing experience, not to mention the side effects to the body, and some moves have had movers take care of everything... allowing me the chance to sit comfortable to the side and make sure (with prayer and hopes of course) that nothing is broken or damaged. I even schedule moves for a living, it's my job. Estimating time, weight, etc... and then booking a company to take care of said move. In this case, I moved from a 3rd story location in Lowell, to a 3rd story location in Billerica, both being an apartment complex. I have semi nice furniture, nothing that I bought within a year, and through it wasn't free... it's not like having a car or college loan. I keep it nice, and my electronics are ALMOST, my life. :-P Troy offered me an estimate (time, weight, and cost). I of course did the same for myself, and his price was reasonable. (We'll come back to that) The weight was off a bit, but no bother, and after a certain mileage (20 I think) they charged a fuel surcharge. Which most major companies don't offer till 30 to 50, depending on location. The move went... okay, and that's rounding it up. The movers weren't really moving, it was more like a "crap we have to work" movement and attitude then a customer friendly - earning a paycheck attitude. Which is aggravating when you pay by the hour. Another upset, they didn't wrap my furniture (which is tan/beige by the way). It just got blankets throw over it when it got in the truck. Blankets that must not have been to clean by the way, because my couch had an orange tint once it made it to my new apartment. I can thankfully say that nothing was broken, but if I could do it all over again I would gladly take the back ache over the head ache. Tony was unwilling to work with me on the couch. I explained, it definitely did NOT have that lovely orange tint when it left the old apartment, he said "My crew said it looks like dust, just use some fabric cleaner and if that doesn't work give me a call." And whose paying for the fabric cleaner? ME! He did nothing to help, and offered no follow up or assistance in the matter. Furniture was not put back together, and the bill was much higher than planned (I even estimated an hour over what they originally claimed it would take). If you have other options... use them... any of them, just don't come here unless you have no other choices. He was friendly when making the sell, but not after the workers completed the job. Put your time and money in better hands then this for your own good and a better/happier move. read more

Working with Troy and his team during the stressful time of moving was a pleasure. From the start, Troy came out to give an in-person estimate for the move. The estimate was broken down in great detail, down to the amount of movers required, amount of time to do the move, transport time, additional fees for special handling and so on. When I received the estimate I was shocked! Much lower and more fair than other estimates that I received. Troy kept me in the loop leading up to the move, calling periodically to make sure the day/time still worked with the closing of my house. Any questions about how to leave boxes, what to pack, what to leave out etc all were answered going into the move. On the moving day, 3 men showed up in the Troy's Moving truck. They promptly came inside, took a look around and asked for my preferences for the move. 10 mins later, they were disassembling furniture and bringing boxes to the truck. Throughout the process of moving out, they checked in with me to make sure things were well known. I noticed how quickly, yet painstaking carefully the crew moved my furniture down a narrow set of stairs. Even boxes that weren't labeled fragile were treated as if they were. When we arrived at my new house, the team did another quick walkthrough the get the lay of the land, and immediately put down moving blankets even in areas we knew they wouldn't have to move to. Their attention to detail directly resulted in no issues or damage to any items during the move. Shortly after arriving at the new house, to my surprise, the team had completed the move and had reassembled all furniture. Even more shocking, when I signed the final sign-out sheet, they came in under the estimate. Troy followed up shortly thereafter the move, and within about a week I had a refund check for the overage. I am more than pleased with the level of service and the efficiency Troy's team was able to handle my move. I hope I don't have to move again for a long long time, but if I do I know who I'm calling. To begin, I admit that we were a challenging household to move. We have a lot of stuff and though I had spent several days packing, there was still a lot to do. There were some minor problems, but there were a couple issues that were not so minor. We hired Troy's Moving because he is the friend of a friend and the reviews on BBB were great. We explained we were on a budget and Troy wanted to help by suggesting that we rent a 17 foot U-Hall and take a couple of loads over our selves. We rented a 15 foot U-Hall and took three loads. The men who did the moving were polite and efficient, however, many boxes marked for particular rooms were found in other places. Some boxes were buried in a corner behind several storage cupboards. It's been four and a half weeks and we still haven't found the wooden slats that join our mirror to the dresser. Obviously they didn't put that back together. The upper section of a small two level display case was left in the entryway while the lower half was placed in the master bedroom. In some cases the legs from our living room sofa and chairs were removed, and in some cases they were not. My expensive desk now has a chip out of it - but these are the minor problems. We feel that Troy does not handle feedback well if the feedback is not praise. We think he is fairly poor at estimating. He said that we would need two 28 foot trucks, and I agree, but with the three loads we took ourselves, as he recommended in order to avoid the need for two 28 foot trucks, the estimate was still significantly off. We are due an hour's refund which we still have not received. Nevertheless, we are mostly disappointed with what things the mover's did NOT put on their truck. My mate and one of my son's had repeatedly reminded them to put our Big Green Egg, deep freezer, and large kitchen island on the truck. These are the heaviest items we own, and obviously the things we needed the most help with. These items never made it to the truck. Troy said that he would "try" to get a truck and three movers to us on Monday to finish up, but it would cost us another $800.00! Why didn't the movers put those items on the truck in spite of being specifically asked to? We believe that Troy told them not to so that we would have to pay the extra $800.00 to get the job done. It sounded like, and we still believe it to be, a scam. His response was, "Really..." He persisted in interrupting me and talking over me in his attempt to make me feel that I am the one in the wrong. Blaming me for it because we were "not ready." Even so, those heavy items were ready to go. Why do we hire movers anyway? At one point he even said, "I don't care that you're the customer..." I had to tell him more than once that I was not finished speaking. This rudeness and his attitude caused me to hang up before I even finished telling him everything that I had called about. He just didn't even want to hear what I had to say. These issues are not, as yet, resolved. So, I would strongly advise other consumers to look elsewhere for their moving and storage needs. In other reviews I have noticed many customers complain about Troy's lack of customer service. My family and others whom I have discussed these issues with agree about the part that seems like a scam: it just doesn't make sense that the men doing the moving never put the heaviest items on the truck in spite of being asked to do so a few times. Then, Troy offers to "try" to find a truck and some men to help us out again two days later, FOR $800.00 MORE!! What does it sound like to you? We rented a 10 foot U-Hall and an appliance dolly to move these heavy items our selves. It was very hard, and not what we had planned for our move and the money we were spending. I once shopped around for quotes to move and called Troy because I would see his trucks in my neighborhood. Probably should have read the Yelp reviews first to see his confrontational style of business. He gave me a quote which I thought was really high but I never signed a contract with him to do the move. I found another mover who could cover it for half the cost. Didn't really think he was necessary to call Troy back since we hadn't signed anything. There was no deal and no was deposit paid to his "company" to book my move which is a standard SOP in the industry. Low and behold 2 days later I can get a call from Troy calling me this and that name telling me "I don't understand how the world works" and I'm just some punk kid. I recently moved about 45 minutes from Salem MA -beginning of Aug2017. Troy's came recommended to me by a number of coworkers who have used them for their North Shore moves -one woman has used them twice. The three guys arrived right on time in the AM. They were efficient but patient with us as we put together the final boxes. They were respectful of my things. Nothing was broken. They maneuvered around a couple steep and curved stairwells. The pricing came in at the high end of the quote but I would chalk that my not being as fully packed as I would have liked. I already have recommended Troys to someone else and will continue to do so. I called in for a quote and I got a quote which is far higher my budget. I told him I will call back if i am interested in. He insisted to come in on the time that I am not available. I shopped around and got few quotes from other movers. I received two calls from him this morning to ask did i find another mover. When i said i did find one. I scheduled a move well in advance for the last weekend in June. I was moving from a 3BR house (one of the BR's was basically empty) to a 3BR apt, but I have relatively few furnishings and no appliances being moved. Called Troy, as I had received a postcard advertising his company's services. The estimate I received was well above advertised; I was told this was because I was moving on the "busiest weekend of the year." Ok, is gas more expensive? Do you pay your crew more money that weekend? No, and probably not; you charge more simply because you can. I called around, got higher rates, so apparently all movers subscribe to the "we can overcharge our customers this weekend" mentality. I signed on the dotted line. Crew arrived on time in the morning, and started off gung-ho. A few hours later, progress had slowed to a crawl, and the crew chief covered this up by constantly telling me unasked that "we're working hard for you." Finally the house was packed and we hit the road. Moving into the apt went relatively smoothly, except for the damaged dresser. I accepted the crews apologies (it was "the elevator's fault") and was told that Troy would be in touch the next business day. I was given an estimate of 5-7 hours for the move, and was presented a bill for 9.5 hours, with a cost 68% above estimated. The biggest reason for the 2 star review is the after-the-fact customer service. I called Troy numerous times, attempting to have him address the damaged dresser. Every time I was told that he was so busy, and can I call back. Once he even told me he couldn't talk because he was headed to his vacation home, and again, could I call back. I'm sorry, if a business owner cares about customer service, he cares enough to pick up the phone and make things right when his employees are at fault. Here I am, months later, resorting to warning others because Troy doesn't care. I had been a long time customer of this moving company until our last experience. First issue was the movers were 20 minutes late. During the move the guys would disappear for several minutes, often. While they likely were taking breaks, there were far too many for what I consider normal. Lastly they were extremely slow unloading. So slow I had to help so we could finish that night. Probably the worst was between the 3 of the movers, none could figure out how to get the couch through the front door. Not only did they not have tools to remove the legs, they gave up almost immediately. Ironically, me and my wife (who is 5' 2") figured it out after they left. Maybe we got a bad crew or a crew on a bad day. Either way, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. read more

I contacted this company to get an estimate on moving, and Troy called me today to set up an appointment. He sounded nice and we set up a time for the next morning, and he suggested I check out their BBB ratings. I generally don't use BBB, so I checked here on Yelp instead and saw some of the less-than-great ratings. Myself and my fiance decided to cancel the estimate. I call to cancel, and Troy asks why. I explain that I don't use BBB because I've heard ratings can be bought there, and some Yelp ratings are not good. He immediately starts talking about how his BBB ratings are great and will not let me speak. I told him I'm not interested and he starts getting angry and interrupting me about how it's "important to his business." He's still talking loudly over me, so I say no thank you and hang up. He's now called two more times in the past few minutes, both of which I told him NO, I AM NOT INTERESTED and to stop calling me. VERY unprofessional - if someone isn't interested in your business, just move on. Calling them multiple times to harass them is NOT okay. And it's certainly NOT going to change my mind about employing your company. read more

I used Troy's Movers last month and the experience was certainly sub-par. Troy was great in the beginning, making the sale, but once things were being moved, it was a different story. He needs either a crash course in customer service, or hire someone to do it for him. He was very disrespectful, aggressive, difficult to work with, and blamed us for hiccups in our house closing process (the things that always seem to happen during closings which are out of the buyers/sellers control). First off, he never called us back to remind or confirm a pick-up/drop-off time for our move. Second, I needed to push our drop-off/set-up back an hour, and he basically flipped out on me (from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.). He was not only unaccommodating and sensitive to the situation, but he said he would charge me time-and-a-half for his guys to work and drive home in the dark. Meanwhile, after I begged the sellers to move in early, his guys still showed up 1.25 hours late. The movers were professional - they were fast, efficient, and pretty friendly. They engaged in small-talk, but knew they were working against a timeline and definitely stuck to it. Hats-off to them. The price was very cheap and even came in under budget. Therefor I would recommend the movers especially if you're moving to an apartment or into a place with no time constraints or deadlines. But if you're buying/selling and moving that same day, then I would not recommend this place. Buying/selling, there's always curveballs that will make the time sway an hour here or an hour there, and this type of customer service will only add to the already-stressful situation. After weighing the pros and cons, the cheap cost and pretty great movers didn't outweigh the poor customer service I received... and unfortunately, could only give it a, 'OK' 3 Stars. It's too bad because if the female who answered the phones after hours was in charge, this could have been a 4 or 5 Star rating, easily. read more

I am only giving Troy 1 star because I can't give them a 1/2 star. I signed for an afternoon move, because I was closing on the new house at noon. Gave a deposit, Trot stated I was all set and in good hands. They arrived at my apartment, at 8:15 in the morning. I spoke with him and he stated that if I didn't move now, he would back out. Try finding a mover in 10 minutes on memorial day weekend. Pay extra for troy to damage my TV. The movers were nice, but moved at a relatively slow pace. Took an hour to arrive across town. Which is an 5 minute drive. Had to argue with them to take that hour off the bill. The next day Mr. Troy called to ask how the move went. He denied saying he was going to back out and stated I was hard to deal with. Apparently he was happy with the job, but I was not. If it sounds like a good deal its probably not. read more

Every one of my clients - with no exception - (and believe me, I follow up on the recommendations I give out) has raved about Troy and his crew. He's not a slick sales guy, so if you want a polished suit who will upsell your move, he may not be the guy for you. What I can tell you is that his crew are polite, professional and speedy. They have done moves from clients moving to mega-houses, all the way down to assisting an elderly lady moving into a small apartment. It doesn't matter - they all get treated well. CANCELLED THE MORNING OF MY MOVE. Troy was the most unprofessional and obtuse person I have ever encountered. I was scheduled with him for a month, and the night before, he told me he was going to be 3 hours late due to another customer, then cancelled the morning of my move. He takes no accountability, is incredibly rude, hangs up while talking to you, and constantly interrupts and talks over you while speaking. He would leave me messages, lose track of who he was calling, and call right back. This guy and his company are incompetent, unprofessional, take zero accountability for mistakes and SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS. I have never dealt with a worse, more unprofessional person or service in my life. Zero stars weren't an option to give. Troy and his business should be shut down and have also been reported to the Better Business Bureau. read more

These guys really DELIVERED ! Get it? But seriously, they are the real deal. Troy came by to check out what needed to be moved a couple of weeks in advance and gave me a full explanation of the process as well as a quote on the spot. On move day the crew showed up right on time and easily accommodated two stops for my move including one involving a narrow driveway and finding a way to fit everything in the elevator in my building. Moving is one of the most stressful events in your life. Choosing WHO moves doesn't need to be, if you choose Troy's Moving. With a typical 1930 3 bedroom 1,700sf home in Lowell MA, I didn't have exactly the typical move, which was divided up into two jobs. Job One included some some larger items (bureau and desk-hutch) which had to exit out the front window and off the front porch, a bedroom set moved to my sister's, and a very old antique cabinet moved to a friend's. Jose's crew arrived early (given a choice, better than late) were very professional, polite, careful and STRONG. The move went smoothly and they set the bedroom up for my sister. Job Two, a few days later, included my things consisting of mostly boxes, a bedroom set, few couches, chairs and tables. Adding a twist, I asked Troy if the guys could make another stop and pick up a few things which I purchased from a friend. He estimated an additional hours' labor and $10 in gas - both of which I found very reasonable. Both moves went off without a hitch - I couldn't be more happy with the experience. And, even though there was the additional pickup, Troy was still within his original estimate. I attribute this to my being packed and prepared for the move (thank you to family and friends for making that possible), and Troy's team operating like clock work. My last move 15 years ago involved a handful of friends and a u-haul truck; the nightmares have mostly subsided. For this move, my Friends said "just get a truck and we'll help you". Sounds good in theory. I've taken both roads and I prefer the one with Troy in the driver's seat. read more

Never again! They charged us way more than what was quoted and dropped my new dryer down the stairs. The delivery guys promised that they would make good on it and I would be taken care of but when I called Troy he said it was the dryer fault that it fell down the front steps and got all banged up. I told him the dryer wasn't heating up and he said that's because my dryer vent is clogged up because the people in the house before us never cleaned it.....problem is.....IT'S A BRAND NEW HOUSE! Troy must have called me 6 times and every time with some BS excuse and talking as fast as he could without listening to a word I would say to him. I'm pretty sure his objective was to annoy the crap out of me so much that I would just say forget it which is exactly what I did. If he gave me a couple of hundred bucks back to have it repaired I would have been satisfied but he refused any monetary compensation even though it was all dented and scratched up. We used Troy's last April for moving from our apartment to our new house. I have no complaints! They showed up on early and finished early, and everything was moved safely into our new home. The movers worked diligently throughout the day, and the price was about half of what other companies in the area would have charged. read more

Not sure what the whining on here is about. Troy quoted me for a 2 hour job. His guys got the work done in 1hr 35 minutes. I was told from the start that there is a 2 hour minimum which is expected. Super efficient and Super professional. Gotta give credit where it's due. I couldn't have moved my stuff myself. Will definitely use this service again. read more

I used this moving company to transfer the contents of my condo to my daughter's house for temporary storage. The movers disassembled my wall unit for transport. A month later, I again had them move my furniture to my apartment from my daughter's home. Once the furniture was in place, they could not find the screws that went to my wall unit and didn't know where they placed them, so they left it disassembled and said they would check at the office to see if they were there. They also put the legs on my adjustable bed in the wrong slots and the bed tipped over whenever I tried to get into it. I never heard from the movers or Troy. I made several calls to Troy (12+) and left voice messages each time. He returned the first call and said he would take care of it, but he didn't. He never returned any of the other calls. I even sent him a certified letter regarding the issue. I am a senior citizen with no means to put the wall unit back together or change the feet on the bed base. My issue is with Troy's continued refusal to correct this issue. read more

Very disappointed with the customer service from Troy's Moving and Storage. The movers moved us into storage and then into our new home, and lost the hardware to our bed. We understand things like this happen, the 1 star is because they blew me off for appointments to come look at it for replacement hardware, and would call and tell me excuses why he blew me off. The owner gave me a million excuses why he hadn't been out after a full month of him blowing me off I finally said forget it. I wish we spent more and got better service. read more

My family and I have used Troy's movers during two moves. The first time his movers were amazing and impressed my parents so much they insisted I contact Troy for my move to the condo. Apparently we picked one of the busiest days to move and the movers were 2 hours late. When I called Troy and told him that I was only allowed to move between 1-5 (a rule established by my condo's management company) he became annoyed and asked why I didn't tell him... Well why didnt he tell me he was going to be 2 hours late? If he was going to be on time it wouldn't have been an issue at all. He tried to place the blame on me and I was very unhappy with his customer service. However, his movers were professional, quick and courteous despite being in the middle of a heat wave. They took great care of my furniture and boxes and even hoisted one of my dressers to the 2nd story in my loft. I do recommend Troy's for his staff not he himself. read more
