Terrible experience, aggressive and unprofessional employees, not to mention the attitude of the owners

Awful experience, called to get a quote and went through great detail about the move and was given a rough quote of $9-10k. They sent a guy to come out with his sweatpants hanging off below his backside , kept losing my phone number and EM, never opened my texts for addresses, came late and in total confusion. He too gave a rough quote of $9-10k. Several days later got a call once again asking for my EM and info, gave it all again. They quoted $18k, because he told me he originally he thought Arizona was next to Florida; when he looked at the map and realized where AZ was, the price doubled. We hired Harringtons because we wanted to support a local business . They sent five guys and everything was great with one MASSIVE exception. I had to leave the residence we were moving out of to meet Xfinity at our new place to get the cable and internet set up, so I had my thirty year old daughter stay behind to make sure everything was moved out of the apartment. Let me preface this next part by saying that four out of the five people they sent were great - they were friendly, professional, and took great care moving our belongings. However, the fifth person they sent is the reason why this is not the review I thought it was would be writing. When my daughter went to do an initial walk through to check that nothing was left behind, the fifth guy, who was wearing an ankle monitor, literally exposed himself to her. He actually pulled out his penis. Obviously my daughter was extremely upset and I cannot find the words to express how angry and upset I am. To make matters worse, when I told the owner, Debra/Deborah Harrington, what happened she then proceeded to blame my daughter, saying she shouldn't have engaged in any conversation with any of the guys at all and that it was her word against his. This woman victim shamed my daughter after her ankle monitor wearing employee pulled out his penis in front of her. To say I'm disgusted with this guy is an understatement. But then to have the owner react the way she did is absolutely unacceptable. I don't know this woman at all, but I imagine if she had a daughter/sister/mother or any woman she's cares about for that matter, would she react differently? It's a shame because the other four movers really were great, but this one guy and the owner have made it so I would never recommend Harringtons to anyone, especially someone I care about. I'm giving g Harringtons two stars because the other guys were great and if this hadn't happened it would be a five star review. read more

Harrington completed a difficult move for me yesterday. Moving and transferring furniture between my 3 homes in Andover, Dennis and Quincy and my storage unit in Andover. All the furniture went into the homes that they were to go in. The move was accomplished in the agreed to time and within the budget. Moving... its the worst, right? Physically exhausting, mentally draining...strangers handling your belongings. I know I lost sleep the night before my move. So I'm telling you, do yourself a favor and give yourself the gift of Harrington Moving and Storage. They were the first company I called, and I'm glad I did. From my initial conversation with Leo, I was sold. He was able to book me two days out. Harrington has competitive rates, and they do both moving and storage, which means one stop shopping. Special shout out to Johnny, Freddy, and Sammy, my moving team. What a crew...on time, pleasant, friendly, professional, expedient, careful. They continually checked in with me and asked questions to make sure they were doing things the way I preferred. They moved a ginormous sofa that I was afraid would not fit out the door. Finally got this settled with Harrington Movers and they have agreed to send me a check to replace the stolen bracelet. Although there insurance company estimated the value to be 1400 dollars and some change which is a few hundred less than what the jewelry store valued it at, I decided to settle with them and be done with it. I am happy that Harrington Movers did the right thing in this case. Just waiting for check to come in the mail. Will not be writing another update unless the check does not arrive. read more

Today, March 24, 2020 I closed my law office in North Andover, MA and hired Harrington Movers. The move involved picking up furniture and many file cabinets at my law office. After the pick up there were three delivery points: a storage facility in North Andover, my home in Andover, and another office in Andover. Three fellows showed up at exactly 8:30 am (as promised). They were methodical and worked extremely efficiently. Nothing was damaged and the move went off without a hitch. When they got to my house to drop off several items they offered and did remove their shoes (it had just snowed). I could not believe it. I would hire these guys again in a heartbeat. These guys are absolutely the best! I had a problem with the closing date of the sale of my condo and the purchase of my new home. I had to call the manager Leo at least 4 times to change the date and or time of the pickup and delivery of my belongings and each time he was understanding and patient as we worked through the logistics. It worked out that they picked up on a Tuesday morning and basically held it on the truck ready to deliver until they had to have the truck on Friday. It was finally delivered on Saturday when my closing was secured but during the time it was on the truck the delivery date changed 4-5 times. The pickup and delivery crew Sean, Willy, Pauly and Matt were fantastic. All the furniture including a china cabinet and curio cabinet with glass shelves and doors were packed tightly and secure. I've been doing shipping and receiving for 30 years and these guys knew exactly what they were doing! Everything was loaded fast on the pickup and unloaded carefully but just as fast and put exactly where I wanted it. The furniture was reassembled and they cleaned up after themselves nicely. Courteous throughout and professional. I wish I knew about theses guys the year before when we moved our warehouse and office! I'd definitely hire them again if I ever moved! read more

These guys know what they're doing. I called them after a Google search experiencing an issue moving a couch into my apartment which seemed to big for my doorway. After a quick call with Leo he took the time to come over and look for me to see if it was going to fit. He then in a matter of minutes showed me a few quick tips and even helped free of charge to get it in. Something which seemed impossible done in a matter of 5 minutes. Did I mention free of charge, he just handed me some business cards after and now I just have to let anybody know who looks on here if you want effective quick service, look no further than these guys right here. read more

We used Harrington movers because my husband waited too long to called the movers we had wanted to use, so they were booked up. We called Harrington movers and they were available, so we booked them. I wish we hadn't, they were awful. They showed up over an hour and a half after their arrival window. They took forever to do anything - they only ended up moving our large furniture because they were so slow and didn't move any of our boxes. My husband loaded all of the boxes into the truck himself. They messed up some of my furniture, there's a huge chunk missing from my bookcase. When they finally arrived at our house, again they were enormously slow and it was clear they had no idea what they were doing. Again, they only did our furniture and my husband unloaded all of the boxes. We realized after that they didn't unload my mirror from the truck. The guy had to come back the next evening, which he said he would be by at 10 and didn't come until after midnight. It was just completely awful. Instead of making our move less stressful, it was so much worse because we spent nearly a thousand dollars and yet we were left with damaged furniture and boxes strewn about our basement that my husband moved himself anyway. We hired Harrington to move pretty heavy equipment at our business. It took 4 guys, 4 hours in the middle of a substantial snow storm to move thousands of pounds of equipment out of about 4,000 SF into approximately 1,500 SF (and a medium truck) for storage for a few days while flooring was being completely replaced. Then, 4 guys returned for about 5 1/2 hours a few days later to place these pieces of equipment back on to the new floor. Never once did any of their crew roll their eyes or sigh when we asked them to pick up a 700 pound plus awkward piece of equipment and move it over an inch, back an inch, forward an inch and back an inch again. They were prompt, precise, professional and a lot of fun to work with. Their pricing was VERY fair, nothing was broken (including bodies) or lost. We would highly recommend them for any move. I hesitated between 2 and 3 stars. The movers themselves were very nice, and the price was good. But in the past we have used large national movers (corporate moves) and some "best practices" are not put into place by Harrington movers. They will not necessarily bring them up so you have to ask. For example: 1. No inventory was done. This is an extra charge. So there is no way to tell if you are getting all the boxes/furniture that you moved out. This was just business as usual for the large national movers. We didn't realize until we asked about it after the move out and were then told "This is extra". They should have mentioned it up front. 2. We had them pack for us, and they did not label all the boxes. So when we came to move in, there we quite a few unlabelled boxes (lesson learned: go look at boxes after they packed and make sure everything is labeled with something meaningful to YOU). 3. Some vases were packed in with paper files, this is not typical from our other moves - if glass breaks you don't want it in with other stuff because then broken glass will be everywhere. 4. They didn't tape the shelf brackets into the piece of furniture (in a baggie). We had great trouble finding the shelf brackets after the move - normally with our other movers they taped a ziploc bag with the shelf brackets right into the piece of furniture. 5. They won't cover any move damage without insurance, and there is separate insurance for the move out and the move in. We thought the insurance we bought for the move out would also cover the move in....how do they know the item was broken on the move in vs. the move out or storage? 6. They didn't protect the carpets very well on the move in, so now we have dirt tracked on our carpets. So I would recommend, but with caveats. read more

The experience with Harrington moving was a nightmare. I had a local moving recently. The second day after the moving, I found I have some personal properties missing. I called them, and the woman who took my call responded like I was lying. Later the man who is in Charge, David, called and said they would do some investigation, and I didn't hear from them since then. A week later, I called again, the woman said they reported to police and David who knows the details would contact me. But he never called. I had to call them the third time after a week, this time the woman was very rude, she almost yelled at me. Of course they wouldn't pay anything because I didn't buy their insurance. In the past 15 years, I have moved many times and used many moving companies. I never bought any insurance, but I never lost anything during moving. I'm so disappointed with their service, and upset with the woman's bad attitude. This is my first and last time dealing with them. I strongly suggest choosing other moving companies in the area. read more

On July 14, 2015 Harrington moved me from a cottage to an apartment in North Andover. Because of the recent loss of two employees, dealing with the company was difficult. There were scratches and a dent on the dining room table as well as deep scratches on two of the chairs. I can refinish furniture and offered to repair the chairs but asked that Harrington refinish the table. The company offered to pay half of the estimated table repair ($150 out of $300 cost). Since I was willing to help, I will not accept their offer and would never use them again. read more
