What a disappointment this was from the moment we walked in we could hear a young lady behind the register shout, reprimand and bully the young man in training. --------NOT professional ! This place used to have great food with good service. Now it's horrible. I ordered the bourbon chicken expecting the typical bourbon chicken that every Chinese restaurant sells. Every fall we venture on a road trip in the mountains to hike and enjoy some fresh air. Travelers Rest, SC is a absolutely beautiful, friendly outdoor place. If you haven't been, I highly recommend the area anytime of the year. Now the food... Tr's was a quick stop for dinner. We ordered online and picked our food to go. Everything was packaged well. The food was hot with good presence. The taste was not really not that good. Ive had better Asian food around the world. Honesty they could do better with the seasoning. As a first generation Chinese immigrant mom who enjoys cooking, I am naturally picky about Chinese restaurants, especially those specializing in American Chinese cuisine. TR Oriental gets a five star rating from me. Our family visited TR briefly and were happy to find this family-owned business. We ordered 3 dishes plus a hot and sour soup. I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant, but unfortunately, our experience didn't go as planned. When we walked in, the smell inside was very off-putting, and it made us hesitant right away. I also noticed rugs on the floor that looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a long time, which added to the uneasy feeling. The place looked rundown and not well-maintained, and there were no other customers there at the time. Because of all that, we didn't feel comfortable ordering and ended up leaving. I can't speak to how the food is--it may be great--but the first impression was not a clean or welcoming one. If I go to an Oriental Restaurant and get an entree with Pork, Chicken, or Shrimp fried rice it's the assumption that the rice would include eggs, peas, carrots, and onions. ll. Imagine getting your food and it has none of the above then being told it's a $1.00 to add each item. The rice just had pieces of pork and didn't taste fried at all. Then the chicken wasn't even that good. More breading than chicken. Average as far as what I am used to. The least they can do is have it clearly listen on the menu what is included in the rice so that you can make an informed decision. I wasted $10.00. For $8.00 at Red Bowl I could have gotten bigger portions and the rice with all the vegetables. Just be mindful when ordering read more

Long time TR resident and have always eaten at Chang An by the Food Lion. Tonight I tried TR Oriental and I will never go back. The first red flag for me was that there where several tables in the restaurant with plates of old food sitting out that should have been bussed and cleaned up. The staff was also sitting in the restaurant eating dinner which I thought was strange. My wife and I ordered to go. I got the General Tsos chicken and she got the hibachi chicken. My chicken had bones and pieces of feather still attached to it and it was verry soggy. My wife's chicken tasted like bleach. It was disgusting. It literally smelled like bleach was poured over it. Maybe they wash their chicken in bleach. We also got egg drop soup. It was ok but the wantons had a bleach chemical smell to them also. We will not be going back to TR oriental. read more

I've been here to get food 'to go' twice since moving to TR on 5/24/22. Never again. The food is bland & tasteless. Don't waste your hard earned money. They offer no seating whatsoever and the gal behind the register taking & giving out orders, couldn't even smile. What did I order you might ask...the first time was vegetable fried rice, the second time was what they call dumplings here, but they were actually Gyoza that were deep fried. This is a review for a Friday night dinner. There is parking in the lot just across the street (be aware of the big pot hole) or in front of the restaurant. You can either dine in or take-out. There was a steady flow for take-out orders while only 3 tables occupied for dine in. The atmosphere is very casual and they do not serve any alcohol. The wait staff was very quick and friendly with my appetizer arriving within 10 minutes of ordering. I ordered the chicken wings and my DH ordered the pork egg foo young. Everything was very hot and delicious. My meal came with an egg roll and fried rice and my DH had steamed rice. The bill was under $20 and we took enough home for another meal. I hate giving out 5 stars, but I cant think of any reason not to. Nothing is perfect most places, but great food and great prices goes a long way. Then add good service and you have a 5 star. We stopped in for lunch and ordered the $5.95 specials. Theres many to choose from by the way. The food came pretty fast and was piping hot. If I lived here I would come here very often. Thoroughly love it. I can usually tell if a Chinese place has a chance of being good by the egg rolls and it spoke true for here. I love a good egg roll that isn't greasy or mushy. They nail it every time whether eating in or getting take out. I can't tell you how many times I have gotten egg rolls to go and there has been a pile of grease at the bottom of the egg roll bag. Not here. We have sampled a few of the other things including chicken and broccoli, shrimp with lobster sauce, sesame chicken, and a few others and every time it was so good. They also remember how my mother likes her special so they know it's me I don't have to tell them which one is hers because she eats the same thing. They prepare it the way she likes it they also put hers in a special bag so we know it's hers don't have to dig through it. I prefer the brown fried rice opposed to the more yellow variety many places around here have so that in itself is a big draw. However the last time we stopped by for takeout the food was so horrible that the entire order was thrown into the trash.
