Unquestionably, the Roti Canai is the delicious signature dish here. Tip: order an extra "pancake" or "roti". Roti is a general, broad (Sanskrit) term for any type of bread or flatbread, whereas "roti canai" is a specific, popular type of flaky, layered flatbread from Malaysia. This is served with a curry chicken sauce, but really there is not a lot if chicken, android the pancake is crispy, layerd, fluffy, piping hot, and unbelievably good. The curry is like a butter chicken, Indian influenced curry. As mentioned, this is at heart a Malaysian restaurant but also served Chinese and Thai classics. Also unquestionably, the decor could use some serious help by the Restaurant Impossible crew. It feels cramped and like a Halloween costume of a Chonese ir Asian restaurant, lacking any character or charm. The service is attentive, but most likely students from nearby Furman. It is somewhat amusing to me for some reason when, mid-meal, the waitress arrives to the table with a pitcher of ice water and looks at our empty water glasses to ask "would you like more water?" It was linch. The roti was superb. The $4.00 "pork egg roll". Was a single, skinny, overcooked, under stuffed appetizer with a thin duck sauce accompanying it and tasting like a commercially premade dish. Never to be ordered again. The main I chose was the chicken bulgogi lettuce wrap, which was served with romaine lettuce (not the classic cold, crunchy iceburg. It was overly ratioed with diced water chestnuts ti chicken and it was also very sweet and nothing bulgogi about it. The ingredients might be in this dish, but the composite wasn't the thinly sliced "fire meat" (what the word bulgogi means) expected. It chad chunky chicken, not slices and the sauce was overly sweet and gloopy (too much corn starch) and no spiciness. My wife had a serviceable Tom Yum soup that she said she would never order again. We do eat out frequently at Korean and Thai restaurants and these dishes really are not on the same level. But, the Roti Canai is so hood, we will definitely be back to eat again. read more

Not a new place, but one that I somehow missed on previous trips. Perhaps because they've titled themselves an Asian Kitchen, which is generic and doesn't usually suggest the food is going to be particularly special. But this place is in fact run by a Malaysian family, with what I think were pictures of Kuala Lumpur decorating the walls. They have a separate menu with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free listings, of which there are many. I felt like a bit of a fool ordering basic spring rolls, but theirs were quite good with a nice mix of glass noodles and vegetables. My curry, at 4/5 spice, was enough for me on the night. It's not easy to find vegetarian green curry, but I enjoyed theirs, though it was a bit too much sauce for the amount of coconut rice that came with it. They did not skimp on the vegetables or tofu inside. A tea was perfect for washing things down, and I wish I could have ordered more. Their selection includes a number of items typical of Southeast Asian cuisine, but also some distinctively Malay items like roti canai or curry laksa. The exterior is quite deceiving for this delightful restaurant. It's cheerfully decorated inside, the service is friendly and quick and the food is delicious! Rock Star! The food is fantastic and they have a large menu. If you crave Asian food this is your place. The General Tao's Chicken of one of the best I've ever eaten. Service was great too. We sat at the bar and had great & prompt service. They have five (plus/minus) beers on draft and about a dozen in the bottle. Ambiance was so so. I did not go there to look at pretty pictures, went for the food! They do close mid afternoon (2:00 to 4:00) so keep that in mind. It was a nice atmosphere to come and spend quality time with family and friends. (See pictures) The service was friendly and excellent. We ordered the roti, shrimp Laksa, chicken Rendang, and Mee Goreng for the table. I absolutely loved the food. It was excellent. Especially the roti, but really everything was excellent. I've been wanting to try this place for some time now, but they always seemed closed (closed on Mondays & Tuesdays). But I was in luck today! We stopped in and we were the only ones other than staff in this restaurant. We were promptly seated & we gave our drink choices as we perused the easily navigated menu. There were so many options it was hard to make a choice! I settled on the Tangy Teriyaki Beef that came with a really nice assortment of vegetables! My partner ordered the Yellow Ginger Delight. We settled on trying the pork egg rolls first and appetizer, served with a plum sauce that was delicious!! The egg rolls were nice & crisp! Presentation was beautifully done! When our main meals came, I was overwhelmed with how beautiful it looked AND tasted! White rice was served on the side. The beef and all the vegetables were very tender and cut to a nice size!(so often you go to an Asian restaurant & they cut the veggies in huge pieces which makes it hard to eat) this was done perfectly! The sauce was heaven! The spices all blended perfectly! My partner's Yellow Ginger Delight was a huge fried noodle basket on top of shredded cabbage and was filled with scallopes, shrimp, chicken & beef with a lot of beautiful vegetables also! On a night in which I wanted to branch out and try some other different restaurants of The Greenville area I decided to head north to Yellow Ginger. Upon entering a busy Friday night I could smell and see that this was going to be a great experience. The restaurant was packed full. I ate at the bar. I decided to go with a roti canai as an app and the hokkien mee as a main. The roti canai was unreal how crispy and soft it was. They gave a few chunks of chicken and the sauce was just as roti canai should taste like. Creamy, not too sweet but just perfect! I believe this is also served as the main dish rendang chicken but I could be wrong. If it is order it up! It's awesome. The hokkien mee was a generous serving and chewwy noodles which I selected with shrimp. It was very good as well, flavourful and will fried. Boy oh boy! Yellow Ginger Asian Kitchen is A-OK. We started our meal with the ROTI per the recommendation of the other reviews on here. This was truly delicious. The crisp outside texture of the bread and the soft inside made it very unique. It had a sweet smell to it. The chicken butter curry was very rich and flavorful. The combination of heat, sweetness, and richness from the butter complimented each other very well. I got Curry Laksa which had two stars next to it. This denotes a very spicey dish. Curry Laksa** $12.95 - Shrimp, chicken, tofu, hard-boiled egg, bean sprout, and lo mein noodles in a rich curry coconut broth. The lunch order is only $7.95. Though the broth was creamy, I thought that it was a little thin, and lacking a bigger punch. It was not very spicey (neither in the heat nor the spices sense of the word). The egg roll that came with it was crispy but again, lacking in some sort of flavor. The chilli sweet sauce is what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant. I thought that it needed some additional vegetable in the soup. My partner got the Yellow Ginger Delight. Yellow Ginger Delight $18.95 - Shrimp, scallops, chicken, beef, and mixed vegetables with chef's brown sauce on a crispy noodle bowl I imagine it was this price due to the scallops. I don't think it was worth this price. The brown sauce was good, but again it seemed to be lacking a punch of some sort. The portion was quite big, especially when you count the side of rice. It definitely seemed cooked from scratch and there was a good amount of meat. It just didn't seem very special or different. Because it is a half hour drive for us, we probably won't be returning. read more

The service was speedy - we were shocked when our food came out after about 5 min (maybe they knew this chick here was hangry!!) Fiancé got the Szechuan which we were really excited about because I had raved to him over and over again about the various peppers Szechuan dishes use. Usually you get a smokey, peppery, spicey flavor that starts to make your eyes water but in a good way. However, this dish was barely spicy...just a whiff of spice and only really with red chili pepper. Not sure if they purposely Americanized it for him but still we were bummed. I got the chicken rendang because I wanted an authentic Malaysian dish. I came here with my husband to put in a to-go order for 6 and it didn't take long for our order to be ready. The lady who helped us was very nice, as we sat at the bar, waiting for our food. Now, let's cut to the chase and talk about the food! I ended up ordering the Red Curry Chicken entree. My husband ordered the Chicken Pad Thai. Our other family members ordered Chicken Fried Rice and my son ordered the Sesame Chicken with steamed white rice. All of which was very good. I tried my husband's pad thai and it was absolutely delicious! Next time, I may order that or just keep that as a go-to option for when I can't decide what to eat! My red curry chicken was good, but I wish I had put the whole thing in a bowl with the coconut rice as opposed to a plate because the curry stew was very flavorful! By putting it on my plate, separating the the chicken and veggies and rice, I feel like I didn't take in all the flavor per bite. When I scooped up the stew with a spoon, I could taste more flavor. The menu here has such a variety of Thai and Chinese good for everyone that enjoys a good Asian American meal. I truly look forward to eating here again! Hopefully next time I will be able to dine in too! It appears to be a family friendly restaurant and they have a full bar, with some good draught beer options.
