The worst of it tho was when me and my boyfriend were getting ready for check out. As we were getting our stuff together and making sure we weren't leaving anything behind, my boyfriend found someone else's dirty boxers, socks, and condoms behind a little bench where we had my dogs stuff. I would have preferred staying in my car for two nights than in that hotel ever again.

We were part of a large group in town for a family funeral, so we stuck it out for the two nights. I helped my mom get into her first floor room and found a hole in the bathroom door, blood on a bedspread (which was replaced without apology and some coaxing), and she found a used (hairy) bar of soap in the shower left by a previous guest. Ick. You could also very clearly hear the upstairs guests walking around. My room was on the second floor. Only staircase access found a big crack in the hallway window. I pulled out the iron and ironing board in the morning to touch up my dress. The board pad/cover had a hole in it. My mom said, "oh yours only had ONE hole, mine had two." I liked the magnifying mirror in the bathroom however all the dust on it was a turn off. I was okay with the bed. It was comfortable enough and seemed clean. Each room has a mini fridge and microwave. I was looking for a coffee maker, but you have to wait for breakfast in the morning for the coffee. Other things you expect with a lower end hotel were present, i.e. small thin towels, little tiny soap and cheesy outdated decor. The hotel is located just down the street from McDonald's, grocery and drug stores. That was nice.

On April 3, I went to their site to make reservations.( We were going to a concert in Stoughton on the 11th of April and as part of our Anniversary celebration, we wanted to stay at a nice bed and breakfast. I was re-directed to another site and I went through the process of making a reservation for April 11th.( which also included making sure there was a room available ) including giving my credit card information. I thought it was a done deal. Then I received an e-mail stating that my reservation "request" had gone through and that I would receive a confirmation within 48 hrs and that if I didn't I should contact the Inn. After 48 hrs, I still hadn't received anything from the Inn, so I called. I only got an answering machine, so I left a message to please call me. The next day, still nothing from the inn, so I called and left another message. I began to panic that we weren't going to have anywhere to spend the night, but still, I waited for an e-mail or a call. The next day, I called and left ANOTHER message. Nothing. I left messages every day up until April 8 and there was still no word from the inn and nothing had been charged to my credit card so I assumed the reservation, for whatever reason, had not gone through. I searched the web once more for a b&b in or near Stoughton. The closest thing I could find was 20 miles away and much more expensive, I didn't have much of a choice but to take it. I received confirmation of my reservation of the new inn within 12 hours. All was well until April 10 ( the day before the concert ) I received an e-mail from the Naeset-Roe Inn, confirming my reservation, etc. I immediately got on the phone to the Naeset, but, guess what? No answer. I left a message to please call me and the reason I wanted a call-back. I wrote a detailed e-mail explaining why I no longer needed the reservations and how I had tried to contact them. I thought that was that. The following day, we left for our trip. After our weekend trip, I checked my home phone messages and I had a call from the Naeset, saying we were no shows, etc, etc. I immediately called...no answer. I left a message explaining everything and to call me. After about 10 minutes, we get a call. The inn keeper says that she never got any messages or e-mails from me and that she had called, but was never able to leave a message the whole week (we had received various other messages during the week) and that she had a strict cancellation policy and was going to charge us the entire price for the room. I explained that we had tried to call her all week and she said she was out of town the entire week ( contradicting what she had said earlier that she had tried to call us before ) How would a person have cancelled even if they had wanted to? By the way, was she out of town the previous weekend when I tried to call all that time? She had already told me that she was the only person that works at the inn. Was it closed all weekend and weekdays the previous week? We found out that no, it was not closed. We got our phone records and she had not tried to call us at all, except for the 11th when we were already in Stoughton. She did indeed charge my card for the full amount of the room, but then reversed half back. We have contacted our bank and are in the process of getting the other half back. I don't know what's going on at that inn, but I would just say, be careful that you don't end up like I did. I would never again attempt a stay here and I would give this place no stars if I could, just for the bad business practices. I cannot speak for the inn its self.

If you don't have the time to drive all the way to the Northwoods, you can still have a fantastic view of a beautiful lake, paddle around in a kayak or rent a pontoon, cook out, throw a frisbee, or borrow bicycles and ride into Stoughton (Norwegian bakery!). You can eat at Halverson's, a short walk down the road, and drink too many Old Fashions and walk back to the resort. Their food is great in the old Wisconsin way. You can come by boat or bicycle with a little planning and make a mini-adventure out of it. There are three tiny but efficient cottages and a small, medium, and large guest house. We got Cottage #1 (the one in the photo up on the hill). The cottage has a tiny but full bath and a bedroom. Naturally, you'll spend most of your time on that patio with the awesome view of Lake Kegonsa. The manager Frank is an outstanding fellow who keeps everything immaculate. He also rehabbed all these units so he must be quite a craftsman as well. He went the extra mile for us on a couple of accounts. So 5 stars for accommodations, 5 stars for service, and 5 stars for value.

I was looking for the perfect getaway for my boyfriends birthday when I stumbled upon this place. Lake Kegonsa was never a lake I had heard of until now and boy let me tell you I'm glad I did. This lake is stunning and the views you get of it from these cabins are unreal. It's breath taking to watch the sun rise over the lake in the early morning. Cabin number 2 was our choice for the weekend. The prices were very responsible especially for all the cabin had to offer. It was fully stocked with anything and everything you may need. Don't let the pictures on the website fool you, these cabins are completely updated. New appliances, new TV's and very comfy beds. Lastly, Frank the owner of the property, was very kind and inviting. When we first arrived there he greeted us with open arms at 6pm. Which was very nice because many places offices close at 5pm and he was there all ready for us at 6. He keeps the properties very tidy and presentable. Don't sleep on this place, it's not one that should be missed!!

Right outside your door they have chairs and tables for enjoying the beautiful weather. They also have grills and an area for bonfires. I was only able to go to the communal area/lobby for the first morning as it was soon closed as they were started to do contactless check in/out. But it seems as though in less COVID-y times they have some coffee or tea there, light breakfast items like mini muffins or breakfast bars and fruit. They also had a communal puzzle and board games. Overall the place is super cozy, perfectly situated for a relaxing vacation with a number of restaurants and small shops to visit in Baraboo.

There is also a separate area in the back with motel rooms. Like I said, I was there for a lil' drink. There's a bar inside the mansion (Apothecary Bar) with all kinds of medical and druggist paraphernalia, with the space being a tribute to Dr. Philip Maxwell. But it's the speakeasy, which is accessible outside in the front of the house, that you'll want to visit. Ask for the password inside the mansion, and they will let you into a dark, below-ground bar. It's all decorated in prohibitionist flyers, and even the bartenders are dressed up in period costumes. It's a really cool and unique bar in Lake Geneva.
