    vegan dim sum
    Grace X.

I had some of their vegan dim sum offerings at the California Ave farmer's market in Palo Alto and it was spectacular! Lots of vegan options and they are well labeled. A little bit pricey but I'd say it's worth it since it is fresh and handmade.

Such fantastic dumplings and above and beyond customer service. Olivia and her team whip up the most satisfying gluten free and glutinous delights every Sunday at the Palo Alto farmer's market. We've been regulars and love the steamed dumplings and sticky rice so much that we even got frozen dumplings to enjoy at home in between the weekends. Olivia is always so welcoming and patient even when the line is so long. There's always room to sit and enjoy the dumplings -- while the frozen ones are amazing to cook and enjoy at home, nothing beats the taste of those that are made fresh.

Low to medium 3.5 out of 5. Caught their stall at the Grand Lake Farmer's market in Oakland. I wasn't expecting the dim sum to be tiny in size, but overall majority of the flavors were there for the items ordered. Wasn't a fan of the chili oil, personally I prefer the crunchy chili oil. Items ordered: Black truffle shrimp 4 Steam pork bun 2 Dungeness crab and shrimp 3 pc Chicken sticky rice in lotus leaf 2 Su mai 4 Chive dumpling 4 Chicken and mushroom 4 Flavor wise 4 out of 5 for majority of it. Crab and shrimp/Truffle shrimp/pork bun 3 out of 5 *Didn't taste much of the truffle. Overall would come back to this stall and recommend.

This was $22!!!! 2 xlb, 3 shrimp dumplings, 4 small pork buns.

Kids wanted xlb and this place was at the palo alto farmer's market so decided to try it out. Their food is not cheap and not even reasonably priced! Xlb was 2 for $6.50! Compared to other xlb restaurants, they're going for about $1.50 each. This place is more than 2x the cost! Suffice to say, I didn't even get to try it to see if they were even remotely worth it (but judging from the looks, they did not). I tried the crab & shrimp dumpling and it was ok. The skin was a bit thick. The pork buns weren't also mediocre, lacking flavor. Overall, I cannot recommend this place. It's way over-priced and average quality.

A line is usually a sign of something good. Right? I was jonesing for some Dim Sum. Even though there is a line it moves quickly. Be ready to order when you get to the front. We ordered the Crispy Chicken Football (wish there was more filling), Mushroom Dumpling (nice shroom flavor), Dungeness Crab dumpling (yummy), Baked BBQ Pork bun (bun was a little steamed) and Crispy Shrimp Blossom. If you are near the area this is a must try. I wish the sauce containers were a little wider, it was hard to dip my dim sum. Be ready to Venmo or use cash.

My boyfriend and I discovered their booth at the Sunday Marin Civic Center Farmers Market in San Rafael a few days ago. After looking through their listed menu and seeing how long the line stretched out we knew we had to purchase some authentic dim sum! I'll review them below! Sui Mai Dumpling~ I love sui mai and these were the best I have ever tasted! The shrimp was nice and succulent and the pork was very flavorful as well! Seriously order these mouthwatering traditional dumplings and thank me later, so will those tastebuds of yours! Sea Scallop Dumplings~ If you love scallops as much as I do, then you'll be all over these delicious dumplings! Seriously order these and thank me later, so will your tastebuds! Petrale Sol Dumplings~ I personally thought they could use a bit more oomph to them. Crispy Shrimp Blossoms~ These were absolutely delicious, a nice crispy exterior and filled with succulent shrimp and flavorful pork inside! Seriously order these and thank me later! I would highly recommend visiting for the best handcrafted dim sum around and we will definitely be back to try more of their large varied menu! They get their produce from local farmer's markets and have been in business since 2008!! Support this family owned mother and daughter team, @trugourmet on Instagram, especially now when they need our business the most!

    My four items.

I came here to grab food at the farmers market because dim sum sounded delicious on a cold, drizzly day. I was expecting larger portions especially for the cost. When I opened my four items: two dumplings and two buns, I was slightly disappointed at how tiny things were . It was supposed to be lunch but it was easily a snack. Each dumpling easily fit as a tiny bite and each bun could be consumed in a larger bite. While it's nice that they have vegan and gluten-free options, I honestly can't justify these "gourmet" dumplings. The flavor was good, but not good enough for me to ever want to come back again.

We ordered the Kung Pao Scallops (without the green bell pepper, which they were happy to accommodate). The scallops were so tender and fresh tasting, and the portion was generous for a $21 dish of scallops, onion, water chestnuts, slices of crunchy seaweed and peanuts. We also ordered the spicy garlic eggplant which was a huge portion and melted in our mouths. The sauce is the traditional sweet, tangy and spicy which they got in pretty good balance with the piping hot eggplant. It's great to know about this place. The menu is huge so much to keep coming back for. And our server (from Goa surprisingly) was super sweet and friendly. I would only recommend them changing two white lightbulbs that were out of theme with all the others of a softer warm tone. I'm sensitive to lighting so I wanted to point that out because it's much more inviting to have the warm tone, and so rare for a Chinese restaurant to care so much about lighting. I will be back!

I expected the lemon chicken to be similar to sweet and sour chicken/pork or orange chicken where the batter/outside is fried and crispy and the chicken/pork in the center is seasoned and tender. The batter/outside was for lack of a better word "soggy" but the saucy was lemon forward with a slight tang. I'll rate it a 5/10. The beef and broccoli had a strong ginger flavor that I was a fan of, so I would rate it a 2/10. The service was fast and attentive and the restaurant itself is average not fancy and not rundown. I went in curious and optimistic -- unfortunately, the experience fell flat almost immediately. Upon entering, no one acknowledged us or greeted us at the door. For a restaurant that presents itself as modern and slightly upscale, that lack of front-of-house awareness was noticeable and set an awkward tone from the start. We ordered the vegetable cake, a dish I'm very familiar with and usually love. Texturally, it was decent -- soft inside with a lightly crisp exterior -- but the flavor missed the mark. It tasted under-seasoned yet strangely heavy, with an excess of oil that lingered on the palate. Instead of feeling clean and balanced, it felt weighed down. For context, Palate Garden Party executes this dish far better: brighter flavor, better seasoning, and far less grease -- and at a lower price point. Even with the longer drive, the difference in quality makes it worth it. Dessert was a banana sesame roll dumpling dish that sounded promising on paper. The first bite was interesting, but that novelty disappeared quickly. The dumpling skin was far too thick and overly crunchy, almost stale-textured, which overwhelmed the filling. The interior lacked cohesion and finesse, and the cinnamon flavor felt muddled rather than intentional. We didn't finish it. Across the board, the food leaned excessively greasy, to the point where it didn't feel good to eat. I left feeling heavy and uncomfortable rather than satisfied. The flavors never quite came together, the quality didn't feel refined, and there wasn't enough charm or warmth to compensate for the technical misses. Overall, this isn't a place I'd return to or recommend. There are far better options for Chinese food that offer cleaner flavors, better execution, and a more thoughtful dining experience.

There is an abundance of excellent quality Chinese food in San Francisco that finding similar quality Chinese food in Novato makes it hard to satisfy that cuisine craving for me. After calling China Village on San Marin (who say they can't make this particular dish...really?) I tried my luck with China House on Grant. For delivery I ordered it through DoorDash along with their Salt & Pepper Pork Chops. On the app I specifically ordered the Beef Chow Fun where I added instructions to add scrambled eggs to it. How hard is that? When I received my delivered order I opened up my boxes and discovered that they did not follow my simple instructions. Most restaurants would call you directly if there are any questions about your order, but sadly China House did not. If there is an up-charge for an additional ingredient I would've gladly paid for it. I called about my order after getting it and the person who answered said he was unaware of my specific request in the instructions and said I should've called them. Well I guess I should've, but aaargh! The food ... chow fun was just average, noodles were very dry, but beef was tender. The salt & pepper pork chops were average as well, but tender and still crispy when I received it and large portion. Nice hint of the Chinese five spice flavor in the seasoning as well. Lesson learned for next time. And still on the hunt.
