I had a wedding in Rochester this past weekend and wanted a good place to get my hair done. I am not a local and had never been to Rochester but thankfully one of our family friends pointed us in the direction of Salon W. My appointment was at 10:45am with Sydney and she was available right as I arrived. This salon is very cute and spacious. It is located in the second floor of this building and has very high ceilings and lots of natural light. Sydney was fantastic! She was very friendly, and really worked with me to achieve the exact look I was looking for. My hair looked so nice and I got many compliments on it! It is very clear that this salon has stylists who really know what they are doing. The service is really amazing and the story of the salon is quite charming (apparently founded by some British stylists who have 4 subsequent generations still working there!) I was referred by a friend to Jessica to get a highlight and came to get my roots done. The cut and blow out is really nice, but I came specifically for my roots, and wanted that dark root line to be gone. But i feel like they were barely touched. She weaved the finest amount of hair blonde, and left 4x as much hair out. When I pull my hair back it still looks pretty dark around my face, with baby fine highlights. I don't want to be staring at dark roots right after i get my hair done. I dont have free time to sit in the chair a second time for hours, and pay again. I didnt feel comfortable saying anything during because she seemed kinda bothered after I asked her about her pulling the bleach all the way through the midlength of my hair which worried me about breakage. Afterwards,  I said I think you did a great job, its a nice cut, but there's still a pretty significant root line. And she said thanks so much, and walked me out. I felt dismissed, and I don't think I'd even feel comfortable having her fix it. read more

I've had a few different appointment types at W Salon and all have been fantastic. I've had two haircuts from Maggie- she is so wonderful to work with and was very open to having a dialogue about my hair and preferences. I have very straight hair normally, and I need a specific type of cut to debulk it and build more body. She listened carefully and totally delivered! My hair looked amazing. I loved it so much, that Maggie ended up doing my hair for my wedding. She gave me these amazing curls that lasted the entire night regardless of dancing, and it looked picture perfect. This last time I went to W, I wanted something totally different, and the closest appointment was with Rachel. She gave me a balayage style coloring, and a straighter haircut with less layers. It was a fun change from my usual, and I really love it. Every experience I've had here has been great- the staff is wonderful, they have a fantastic waiting area with a nice selection of drinks, and they do a wonderful job. My advice with going here though is to budget a little extra time and enjoy the process. My haircuts here always have a tendency to go a little long, but as long as you're ready for it and just relax and enjoy it, it's not an issue. read more

Jonathan Webb, his brother Simon and Simon's wife Maggie are in my opinion, the best in Rochester. Their new location (just across the street from Pittsford Plaza) is just amazing! Head to the back of the parking lot to an unassuming door, up the elevator and into a posh modern salon. The floor to celling windows give W something no other salon around here can offer- NATURAL LIGHT! There was a well stocked refreshment bar with wine, soda, coffee tea. The front desk was efficiently run, organized and the staff friendly. Waiting area was comfortable though my wait was brief. Sydney is amazing!! Really listened to what look I was going for with my hair and was able to make my color look noticeable but natural. She also really paid attention to my hair type and brought back so much body to it. I've noticed it feeling so much healthier after going to her. Not only are all of the staff so sweet and welcoming, but the finished product is always exactly how I pictured it. My first time here and my visit was wonderful. I booked my appointment with Jessica R and she was so kind and sweet and very attentive to what I wanted done, balayage and a lob. She suggested to have a few highlights around my face so the balayage would blend in more with my dark hair and I'm soooo glad I agreed! In the end my hair came out much better than I anticipated. I had such a great experience here! W Salon is such a down to earth yet professional place. I have stubborn, straight Asian hair and I have not found many who know how to cut my hair properly. I've lived in Rochester for 2.5 years and have been disappointed by all the previous stylists who have cut my hair. So I've had pretty blah haircuts for a long time and have been somewhat depressed about it. I decided to give this place a try and I was paired up with Raquel. I can't say enough nice things about her. She was cool and easy to talk to. She listened to what I wanted and all my complaints about my previous hair cuts. We both found pictures to explain what I wanted... and best part (in my opinion) she razor cut my hair! I have not found many hair stylists that razor cut and for my type of hair, it's pretty much a necessity to get the layers to fall properly. And in my experience, my best and most favorite hair stylists razor cut my hair. I'm so glad I found this place. I already have my next appointment rescheduled. read more

Used to be great, and the brothers and are really sweet; but the experience is frenzied and fragmented now, and the owners double book your hour, so you wind up having different operators in one session. It feels rushed. Prices skyrocketed, too. They use new grads to wash and rinse, be so prepared to get wet, have bits of conditioner or color left on your scalp, etc.. Itchy! I left Scott Miller's for the same reasons, even though I started out with Scott back in Fairport back in the 'olden days.' I want relaxation during my haircare. Me time. No stress. What an unexpected experience!!! Random found W Salon one day when I had lunch with my friend at Moe's, looked up and saw a modern like salon at the second floor. As for my curiosity, I read the other reviews at Yelp first before I made my first appointment. Everyone are so friendly there, from the receptionist to my stylist!!! They even offered a complimentary drink for my hubby who was in the waiting area, I believe he had a beer and a coke. My stylist Tanya is so professional, we just had a brief chat and she knew what's good for my hair. I had a previous bad haircut (uneven length) at the mall and thanks to Tanya who fixed my hair from blending in without taking too much length as I wish to grow my hair out. I can't wait to go back and see the amazing staffs at W Salon in couple months!!! P.S. They have outstanding customer service! Guess what? I received a thank you card from Tanya in the mail today. I found this place on Yelp and just loved it! I'm from San Francisco, CA and needed to do my hair and makeup for my wedding in Pittsford, NY (my husband's family is from there). I was a little nervous because I wasn't able to do any tests since I flew to Rochester the night before the wedding. I'm so glad that Gabby was able to replicate what I had in mind. My up do came out perfectly. Also Caroline did an excellent job on the make up. Very natural look and not heavy. Besides that the salon is very modern and has a large beautiful space. Stunned to read anything less than 5 stars for this salon. The staff are all warm, personable, approachable. Maggie is extremely detail oriented in her hair cuts and does excellent color jobs. She also is willing to make ANYTHING right that you aren't happy with. No one talks too much, everything is clean and pleasant. I've been to several other upscale salons in Roc, including Scott Miller and did not find satisfaction all across the board until I found this place. In a word: AWESOME. In more than one word: Everything about this salon is top notch. It's exceptionally clean, comfortable, and well-lit, and all the employees exude happiness and actually seem to get along (unheard of in most salons)! Furthermore, the highlights and cut I received there today at the skilled hands of Melinda are second to none. I'll be honest, I was a little nervous when I learned how young she is, but some people just have a knack for doing hair that no amount of experience can replace - and Melinda has a knack and a half! The price was VERY reasonable for all the time she spent with me, too. I came in thinking I knew what I wanted, but after discussing it with her for a few minutes and showing her a picture of what I had in mind color-wise, she explained to me why a different approach and slightly different outcome would be better in the long run than exactly what I had requested. Her logic made sense to me, so I told her to just do as she saw fit given that she was the professional - and truth be told, in the end I think I'm happier with what she did (even though the results were a little different from what I had envisioned when I booked the appointment) than I would have been if she'd just gone ahead and done exactly what I asked for! The cut is perfect, too. I have very thick, somewhat unruly hair, and she managed to make it lay just right - something almost every other stylist I've ever been to has failed to achieve! You really can't ask for a better experience than that. When I got to my appointment the staff at the front desk wasn't that friendly. Didn't make me feel that welcome, as they were too busy answering the phone or whatever the 3 girls were doing. The girl Lexi offered me a drink, but she wasn't charming my socks off with her cool, unfriendly attitude. My wait was short in the lobby area but when I got led to Maggie's chair, I was unimpressed! The chair had someone else's hair all over it and the girl expected me to sit in it. I asked her to clean the hair off, not just some of the hair, but ALL of it! It was so... gross. I was grossed out by this. I reluctantly sat down. I thought with how much I WAS going to pay for my haircut that Maggie's chair would have been nice and clean, let alone a comfortable chair. I waited way longer in her chair for her to finally come talk to me, than I did out in the lobby. Wasn't happy with this. While waiting, I got a chance to look around at the salon, it's furniture, stylists stations, stylists etc. The stations themselves were very small and narrow, and hardly any space for stylists to put their styling tools, etc. It felt very cramped, and small. The girls doing hair coloring worked near the windows with just an ugly cheap roll around tray. I think they should have had a nice place for the colorists, instead of just having chairs by the windows. It was very basic and bare bones. It was not how I would have expected the salon to look. If I were working there, how they have it set up, would not feel very comfortable or like they want their stylists comfortable. Everyone is on top of everyone else. The atmosphere didn't seem very high end. It felt like they tried to fit as many stations in that room as much and as tight as they could. Not a good design. There was no place to put my purse or anything else, like a drink or whatever. So ambiance sucked as well. I've been to salons around Rochester where the atmosphere and staff are way more welcoming than here. Yeah, free drinks are nice. But offering alcohol is very risky. Whoever drinks the wine or beer, do u actually think the person who is drinking it is going to wait til their buzz wears off before they drive home? Very bad for their business if that person gets pulled over. They are not a bar and shouldn't be offering alcohol! read more

When Jonathan was doing my hair, it was in the best shape and cut. Unfortunately I had to switch hairdressers at w salon when Jon was on leave. I went to Gabrielle for a while but over time I felt like I exasperated her when asking to switch up my color and highlights to help cover gray. There was never enough time when I booked haircut and color. I was discouraged in trying balayge and rose gold shades. The last color and cut result in my hair being over processed and fried. I went in the next day to voice concerns with my husband who also goes there.. Actually my husband talked for me because I was scared. I ended up buying $65 worth of products to help me. My husband complained the next time he had a haircut about the service I received and the money paid. Simon had also remarked once about how my husband's hair grew back after only 3 weeks since his last haircut with Tanya. My husband's hair was often very choppy and coarse after his cuts. He also voiced concern about disparate treatment from the front staff at times who dismissed him in favor of other customers. He got a phone call asking him to not come back and that they would not be servicing him in the future. I called the same day he got this call and cancelled my future appointments. They did refund me $201 for my fried hair and products I bought. I just can't help but think this is not how Simon and Jonathan do business. But they did us a favor. We pay good money to have great haircuts and hair color. This is a selective place that doesn't have the time to spend with customers. I booked my color and cuts at night when it wasn't busy, so I'm not sure why there wasn't time to take care of me. You should feel glorious after dropping $120/$130 on hair... read more

I went to this salon for the first time the week! I found it on yelp. I Loved it!! Raquel is awesome and gave me great hair cut. My hair was a total uneven mess from a cut at another salon, Raquel completely fixed it!! I will be going back for sure!! I just had my first experience at W salon yesterday and, there are not enough good things I can say. It is so refreshing to walk into an upscale salon and not feel judged or uncomfortable. The environment was clean and well kept, and there was tons of natural light. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful, and seemed to truly enjoy what they were doing. I had highlights, a haircut and deva curl tutorial with Tanya, and she was wonderful, she was excited to help me acheive the cut and style I was looking for and also to help me learn how to recreate it at home.
