If this was a food review, I would be tipping my cap to the tasty charred cauliflower, Brussels, hummus and guacamole starters but it's not. The waiting staff that we got looked like they had been dragged in from a bad hangover and told to work double shifts. The girl was not friendly, and rolled her eyes so much that I thought she had spotted something in the ceiling. She was one of those that think they can remember the whole table order without writing it down- then gets defensive when they mess it up. We had to have her replaced as her attitude was more welcome than a case of herpes. We spoke to the manager but they were equally less impressive and dismissive. Good food. Good mission. Poor staff. I like that the food is on the healthier side! Unfortunately everyone we've been to True Food, our food comes out cold - the amount of times we e had to send it back!! We went yesterday and order a chopped salad! Most of the ingredients were missing! I was told that the pizza guy that made the salad didn't know what ingredients needed to be added! I mean really!!! That Vegan Double Cheeseburger was so good! One of the best things I ever tasted (vegan). My mentor was raving about it. I finally tried it and she wasn't lying. It's delicious! First time at the spot. Didn't grab the health inspection score, but it was likely good because of the area. All of the staff were very nice and polite. I'll be coming back very soon I hope. This restaurant continues to go down hill! I live a block away in the Avalon area, and have been to this restaurant several times, each time the experience gets worse and worse. I don't plan to eat here again. We were greeted by an unfriendly, snooty waitress. we ordered the $20 burger medium, it arrived over cooked/well done and dry as a hockey puck, seems like they cook up a batch, leave them in a bowl and reheat them when ordered. Needless to say we had to send it back. Five Guys does a better burger. The other item was a a dripping wet wrap with two little pieces of chicken in it. The protein addition is extra, and not worth it. There are plenty of great restaurants in the Avalon location, this is not one of them, not sure how long this place will be around. read more

The best salad I have ever had! We have been to the Avalon quite a bit since moving here. We love the area and all it has to offer. Many times I have wondered what the food here was like... so finally I took my wife here for a little lunch date. The inside is bright and nicely laid out. You can see into the kitchen and that place is hopping. Service is outstanding and the over all atmosphere is wonderful. It was a great place to have an intimate lunch while also being surrounded by others. We started with a couple of drinks... I had the common bond... it was delicious and dangerously easy to drink... I felt like I could have kept an endless stream of them coming, I didn't, but they were so good I wanted too. Then we hit the appetizer... their Brussel sprouts. As I've said before we love Brussels and try them everywhere we go. These had a chili string component to them that really pumped up their exceptional flavor... the were OHHH MY GODDIE TOOO DARN HOTTIE!!! Seriously out of this world! I had been craving a really good salad for a while so I tried their chopped salad. It is a generous portion consisting of medjool dates, dried cranberries, jicama, organic apples, manchego, farro, marcona almonds, mixed greens, and lovingly covered in a champagne vinaigrette. This is very simply put... THE BEST SALAD I HAVE EVER HAD! The dates were a pleasant surprise of sweetness that complimented the tang of the dressing and the savory of the manchego. The almonds played extremely well with the jicama adding a crunch that really elevated the salad beyond just the lettuce. All of the ingredients melded together in a symphony of delight! Since eating this salad I have craved it over and over. We now get it delivered to our home and my wife eats it too. It is just heavenly!! I just can't say enough about this wonderful establishment! I've always been a big fan of True Food Kitchen, even though I didn't love the prices. However, these days, you really gotta pay for healthy clean food, and True Food definitely has that! I've been to the Buckhead location a few times and also visited the sister concept, Flower Child. I didn't care that it was cold outside - but their outdoor seating is dog friendly so I went out of my way to bring my pup. They even brought her a bowl of water! Super dog friendly. You can scan the QR code for the menu. It's organized pretty well - with seasonal specials popping up first. I like their cocktails - always super refreshing without being super boozy - as healthy as a cocktail can get, I suppose... the Herbalist was a thirst quenching gin cocktail that went down smooth. The Yerba Mate is also a super Insta drink that's a pretty violet/pink color and non-alcoholic! I also highly recommend the raspberry limeade if you're looking for a tasty non-alcoholic Bev! I always choose the seasonal dishes if I can, but if you're stopping in to True Food Kitchen and they aren't available, I highly recommend the spaghetti squash casserole (i love me some red sauce and pasta alternatives) and the Ancient Grains bowl. I added steak to my spaghetti squash for some more meaty oomph. But I tried the grilled chicken Parmesan last March and OMG I wish it was on the menu year-round. The grilled veggies were fantastic and the chicken tasted like a legit chicken parm (my friend kept stealing bites LOL). Hope you can still find it on the menu from time to time! My boyfriend and I have both been here but to the Buckhead location so I was looking forward to trying it up here at the Avalon. We met my girlfriend for dinner and the weather was perfect for sitting outside. The waitress was super nice but the food fell short. My boyfriend got the tacos and said they were just okay. My girlfriend liked her lasagna but I really thought my ancient grain bowl was just okay. My salmon was over cooked and the grains were hard, and I'm guessing not cooked long enough. The sweet potatoes were pretty good but overall the bowl lacked flavor. The side of pesto and soy helped some but just didn't really love the meal. I love the concept of this restaurant and the fact they really try to creat healthy meals. I'm all for healthy but just missed the mark on flavor and either overcooking or undercooking some things. On initial glance, prices are a little high (but then again its in Avalon and healthy food seems to always have a higher premium). I ordered the Ancient Grains Bowl with Salmon. It was PHENOMENAL! I really wanted to like the food- I love the focus on high quality ingredients. We ordered through Uber eats, a chicken sandwich with a side of Mac & cheese, and the whole grain bowl. The chicken sandwich came without any of the toppings.... I asked for sauce on the side, and somehow ended up with just a dry chicken breast on a bun. No sauce. Nothing. The whole grain bowl was okay but kind of small I thought. (I know better ingredients cost more, but the total bill from the restaurant was ~$55 which seems steep to me) The mac and cheese was very bland and needed salt at the minimum. Maybe it's a better experience in person, but it was a pretty disappointing experience through Uber eats, which is a shame after spending $70 for a very subpar dinner. One of the worst meals I've had at Avalon. Got the Panang curry (recommended by the server), and added chicken. It came out as a bowl of soupy mess, nothing like you'd get at even a half-decent Thai restaurant. Taste was blah at best. The vegan movement has come a long way since its inception. The concept of forsaking the consumption of any animal products began in November of 1944 according to an article by The Vegan Society.  Just a few short years ago, I remember going to restaurants and the only options available were salads or building a meal with side items.  That got old very quickly.  Moving forward to today, there are restaurants that offer 100% of their menu to...you guessed it, Vegans!  This is super exciting for serious Vegans like me; especially since I've been Vegan for nearly 6 years.  I am Vegan, but also very American.   Being a true American, I love a good hamburger.   I'm not alone in this.  It's been very interesting to see the variations of meatless patties that have been created.  I haven't had an interest in Impossible or Beyond burgers.  So, they will not be considered in this review.  I've had black bean burgers that were too mushy to call a burger.  I've also tried veggie burgers that seemed more like vegetables pressed into the shape of a patty.  And I've had Vegan burgers with patties made from oats and other grains that fall apart and all you're left with is crumbled bits of a patty all over your plate.  Out of all the restaurants that serve Vegan burgers made with a combination of veggies, grains and/or beans that I've tried, the best burger I've had is the Vegan Double Cheeseburger from True Food Kitchen.   This burger is AMAZING!  The flavor is, "Muy bien" or "Very good" in Spanish.  The patties are house-made with portobello mushrooms, walnuts, beets and lots of herbs and spices.  Each burger is adorned with crispy lettuce, pickled onion, organic tomato, Vegan cheddar and jalapeño remoulade stacked between a flaxseed bun.  The flavors from the patties, cheese, and every topping meld together like a beautiful symphony of robust flavor and deliciousness.  This incredible burger is paired with either a kale salad that is massaged with a very inviting lemon vinaigrette or the tantalizing sweet potato hash or both.  It is like Heaven every time I indulge in this wonderful gift True Food Kitchen has given to the Vegan community.   If you are looking for a great hamburger to feast on, consider trying True Food Kitchens' Vegan Double Cheeseburger whether you're Vegan or not.   You will be glad you did! read more
