    Spaghetti Squash Casserole, VEG GF

True Food Kitchen It's one of the few restaurants in Chicago that serves real food made with natural ingredients. I like the variety on the menu--they have snacks, pizzas, bowls, and more. A standout is the zucchini spaghetti; I asked them to add chicken, and it was delicious--super light and healthy. Another plus is that they list the calorie and protein content for each dish on the menu--for me, that makes all the difference, and it's one of the few restaurants that does this. The atmosphere is also very

Overall a decent restaurant. I agree with the consensus that it is overpriced. Portions weren't bad though as several people said. The roasted cauliflower was decent but the dates were all at the bottom of the bowl. The butternut squash soup was solid. Unfortunately the turkey burger was very bland and didn't have much flavor. Overall for a healthy option I would recommend it. I was in the area for work and it can definitely be difficult to find restaurants with wholesome, non-fatty, non-fried options. In this case, I would prefer something more on the healthy side and sacrifice a little bit of flavor.

All staff is very friendly and effective. Various options of healthy food, but also some options for those who loves a burger! Lots of tables inside and outside and great for all sizes of groups.

This restaurant is so beautiful inside. Described as new American food. Fresh farm to table. I wouldn't say the food matches the vibe, unfortunately. My partner got spaghetti squash casserole and added shrimp. The casserole was pretty good but lacked salt. I've made this at home so it was overall disappointing. The shrimp were overcooked and slightly. My Chinese chicken salad had all promising ingredients but was not flavorful in the slightest. The dressing was the star of the show, but still needed salt. The service was attentive but we found paper in a drink, had to ask for salt and pepper (but may be a personal preference) and the people next to us didn't get the correct food. But they were jerks, ate the whole meal and then wanted a refund because "they're on the road" and had to get out. The way the manager and waitress handled that situation was very professional. The other table clearly had never worked service jobs before. With lots of amazing options for food in Chicago, we will probably not be back.

We've been a few times and it's always great. Dennis took care of us today and was very attentive. I ordered the Turkey Burger with a side of Kale which was great and started with the Cauliflower. When you get a bite with the dates it really pulls the dish together.

I had Gerard and he was phenomenal with both his service and his recommendations! I had the ancient grain bowl with chicken and also the spiced carrot cake, both I will get again!

We have been to True Food Kitchen locations in the past. We decided to try this one in Chicago. The food is definitely consistent and tasted the same. They had a couple new seasonal items on their menu, which I always appreciate. The service was a little bit slow as they were busy and seemed shortstaffed. Overall, the vibe was great and we really enjoyed our experience. We came at happy hour and tried a lot of their items from the menu that were a part of the happy hour. We will definitely return again.

A few blocks off the Magnificent Mile, this was a great scratcher-made, plant-forward restaurant for all eaters. Lots of veg and gluten free options. Flavors are strong and balanced. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. Open airy space feels large in a crowded city. It was hard to choose what to eat!

Such a lovely environment to dine in.

As a newly diagnosed celiac it was critical to find a restaurant that could assure no gluten contamination. True North not only provided the gluten free food, but it was fantastic. Had the grass fed burger and kale side salad. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. Will be back.

    Are the takeout containers compostable?

The bottoms definitely ar compostable; I don't know about the clear tops - they seem to be plastic, but it's possible they are a kind of compostable material; I should have asked when I was there recently.

Unfortunately Machine was not open, which is downstairs from this place, so we went here. Usually there is a bouncer outside, covering both places, but no one was at the door so me and The Queen walked upstairs. The bouncer was upstairs and saw us come in, so he asked for ID. He explained that everyone gets card before they come in, which is not a issue for me. The overall vibe, for me, was definitely a frat hangout vibe. There are arcade games all over the place and cutesy names for beers and cocktails, like the Froot Loops (vodka, coriander honey, oat milk, shochu, saline, milk carton, and froot loops). Man I do not do cocktails and this is the reason why. There is too much going on in that glass for me to deal with. Prices for cocktails range from $14-$15. BFF #1 got a vodka soda for $13, but looking at the size of the glass, it was on the small side. BFF #1 said it was on the weak side. I was happy to hear that there was prosecco, so I got that. The Doctor showed up and got a beer. The selection of beers was limited from what I could see on the wall, maybe there was a list someone else behind the bar. The bartender was a really sweet, she was all smiles and kept calling me baby, which was so funny to me. I tipped her well because she was great on them pours of prosecco. We did not do food as we were heading to Club Lago for dinner and I didn't realize that they had food until I checked into Yelp and saw the online menu. The Queen actually went to a DJ set here with Roosevelt, I believe, and said it was a good event. Not a place I would normally hang out in, but I can see the appeal for folks in their 20s as I would definitely say outside of The Queen, the three of us were the oldest folks in there. Lots of people taking Instagram photos and posing or making short videos with those ring lights. I imagine it can get super loud when it is busy, but that is a vibe for some folks. I would say if that is your thing, this is the place for you.

We ordered a flight of whiskey sours, which contained whiskeys from Japan, Vietnam, and Wisconsin. I also was able to order an amaretto sour, which they made with freshly hand beaten egg whites, which was a nice cherry on the top. As far as the whiskey flights go, I think the best one was the Vietnam flight because it had a slightly lemongrass twang and was a little bit lighter than the other two. The heaviest one was the Wisconsin which came with a little bit of a bite at the end, but it still wasn't bad if you're trying to blackout on a $15 budget. I would definitely come back with a larger group this seems like a great place, but is a little bit loud- so if you be prepared to yell or wear earplugs. Taylor for a lower price. Sold! I made a reservation and stopped in that week (if not that very day). The Old Fashioned was fantastic! It had strong whiskey notes without hitting you with a wall of spirit the way a Manhattan, for example, does. The other additions of bitters and syrup did a perfect job rounding the cocktail out, adding sweet and savory notes. As much as I love variety, I loved it so much, I ordered two! I can't lie and say this wasn't at least in part due to the reduced price, that notwithstanding, me ordering two of the same is some of the highest, non-verbal praise one could get from me. For a main, I had the opportunity to try the burger, a special only available 5:00 - 6:30, and mind you I eked in by the skin of my teeth. Before I attempt to break this down, though, I need to take a slight tangent: Do any of you remember the quote from The Menu where Anya Taylor-Joy says: "A real cheeseburger. Not some fancy, deconstructed, affluent b***s***, a *real* cheeseburger."? I am pleased to report the burger here was somewhere between Chef Slowik's "very traditional cheeseburger" and the one Taylor Joy describes! In other words, just fancy enough to feel like I am getting a unique, creative, well thought out dish, but without all the pomp and circumstance! There's just one little problem: as soon as I bit into it, the juices erupting from within soaked the bottom bun, and turned it into a fork and knife affair with an unseen level of precision and speed. Very regrettably, this was the burger's undoing. That first, heavenly bite that had angels singing showed what the burger was really made of (and I mean this figuratively and literally). The beef was of the highest quality, well-seasoned, cooked medium and juicy, with a perfect sear that would have Louis Camille Maillard crying tears of joy. Two types of cheese (one being crisp and airy, the other thoroughly gooey and savory), the perfect amount of bacon, moisture and flavor from a tempura tomato, and divine sauces! One of them was a little sweet, which elevated the flavor like no one's business. Together, all these flavors were a symphony that could give Beethoven a run for his money. However, that unfortunate fact that the thing fell apart so quickly meant that symphony was limited to one bite, the rest being encountered piecemeal. I would rather skip fries than skip dessert (which I did), and ordered the Mango cheesecake. Such velvety perfection! Neither the sweetness nor the mango notes were overpowering, and while it didn't have the crust of a traditional cheesecake, the more gentle variant here absolutely works. I also appreciated the tart sorbet to offer some contrast in flavor, temperature, and texture. Now, let me talk about the service. Given that the restaurant was at capacity, the bar service and speed to get my items was reasonable. Could it hypothetically have been just a touch faster/more attentive? Yes, but in practice, when you have a full house, this is as good as it can get before robots take over. Finally, there is the matter of prices. There is no doubt in my mind that the quality is up there, at the same time, the reason I skipped the side of fries was it would have set me back $11. I suppose the real question is whether or not the quality equals the price, and after some reflection, I think the answer is yes, but one must be prepared for the sticker shock ahead of time. That said, the final verdict: The Franklin Room absolutely delivers on an all-around fantastic meal. I think whatever you order will be in the 90th percentile, at worst! However, this comes at a cost. Therefore, I would love to return to the Franklin Room, but it would likely be more a very occasional treat than a place where I'd be a regular.

The 1st that plans ahead and gets to places early. And the 2nd that is there for a good time but always gets everywhere late. Those of us that wanted to come early and not worry decided that we wanted to go to a restaurant close by to wait for our tour time and that's how we found Ema. As soon as we walk inside we see how beautiful and modern the interior looks. They had a lot of seating available and we got a nice table by the window with a view We wanted to eat light before the tour so we shared a bunch of small plates. We ordered the mushroom escargot, lemon Caesar, crispy potatoes, a couple orders of hummus and some chicken kebabs. That mushroom escargot was one of my favorite things I ate during the entire Chicago trip. The mushrooms were creamy and rich. It tasted umami, bright from the lemon, slightly spicy from the Calabrian breadcrumbs, and paired perfectly with some warm pita bread on the side. The hummus was smooth and well seasoned. The lemon caesar was fresh and fairly standard. The crispy potatoes were perfectly textured and were soft and pillowy on the inside. As long as they sat on the table they never lost their crisp. The chicken kebabs were tenderly, juicy and garlicky. We were all putting together our perfect bite combinations with the pita bread. Everything we ordered I would actually order again. Though may want to try a different salad next time since the Caesar was pretty simple. Regardless, still no real complaints with the food Our server was charismatic and funny. He had a great attitude and entertained us throughout the meal. Everything came out promptly as well so we made it out and could take our time walking to the riverboats. Lucky for our friends the tour said they'd be docked for a few minutes after our scheduled start time to set everything up. As 3 minutes after our start time we see group 2 sprinting up from a couple blocks away Overall Ema was consistent, flavorful and reliable. Not a bad price point either for what you get.
