Go for their Happy Hour! It's Monday through Friday 3-6pm and you can get cocktails, beer, wine, pizza, and a few appetizer options. I got an espresso martini and the edamame dumplings and would highly recommend both! The ambience is casual, bright, and service is always good. I usually sit at the bar and I've never had an issue with waiting for a seat. Overall for a healthy option I would recommend it. I was in the area for work and it can definitely be difficult to find restaurants with wholesome, non-fatty, non-fried options. I think this place is a hard pass. While the atmosphere is nice and green, I think the food is seriously lacking. I understand the idea of "healthy" but "good," but this food simply isn't good. But maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. I had the chicken sandwich and it was lackluster. I think I could make a better one at home. The side kale salad was also just fine. It's basically the same one that you can get from the premade bar at Whole Foods and the Whole Foods once is infinitely better. TFK used to be an absolute go-to forever. They had vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free options making it so easy to bring guests with dietary preferences too. I've returned a few times in the past 12 months and sadly, the quality has deteriorated. Firstly, the service is terrible - absolutely inattentive. It's not even one person - it's the culture. They're all hanging around in the back - by the kitchen - chatting. No water refills, no check-ins, nothing. Second, the food isn't the same anymore. Their pizza oven is either broken, they've run out of key ingredients, or some new issue each time. The veggie patty was a favorite - it's just overly salty now. The juice quantity is a fraction - filling 70% of the glass with ice. I still appreciate they have gluten-free brunch options and for dessert. But I really hope someone in corporate is reading this and can revive TFK - I miss relying on it for good food! read more

My partner got spaghetti squash casserole and added shrimp. The casserole was pretty good but lacked salt. I've made this at home so it was overall disappointing. The shrimp were overcooked and slightly. My Chinese chicken salad had all promising ingredients but was not flavorful in the slightest. The dressing was the star of the show, but still needed salt. The service was attentive but we found paper in a drink, had to ask for salt and pepper (but may be a personal preference) and the people next to us didn't get the correct food. But they were jerks, ate the whole meal and then wanted a refund because "they're on the road" and had to get out. The way the manager and waitress handled that situation was very professional. The other table clearly had never worked service jobs before. With lots of amazing options for food in Chicago, we will probably not be back. read more

Came for brunch there was only one vegan option which was the "southwest tofu scramble". The tofu was cubed instead of scrambled and had nothing in it besides a sauce mixed in, some onion peels, and a few slices of avocado on top. Couldn't bring ourselves to eat even half of it although we were starving. Manager never checked in on us though there were barely any people in there and he kept walking right past us. We have been to True Food Kitchen locations in the past. We decided to try this one in Chicago. The food is definitely consistent and tasted the same. They had a couple new seasonal items on their menu, which I always appreciate. The service was a little bit slow as they were busy and seemed shortstaffed. Overall, the vibe was great and we really enjoyed our experience. We came at happy hour and tried a lot of their items from the menu that were a part of the happy hour. Our overall experience was frustrating and anxiety producing! We've been to this restaurant at least a half dozen times. The food is very good and tonight it was good as well. Tonight's issue was the management of the restaurant. We expected it to be crowded for a Valentine's Day. Waits were frustrating but tolerable. We waited 30 minutes to be seated, even though we had a reservation. We got our drinks but it took almost an hour to get water. It was a prefix menu. They forgot to bring the bread appetizer, so we had to ask for it after we got our entrées, an hour later. The bread, appetizer, our entrées, and our dessert were all very good. The most frustrating part was sitting near the front door. With a crowd of people waiting to be seated. There was a terrible draft throughout the evening because people were holding the door open. All of this would've been manageable, but there was so much anxiety about others being seated. The two young hostesses seem to be doing a good job, but then some man in red pants who worked there seemed to take control and stopped seating people. People were getting angry. There were lots of tables open. There was a greater draft with a greater crowd. The whole front section seemed micromanaged. Since it took us two hours to eat, it just became very irritating. This experience may have spoiled this restaurant for me, unfortunately. We've had slower service there before, but by the end of the night, I was just ready to get out of there. I've been wanting to try True Food for a long time and finally got it on DoorDash for dinner last night... wow what a JOKE. We paid 80 DOLLARS for two entrees plus steak bites for both of us. I understand it's grass fed/organic and I'm willing to pay for quality but the portions were laughable for the price. The steak bites were overcooked and dry. The sweet potato hash was clearly sitting out alllllll day. It was literally so dry and waxy that after trying a few pieces it was inedible. Like literally dry caked your mouth. The carrots were decent but again tiny portion. The shrimp was cooked well, that was about the only redeeming quality. After $40 pp and inedible sides we were still hungry after dinner. The bun was bad, patty was odd and burnt, didn't have much taste and the greens wasn't up to expectation. I got the seasonal vegetables as a side and it was even worse. Cauliflower was overseasoned just like the carrots and it was weird texture. I was in such disbelief I didn't even capture the picture. They then replaced it with the Ancient Grain Bowl and the avocado was stale as if it was sitting out all day and the quinoa wasnt the best texture at all. The portions on the mushrooms was so little and the onions weren't even cooked all the way. The customer service wasn't good at all.
