It's really hard to go wrong with Beatrix. On thing I'm always impressed with is that they stay consistent. The food is always really good and the drinks are well made. The service here is always great, the servers know the menu really well and are super friendly. This is also a spot that although casual still has a really great vibe. It's an easy spot for lunch, after work drinks, and a sit down dinner. Pro tip: Although not on the menu, the bartenders at Beatrix make a great French75 cocktail

My lunch go to. The salad bar is amazing, the cheese is soo good! The feta and moz are so fresh, yesterday was east Africa themed and it was incredible. The collard greens had so much flavor... truly food that feels good. The cookies at the coffee shop are incredible too. Coffee opens at 7, the buffet opens 7:30 and changes to lunch at 10:30, after 5 the pizza is $2 off.

This market was so cute! I got a huge plate of salad for under $20. The staff was really friendly too. They also had a station for deep dish pizza and baked goods. A really good workday lunch spot or meeting spot!

Amazing restaurant and coffee! Open-buffet style food options - weighed by the pound. Everytging is so fresh and delicious. Ample seating for just meeting with friends or catching up on emails. Great service!

Stumbled upon this place and I'm so glad I did! Best gluten free donut I've ever had, all allergens were clearly marked, staff was very friendly, the strawberry matcha was delicious, and the whole place is super cute. 100% recommend!

The space was amazing and welcoming. I enjoyed the deep dish spinach. I could have used a little more seasoning, oregano, salt and a little garlic. It would have been 5-stars if the seasoning was better. The service was stellar. The staff provide great information.

Wonderful service every time!! This time it's the very kind barista /bartender Jessica . She said she works downstairs at the bar sometimes too:) I brought a bunch of change and she was kind enough to count through it. She made the most fantastic matcha latte with coconut milk too! And then continued to offer me a large oat apple cookie ! yum yum :) After my experience of falling on my face holding a large ice matcha last time in the basement( I am still quite embarrassed about it and the bruise is almost fading ... so embarrassment slowly fading ) I was kinda hesitant on coming back but it's always a fantastic experience:) The pizza here is another highlight on top of the wonderful customer service Every-time! Always looking forward on coming back for another drink or snack!

    Sandwich I got

I ordered ahead the California Chicken Sandwich. Description on website grilled chicken breast, avocado, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise on a toasted sourdough. Sounds yummy right?! Only problem is I did not get that instead I got a 12 grain bread, deli chicken slices, avocado, cheese and some arugula. Disappointing.

Beatrix Market has a store in DePaul Loop. It basically is a kind of upscale salad bar and market. Way to get high quality food conveniently without a wait. Has a lot of interesting choices. There's meaty items plus things for vegans. It certainly is good for those in a hurry. Popular among downtown office employees who don't have enough time to go order something from a restaurant. This is something that can be eaten later and holds up pretty well. Mostly of course. The majority of things still taste good later. Coffee is always a convenient choice. The salad bar is especially good. Greens always look fresh. Hummus is a big feature and there's lots of different flavors beyond the typical. Also there's plenty of junk food. The pizza isn't just that deep dish stuff, and is made in a wood fired oven. Anyone wanting to eat here can. It has a small seating area downstairs. This however doesn't seem to be popular as most people just get takeout.

This cute little pizza shop, café, and lunch buffet (hot and cold) is only a 3-4 block walk from the Art Institute. Self-service. Separate coffee shop area with many baked treats. Our hot meals were delicious, scored a bottled Diet Coke, too. Bit pricey, charged by weight, so a meal from the hot/cold bar could easily run $10-17, plus drinks and dessert. Very clean. Staff was super friendly.

We stopped by here before and after our visit to the Art Institute. Drinks and food are reasonably priced and food quality is very good. But, the most impressive thing is their lounge area downstairs. If you're visiting the Art Institute, walk past the Starbucks and give this place a try. You won't regret it.

So yelp completely saved the day for me with Beatrix market. I was downtown early for work (not the norm for me) and wanted to pick up breakfast. I didn't want a full on sit down meal but also didn't want a bagel/doughnut/pastry. Yelp guided me to Beatrix and it's exactly what I wanted. It's a cafeteria but the nicest/stylish cafeteria I have ever seen. I was able to get scrambled eggs, sausage and potatoes. They also had scrambled egg whites, breakfast burritos, and quiche. The items were labeled to show what was gluten free. In addition was a hummus bar and salad bar along with fresh fruit and yogurt parfaits. There was no line for food. There was a line 3 deep for the coffee, but it went quick. I got the turmeric chai and it was delicious. I was afraid it would have a heavy turmeric taste but it did not. There is a seating area downstairs with the bar that felt like an old school study. When I was eating around 8 am on a Wednesday there was only three other people down there. Overall my food was really good and hit the spot. The atmosphere was also better than expected!

We chose to dine at Girl & the Goat in Chicago, a restaurant we had never visited before. The acclaimed restaurant by renowned chef Stephanie Izard truly lived up to its stellar reputation! One of the first things we appreciated was the convenience of the restaurant's valet parking, located right by the front patio. At $22 for up to four hours and $26 for four to eight hours, the rates were quite reasonable for the area. As soon as the three of us stepped inside Girl & the Goat (we had made a reservation for 6:30 pm on a Friday), we were warmly greeted by one of the two friendly hostesses, and were promptly led to a comfortable four-top table with a banquette and two chairs along the wall. We felt fortunate to have one of the better tables in the dining room, as some of the others were positioned very close together. The nearby two-top tables, in particular, were quite small and placed only a short distance from ours. The restaurant's rustic-industrial décor was dark but trendy and stylish, the lively and vibrant vibe was warm and welcoming. However, I have to mention that it was really loud in the dining room, as guests seemed to be enjoying themselves and talked loudly.  It was hard to hear our server and the staff who delivered and explained the dishes to us.  Our server, Yazmin, was extremely friendly and attentive.  It was very sweet of her to wish us a happy anniversary both in the beginning  and at the end of the meal.  She also checked in on us several times during the evening.  Now, on to the food and drinks. I started with a glass of the NA Sparkling Rosé ($17), which was light, crisp, and quite refreshing. My husband ordered a glass of Le Colture Prosecco ($18), while our daughter chose the Sun Kid ($18). She enjoyed her drink, although she felt the portion was a bit small, as the glass was filled with a lot of ice that took up much of the space. Since the restaurant offers small to medium plates which are shareable, Yazmin advised us to get 5 to 6 dishes for 3 people to share.  We decided to get 5 savory dishes and 3 desserts to share: Savory dishes: Chickpea Fritters ($20), goat yogurt, green chutney, sev spice crunch, pickled rhubarb. Pan Roasted Halibut ($37), miso-Marcona almond butter, spring onion blueberry nuoc cham. Roasted Pig Face ($28), sunny side egg, tamarind, cilantro, red wine-maple, potato stix. Goat Empanadas ($24), smoked tomato-corn salsa, roasted poblano crema queso fresco. Confit Goat Belly ($38), strawberry goat braise, smoked yogurt drizzle, pickled strawberries. Desserts: Vacation, Please! ($16), toasted coconut crunch, lemon passion fruit sorbet, rum-soaked pineapple cake. Berry Yummy Par-tea ($16), earl grey soaked sponge cake, yuzu curd, spiced blackberries. Chocolate Basil Brownie Bash ($16), olive oil semifreddo, chocolate fennel crunch, basil granita. The meal was just phenomenal!  All the savory dishes were cooked perfectly with bold flavors; the meats were tender and full of flavors.  There were dishes that we normally would not have ordered if we saw them on menus of other restaurants.  Here, we tried them and were delighted that we did!  Our consensus is that Roasted Pig Face is our most favorite! It is everything we love in a comfort dish -- crispy on the outside, meltingly tender inside, and packed with rich, balanced flavor.  We will definitely order this again!  The Confit Goat Belly is a close second, with buttery, fall-apart meat and just the right balance of richness, acidity, and crunch. For dessert, "Vacation, Please!" is the one that we will always come back for. The toasted coconut crunch adds texture, the lemon passion fruit sorbet brings a refreshing tang, and the rum-soaked pineapple cake ties it all together with just the right amount of sweetness.  The other two desserts that we ordered were also very good.  The staff even brought out a scoop of Chocolate Ice Cream on the house, with two lit candles to celebrate our anniversary - a thoughtful touch that made the evening even more memorable.  This dessert spread was the perfect ending to an incredible meal. I'd like to mention that the restaurant added a 4% surcharge to the bill, which the customer may request to have the surcharge remove if you choose.  We let them keep it. We spent about two hours at the restaurant. The savory dishes came out very quickly, the pace probably was even a tad too fast, but the desserts made up for it by taking a longer time.  We did not mind as we were still full, and had time to enjoy the ambiance more.  I would say it is a restaurant great for group gathering and celebratory functions, but not so much for intimate romantic date night.  All in all, it was a wonderful dinner, we look forward to returning again.

I was there the other week (I've been here at least five times before), and a busser--not our…read morewaiter--started clearing both of our plates before we were finished eating. We each only had a couple of bites left, but it definitely gave off an "okay, you're done now" vibe. Then he went to take the green beans (arguably the cult classic on the menu), and we still had more than half of them left. I had to stop him and say, "Yeah, we're not done with those. We paid for them. Can you put them in a to-go box instead?" For context, it was about 20 minutes before closing, but we ordered with plenty of time and were already eating with a "get in, eat, and get out" mindset. I've just never had someone at a restaurant start clearing plates while we were still actively eating--without asking, "Are you finished?" "Can I clear this?" or "Would you like a to-go box?" It was just... "You're done, these are leaving now." We were there for less than 45 minutes, left about 15 minutes before closing, and spent over $200 (not including the tip). With so many options in Chicago, I don't see myself coming back here.

We ordered the venison burger and, honestly, I was hesitant at first because I was worried it might be too gamey. However, our server did a great job explaining what to expect, and she was absolutely right. The venison patty was juicy, flavorful, and exceeded my expectations. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was attentive and efficient throughout our meal. They also have an impressive selection of signature cocktails. I didn't end up trying one because the drink I was interested in sounded a bit too strong for lunch, but it's definitely given me a reason to come back later for drinks. After we sat down, our server took her sweet time getting to us and was largely absent the entire visit while the servers for the others tables were attentive and present as I've come to expect. We started with the Crispy Brussels and Burrata Toast which was an amazing and fun combination of flavors textures with the sherry glaze and pickled onions providing a perfect counter to the richness of the cheese. Our second course was the Gage Caesar which we've had before and have enjoyed sharing multiple times, but this time the lettuce was full of grit as if the prep chef did not even bother washing the lettuce. The server never came by to check on us so I had to wave the manager to complain about the salad. The server also never checked to see if we wanted refills on our cocktails so we placed our orders with the manager. The final dish was the venison burger which was perfectly cooked and seasoned if you like venison, which I do so we enjoyed that greatly. The condiments that came with it were perfectly matched to balance the game of the meat and the fries were perfect as usual! The server then FINALLY got more involved with our dinner and was predictably perky and present at the end, something that always irks me when they have been otherwise absent for the meal. The ONLY reason they are getting 3 stars instead of less for this visit was the flavor of the food and the response of the manager in dealing with the lack of service (and the gritty salad). I would give the initial server a zero if I could.

It was a beautiful and fresh salad with tomatoes, nectarines, red onion, croutons, and stracciatella cheese as the bottom base instead of lettuce. It was delicious! I paired it with the lobster bisque, which was epic. It has this magnificent puff pastry baked over the top and it's so tasty to dip in the bisque. Truly special. My boyfriend loved his meatloaf entree. We also really enjoyed the Wagyu meatballs as our appetizer, which had a perfectly spicy marinara sauce with it.
