I was fortunate enough to be invited on to a private charter of Elizabeth by a friend who is always concocting methods of brightening up what would otherwise be another dreary "spring" weekend. I wasn't quite prepared for how spacious the boat was both on deck and in the hold. We played some alcohol-fuelled board games around the table in the hold then pumped up the music (my friend's selection) before heading out on deck to marvel at one of the most famous cityscapes in the world and wave to the poor tourists who decided to make a day trip to Liberty Island! Captain Nate kept a steady hand on the tiller and regaled us with tales of his swashbuckling adventures on the high seas. I'm not really a nautical person but the whole experience had me reconsidering my chosen career path. We've already planned ahead and scheduled a charter for early summer. We had an incredible time sailing with True Sailing NYC! I reached out and received a response right away with all the details I needed to feel great about booking the charter. And up until we boarded received great communication with Captain Nate. We met up at the Brooklyn Heights pier to board and received amazing service the entire time. We brought our own our own food and drink and were able to play our own music through their system, to truly make it our own experience. 3 hours was the perfect amount of time to relax and see amazing views of the city and get super close to the Statue of Liberty. My group was 5 girlfriends so of course we had to take a ton of pictures and Kimberly helped capture our trip beautifully. If you're on the fence, do it! You won't regret it. read more

A few weeks ago, I spent the afternoon on the Elizabeth: True Sailing NYC's beautiful 42ft, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom sailboat piloted by Captain Nate Richter. We flew around the New York harbor, within spitting distance of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Verazanno, etc. Nate's been sailing these waters for years and has designed trips of varying lengths. He can charter up to 6 passengers for about $100 a head for a 2 hour cruise. And if you're interested in actually learning how to sail such a vessel - I was - you can set your glass of wine down and get hands on experience trimming the sails, tacking, etc - incredibly cool. We had an absolutely perfect evening yesterday sailing with Nate and Kelsey. We did a 2-hour sunset sail out of Jersey City (really easy to park and the boat is right next to the lot). We packed our own food and wine and Kelsey took over with serving and making sure our glasses were never empty. So much more service than we expected - I did not do a thing except enjoy the spectacular sunset and breezes. Weather and currents are never in the control of the captain, but everything was perfect last night. Nate is an excellent captain and a delightful person to chat with. I had an incredible time with Nate and the crew from True Sailing NYC. We started our day in Coney Island with an incredible meditation session on the boat and sailed during sunset back to NYC where we picked up a couple of my friends in the Financial District and spent the evening celebrating my birthday around the statue of liberty. It was one of the most beautiful and memorable experiences of my years in NYC. Captain Nate is kind, knowledgeable and super fun to be around. We chartered a two-hour private evening sail to surprise my husband, and it was amazing. There were four of us, and the captain did everything to accommodate us, including letting my husband sail. The young woman helping him took pictures for us (beautiful sunset, Statue of Liberty, Manhattan skyline at twilight) and even played our teenagers' music. We opted not to bring food or drinks (there are lots of options to do so, we just chose not to); just hanging out on the boat (which was spotless) as we sailed the Hudson was more than enough entertainment for us. We had a fantastic evening with Nate and would recommend highly this beautiful excursion! Although the boat will take 6 passengers we were a family of 4 celebrating the end of summer and saying goodbye to my younger daughter who was off to her last year of college later in the week. We did a sunset sail (6-8pm) out of Jersey City on a ridiculously hot day. On the water we didn't feel the heat, and had a truly lovely evening. It's a terrific thing to do with young adult children, and we'll probably make it an annual tradition! But I'd also recommend it as a great evening for 3 couples ... absolutely magical! read more

September 4, 2017 was one of the best days of my life thanks to Nate and True Sailing NYC. What an amazing sailing experience. This day was beyond memorable to me because it was the day I got engaged to my best friend. My fiancé worked alongside with Nate to come up with the best proposal on his boat! The day consisted of a boat ride tour around Montauk while we ate, relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful day. Nate was beyond accommodating and was just an overall great person to hang out with through the whole day. This is truly an incredible experience. On a three hour sail we saw the Statue of Liberty, great views of Downtown and Brooklyn and sailed the entire time. The captain and first mate were completely hospitable and they played and served all our food and drink. So it was raining pretty hard the day we went out but it was an awesome day. We went right upto the Statue of Liberty and saw everyone waiting in line, huddled under their plastic ponchos while we were surprisingly dry under the boat's deck covering. I also got a turn at steering, with help of course, and stayed clear of ferries and buoys. Felt pretty good actually. Pretty keen on doing it again. Esp when the weather is a bit better. read more

This trip exceeded my expectations. Normally you're a bit concerned about who you'll be trapped on a boat with for hours... but Captain Nate is Mr. Congeniality! He's able to put everyone as ease with his pleasant nature and is extremely welcoming and fun. The boat itself is very clean and spacious - classically authentic!
