The owner should always say hello, welcome, thanks for coming back. Nope, nothing! The food isn't as good as it used to be. Nothing was special. Mushrooms were just okay, sausage was overcooked and dry. No sauces were offered. . Bacon wrapped dates were hard. Lobster Ravioli was slightly fishy. The best dish was the short rib pasta. ( it was quite good )We asked to have it split for us and the chef said that " I dont split". Most restaurants will Split, but sometimes charge a plate fee. That would have been fine. The waitress was attentive and very nice. Overall, there are better options. read more

This review is additional information regarding our dining experience at this restaurant. The owner here, Henry, seems to upset because he only had two tables dining in his restaurant the entire evening. The owner claimed we came into his restaurant with six bottles of wine. I'm not sure where he went to school, but we had four bottles to choose from, of which two would be opened. My friends bag only held four bottles. Nobody at our table was giving you a thumbs up after each plate you served either. You must of confused us with the other table that was dining in your restaurant. The wine list was subpar (imo) and the rest of our party concurred. The wine glasses were like drinking out of goblets that you would get at a roast chicken feast while watching Gladiators fight to the death. Best you revamp your wine list and get some proper stemware to go along with your $20 corkage policy. In addition, please have your facts in order before you try and fabricate an overzealous response to a previous review. read more

Excellent restaurant! Took a party of 6 on Mother's Day and ordered tapas for the entire group. Amazing how one person can cook all of that food in such small quantities and with such high quality. We were all tremendously happy with the good eats and only continued with the desserts. We will come back more often. read more

We went here a few months ago with a group of 4 and was disappointed in the food. We had high hopes since we learned that the chef/owner had started one of our favorite restaurants, Capones, in Huntington Beach. We found the food to just be mediocre and nothing that we would come back for. A big disappointment was the bone marrow dish. When we received it there was almost no marrow in the two pieces we got. I mean literally almost nothing. We did tell our server and they did send one extra piece to the table which was just slightly better. Other dishes we had was just OK. Loved the food here and the service was amazing. Delicious small plates which is great for sharing. The octopus was a tad over cooked for us but the slow braised oxtail was the star of the show for us! This had been on my wife's bookmarks page for a while and we finally got to try it out on a recent date night. We ordered a bottle of wine - and accidentally ordered a bottle of still water, too. I guess. It was fine. The staff there was super-attentive. It's a small place so I noticed only three working staff - one older fellow in the kitchen. One server. And one host/food runner. She was a teenager - and she really wanted to be helpful. Since it's a tapas place - lots of smaller things were ordered. And they were all pretty tasty - my favorite was probably the baked goat cheese or the albondigas meatballs. One tip for the staff: since it's a small place (and there were only 3 other tables while we were in there) we really would prefer not being interrupted each time a new item comes to the table AND then again two minutes later to check on how things are going/tasting. All the staff are never more than 20 feet away - so let us call you over if we need something. Minor check-ins are okay - but we were stopped so often simply to say, "Everything's good." No problems! That's awesome! But on a slower part of the evening - just let us enjoy our food. It's good! read more

We chose to dine here recently based on the generally positive reviews and the impressive breadth of dishes. We ordered the bacon-wrapped dates and the salmon carpaccio, both were excellent. In addition we also ordered the cheese and meat plate, the gnocchi gorgonzola and the calamari: The cheese plate was decent, we received small cubes of three cheeses paired with a few sliced sausages and the usual pile of almonds and dried apricots, but for $22 it's waaaay overpriced The gnocchi gorgonzola was simply gnocchi and cream, I think the chef forgot to add the cheese The calamari steak wasn't fresh; no excuses What do they call the decorative foliage on the plates that you push aside and don't eat? We noticed they weren't fresh, they looked old. Our meal for two ended up being over $80 and whereas some of it was good I found myself thinking this was expensive for something so hit and miss - there are many restaurants where you can get a knockout meal for that amount. read more

What the hell Blaine a tip to 30% last time I was here! Food was good owner was engaged but guess what it'll be a cold day before we're back. My friend and I have frequented this restaurant for the past several months biweekly after work (we are also colleagues). Neither of us thought the food was the best, but it's a good location vis a vis where we each live. The service is generally good- I'll give them that. But, our experience tonight left a lot to be desired. My friend and I ordered the salmon and specified medium rare. We've had the salmon there before and thought it was overcooked. Unfortunately, there was only one salmon left. I got the lamb shank and my friend got the salmon. The salmon came overcooked. When we explained this to the waitress she said she'd speak with the chef-owner, which she did. There were couple back and forths here and my friend indicted he would be fine if they just removed it from the bill since there was no salmon with which to replace the overcooked dish. The waitress offered the sea bass at the same price as the salmon (the former is $15 more). When the check came, the bill was incorrect - we were charged the sea bass price and not the salmon price. We explained this to the waitress and the owner came to speak with us. Before we could get a word in he very aggressively explained the salmon isn't Atlantic salmon and doesn't come medium rare. Why didn't the waitress tell us this? Any case, I explained to him the exchange with the waitress and he absolutely didn't care. My friend and I explained that we frequent the restaurant and I added that we spoke to the him, the owner, a couple of weeks ago. He literally shrugged like he didn't give a ___. I was floored. It was incredibly rude and offensive. When my friend explained the situation further, the owner agreed to what was already discussed- sea bass at the salmon price. Long story short; the check came back wrong again- the waitress told us that the owner added $6 rice. WHAT!? We paid, gave a 20% tip, left, and vowed to never return. It's overpriced food. It tries to be fine dining but you can get better food at Denny's. And there are homeless people outside of the restaurant. Terrible location. Can't attest to their food...didn't get to eat. However their service is subpar. Who made a yelp reservation, we were about 15 minutes early and told to wait. There were no other parties waiting but on quick glance restaurant looked full. My husband and I sat waiting with our toddler. After some time my husband noticed that there was an empty table in the middle of the room. I asked one of the ladies there if we can be seated since there was an open table. "I don't know you have to ask ____" referring to the hostess. Well the hostess was nowhere to be found and she could have offered to ask or locate her for us. We were shocked to learn this place has been open for 7 years and we never heard of it. Food and selection of dishes, especially small plates are noteworthy. We started with a $9 bottle of Spanish blend wine that, after it sat a few minutes, opened up to be a very lovely match to our food. Our party of 4 shared 3 small plates with perfect portions for each of us to take a few bites. Short rib gnocchi was outstanding and the duck, especially the sauce, was memorable. My husband said the Chilean Sea Bass was the best he ever had. I had the lamb shank and it was perfection. The ambiance was OK, dark, small tables close together. Not fancy. Could use a little fluffing up in that area. Wait staff was good. Crowd was light so we could hear each other's chat. I told the owner Henry that I had thought several times about writing a review of his excellent restaurant but hadn't out of purely self serving motivations. Ashamedly I wanted to keep this gem to myself. The menu is extraordinarily diverse. The food is fantastic. The wait staff is highly professional, on point and charming. I couldn't wait to get home to put a review. New to this little gem. Wow wow wow. We opted for a couple salads , (beat and caprese ) and split a few small plates. Not one single thing was disappointing .... Including our darling little waitress. We sat outside and felt transported away from ourselves and some of the nonsense of Covid backlash. We tried the stuffed dates .. A MUST duck breast ..... so yummy And lamb skewers .... Delicious . Obviously we are not afraid of game plates . We will branch out further next time . I have found my last meal. Bread dunked in Henry's oxtail sauce. No, really. It's that good. The only problem was that there wasn't enough bread to soak up the decadence. We had the cheese/ meat platter (other places might call it charcuterie), Spanish salad (licked the plate), calamari (dip it in the truffle infused save with the jalapeño), the Rojas. The lemon cello marscapone cake was a perfect ending for a decadent meal. Everything was delicious. A very limited drink menu but spot on. I had the refresher, so tasty. My husband had the strawberry mint martini was very refreshing. I can't believe this place has been here three and a half years and I haven't heard about it. Add in, our server was extraordinary. Avi was slammed, the only one waiting tables and she handled all the tables with grace, never making you feel rushed. She also understood the flavors of the food. I asked for a substitution. They have expanded their menu and wine list from what's posted here on yelp from 4 months ago We got all tapas - Gambas Al ajillo, mussels & clams, Gorgonzola gnocchi, roasted Brussels sprouts, and Gary's stuffed mushroom. Plus tiramisu for dessert It was a Thursday night, so not too many people. All the food was absolutely delicious. We sat by the counter so we could see the chef/ owner (I think?) Henry cooking. Brussels sprouts - amazing. Would definitely get again. Easily one of the best Brussels sprout dish I've ever had. Gambas Al Ajillo - basically shrimp in tomato sauce with lots of garlic!!! And onions. I love shrimp and the sauce was bomb Gorgonzola gnocchi - I personally recently started liking cheese so I couldn't handle the Gorgonzola part as much, but I still enjoyed it. Was yummy, but probably would not get again, says my boyfriend who loves cheese and gnocchi. Gary's stuffed mushroom - was recommended to us by the server, over the pizette Margherita. 4 small mushrooms but thoroughly enjoyed them. Nothing too amazing but good and prob somewhat healthy Mussels & clams - THE SAUCE. And the bread. THE COMBINATION. Absolutely amazing. Dip the ciabatta bread in the sauce and... wow. We even got extra bread on the side ($3, comes with 2 pieces of bread) Tiramisu was good. The chocolate sauce was a bit too much on the sweet side I would say. Wines: We got the Alberino (crisp and fruity) and the Chianti, both good wines. They have a much wider Variety of wines than the ones in the pictures got 3 glasses of wine between the 2 of us and came out to be $50 each with a generous tip. Definitely worth it.
