It tingles, it itches, it arouses, it puckers, it pinches, it lingers, it flows, it crumbles... I hate this place for one reason: I always walk in expecting to get myself one little present for that evening and I always leave with a salumi platter and cheese plate combination, and maybe a bottle of olive oil (and a bar of some ridiculous chocolate for good measure). You can get it all at the truffle, especially if you don't even ask for it. I like that both Hugh at St. Killian's and The Truffle now record our past purchases, but the Truffle's customer service is really unbeatable. A mild interest in Manchego, for example, turns into a fabulous sensory foray into La Mancha complemented by a full exploration of Spanish sheep's milk possibilities: a revelation. I shift right to pay my bill and all of the sudden sliced satiny pork fat is melting over my tongue. When I awake I'm standing outside that slim yellow awning wondering what happened and peering into my brown paper sac at the dozen white wrapped presents I will rediscover all over again this coming evening. Without Jim, my favorite smiling cheese monger, the Truffle is going to really have to step up its game, but I have faith that the Truffle will be inducing cheesegasms for many years to come. read more

I LOVE this place! There's nothing like really good cheese, a baguette and a bottle of wine to put me in my happy place. They are extremely knowledgeable and love to give samples. I've walked in saying, "I'm looking for something nutty and with truffles" and walked out with a truffled aged Gouda. And it was very gouda! Now they have a program where they can track what you buy so the next time you go in and say, "I'd like more of that white cheese I bought two weeks ago." they know exactly what you want. Not too long ago, the Truffle Cheese Shop helped my husband and I have the perfect Sunday afternoon. That's because our perfect Sunday afternoon involves delicious meats, cheeses, spreads, crackers and other goodies to gnaw and nibble on throughout the day. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful in recommending several cheeses and cured meats, letting us sample each one and giving us time to ooh and ahh and mull over the options. Everything in this shop is expertly curated--from the aforementioned meats and cheeses to French butters to artisan sodas to adorable, individually wrapped almond cookies. The first to review this place was right - you are almost knocked over by the power of smelly cheese when you walk in - in a good way! There is SO MUCH CHEESE. The owner was there and he gave us a fantastic tour of the place, not to mention samples galore. And dude, the guy knew his cheese. We walked out of there with some orgasmic gorgonzola and sharp cheddar. If you are a fan of cheese, you must visit this place. And invite me. And buy me stinky cheese. Over the last seven months, Cherry Creek's Truffle Cheese Shop has taken care of our fromage cravings. If we are planning a drive from Colo Spgs to anywhere near the southeast Denver area, we make it a point to pack a small cooler and set aside 20-30 minutes for tastings and purchasing about 1lb total of cheese. This past Saturday was no exception. Upon walking through the door (which is kept shut), the aroma of cheese is heavily suspended in the air. Special events and selected cheese are scribbled on a hanging chalkboard. Around the small shop are non-cheese items made locally and/or imported from Europe, including crackers, spreads, olive oils, carbonated drinks, etc. Up front, display cases show off the exotic-sounding creations, and knowledgeable employees slice off slivers of samples of whatever you want to try. Often one of the owners are there as well (and I think they recognize us now), and they are super helpful if they're not busy. Parking is on the street or in the 3-car lot on the side of the building. Prices are in line if you're used to paying for slightly-more expensive gourmet cheeses at Whole Foods or even King Soopers. Their selections vary daily, so on each visit we get to try new cheeses! Thankfully they so far have had on hand our favorite cow-cheese, Prima Donna. Our other new favorite is the Carboncino, but we've only been able to get that once, while we have been able to buy the Roomano Pradera twice in the past. From discussions with servers at our favorite restaurants, we've found that many of their cheeses are sourced from the Truffle Cheese Shop. These restaurants have included Fruition, 1515, Bistro Vendome, Rioja, Village Cork, Rootdown, and many others! Not only will restaurants buy a large amount of their cheese, but also on Saturday, we noticed a female customer had ordered one of Truffle's large cheese platters, and the owner helped carry it out to her car. We left the store this time with 3 great selections. And it was good to see a steady stream of customers going through that door. I wish we had this store in Colorado Springs, but I guess our market just isn't ready for something like this. read more

Um... amazing! The prices are not as bad as I thought they were going to be and the customer service is top notch. The shop is small, clean, organized, and inviting. The ladies that work there wanted to know what kind of cheeses I like and what I dislike. They based my test samples upon that knowledge and they were dead on. I left with 2 types of cheese (right at a pound), a loaf of bread, & mixed Italian olives (I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I bite into them) for $12. Wonderful place to grab some specialty items for a picnic. I chose a hard cheese made my Belgian monks (#treatyoself), a fresh baguette, and a prosciutto di parma that paired perfectly. The staff was very helpful, sampling me to my heart's delight. Check the prices before tasting if you're on a budget. Yes, the expensive stuff tastes better. What a great experience in this little shop on 6th. As soon as we walked in, we were immediately greeted by the owner. She was so incredibly helpful - literally walking us through all the cheese and meat offerings and allowing us to taste anything we even remotely thought was interesting. They have an incredible selection of meats, including top end copa and iberico. In addition, they have black truffles for a very reasonable price. More on the service. I mentioned a cheese and meat they did not have and she immediately jumped on the computer and said she would order it and call when it was in. This is what you expect at a little shop in a small town - loved it! As an aside, they have a nice selection of breads, spreads, and oils if you are looking for some unique gifts. Cheese AND truffles? It's a dream come true! Word of warning, don't be offended by the stench when you open the door. Keep in mind it is a cheese shop, so the smell is not for the faint of heart. It can be overwhelming with the wide variety of cheeses, but don't fret; the staff is exceptionally knowledgeable and patient in lending a helping hand. They ask what types of cheese you like and go from there. Tasting all the different cheeses is the best part! On the tail end of our Cupcake Tour we ended up right next to The Truffle Cheese Shop and we just couldn't help ourselves. The air is a bit thick with the aroma of cheese and truffle but it soon subsides as you start to peruse the assortment of breads, crackers, jams, olive oils, balsamic, cured meats, and of coarse cheese. Oh, the cheese they have hear is divine. They even offer samples of ones you think you may like which is customer service at it's best. And don't forget that when they get them they also have an assortment of truffles for those of you that enjoy that kind of thing, I know I do. The ladies working here are some of the most knowledgeable around and are eager to help and find you exactly what you're looking for. If you're looking for specialty cheeses or gourmet meats this is the stop for you and if they don't have it I'm sure they would order it for you or help you find it, that's how this local spot puts a smile on everyone's face! When I'm not stuffed with massive amount of cupcakes I will be back to take a longer look around and sample until I find the cheese that's perfect for me. If I could live here, I would. We were planning our Valentine's meal (NY strip steak from Oliver's) when we had a thought. Let's put blue cheese on that bad boy. We'd walked by here a week or two ago and we love cheese, so we went to see what was up. We were greeted to a pungent aroma (to put it delicately). We browsed a bit, but there's nowhere to hide from the employees in the small space, so they asked what we were looking for. At the cheese case, my brain froze from a surplus of options. Eventually we stammered that we were looking for a blue cheese to put on steak, and the wonderful, friendly woman walked over and recommended four types of blue cheese, from crumbly to creamy, from mild to strong. She also mentioned that they give samples. Yes, please. We had at least five different cheeses, all of which I would probably marry if America were just a bit more liberal about such things. She knew where the cheeses were sourced from, how they're made, what they're used for, what gives them color, and basically made me feel like the extent of my cheese knowledge is "Duh, cheez." The blue cheese we picked is maybe the best cheese I've ever had. It's creamy, strong, should melt just right on that steak. I wanted to go back 10 minutes after we left. This is an artisan cheese shop, so prices are high. $20-$40/lb high. So I probably won't be shopping here for my sandwich cheese. But for any special cheese occasions, which I will try to make sure there are more of in the future, I am 100%, absolutely, positively coming back. What a fantastic experience this was. read more

So I was in Denver visiting and one of my friends told me, "You HAVE to go to The Truffle Cheese Shop!" I love everything cheese and food (especially cheese) and this place caters to all my loves. The Cheesemongers are knowledgeable and express a great passion for cheeses and pairings. Roger and Louie introduced me to some great local Colorado cheeses that I had not yet tried and I took some along with me for my road trip. This is a great store offering excellent cheeses, charcuterie items, breads, oils, preserves, and the like. If you want to have a great cheese experience I highly suggest you go into this store and Treat Yo'self. It's also just a really cute store. read more

The first time I visited The Truffle many years ago, I had been sent there to find Rose Jelly, which was served with the cheese plate at Bistro Vendome. I walked into my very first specialty cheese shop and the aromas of ripe and ALIVE cheeses hit me like an angel with a baseball bat. Heavenly and strongly pungent. What a joy it was to discover the difference between cheese that has been refrigerated, chopped up and wrapped; versus cheese in which the cultures are still ALIVE. Is there someone here at yelp I can send a bill for all the new clothes I'm having to buy due to my ever expanding waistline? This place is like heaven to me. I went in for the first time a couple of weeks ago to grab some stuff to take to an informal get together. There were a few other customers in there but one of the ladies working there immediately made eye contact and told me she'd be with me soon. So I perused the shelves - fresh bread, a nice variety of oils and neat condiments - all smelling wonderful. When it was my turn at the counter I said that I wanted something to take to a small gathering and that I didn't know who all would be there so I was unsure of their tastes. She assured me they could put together something that would work for everyone and she began cutting samples of different cheeses for me to try. Everything was delicious - I wanted to just get one of everything but my wallet said no. I ended up with a selection of olives, 3 different cheeses, and a loaf of bread. If you're looking for a fantastic selection of cheeses and other specialty food items, like truffles themselves, or unique oils etc... this is the place to go! Like other yelpers the only problem is you go in for a cheese or two and it's almost impossible to not leave with more! The staff is very knowledgeable, and of course you can sample before investing in a rare cheese you haven't had. The only reason I gave 4 instead of five is I thought the owner could have been a bit more warm and friendly. I read some of the other reviews and they mentioned how great the service was (which it is not bad by any means!) He just seemed distracted and never really smiled and wasn't much for conversation...perhaps I just caught an off moment. Oh- and they were closed yesterday (on Mother's day) so I was saddened having to go else where for cheeses for a mom's day dinner :( Other than those small things this place is great! read more

Love the staff, love the cheese selection, love, love, love. I've been driving past this place everyday on my way home from work for a while now, and finally decided to venture in. So glad I did! Inviting, educated and nice cheese-mongers greet you and give you tastes of their awesome cheeses. I LOVE sheep milk cheeses, and they have a great selection of all different types of sheep milk cheeses, from all over (Spain, Germany, Italy, etc.) I got a Manchego and a Sheep Gouda. Both are excellent. She told me, once you taste these, the stuff you get at groceries store will never taste as good again. Boy was she right. My wife wanted to go to a store nearby to browse. I had no interest in that and my wife was kind enough to point this store out. "Oh look, a cheese shop!" Well, this was the highlight of our explorations yesterday. What a gem! As other reviewers have pointed out, you get a good whiff of the seriousness of this place the moment you walk in. It stinks. I mean that in a good way. You KNOW cheese happens here when you walk in. The cheese smell quickly disappears and the friendly staff helps out. I'm afraid I didn't catch the name of the lady who helped me, but she was infinitely patient with me and let me taste whatever I wanted, including the jambon iberico, which I think cost more than any food I have ever purchased. That's not a complaint. Each cheese and meat that was presented came with an explanation of ingredients, manufacturing methods, place of origin and flavor profile. These ladies know their stuff! Never once did I feel pressure to purchase anything I had tasted. I was just offered anything I wanted. When I decided to buy, the portions offered were reasonable. There was no pressure to buy 2 pounds of $33/lb cheese. The perfect amount was offered. I got out of there with three amazing items for a few pennies over $20, including a few slices of the $85/lb jambon iberico, which if I could afford, would purchase wholesale. The prices are high, but this (by their own admission) is a luxury store. You don't go to the Bentley dealership and complain that the cars are expensive. You either understand that this is luxury and you're going to pay a bit more or you walk out. I chose to pay and and don't regret it one bit. If you want $7/lb cheese, go grab a huge cube of bland cheddar at the King Soopers. If you want a unique, handcrafted cheese, this is your place. Actually, the prices weren't that out of line. I've purchased Gorgonzolas of sub-par quality at major supermarkets that cost more than the gorgonzolas here, which were amazing and creamy (as opposed to bitter and grainy). The meat prices were also well within reason. This is not a supermarket. It's a specialty luxury market that completely nails their niche. When I need something special, I'll be returning. In the meantime, I'm enjoying the jambon iberico (one of the most amazing things I've ever eaten) and Piacentinu cheese. You owe yourself at least once visit to The Truffle Cheese Shop. And did I mention the jambon iberico? It's truly one of life's most flavorful amazing luxuries. read more

It's nice to be able to walk into a store and have someone personally assist you with your selection whether you have something specific in mind or looking for that one cheese or meat that grabs your attention. I've learned so much about cheese and I always leave with something new, something I haven't tried before! In addition to the stellar food selection (which includes cornichons, olives, breads, crackers, jams, etc.) Karin and Rob have been incredibly generous! Last year they donated gift cards for our local public school fundraiser; we needed all the help we could get because our school serves students with financial means AND student whose families struggle financially (37% of our student body is eligible for free-and-reduced lunch). Thanks to Karen and Rob's generosity we were able to provide students-in-need with field trip scholarships! They also put together one of the most gorgeous cheese plates for my business! Once I caught by breath again after the ripe cheese and/or meat smell knocked the air out of me, I was able to take in all this tiny shop has to offer. We're talking baguettes, cheeses, meats, oils + vinegars, artisan salts, jams + jellies, crackers, truffles ($$$!) and so on and so forth. This is an excellent, high-quality store to pop into if you are looking for a unique hostess, housewarming or wedding gift and an even better store to pop into if you're looking to create a cheese and meat plate worthy of its own fan club. I swung by a few days before the Christmas holiday, so the store was absolutely bustling with customers, but no less than two people working greeted me and asked if I needed assistance.
