Her team of artists did on-site makeup and hair for my five bridesmaids, my mom and me in about two hours, which left us plenty of time to sleep in and laugh and chat with each other throughout the process. About 2-weeks before my wedding my mother convinced to hire a hair and make-up artist. My biggest reason for not getting one was solely based on price but my mother was so adamant about it and then offered to split it with me that I finally caved. Whenever I am looking for local vendors my go to spot is Craigslist and that is exactly where I found Margie. It happened kind of in a strange way, she had a post up promoting that she was available to do Halloween make-up and I clicked her website link and was impressed with her portfolio. Email communication was prompt and courteous. I will say that I was originally taken aback by her prices. I think that really has to do more with me than the actual prices due to the fact that hiring a make-up artist isn't exactly something that I do on the regular. Her asking price for having her do my hair & make-up the day of the wedding was about 30% higher than my budget. We negotiated a bit and came to a level ground where I feel that both of us were satisfied. My first IRL interaction with Margie was on 10-26-11 for my trial. It took about 2-hours and she was very patient with me. I met her at her apartment which is conveniently near mine. The only issue with the apartment was that the lighting isn't all that great. Outside of that small detail, I was extremely pleased. The day of my wedding (11.5.11) Margie did my mothers hair and and AMAZING updo for my Maid of Honor prior to working her magic on me. I have a short bob (about 3" past my ears) and we had decided on going with a vintage(ish) look - think Jean Harlow(esque) but without the crazy eyebrows. I can't honestly describe her work and do it justice. Because of this I've added photos (they are the ones with captions "11.5.11 Wedding..." After all was said and done I am seriously happy with the work that Margie performed. She has a great skill and I would definitely recommend her. read more

I was in NY from Chicago for a black-tie dinner and there was no way in hell I was going to get all dolled up from the neck down and do my own makeup, ha. I suck at makeup. I decided to have her do my hair as well and she was totally accomodating even though she had other appointments that afternoon. I went over to her apartment and her little salon was super cute. She was really friendly and professional and pretty quick, I think she did both in about an hour. My makeup was AMAZING, I got tons of compliments. She did a great smokey eye and added some fake lashes and I was stunned. The hair picture I showed her as a sample was for a little longer hair than I had but she tried anyways. I appreciated the attempt but since it was a little short, the whole thing fell flat within a couple hours unfortunately. It still looked okay but wasn't exactly what I had in mind, we could have tried something else that gave me the general look I was going for. Margie was my hair and makeup artist for my wedding and she did a phenomenal job. I had the trial session with her months before to try out different styles and looks which was well worth it. Tip to brides: fit the trial in no matter what since the last thing you want to experiment with on the day of your wedding is your whole look, you already have enough things to stress over. I just about never wear makeup and both me and my fiance wanted the makeup to look as natural as possible. Margie was very receptive to all my requests and questions, before, during, and after the session. It was great fun chatting with her, you feel like she's one of your good girlfriends. On my wedding day, she worked on me, my bridesmaids and the flower girl. Both my hair and makeup lasted from when she applied it in the morning, well into the night. She traveled up north from NYC to where our wedding was and was prompt and very professional throughout. Margie does the most amazing work. She and her staff did hair and makeup for the bride (my daughter), bridal party and mother of the bride (me) with the same level of creativity and enthusiasm. Margie knows what she is doing, but is also open to suggestions and listens to directions about what you do and do not want. I originally decided to wear my hair up, which was a first for me. Margie put it up during the trial and it looked lovely, but she could sense that I was not comfortable. Since I liked the hairdo, and it was exactly what I asked for, I really could not say what was wrong. While taking the bobby pins out, Margie let the back down first and asked what I thought about just having the front up and curling the back. She proceeded to curl the back and I was so much more comfortable with the result, and pretty surprised that Margie could recognize a hair style that was so much more ME after only one meeting. If you have an exact style in mind, Margie can do it, but don't worry if you are unsure because Margie will help you get to a style that is YOU. Margie and her staff also did make up for all of us and everyone was happy. I planned to find someone else to do my makeup, assuming that if Margie was good with the girls under 30, she could not be good for me. I was very wrong. During the trial Margie listened to the things that I did not like (dark under eyes...) and gave advice about moisturizing (and hair care). I am very glad that I listened to her suggestions, because everything was perfect on the day of the wedding. I have known Margie for years, but this was the first time she worked her makeup magic on me! I was the officiant last week for my dear friend's wedding. Margie did the bride's AND my makeup on the day of the ceremony. I have incredibly sensitive eyes that are prone to watering at the slightest touch. I've had other makeup artists get frustrated or flat-out rude about it-- it's not something I can help! I warned Margie and she promised to be gentle. I got ready with my mom and sister, and they really listened to what we wanted and created unique styles for each of us and the other bridesmaids. They came prepared with tons of different options, air-brush makeup (surprisingly natural looking!), and lashes (which actually looked real!). It's worth noting that I'm not a "hair and make-up" kinda gal. I'd never been professionally beautified before, so I was a little nervous going into it.
