Rustic cottage that has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. They have coffee, custard and some lunch options. We stopped in on a snowy wintery day for a drink and sweet treat. My husband got a malt , which was very good and an oatmeal raisin cookie that unfortunately was hard as a rock and crumbled when you tried to break it. Definitely stale and a BIG disappointment. My lavender vanilla latte was light on flavor but nice and hot on a cold day. The staff greeted us as we entered and seemed friendly. The dinning area floor was dirty and there was a giant puddle by the soda bar. There were 3-4 workers behind the counter and only two other patrons in the cafe surely one of them could have mopped up the puddle, wiped down the tables and swept the floor. read more

A wonderful spot for breakfast -- I'm rounding up a bit because the atmosphere and lakeside views put it over the top. A lot of the food options around the property are quite heavy, so it was nice to see smoothies and acai bowls here. I can confirm, their acai bowl is delicious! It's loaded with fresh blueberries, strawberries, honey, coconut shavings, and of course, acai. This was so good I had it twice, once for lunch, and breakfast the following day. They also have a nice sausage egg and cheese biscuit that I got for breakfast. While good, especially the sausage, it was cold in the middle on back to back days. If anyone who works there comes across this, I bet cranking up the knob or leaving in an extra 30 seconds will have it good to go. Also enjoyed their coffee, opting for a maple latte one morning and a nitro cold brew the next. They have ample seating throughout the space, but the outdoor seating was IDEAL during these sunny October mornings/middays. Loved overlooking the lake and kicking back on our vacation at Big Cedar. I was pretty unimpressed with a lot of the food options at the resort, but Truman and Worman House saved the day. Highly recommend going here, you won't find a better option around IMO. read more

I actually really liked this place more than I thought I would. We ate here twice. We stayed for three nights at the lodge and stopped in here our first full morning bc we wanted to explore the grounds and wanted to get a coffee and breakfast sandwich or something and walk around for a few hours. This time there were only about 2-3 people in front of me and I ordered an oat milk latte plain, the ham, egg and cheese bagel sandwich which came with a side of fresh fruit and combo'd it and got a coffee for my husband and their seasonal muffin which was like a banana Nutella muffin. It took about 10 minutes or so to get our food and the breakfast bagel sandwich was excellent - large and piping hot and fresh and a great portion size so my husband and I cut it in half and shared it. The muffin was served warm on a plate and when I cut into it the Nutella and chocolate was inside in the middle and was warm and gooey and heavenly. Seriously, the best muffin I've ever had in my life and ya girl has had some muffins (I love pastries). I liked it so much we tried to come back for coffee the next morning before heading to Silver Dollar City - nooooo, line stretched to the bathroom - probably 20+ people. No thanks. Our last day, when we checked out and had a 4 hour drive back to St. Louis, we stopped in for a "quick" coffee and snack and the line was only about 5 people deep so I figured it would be like the first day. No. I waited over a half an hour. I ordered a non-fat vanilla latte, another oat milk latte, a kid's smoothie, and another bagel sandwich. After 25+ minutes, I got the smoothie and it was a joke for $8 bc it was SO small. I asked where my sandwich was and the girl had no idea what I was talking about. I was pissed. So, I walked with her back to the line to ask where it was and fortunately, they were making it and I got it about 4 minutes later in a bag since my order was "to go". When I got to the car - no side of fruit. Overall, if you are staying here and not in a hurry - wonderful spot with good food. You have the option to wait. It's beautiful and looks like a French countryside cottage outside and inside and has a lovely patio area and nice back seating area with walls of windows and gorgeous views. This was my second time having breakfast here. I ordered the biscuits and gravy 3/5 with a cinnamon roll 4/5 on the side while the wife had a breakfast burrito 4/5 with a iced coffee 5/5. It was raining outside, not ideal parking situation but we made due. There cell service in side in nonexistent. The staff is friendly plenty of seating. The biscuits and gravy were missing something, not sure what but the cinnamon roll was really good as was the breakfast burrito. I am allergic to some fruit and they offered me an alternative which I was super appreciative of! This is probably the best place to get your food or snacks while at big cedar lodge. It's not as busy as devil's pool or buzzbar. They have plenty of options to include pastries, salads, paninis, milkshakes, smoothies and then some. I tried the veggie panini with the chips. The panini was a good size and cheesy. It had a good amount of veggies to include asparagus. I'm not sure if the chips are made in-house, but they sure tasted like they were. They were deliciously crispy and thicker than most potato chips. I also tried a strawberry milkshake. It had real strawberry pieces. The service was always fast. You order at the counter and then someone will bring your food to you. They have inside and outside seating. Beverages are self served. read more

While staying at Big Cedar, we usually stop in at Truman's at least once. The food is consistently good, though it can be a bit pricey to feed a family for breakfast. I recommend the ham and cheese quiche. It is excellent. My daughter enjoys the açaí berry smoothie. We have also tried several pastries and desserts, all of which have been good. read more

I adore this little coffee house! It's a beautiful drive down through big cedar to get to the little shop in the plaza of other stores and small historical buildings. The gardens in front of the coffee house are beautiful as well. I loved sitting on the back patio and enjoying my lunch. The staff was helpful, friendly, and accommodating. It is a little on the pricey side, but that was to be expected being in the lodge/resort area. You didn't have to be staying at the lodge to visit the cafe! Would recommend! read more

This place is super cute and looked liked they knew how to make a good hot chocolate with good chocolate. I ordered the hot chocolate and it was awful. I ended up drinking half because I spent $5 on it. When we asked how they made the hot chocolate they said all they had was chocolate syrup (and not the kind I'd spend $5 on) and they had run out of whatever chocolate they usually use. Ok, well if that was the case I felt they should have charged half the price if they knew they didn't have what they advertise on the menu. OR taken it off the menu. Just saying. Also, the macaroons were SO bad. Don't get them unless you want to chip a tooth. The coffee house must've changed from this past year. The coffee is still so good! We all love the caramel macchiato & lattes. The food is very over priced. Coffee ain't cheap, but when its the only place on the property open early and slinging coffee early, you head on over. Love the decor here and the people who work the counter, couldn't be nicer, especially in the early morning hours. The first day I had a pumpkin spiced latte, but the rest of my trip and 4 times after, I came back daily for an oat milk lavender latte and my oh my, it was delicious! Wow what rich cream chocolate custard! The chocolate custard here is so good on a hot day after a full day of outdoor activities. The custards come in a huge bowl to really give you plenty of bites to enjoy. Just need to go up to the walk up window and your bowl will be out to you in no time. Great place for breakfast - even if you're not staying at Big Cedar resort! Prices are a bit high - because it is a resort restaurant. Two hungry people will rarely get out for less than $25 unless you get a small pastry. But a coffee (free refills) and an entree will turn you about $13 before tax. However, the servings are very big and we always split something. Our favorites? Biscuits and gravy or vegetable Quiche. The quiche also comes with a small serving of fruit. Enjoy! read more

I am staying in Big Cedar lodge so me and friends went to get ice cream. We ordered simple, two cookies and cream malts, one scoop and a two scoop. It took us 15 minutes to get our order while they were fully staffed and there were only two other families in the whole restaurant. They got two orders wrong and replaced one but the other was just a vanilla malt. I sent it back and a few minutes later they came back with it. The Whipped cream and icecream melted, and oreos sprinkles on top, clearly the same shake and still not the correct order. customer service also wasnt the friendliest or most welcoming. for the price the experience should have been better. don't recommend read more

Too much banana in the smoothies which otherwise had a very mealy texture. I ordered a small icecream with toppings one day but they put the amount they must put in a large in my small sized cup- for it was pouring over the sides and was even getting the waitress all messy. Not only was it high maintenance to eat but it was literally just soft serve ... if you like messy frostys though, this is your place. The atmosphere is great and love the building. Nice patio area as well. That's where it stops though. Have visited two other times previously with good results. Not so on the last visit. Received poor service resulting in over 20 min wait (was not very busy, surprisingly given activities going on outside) for order only to find out two of the four items in the order were done wrong. Also appears menu has been cutback and for whatever reason the custard just seemed different than last time?? Not as good and almost overly sweet like they just added to much sugar. Went looking forward to a nice visit for a treat with family why we enjoyed Labor Day activities and left disappointed. We make one to two trips a year to the resort and can say will be awhile before we go back to Truman Cafe. Would recommend trying elsewhere first before going here to eat. read more
