Well, it's tough bc this was right by our hotel room and thus, easy to access, but the value for quality is lacking. One night - our baby needed to go down so we ordered pick-up to go and my husband walked over to get it. We got a chicken Cobb salad and a kids cheeseburger with fries and they were both ready before promised and delicious (my Cobb didn't have the blue cheese but did have the extra tomato I asked for so, 50/50). The next night, we came in specifically for the Devil's Pool Sundae which is a decadent brookie brownie cookie with Oreos and ice cream and whipped cream and fudge. I suspect this is supposed to be served warm and it wasn't even remotely warm - super disappointing. We didn't have time to complain bc after waiting 15 minutes with our baby we couldn't wait longer before going to put her to bed. It's easy and above the pool and I like the Buzzard Bar below plus the menu has some yummy items so it's a solid 3.5 stars bc lacking in attention to details and prices aren't cheap. read more

It was over 2 hours to wait upstairs so we went down stairs to eat which is the same menu. The kids Mac and cheese was bland but understandable so. The appetizer was spinach artichoke dip, it was pretty bland and had a different taste to it can't really describe it. The house salad was probably my favorite only wish goat cheese was all over salad and not in one spot. The dressing was delicious and fun to try. This was OK. It worked in a pinch, but not really my favorite. Foodwise, this was like a Chili's but way more expensive. Word from others is it can be quite fun downstairs here (where we dined) when the music gets going, but we were earlier just trying to grab a bite. The cocktail was pretty alright (a whiskey apple butter drink that was good for fall) but PRICEY. I ordered the Buzzard Bar Burger medium and it came out pretty pink inside, and I didn't want to chance getting sick on my trip and politely asked to throw it back on for a bit. Ultimately no big deal, everyone has a different definition. The only bummer was when I eventually got my new burger, it was downgraded to the standard one without pimento and aioli that I was intrigued to try. I didn't want to send it back a second time (lol) so it was fine. The other thing was the "seasoned fries" were seasoned with... air? Invisible, flavorless spices? It literally had nothing on it, and were pretty subpar for french fries. I had a great time with my wife here, so it was fine overall, but if this was located in a city with lots of options I wouldn't even notice it. The hostess at the front was the highlight of our dinner. She was truly very sweet and really trying hard to greet people with a smile. The rest of the experience was just...okay. The cheddar biscuits were fantastic. But the rest of the food was sadly very disappointing. I ordered a Caesar salad and it was so overdressed that there was a pool of salad dressing plus liquid (maybe water from them washing the lettuce) on the plate. I couldn't finish it. The fried ravioli were very basic. I got the Prime Rib and it was grilled which was odd. It was so tough and dry that I couldn't chew it. We didn't have a view of the lake from where we were seated. TLDR: Stunning lodge vibe, attentive service, killer omelet & eggs, but hash browns were overcooked and under-seasoned. Worth a visit. My wife and I were in Branson for an early week getaway chasing fall colors and ducked into Devil's Pool for breakfast. The place looks like a millionaire's hunting cabin, dark wood, stone hearth, killer views of the lake. Ambiance is a big win. Service was friendly and proactive: butter, jam, ketchup, and hot sauces hit the table before we even asked. I built my own omelet (bacon, ham, American, pepper jack) and it was textbook--meats folded into the eggs for even flavor, fluffy, perfectly cooked. Came with a big pile of hash browns that, sadly, missed the mark: overcooked to the point of hard crisp and lacking any real seasoning. A little salt and a lighter hand on the griddle would've made them sing. My wife's Missourian was mostly a win: eggs over-easy nailed, bacon crisp, sausage bold. Her hash browns suffered the same fate, overly crunchy bland and slightly burnt on the edges. The toasted English muffin was a nice touch. Devil's Pool has the bones of a five-star breakfast spot, gorgeous setting, thoughtful service, strong mains. If they dial in the hash browns, it's a slam dunk. As is, it's very good but not quite flawless. Still recommend, just temper expectations on the potatoes. read more

Amazing view! The food is good and the scenic view is stunning. The service on this night was very slow, albeit friendly. I couldn't believe it took an hour to bring my dinner salad. I was told there was a large group, however, the restaurant wasn't full. It felt like an excuse. The server was very nice and offered to prepare a hit tea to go. I accepted not realizing that she was going to charge me as I thought it was a gesture of good will for the unbearable wait. The manager was not friendly to begin with, the server not attentive and that was before the food. They got the salmon right but the risotto was clumpy. My 10 oz prime rib was another story. I ordered it med rare, but it came out very rare, no seasoning, tough as heck and obviously nothing PRIME about this cut of meat. Oh and the pre-meal biscuits were undercooked and doughy. Got the Wagyu meatloaf which oddly enough had very little flavor. The mashed potato's that it came with were very good. Service was good and attentive. On Monday, June 30, our two children and their families hosted a dinner for my wife and I celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. They chose the Devil's Pool Restaurant as the location. We had an awful dining experience. After being seated and our orders taken, we waited for over an hour for the food to be delivered. It was delivered in two phases resulting in half of the table watching the other half eat. And, when delivered, the food was cold and/or over cooked. Now this night (6/11) there was a massive party that seated in the main dining area (not in their own private room) I ordered Bourbon-Bacon Shrimp Scampi to share 10/10 SMOKED BABY BACK RIBS 5/10 Crispy Fried Catfish 6/10 Black Truffle and Ricotta Ravioli 10/10 Now I will say that the restaurant was recommended to us for a dish that we did not order. (Chicken Fried Steak) The Scampi was amazing and the bread that comes with it, omg. The Ribs were not for me, cornbread was great as were the fries. The catfish that replaced my ribs also not for me. The Ravioli was amazing per my wife. Now the dinner party that I spoke of earlier was got louder and louder as the drinks came and as they continued to flow then came The F - Bombs and the other guests of the restaurants where in utter disbelief a were we and the wait staff. The restaurant did their best to contain the unruly party and address the other customers but alas it was a bitter first experience. Now onto the morning of 6/12 The order was Southwest Omelet 5/10 Buttermilk Pancakes Half stack 8/10 Vegetarian Burrito 8/10 The staff again was great, nice, and quiet morning atmosphere was as it should have been. Had a great evening at the restaurant here at big Cedar Lodge. Started with a corn bread appetizer that was over the top. It was drizzled in honey and small chunks of bacon. Very large appetizer that was actually too much for two people. Seared Atlantic salmon with risotto was incredible. Service was good although they were not really practicing social distancing. It looks like it was at full capacity. They did take temperatures before you came in. My wife had the chicken fried steak which was also very large portion and very good. On vacation before deployment and it's my birthday. Stopped in here to eat with the family. First off, the atmosphere is great. Super nice place inside and out. I ordered the prime rib medium rare. My wife got the chili. My daughter ordered the cheese quesadilla. My son got the catfish plate. My prime rib was pretty darned good. But I felt like the true star of the show was the mashed potatoes. They were so good. I tried my son's catfish and we both believe it's the best catfish ever in the history of fried catfish. My wife and my daughter both enjoyed theirs too. Since it was my birthday we decided to get a dessert. I ordered us the sundae. It was fantastic. My daughter and I ate every last bite of it. So sweet and rich. I highly recommend it. So, if you're in this area, there's not a ton of food options. Unless, of course you drive north into Branson. But if you're near here and want a good meal I can't recommend them enough. We stayed at Big Cedar, and took a shuttle here for dinner one night. Pretty cool place; it felt like a cafeteria more than a restaurant. Staff was nice, and we were seated quickly. We got the goat cheese fondue as an appetizer "amazing!" We then chose to split the ribs because we always over order. Good thing we did the portions are very generous. But the ribs weren't that great; tender and smothered in sauce. They tasted as though they were cooked in an oven and not on a smoker. Now the bad news. We went back again for just drinks at the bar, and the entire place was packed!! Apparently the let people not staying at the resort use it's amenities?!!! This doesn't seem fair if you ask me. People are paying lots of money to stay here, and they are having to wait for guests who aren't! What's the point of having such high prices if you have to share it with people who aren't?!!! read more

My last review was from 4 years ago and I believe they've gotten better and are much more consistent. Because it is close for us, we eat there almost every month. Lately, we've noticed two things: 1. They have an excellent wait staff and 2. The food has really risen in quality. The prime rib, which was marginal in the past has been excellent the past 2 visits. I wish they had baked potatoes instead of whipped (think mashed but much lighter and airier) and fries but that is a minor issue considering how good the beef has been recently. We're here because of a friend's recommendation, and my husband is a big fan of prime ribs; and they didn't disappoint. It's a Thursday evening around 6:15 early April and they were still pretty busy, most of the big tables were full. We had a reservation and waited about 10 minutes for our table to be ready, but we got a window table, so no complaints. The restaurant is very rustic, spacious and the decor fits nicely with the area: fishing and hunting We had the cornbread, apple cranberry walnut salad, prime ribs and rainbow trout, everything was delicious especially the prime rib, melted in your mouth, top notch, cornbread was one of the best we've had, the trout was very well seasoned and cooked nicely. The only negatives we had was the menu said baby carrot but they came with big chunks of regular carrot, also the rice that came with the fish was bland and dry. Those were just very minor flaws that didn't take away from a very satisfying meal. read more

Five star experience today. We have had both breakfast and dinner at Devil's Pool, and had good meals and service each time. This go-round dinner was excellent with the trout and prime rib ordered. Donel our server was very patient with my wife and her dietary needs. The prime rib was tender and juicy and the whipped potatoes were plentiful. Both dinners had mixed vegetables of green beans and carrots. Bread service is also included with an assortment of flatheads and cheddar biscuits with butter. We took a family trip to Branson this January, and I will say I don't recommend Branson in January. There are so many places that are closed for the month, I'm guessing because it's usually there slowest time of year. Anyway, we decided to check out Big Cedar Lodge while we were there for the views and a brunch. Devil's Pool breakfast was fantastic and I recommend it to everyone that goes down this way! Usually, from what I've heard, they have a breakfast buffet, but with COVID-19 they took that away for now. Everything we ordered was great and my two sons felt the same way! Always a win. Afterwards, we took a hike around the area and viewed some waterfalls around the river, then headed toward the exit of Top of the Rock where there are some amazing views of the area! Made for a great photo shoot to end the trip. Next time we will definitely spend some more time at Top of the Rock and Big Cedar Lodge as it seems to be the best spot in the area. read more
