He was late for the estimate, and rescheduled our first appointment very last minute, which was very inconvenient. The final straw was that he did not show up to our rescheduled time and I have not been able to reach him since discussing the payment method earlier that same morning. Don't let the address fool you! I live in Kuliouou and Haven made his way to my side of the island for a repair on Saturday. Our dryer knob popped off, and we needed it replaced so I tried making a repair appointment with a couple of service companies. Both of those companies quoted me a 8-10 day wait for scheduling, and I just couldn't wait that long. I tried the yelp "request a quote" and sent it off, fingers crossed. Haven was the first to respond, I gave him the model number and some pics to explain the problem and he said he check if the part needed was in stock. He promptly called me back, and gave me the info for the appliance parts company, so I could pay for the part that he could pick up for repair the following day. One day turnaround! That was such a relief, and he texted me confirmation for the appointment. I wasn't home for the repair appointment, but family members who interacted with him said he was professional and the repair was fast. I'd recommend him for your home repairs. read more

Believe all the bad reviews! I was stupid and gave this cheating liar a chance and I got screwed. I do not think Haven is licensed in anyway. I have too many issues with him to get into details but the worse is he started a fix on my shower asked for more money 'for parts' then never ever came back. I was told before that I needed a water shutdown in my unit to get this job done but Haven insisted that wasn't necessary. OF COURSE he popped the valve and water came gushing out for 20 minutes and all i could envision were the lawsuits for water damage from the units below me. He billed me 4 different amounts after we agreed on a price and even still kept billing me after I paid for the parts he supposedly was going to get. He even billed me a week after he no showed to finished the job and this was AFTER I paid him in full??? His calls come under 'Joseph Amper' and he sends texts via various numbers and nothing is consistent. I got a referral to finish the shower repair (yes i had to get. a water shutdown) and this person said Haven improperly stripped off the valve screwing it up. This could explain why Haven never came back, he F'd it up and knew he couldn't fix it but still asked for $$$. Believe all the Bad reviews. Please don't make the same mistake I did. read more

I gave one star for same day arrival. Even though the repairman, Haven, was 20 mins late. I was just happy to see him. He quote me one price over the phone and tripled it when he arrived. It was ok still. The washer door locked and unable to unlock even after powering off. Haven was able to open the door and the power turned on. (Thus the second star.) I even exclaimed this to him. Then he fiddled more with it until he could not get the power back on. He told me that the power never came on. But not only did I see the power light come on but I heard the clicking indicating it was getting power. He offered to get me pricing on a motherboard and I said no. I paid him and he did apologize for it not working properly. He left the door open for me. So I went to the hardware store, bought a wrench, and looked on YouTube to solve my problem. I am now washing my comforter with no problem. I am so proud of myself! But glory belongs to God because I would have been devastated if what he told me was true. Point: Avoid getting services from this company. And if the price quoted over the phone is too good to be true, it usually is. Figure I use this service because it was supposed to be located in the address as stated. Instead it was an address for the Waialua Shopping Center. At first, I probably called at least four times thinking he (Haven Emper) was perhaps on a service call. Eventually he came to my house and replaced the part that was causing the problem with my refrigerator and paid him $249.60 PLUS $75.00 for the parts. A couple days passed and the same problem surfaced. I tried to get in contact with Haven and he doesn't answer his phone, doesn't return my calls after leaving messages, doesn't respond to emails, he doesn't even respond to FaceTime. I even went to the address listed and a sign of :TrueValue Services couldn't be found. I then checked if he has a General Excise Tax License and he is not even listed using his name or even the name of his service. You would figure that even under the Handyman's Law in the state of Hawaii you would have a G.E.T. Can you imagine, if you're a homeowner hiring a business that has no license to do business in Hawaii and that person get injured for some reason---guess who is responsible. Terrible service. Haven Amper, President & Owner of TruValues Services, responded to my call to fix my Subzero ice maker in March of this year. He claimed he was certified by Subzero and I believed him; instead he failed to fix the icemaker, broke my freezer and charged me $350 for the unsatisfactory service! I had to hire another technician to get my freezer to work. Amper promised to refund my payment in March but said he was having problems with Bank of Hawaii and needed two weeks to get his account cleared and a card from Bank of America. When he didn't send the refund check I filed with the BBB but he told them he would send a refund on April 27. I'm still waiting for a check! I strongly recommend not doing business with Amper and Truvalues Services. This owner/ company doesn't stand on its performance and doesn't make good on promises to correct for unsatisfactory performance. read more

Haven was awesome! Called him around 4pm & he answered which is rare for services like this. Said he would be there in an hour and pretty much was! Converted my new range/oven from natural gas to propane, which is not an easy task. I had called a place recommended by Sears earlier in the day with a quote of $190 and they couldn't come out for 5 days. Haven is a true savant when it comes to diagnosing and fixing all things home appliance. Can you believe he was available on a moment's notice on a Saturday? He fixed our chronically underperforming dryer and serviced our washer in a short (half hour) visit. He is a courteous, effective communicator. He even kept us apprised of his ETA by e-mail, text and phone. We will call on Haven again and again. Hopefully not too often, though! After all, he addresses problem appliances! read more

I hate to write this update, but our subsequent experiences with Haven were terrible. Our GE refrigerator stopped cooling, so we called Haven. He came to our house and claimed to fix the problem, but then the refrigerator stopped working entirely. Next he told us we needed a new mother board, which would cost $240 plus labor. Our first serious mistakes were not asking to see the "new" mother board and not asking to have the "old" mother board. As far as we can tell, he never replaced any parts. The refrigerator was a bit cooler, but the freezer still wasn't freezing. Next he told us we needed a new thermostat and new seals, running $180, which he wanted in advance. I paid him the $180 and he said he would be over that Thursday evening. Late Thursday afternoon he contacted me and said he couldn't make it until Sunday. Mind you, we had been without a refrigerator for a week at this point! He arrived 5 hours late on Sunday and supposedly replaced our thermostat. When I asked him about the seals we paid for, he said he didn't have them and he would return on Wednesday. Not surprisingly, our refrigerator still didn't work. At this point, we were convinced that he was intentionally ripping us off, and we never wanted him back again, despite the $700 we had already invested in these failed repairs. Hired him to put up 8 security cameras, he lost a cable and only ended up putting up 7. 1st day he showed up 30 minutes late and left after 2 hours, the 2nd day he did the same he did not clean up after himself either day---on the third and final day of what should have been--- A 1 DAY JOB--- he drilled a hole in the wrong place, scratch my walls putting ladder up--even I knew not to do such thing-- by this time I decided to let him go so I told him here is your money and even gave him a gift I had promised on the first day, it was a motivator. I Told him go I'll finish up myself--to include the clean up. As I was cleaning I noticed that he connected 2 wires together and he had told me that 1 wire was missing----so I told him I found the ""extra"" cable and can he come back and put the final wire on the outside where he can't hurt nothing. Only reason I called was because I did not have the tools---long story short he did not show up after promising to, so now we get to meet in court---the take from this is do not hire him and if you do-- do not pay him until job is complete and stay near him as he is very sloppy and careless. read more

It gives me no pleasure to leave such a staggeringly bad review, but Haven's ineptitude and shoddy business practices have left me no other recourse. I had a broken fridge, so I turned to yelp. Regrettably, I skimmed over the few 1-star reviews and took comfort in the suspiciously high amount of 4+ star reviews. I figured the fix would be a minor one, and Haven was very prompt and--at first--responsive. Dude shows up last Monday (4/9/18), gives me an estimate of $150 for repair. He clears the ice away from my freezer and installs a new defroster. Then he asks for cash per payment. I offer check, credit card, vinmo/paypal, but no... CASH. He fed me some bull about a processing delay in his business account with Bank of America (though miraculously in PT. 2 of this saga Haven will have access to Cash.App by Square). So, Haven ends up following me in his white escalate to an ATM 5 mins away where I withdraw $150, pay him, offer thanks, and part ways. Next day, fridge still won't cool. Give it another day, Haven tells me via text. Next next day, fridge STILL won't cool. I text him. He says the freezer fan is bust, as cold air can't make its way from freezer to fridge. Seems logical. I ask why didn't he diagnose that last time... Crickets. He tells me he'll replace the fan free of labor at $156 for the part. Seems chill. I pay him via Cash.App on Wed., 4/11 (Where was that form of payment two days before?) and Haven installs it the next day. So now I'm in at $306 total, but hey it beats buying a new fridge. I go off-island for the weekend, get back Sunday, and lo n' behold, my fridge STILL won't cool. This time Haven tells me it's the "smartboard" inside the fridge. He estimates a replacement at $2-300!!!! Had I even the faintest idea that this fridge repair could exceed $150 (let alone $5-600!!!) I would've declined service on day one. But I'm already in at $306. I call him out on this, cordially--suggest at this point we split the difference: Haven buys back the fan and defroster at $156 but keeps the initial $150 (as a measure of my goodwill). Dude refuses... insists that I buy a refurbed smartboad at $165. I tell him NO MORE $ and remind him that the initial est. was $150 for a fixed fridge. Radio silence from then on. I don't know if Haven Amper is, by nature, a hustler--I mean, I'm from Philly so I usually have a sense for these things--but I will say that he is ridiculously incompetent. I had blackout curtains from Amazon to be installed. I initially tried to set up with Haven through Amazon. But Amazon's system wasn't working that day. I sent him a message through Yelp. He promptly returned my message and gave a quote for the work. He was also able to provide the service the next day on a Saturday. I'm so happy that I don't have to take time off from work to get curtains installed. Haven came the next day and performed the job wonderfully... at a very reasonable price. I called Haven to pick-up, deliver and install a refrigerator in my rental unit. Within 45 minutes of my call, Haven picked up the refrigerator and was on his way. When we got to my rental, it was dark so Haven was going to come the next day to finish the install. Around 545pm, I get a text from my tenant saying Haven never showed. I call but no answer. I text him and then he responds immediately saying he had emergency calls due to a power outage. He had an appointment to complete my job first! I asked him to give me a call and again, he did not. He'd rather text instead. To make a long story short, I told him he didn't need to finish the job and that he should refund a partial of the full payment I gave him already. Never got a response. Haven was very professional in his response to our work request and communication thereafter. He ran a little late on the agreed time but did call to let us know his ETA. Haven went to work as soon as he arrived and did a great job with the loose sink faucets, bath tub fixture and curtain rods. He worked fast and and was very pleasant. Would use Haven again and would recommend his service to friends. Read other bad review but it doesn't seem like the same person. read more

DO NOT WORK W THIS COMPANY. Despite what Haven may tell you, he is not licensed with the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. He took my deposit, destroyed a significant portion of my home, and has since failed to even show up for any of his scheduled appointments. I gave him very specific instructions on what I wanted completed, which included some tile work, installation of a wine chiller and to mount a couple TVs. We signed a contract and he cashed my deposit over 2 weeks ago. He told me that this would be a one day job, but he has yet to lay more than 10, 3"x5" tiles, and has completely destroyed my cabinets beyond repair. Correcting the damage that he has caused will cost my 3 times what I was going to pay him. He will not return my emails, phone calls or texts. I have since filed a complaint/grievance with the Hawaii Regulated Industries Complaints Office. They have confirmed that he is not licensed (which is a legal violation) and that they will be assessing fines to him and his company. I have never dealt with such inconsistent, deceptive and sloppy work. The one time he did respond to me, was to ask if there were cameras in my building. He's obviously concerned about being identified. My building has confirmed the make and model of his vehicle and that they have video footage of him entering the property. He will likely be arrested for trespassing if he shows up here without permission. Save yourself the time and money. Do not do business with this man. read more
