I have lived in Saint Petersburg for a few years now. I have passed by Try Wine and have always wanted to check it out. I finally made it in one day was pleasantly surprised. I love the setup inside. The location is not very visible off the street with construction going. Please, don't let that stop you from checking this spot out. The unique experience they offer which allows guests the ability to purchase portion pours on a wide selection of wine varietals. You load money on a card and walk up to the wine you'd like to enjoy, select your portion, and the pour begins. It was not busy when I was there so it felt very intimate. Being new to St. Petersburg, I took the free trolly tour. This place was one of the featured stops, so I got off the trolley and walked in. I was quickly seated. Menus and processes were explained. Try Wine has a variety of tasting stations on the entry-level and a sub-level that comprises more tasting stations, rows of bottles for sale, and a small, private area. We decided to do the option with the wine cards for my wife, and I that Try Wine put $100 to use at any of the tasting stations to sample from different bottles in 1-ounce, 3-ounce, or 6-ounce levels. We spent most of the time at tasting stations 3, 4, and 5, which had red wines from across the globe. Most of the wines were solid that we tried, and our server was nice and made sure we had what we needed. We have been coming here since before they moved and we always have a great time. The last time was during covid when we were opening up as long as you were masked. Stopping in tonight to find a nice bottle to take home. So they seem to have a much bigger menu for food. Pizzas and fondues. Intimate seating situation as well so this is a nice place for a quiet date. Very knowledgeable staff on top of everything. My friends and I were a party of 4 and stopped by a little after 9pm on a Saturday night. We were seated immediately and not rushed during our tasting. After visiting a museum on a rainy day, I was feelin classy and decided to check this place out. Try Wine ended up exceeding my expectations! The atmosphere of this place is super interesting. It feels like you are in a swanky private collection, but not of a snobby wine person just one that can appreciate all types. I found that the information displayed on the 'taps' was super helpful in choosing wines I was unfamiliar with and allowed me to push my pallet boundaries (I added a pic of my fav of the new ones I tried on 3/25/22). The food we got was tasteful. The notable item for me was the almonds!! I feel like I could've eaten a popcorn bowl full of them. The charcuterie list was extensive and they provide a checklist for us to order. My fav item was the pastrami-style smoked salmon. The service was also above average here. All were super helpful and available. They definitely find people that understand wine or at least appreciate it. Try wine is a great place to go for social hour with friends. Me and my girlfriends decided to come here one evening and try out their amazing wine selection. I want to start by saying the atmosphere felt like I was in a rustic wine cellar somewhere in Italy. The decor was traditional with a modern twist. So it's the place to be for all legal drinking ages. Their wine selection had a wonderful range and I even found a new favorite. Don't even get me started on the fresh food they prepared. Me and a friend came on a Wednesday around 5pm and we were the only ones there until about 6pm. Basically, you give them a credit card to hold and they give you a key card you use to put whatever wine you want. They have 1 oz, half glass, and full glass options. It's awesome because they all range from 70 cents for 1 oz to $188 for one glass! We ordered the chef classic cheese board ($26) and it was delicious. It was more than enough for 2 people. I love this concept! To me, it's an event rather than just grabbing another drink with friends. I loved being able to walk around, read about the wines and then choose the size pour I preferred--all on my own time. While not for everyone, wine lovers will find a home here! Although unassuming from the street, it's quite swanky inside. There's a long table for parties and little nooks and crannies to tuck away in if you're wanting something more intimate. They function as a wine bar, but also have extensive retail space. Every price range will find something they like; I'm talking $7 a glass to...I don't know, $90?! I tried some very interesting wines and got a nice buzz for about $20. It's important to note that the clientele was definitely upscale, but our group of t-shirted twenty-somethings still felt comfortable! To get started, you'll go to the counter and swap your credit card for a Try Wine card. There's no extra fees and this is likely just to help you keep track of what you're spending. They do have gourmet snacks which were a little rich for our blood, but the wine was great! They were also not very busy. With wine gaining so much popularity, I can only guess that it's a lack of advertising or perhaps they need to come up with some creative pull to bring people in. I visited Try Wine twice within a week. The first time was a weekend night and had 5-star service and experience. The server brought us the 1.5 ounce pours when I created my own flight, as well as the self-curated charcuterie boards. He was very friendly and accommodating. So I returned one afternoon a week later and ordered the 1.5 ounce pours again. But this time a different server told me I would need to serve myself by using a card to insert into the wine machines. I asked why this time was different and she didn't know. Ultimately she brought the initial wine to me but then gave me the card to serve myself if I wanted any more. We didn't see her again after that. Two other servers began waiting on us. Next I decided to order one cheese with some crackers to complement the wine. I have a gluten allergy so I checked the box for "substitute bread with gluten free crackers" just like I did on my first visit. When the bill came I was charged $2.99 for the 8 crackers. I wasn't charged on my first visit so I inquired. Apparently it says on the menu somewhere that you have to order two charcuterie items in order to receive the crackers for free. So I could have had two cheeses and crackers for the same price as what I paid for one cheese and crackers. If only I had read the fine print. Guess they got me! Went to Try wine with family for a fun adventure. While the selection of wine is robust, the prices are a bit steep. Per ounce for tasting average about 1.99 and a full glass is only 5ounces. In many instances you'd be better off tasting it 5 times to save money. We ordered a charcuterie board that came out last for our table - hard to pair wine when it arrived a hour plus after tasting. We built our own board - the prices are expensive but figured we would get our full. They put a few pieces of each cheese and the olives were few too. It was over 40 bucks for not much at all!! The pizzas are small for 25 bucks - more like flat bread. If you want to taste some wine - great place. But don't eat here. Not worth the money. read more

Very cool little spot hear Al Lang stadium. Stopped in for a bite before the game. Not a lit if food options but very interesting concept. We got white wine flights with charcuterie and flatbread pizza. Tiramisu for dessert. We spent 108 plus $25 tip so not cheap but pretty cool experience. The wines are vast and so many options. The food options should be expanded imo. Would be nice to offer sliders or something a little more substantial. Very disappointed - live nearby & used to enjoy this place. Last night we went for a glass of wine before our reservations for elsewhere later on. We were greeted by a young man who directed us to a table marked "reserved" and offered us menus. We told him we simply wanted a glass of wine - we were still directed to the "reserved" table. I remarked that things had changed - we had hoped to purchase the auto card and help ourselves to wine. A young lady stepped in - said "of course" and we went to the register, gave her our credit card & she provided cards needed to serve ourselves wine- she assured me twice that she would return my credit card shortly. She did not. The machine I used was obviously not working correctly - was sputtering air mixed with wine that splattered all over inside my glass - no matter - we proceeded to sit at the table we had been directed to, still dubious of the "reserved" sign. The original young man came over & advised us we could not sit there unless we were ordering food - He had not mentioned that before. If we wanted to only drink wine, we would need to go down to a small area near the register- and we would NOT be allowed to sit down, only stand at a high table. At that time I said that I would leave, and would request a refund. I went to the register, and was by met by another man- a manager?- who began to explain to me "how this all works- we have 3 areas....' I requested a refund and my CC returned to me. He resisted and advised me that he would return my CC IF I returned to the "reserved" table I had been forced to leave AND read a menu. I told him if I were billed, I would dispute it with my bank. Evidently, they have a new chef & they are going crazy trying to get people to order food. I had already told them that we had reservations elsewhere. We did return to the table - I really wanted my CC back. In short order, I was presented with a bill and my CC. I took my CC and left. I did not pay a bill - we had drank no more than 2 sips of wine. I live in the neighborhood and had walked there in 95 degree heat. I do not intend to patronize ANY business that refuses to allow me a seat to enjoy a glass of wine. I also will not patronize a business that holds me hostage by refusing to return my CC until I perform some activity they mandate. Never again - I have watched this place since they have opened. My husband and I were walking back to our car after a leisure afternoon of lunch and shopping in downtown St. Pete and I spotted a sign that said "TRY WINE, Retail Tasting Lab". Intrigued, I grabbed my husband's arm and told him "change of plans, we are trying wine!". Try Wine is a wine bar/tasting room that offers wine by the taste, half glass, or full glass. There are 88 different bottles of wine "on tap", located along the walls in wine dispensers. All of the wines are self-serve. Visit the cashier for a $50 prepaid dispenser card (if you don't use the entire balance you'll only be charged for the amount you spend). To try the wines: 1. Place your card in the dispenser 2. Place your wine glass under the wine you'd like to try 3. Hold down button of the size of taste or glass you would prefer to try. WARNING: I cannot stress step #2 enough!!! After several glasses you will forget step #2. Luckily, you have to hold down the button so I managed to not pour my wine on the floor. Stephen was so friendly and helpful. Since the wine bar wasn't busy we got the chance to discuss wines with him and he pointed out the bottles that he thought we would enjoy the most. He quickly found out that we prefer old world Cabernets with lots of tanins so he was able to select some really incredible wines for us to try. Try Wine also offers light snacks for purchase, including cheese and charcuterie platters, artisan popcorn and chocolates. We ordered the cheese and charcuterie platter with the Alouette Brie, Don Juan Spanish Manchego, and a smoked gouda. The platter also came with a selection of prosciutto, pepperoni, bread, crackers, dried fruits, chocolate, candied nuts, and dipping sauces. My husband and I ended up purchasing three bottles to take home with us. This is definitely one of the best wine tasting experiences I ever had! This is located in downtown Saint Pete, FL across the street from the Ceviche restaurant off of Central Avenue and 1st St. South. It's situated in a mixed-use high-rise building on the first level. The space is very beautifully decorated. They have plenty of seating and wine dispensing machines on the ground level floor. On a split level below are the point of sale register/information counter, more wine to sample, seating, and merchandise. After providing the staff your credit card to hold during your time there, they hand you a card which you used to insert in the dispensing machine. This card tallies up your total at the end of your time here once you're ready to pay. The dispensing machine has a description of the wine and three different ounces levels for your selection. You get to choose the amount of your pour (a taste, half glass, or full glass). The amount of your pour is priced accordingly and also based on the value of the bottle.
