I have over thirteen years experience, and wasn't even considered. I called several times, and was told they couldn't help me, because they were short staffed. Doesn't make sense, when I was qualified, and looking for a job. I spoke with Janelle, the manager, who is black. My conclusion was that she is racist and lacks intelligence. This business needs to hire a professional manager.

Overall, was a nice place and I'll probably visit again if in the area. The arcade/preview room is pretty decently priced at $5. The staff was very professional but serious. It was a challenge trying to get her to stop watching me like if I was a thief while I was shopping. It's very possible that she was just staying vigilant cuz she didn't have anything else to do since there were no other customers in the store.

Many people complain…read morethis shop sees people by appointment; I don't think this is a fair or reasonable thing to complain about. Let's say you wandered into a doctor's office, they don't take walk-ins either, but they will give you information if that's what you need. So. . . I came in to see how expensive mastectomy bras are and the owner asked me if I would be paying out of pocket or through my insurance company. Gosh, I did not know insurance companies pay for that kind of stuff because in the 8 years since my diagnosis no one from my health care team ever expressed an interest in helping me obtain post mastectomy gear. Based on her suggestion I did ask, and although neither of my doctors (male) had any idea what I was talking about, there was a breast care coordinator who worked for the insurance company, who contacted me and one week later I had an appointment at Althea's to get what I needed. To be properly fitted takes 45 minutes to an hour - and this is why you need an appointment. I recommend talking to your insurance company first, before making an appointment, since if they say "no" you're no worse off than before, and if they say "yes" you could save yourself hundreds of dollars. For this information alone I would have rated this place a 5. She had more information for me than anyone in any of my health care teams in the last 8 years had. (I had a different team when I lived in Kern county, plus a different insurance coverage at another time.) No one from any of these three teams ever mentioned specialty bras or prosthetic breast forms. However, I also felt the care I received during my appointment was worthy of a good rating. There was no rush and I got to try on different styles, colors, my needs were considered. It was all very thorough. If you or anyone you know is dealing with breast cancer, this is a great place to find a bra.

Their bras are pretty, and moderately priced for what you are getting, but they don't seem to have much variety when it comes to fitting different types of busts. They use just the standard 2 measurements method and don't really ask any questions about the arrangement of the tissue. The store is attractive though, and if you know your proper size and have a good idea of your shape and what types of bras will work, you might find something great for you.

I was surprised to see a Glamour House ad in Montecito Journal saying they carried Wacoal bras which is a great brand for me. So I gave it a go. Much to my delight I found Ann and her staff extremely knowledgeable about fitting a full figured women! Trust me, there are very few people who know how to FIT A BRA CORRECTLY. Turns out Ann had multiple styles that not only fit perfectly, but the styles were lovely. Honestly, I can hardly tell I have a bra on - no pressure on my shoulders and nothing digging in to my sides. Eureka! I have struck gold!
