Finally visited this place once the hype has died down. I have walked pass Tsujiri many many times before but never went in because I have been hearing mixed reviews about this place and it's a little pricy. Environment: The store is surprisingly very small, only 3 two persons tables and a tatami seaf for four. No wonder the lineup was super long when it first opened. You order right at the counter like a fast food joint and then they will call your number once your order is ready. No table service and therefore, no need for tipping. Food: Me and my friend each ordered a mixed softserve ice cream cup, hers was chiffon cake and mine was the one with the mochi balls. We tried each others food and I think I prefer the chiffon cake more, not for the cake itself, but the ice cream somehow tasted better. Noneoftheless, the matcha was very average, by that I mean it tasted like those matche ice cream that you can buy at the Asian grocery store, except in softserve form. In that sense, I don't feel it is worth the added price and deserves a second visit, even though the ice cream was good and the cups look cute in picture. Just my personal opinion, because I am a huge matcha fan and this matcha ice cream just doesn't have the great matcha aroma that I like. read more

Great place for all green tea matcha lovers! Lots of varieties of ice creams, sundaes, slushes, and etc. There's a line to order and a line to wait for items. Small space inside, 3 small bar tables and 1 tatami style sitting area. I ordered the plain matcha soft serve ice cream in a cup and that set me back $4.50 CAN, which I thought was expensive given the small amount. I tried a few sips of the citron icy and I wish I ordered that instead. The citron icy was smooth and slightly creamy, so refreshing on a hot day, which it was last Saturday when I visited. Service was ok. The staff members seem to be doing the best they can given the volume of customers. Overall, I had an "ok" experience, but probably wouldn't try them again. read more

This location at Dundas is very small, only a few seats for couples, but I enjoyed their Matcha soft serve ice cream. This place is meant for quick buy and go. The flavour was rich and smooth, so I will definitely check out their other location at Yonge and Sheppard, which apparently is 2 floors! Their prices, though, was a bit steep, so that and the tiny space are why I'm only giving this place a 3*. read more

Admittedly, I love matcha-flavoured anything, so my review may be a little biased. But truthfully, the matcha soft serve here is the best I've had in Canada, and takes me back to the days of travelling in Japan. I've had the Matcha soft serve from Uncle Tetsu's Matcha Cafe, and this was far superior. The ice cream is smooth and creamy, rich with matcha flavours. The only downside is the high price tag. For a small single portion ice cream sundae with mochi balls, we paid a hefty $8 + tax. The store is pretty small and I imagine the lines will be quite long in the summer. Hopefully they'll expand to a few more locations! I look forward to coming back for more matcha deliciousness in the future! read more

If you love matcha green tea, this is heaven. Unfortunately, I'm wasn't a fan, but came here on a recommendation. I found the matcha green tea here pleasant. This restaurant has limited seating, only 3 tables for two, and a low table that can be used for a group of four. I was fortunate enough to come in once when there was seating available. On separate occasions, I tried the Tsujiri shaved ice, the houjicha float, and a cookie puff. The Tsujiri shaved ice was quite decadent. It was shaved ice with green tea, topped with a shiratama ball (glutinous rice ball), a chestnut (the yellow thing), a scoop of red bean paste, and soft serve (green tea, vanilla, or a mix). I enjoyed the toppings a little more than the shaved ice. Once I got to the shaved ice, it was a slush of dark green. The houjicha float was blended green tea topped with soft serve. I thought this one tasted like seaweed (used for sushi). I was later told that it's roasted green tea. The cookie puff is large cream puff. The first few bites didn't taste like green tea, but once you get deeper into the cream puff, you get much more of the green tea flavor. Overall, I was impressed with the flavors. I wouldn't mind coming here again. They have a credit card machine, so there's no need to bring cash. read more

Arrived here around 6pm on a Thursday. Tsujiri is located right on Dundas West with a big store front. The store is brand new and looks fresh with a few seats on the side and a booth at the back. I wouldn't come here expecting to find seating. There was a short line so we probably waited 20 mins to get our ice cream. A large part of our wait was a new staff was being trained. Not to blame the new employee but this dragged out each order by a long shot as I watched the server being confused with every order asking another employee what to put in each one. We ordered a sundae with mochi balls and a scoop of red bean paste. We wanted some of the best picks but they were all sold out, pretty disappointed. The matcha ice cream itself was excellent, with tons of flavour. However at $8 with tax, I was pretty disappointed with the portions. They also only took cash (apparently they haven't set up their payments systems yet) and we didn't know until we ordered so we had actually had to scale back our order because we didn't have enough on us. I probably wouldn't come back, but if you're looking for some tasty Matcha ice cream, I'd still suggest trying. read more

This matcha place just had the soft opening on Sunday. The hype is already there; there are always a lineup. Some of the desserts require a lot of work to ensemble, like the shaved ice and sundae. The staff layer each ingredient carefully to ensure the taste and presentation. Therefore, you can save the service is slow yet very understandable. I have gone there twice and love the matcha soft serve, shaved ice, Houjicha float and Shiratama (Mochi). I have to say it's the best matcha desserts shop in town so far. The matcha flavour is rich and smooth. Shiratama is very yummy and hard to find good one in Toronto. I am glad finally can get good one there. Although the desserts are on the pricy side, I don't mind paying more for this quality. I just love this place and hope it will expand the store to accommodate more seatings. I visit this place to try out there matcha soba noodles. When entering, the bottom floor is where they serve the dessert and upstairs is where they serve food. I try the unagi poke soba and I can't stop thinking about it! It's so refreshing and I love how they have a sweet soy sauce with the matcha soba noodles and salad. Unagi was cook perfectly. The Mochi Mix was good. I'm allergic to nuts so I couldn't try most of the mochi. But overall it wasn't too sweet which was nice. The pancake platter was one of my favourite dessert here. The pancake was sooo fluffy and light. The three ice cream scoops went along well. Overall I would have give this place a 5 star rating but when I inquire about some of the dessert and how I'm allergic to nuts; they didn't really understood me and wasn't to sure of which item in the menu had nuts or no nuts. read more

Yes, Tsujiri has been open a while now. But I really didn't want to wait in the super long lines for a some ice-cream. So I waited this long to go give it a try, thinking that the lines would have died down or dissipated completely. I was wrong, very wrong. The lineup was still out the door. This place must be amazing right? As I was waiting in line for my ice-cream, I realized why the lineups for this place was so long, the store front is REALLY badly designed. The store is super narrow, there isn't enough room for seating, lining up to go inside to order, and then waiting around for your order. After I placed my order for a Shiratama parfait (matcha), I snagged one of their three 2 seater booths. Once I sat down, I was reminded again how narrow the storefront was. People that were lining up kept leaning on me or the table..... I was super annoyed. After several minutes, my order number was finally called. The parfait was smaller than I expected. Ice-cream had good strong matcha flavour, but was a bit chalky. The red bean mash/paste was good, sweet, but good accompanying the strong matcha flavour. First time there and I got the #38 - Chiffon Cake Sundae $7.50, while my friend got the #36 - Tsujiri Sundae. #38 has cornflakes, a scoop of red bean, and a piece of cake in it. While #36 has red bean and a cookie. I thought the ice cream was good but considering the cost, I think it's a bit over priced for what it is. For sundaes, it cost $7.50 which is about $8.50 with tax. O.o Also in terms of space, it's tiny and narrow and has like very little seating available. A concern if mobility is an issue. If you want to grab a seat here, it's best to come with a only 1 other person and be flexible. You will likely have to just take out and eat somewhere else. read more

I was pleased to see the Toronto location for Tsujiri. I have been to the location in Kyoto and I wanted to compare their products. They have a great selection of matcha products at this store including hot/iced drinks, pastries and ice cream parfaits. I had the hojicha soft serve ice cream with kinako (soybean) powder - items I am not normally able to get in my town! Beware - the line is long, and the shop itself is small, but the wait is worth it! If you're hoping to take a break, there's a small tatami area at the back to relax. 3.5 star - This place was popular waaaaay back when it first opened so I thought to check it out with a couple friends. I have already tried the still-popular matcha and black sesame soft serves so I had a good idea of what to expect going in here. I decided to try their Sakura parfait (houjicha soft serve, w/ mochi, a yellow thing and a flower/sakura biscuit) since I haven't tried the houjicha flavor before and my other friend got a matcha soft serve. The houjicha, which is a japanese roasted tea flavor, tasted pretty awesome actually. The matcha on the otherhand was a bit stronger on the bitterness side which I don't know if it's supposed to be but it wasn't too appealing to neither my friend nor me. But in my defence, I often tasted a bit sweeter of a matcha if I ever tried some but my usual preference is black sesame. Anyway, the mochi was partially frozen, I'm not sure what the yellow topping was but it was meh and the sakura biscuit was definitely stale. Disappointing as I am a HUUUGE fan of mochi and the toppings should be at least fresh! The service was quick and friendly despite a small line up that had slowly started forming ahead of me and after me. We waited about 5-8 minutes for our orders. In all honesty, nothing too special about this place. It's like any other japanese soft serve place that has your typical matcha/black sesame/houjicha selections and perhaps a few others. Tsujiri is a great matcha ice cream store on Dundas Street (a few minutes from Eaton). I got the Tsujiri Sundae and it started off very delicious with a nice creamy blend of ice cream. The toppings and red bean paste added a nice personality to the ice cream as it gets pretty plain after a while. However, I was not too fond of the asian snack at the bottom of the cup. It was a strange biscuit and I personally do not think the savoury taste blended well with the sweetness of the ice cream, mochi and red bean paste. The store is not too big and can get crowded very fast so I suggest that if you go to the store as a big group you get your ice cream and continue to wherever you are off to next. read more

Along with the soft serve are shiratama with a great chewiness, anko (sweet red bean paste), and kinako (roasted soybean flour). Nice mix of traditional Japanese flavors and textures. I got the houjicha (roasted green tea) float with matcha soft serve on top. $6.50 plus tax. Its one size only but I'd say the size is a good one. Not too small, not too big. Walking through the streets of dt on a hot summer day holding this ice cream float...was amaaazing. It REALLY hit the spot. The matcha soft serve is so good. You can taste the real matcha in it, including the hint of bitterness. And the ice cream mixed with the tea in one spoon is just so nice. And then when you're done the ice cream you still have icy slushy tea left over to drink! Would definitely recommend this on a hot day. It's the refreshment that keeps giving. I love matcha anything so when my friend mentioned she wanted to try this place, I was definitely for it. We liked it so much and ended up going twice. First night around 8pm, all but one seat was full and no line. I wanted to take a crepe cake home but it was gone. So if you want a crepe cake or mochi cake, you better come early. I got matcha and vanilla mix soft serve in a cone. Very good. The workers know how to make a perfect looking cone too! My friend got a sundae with mochi and a Sakura cookie. It tasted good too but I liked my mix of vanilla and matcha. The second time we went at 12:30pm and the desserts were stocked. I was happy because I planned to take some home to Chicago. I got crepe cake and mochi cake. Both tasted super good. Not an overbearing matcha taste so I was super satisfied. They don't sell macarons anymore. I think there needs to be a menu change a bit because on it they said they have cream puffs but the puffs sold are cookie puffs. Workers have the menu memorized. The cashier spout off all the kinds to sundaes and didn't have to look back at the menu for help. That's impressive. Four stars because they run out of the desserts fast. Initially had mixed feelings about this place, since it's part of the massive Asian invasion on Dundas - another international coming in & less local mom-and-pop shops here. I mean, if you are there when a crowd is packed in there - it's only fair to expect a wait for your food/drink. Overall, service is good. PRICE: As other have said, this place is pricey compared to your ice cream truck stop or a basic latte elsewhere... BUT I think the quality deserves the price tag. That matcha. It's the GOOD stuff. FOOD: I've tried just a few things thus far... 1. Black sesame Matcha Latte - I'm a HUGE fan of black sesame, so was eager to try. When I picked up my cup from the counter - the smell of roasted black sesame HIT me so hard. Was a pleasant surprise. And the base matcha latte was divine! Super high grade matcha, and the latte is not overly sweet (as most other places make them that way). Enjoyed every drop of it. 2. Matcha macaron - I ordered this to eat with my latte, but it didn't deliver as well on flavour or texture. Meh. I've had better elsewhere - especially with all the macaron shops in Toronto now! 3. Sundae - SO good! I shared with my friend, and then wished I ordered my own. The matcha soft serve was so flavourful. Love it. I've walked by this place so many times but finally got the chance to pop in today and try the yuzu citron float. The matcha ice cream is very creamy with an intense green tea flavour that is slightly bitter at the end. The yuzu slush is very refreshing and tastes completely natural with flecks of zest. Nothing is overly sweet and instead tastes very authentic. The line is always about 10 people long but prepare to wait 20 minutes because the drinks are made slowly and with a lot of care. There always seem to be a line out the door here these days, so when there isn't one that's the signal to get some macha icecream. The service is excellent and willing to explain anything you are wondering about. The Tsujiri sundae which comes in a small cup with puffed rice on the bottom, a layer of macha soft serve, red bean layer, a swirl of macha soft serve again, and topped with a mochi, a chestnut and a cherry blossom cookie. I know it sounds like alot of stuff but the cup isn't that big, so you just a bit of everything. The macha soft serve itself was soft, creamy and carried a good punch of flavor. I liked the interplay of the different flavors and textures of the redbean, mochi and chestnut. The puffed rice gave everything a good crunch, but since it was on the bottom of the cup I ended up eating alot of it at the end and felt like I was having mouthfuls of dry cereal. Also, there is a real flower in the cherry blossom cookie, so it was jarring to suddenly have something salty in the midst of all the sugar. In all, it was good. Then again, there's this one place in Vancouver that I compare all cones to because that place honestly has the best ever (Rain or Shine!!), so it's kind of ruined all other cones for me haha. Compared to other Japanese dessert houses, this location specializes in their uji flavour shipped directly from a small southern city in Japan called Uji. Disappointed. As compared with original store in Kyoto in Japan, the shiratama sundae was way too small. I understand it when I think about the importing cost. But more than that, the quality of shiratama made me disappointed. I was the first customer on that day and some shiratama were soft and and others had hard edge. First off, I love anything matcha. Tsujiji's been out for a while now and I'm really late in the game lol but I finally got to try it. We didn't really know what to get but I just chose the Matcha shaved ice + soft serve. I forgot what the other one was called (Yuzu?) but we personally like that one more because it has more flavour and sweetness in it. The matcha soft serve tasted better than the shaved ice and I wasn't a big fan of the random balls (I think mochi's) in it. I probably can't finish this on my own so it's a good sharing dessert. The shop is really small. If there's a line up then there's chance you'd be waiting outside the store. There aren't that many seats either so you're lucky if you find one. We were lucky with the Japanese style seating at the back. You had to take off your shoes for that so it felt really traditional - which was a cool experience. TBH, I don't think I'd come back here because it's a mission for me to get Downtown.. BUT there's one opening at Square One in Mississauga soon and I'm really excited for that! read more

One of my favourite ice cream places in downtown Toronto. As opposed to many other shops, you won't feel extremely bloated afterwards or get the feeling that you just inhaled a carton a watered down milk. I usually get the Tsujiri shaved ice as it is a good mix of milky ice cream and flavoured ice to spare your stomach. The ice melts quickly though so eat it quickly or you'll find yourself drinking the last bits of your dessert. I've eaten at the shop quite a few times and it is a cute little space that you can catch up with friends at. Be prepared to wait some time for a spot as there aren't that many seats but lots of people. If you want a light sweet snack to satisfy your sweet tooth Tsujiri is a great option. read more

I love matcha, so this is probably matcha heaven for me. Decided to try this out while walking around downtown, and while there was a lineup in this small ice cream joint, I believe it was worth the wait (15mins). I got the sundae with matcha soft serve with red bean, mochi and biscuit crumbs and the float with matcha soft serve and houjicha slush, while my friends tried the matcha soft serve and matcha float. First of, the match soft serve is delicious and has a strong flavour of green tea (so you know it's good matcha!) and their mochi was very chewy and soft! The sundae was my favourite, following the houjicha float which reminded me of a mix of coffee and tea! The matcha float was less of a hit, with the matcha slush part tasting more like ice and less like matcha. While it may be slightly pricier than your average ice cream, if you're a matcha lover, it's a go-to spot. read more

Got the houjicha float and regular matcha soft serve in a cup. Taste was decent, I preferred the houjicha over the matcha. Other reviews says to not get the soft served on a cone so I listened to that. Stars took in account the overpriced menu which did not justify. Uniforms and decor is very nice. I see why people hype about it because the interesting menu and display of pastries really do make this place super enticing. I got the Houjicha chiffon cake sundae and wasn't a huge fan. It's okay, too much cake and corn flakes. The Houjicha tasted like a roasted tea, it wasn't as strong as the matcha one, so I thought it was perfect. I had a bit of the match one and it was definitely too bitter from the strong tea. Sundae itself is huge and even as a fat ass, I cannot finish in 1 seating as a dessert. It would be great if they can make a mini version or else I can't see myself coming again with someone to share it with. read more
