It's the end of an Era for us. After 9 years of loyalty to our local pub I'm sad to say we won't be back. I can't get over how unsanitary the bartenders are. We sat at the bar and all of them were grabbing lemons, olives, and other condiments bare handed, putting it in drinks, taking cards and money. I didn't see them wash their hands. They Squeezed the lemons into the drinks while I imagined all the money germs & other bacteria mixed into the drinks. Thanks for the good memories in the past. The Mrs. and I went to Tubby's on Thursday night. This was our second visit. Tubby's was always an enigma to me. I'd drive by it on my way to Costco and wonder what it was like. I looked at reviews on yelp and the food looked pretty good and the atmosphere looked just as good. The first time we went to Tubby's we just had drinks. On that occasion, we called our liquor. Mine being Maker's Mark and the Mrs.'s being Bombay Sapphire. Our tab for four drinks ended up being about $60. We were shocked. Our drinks were $14 a piece, which I wouldn't expect in a place like Tubby's. The average that I have seen is about $12. When we went back to Tubby's this past Thursday. It wasn't busy at all. We sat down at the bar(same perch as last time) and Steve, the bartender remembered us.....and our drink order. We were shocked considering we had only been into Tubby's one time. My wife asked Steve about the $14 drinks and he confirmed the price. Then he explained that their well Bourbon and Gin used in the same drinks was half the price. Truth be told, our same drinks made with the well alcohol was just as good. On Thursday's adventure we decided to try the food. I love bar food. Real bar food. Not-high end "lounge" type stuff, but just good old fashioned fried, grilled goodness. I decided to try the New York steak. At $12, it came with a side, veggies, and a salad. For my side, I chose the onion rings. I mean, if you're going to eat food in a bar, you have to do it right. My salad came out first. And a very generous salad it was with tons of bleu cheese and grilled cheese toast. It was a meal in itself. Then my steak arrived. All I have ti say is the cook at Tubby's knows what he is doing. My steak was a perfect medium rare and seasoned perfectly. The onion rings were good and the steamed veggies were just steamed veggies. LOL. Since the Mrs. wasn't that hungry, she ordered a BLT to go and we ordered chicken tenders for kiddo. I didn't hear any complaints so that was a good sign. The clientele at Tubby's seemed to be mostly locals from what I could gather from the various conversations going on at the bar. Like any good bar, you hear some funny ones. It's a great friendly bar I'm a local but im not mr. popular so I can come in grab a drink and read a book. You can come in and be left to yourself if you so do wish. The best bar that offers a chance to eat a healthy meal. I'd recommend the grilled chicken and grilled veggies, comes with a giant baked potato cheese bread and salad. Better food than Norms resteraunt with larger portions. This tavern is the nicest of the local bars based on pricing and the fact that the patrons are not snobby. Ps. I picked-up a couple of lunch-time food orders over the last; few months, after seeing; "Tubby's", advertising a; %20 off discount, on the; "GetUpside", smart-phone app. Burgers, fries, and onion-rings. The food wasn't something I would go out of my way for, per se, (maybe I would on certain days ( taco tues., prime rib weekends, etc.)) yet this was during the lunch-time hours, mid-work week. Therefore, I would recommend to consider it, if it's on the way/in the area. Good spot for locals. Additionally, there is no way to order food online, or at least, not that I'm aware of, so one would need to look at the menu here on "Yelp", then phone-in the order for pick-up (usually ready in about 15-20mins.). Tubby is the name of a sports bar a few blocks west of the La Habra Costco...or rather it's the name of the gut I'm forming from all the red meat and booze I've been consuming. Perhaps it's one piece of the 1000-piece puzzle that explains where I'm finding all this red meat and booze. Wait, I don't think that one is the on the menu, but it comes included free of charge with any of the meals. My only redeeming excuse is that the last two times I've been here, it's been after my workout at LA Fitness. This past Saturday was a pour of the Stone Delicious IPA and prime rib special. Only reason I'm giving a 2 star is because the crowd was so nice. But the service is the worst I've ever had in my life I ordered drinks from a bartender named jimmey and he had no problem running my card right then and there, waited 10 min he said they are coming and on the way. Then proceeded to the juke box while I was waiting, then I asked the bar back and locals and they had to remind him I bought drinks. Sadly had to check my receipt that he just made to get my drinks I would've never even got them. Horrible first impression on my first night here. The bartender is cool, but the waitress is awful. Never in my life has a waitress at a bar not offered menus or drinks or never checked on you. She took my empty beer glass that I only got bc I walked to the bar and didn't look at me and didn't ask if I want another or anything. Even after I tried to say something she kept walking past me. We tried to flag her down 10 times she would look us in the eyes and turn to the same table of ladies she knew. Shame because the place looked cool and I heard the food is good but we didn't get to try it. We tried ordering food but never got a menu and absolutely no one came up to us to take our order the entire time we were there. Looking back on my last review, it did not give justice to how great this establishment really is. We came by late yesterday afternoon for a drink on the way to family function (one of those "your dreading to go to" events, but if you don't go you'll be back lashed for life for not going) and wow to my surprise they had Hangar 24 on tap! This place does remind me of Cheer's like the previous reviews state, locals there all know each other & the bartender (didn't catch his name, I think Mark?) was really cool, like a well-oiled machine, loyal & took care of everyone. People there were mellow, into their conversations, and hadn't been there in a long while, so we stood out like newbies, but they were cool, mostly white folks & us being hispanic, they didn't gawk at us like other places normally do, just kept to their conversations - really nice when people are cool like that. The other thing my husband liked was the sign they have posted on the outside, with a dress code/"no-no" list one item being "no baggy pants". They basically keep their bar free of the "undesirables' & the problems that come with that....Definitely not a ghetto bar.....Perfect! It's still a nice place where you can be known or unnoticed, your choice. A true hidden underrated gem of a spot to stop for a drink or meal - food is also great. It's dark, got the pool tables, the wall jukebox, the u shaped booths, lots of brewski's on tap, mixed drinks, wine, pretty much a full bar & probably more for being small, but far better than the larger bars in the area where you get lost amongst the trendy hipster masses. And for me a big plus because they have Hangar...yah again! Definitely coming back, but do take serious what the one or two reviewers stated about the parking situation, it can be dangerous when leaving the small parking lot of this dead strip mall, everyone obviously there for the bar & leaving the hungry police to stake out their potential victims. Rude as hell bartender Sunday night. I frequent this bar as I live down the street. I've always used my passport as form of ID and never had an issue. Mind you, I'm also a bartender myself and know that you can take a passport as form of ID. I went in Sunday night for a beer and pulled out my passport to show and he rejected it. No big deal. Was just going to leave. Thought it was a sign that I shouldn't have a drink. I just said oh I come here all the time and it's usually taken but I put the passport back in my purse and started to walk out. As im walking out, he yells rude comments as im walking to the door. She singled us out, we paid and tipped and she believed we didn't pay. She ran outside looking for us and she accused us of walking out without paying and demanded to see the receipt. The food was good, the crowd was good, the service was great when we got it but the poor guy was so busy. I cannot recommend the top sirloin (way overcooked and tough) but the fried chicken was delicious. The salad and sides were fine. Drinks were strong and not expensive. Went to Tubby's on Tuesday for lunch with friends. We were pleased to see the accommodation of outside covered dining area they provided. We were greeted by our server who immediately took our drink orders and returned swiftly with them. Since it was Taco Tuesday of course we ordered the tacos. I was so surprised when my beef tacos arrived! The amount of beef and cheese was amazing for the $1 they charge for their special on Tuesday! I have never had a better beef taco. The salsa was a little spicy for me but very tasty. My other friends ate up the family salsa recipe with gusto! Well I have to say this place is a little gem. My friend from LA Habra introduced me to this place. First time there I was recommended to get the chicken dinner, 4pcs served with a salad and choice of potato and the chicken was not greasy and was delicious . Then my next visit was lunch, I got the burger with fries awesome and less then $8 and it was delicious . My last visit I got the pork chop dinner and the pork chops were a little thin not really flavorful but still for less than $11 it's still a great deal. For $16 you can get a prime rib meal with a choice of side, soup or salad and they give you cheese bread (similar to sizzler's) you can't go wrong! Prime rib was cooked to my preference of medium rare and the seasoning was delicious! Definitely a pub/bar atmosphere with first come first serve seating.
