I came here the other day with some family and friends. It is a hang out of one of my cousins and they say the food is good also. The place was chill, not packed, clean, and the vibe was cool. Only thing i don't like about this place is the parking is right in front of the bar, easy was to get pulled over when leaving. NO BUENO! These types of places need parking in the rear for those that want through some back and not get spotted by "The Federales" pulling out his place. I've never been pulled over leaving as I've only been here once but i can see it happening. Other than that the people were cool, nothing special but i would come back. Went to Tubby's for Mother's Day and had the worst experience with any bartender in my history of alcohol. She was rude, overbearing, and advising me not to listen to a little old man's dirty jokes. Love. My new favorite place for food and drinks. After trying the bacon cheeseburger I became addicted. It was hard for me to even try other menu items. Once I satisfied my burger cravings and tried other meals I was blown away by how consistently good everything else is. This was a close one from being 5 stars. I had always heard from a lot of different friends that this place is somewhere i should avoid (for different reasons) obviously i did not heed any of their suggestions because i went last night because a friend asked if i wanted to go for free pool night. and i was not expecting to stay long, thinking that this place would be a dump. and i couldn't be more wrong. i mean, don't come here expecting that this place be an amazing bar like no other. but it is nice and a bit different from the ordinary crap bar that you'd think it would be from looking at the outside appearance of the bar. with my friend (the one who suggested that i go to this bar) being a regular at this bar, when we walked in we got a greeting from everyone at the bar in the form of a hardy yell of my friend's name. i was half expecting to see Gary Portnoy in the corner of the bar singing "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" (that might be the second time i have used a "Cheers" reference in one of my reviews...[talk about unoriginality!)] with sepcials for different things during most of the week, there is normally a reason to go there (sounds like a horrible way to get Alcoholics to keep going without killing themselves.) "There is no point to life anymore!!!..... but there is the drink special on thursday...." says the drunk that i imagine would go to this bar that i have so generously given four stars. If you look at this bar from the street as you drive by, there is really no reason you'd want to come here. (the word of mouth must be good for this place seeing that there are a number of people coming here still) it looks dilapidated and depression, until you walk inside, in which is it brightly lit (by bar standards) there are plenty of pool tables to play on, and the juke box has a great selection. the interior includes a row of leather booths against the right wall and the bar lining the left wall. once you get inside you will realize that there is nothing Dumpy about this place. in fact, i would say that this is one of the nicest looking bars that i have been inside in the whittier area. (which isn't saying much, i know, but it is still nice either way) Great location, Fun atmosphere. amazing drink prices. a nice hangout during the weekdays if you want a laid back bar that isn't crowded but is still fun. read more

It has a dive bar feel to it. The food is pretty good! I personally like the pizza! Beer is always good. There is actual seating besides at the bar. We come here for there tacos Tuesdays once in a while an a while. The tacos are really good. They have really good salsa that's goes with the tacos perfectly. There drink prices are not bad, compared to other places. The service is good if you sit at the bar or if Steve takes care of us at a regular table. There was a time we come here a while back ago and were taken care of by this female server and she was sooooo rude, we actually stopped coming here for a good while and decided to give this place another try and found out she wasn't working there anymore which was great. I would recommend this place on a Tuesday when it's the busiest and has a good atmosphere. However, don't get me wrong they have really good specials you don't want to pass on like there main entrees. I recommend: the tacos, the ribeye, New York or prime ribeye. The prime rib I would suggest to ask for it rare, so when you get it it's a medium rare or medium. They tend to over cook it which is easy to do with that type of meat. read more

So on St Patricks Day I go to another restaurant that had been advertising the Cornbeef and Cabbage all month long. The wife and I wait for our 20 year old daughter to get done tutoring her little pupil and we take off at 6 PM, by 6:20 we are seated and I state that I dont need a menu, I am getting the Cornbeef... and the waiter replies that he just gave away the last plate to the lady sitting next to us. SO WE START CALLING AROUND AND TUBBY'S IS THE ONLY ONE STILL SELLING IT IN THE AREA. When we get there, I was kind of concerned with my daughter since she is 20 but looks like she is 14. Af first the manager is like, "no.... but then he says as long as we are out by 8 pm." We waited a long time but its St Patricks Day in a Irish Pub. If anyone complains about that, then you need help!! When the brought my plate, he said I got the 2nd to the last plate and I wouldn't want to be that guy because my portion was really small, BUT I got my cornbeef on St Paddy's day. Thats why they got the 4 stars instead of 3. I will have to go back on a regular day and re-evaluate the place. Looks like a fun place to be. read more

Everyone loves a good ol' dive bar... just not this one. My mom and I went in to grab a drink and food around 8 pm on a Friday night. We both ordered a beer, and they were both so watered down. There was absolutely no seating available so we took to the side to scope out a table when it became available. We finally found a booth, and waited probably 30 minutes for the waitress to greet us/take our food order. Keep in mind, there's maybe 5 booths up against the wall. You can't miss us. She came and took our order. She wasn't rude, but you could tell she really just didn't give a shit. We waited another 25 minutes for our food. We ordered the nachos, the crispy tender salad, and a soft pretzel. The food was good, but nothing special. If you had a good experience here, then it's the total drunk package. The nachos and salad came first. We both finished eating and waited another 15 minutes for the pretzel. The pretzel was actually really gross. Apparently the cook burned the first one that's why it took so long, but the one we got wasn't much better. It was hard and chewy to the point that my jaw hurt just trying to chew it. We couldn't even eat half. All in all it was a bust and I won't be back. If the beer wasn't watered down, it might have been able to redeem itself... but my mom ended up not finishing her beer and actually just ordering water. read more

What a great long standing establishment!! It blends into the shopping area so well you can almost miss it. But I can tell you, this place has the best tacos. There was 9 of us eating lunch on Tues, and some of our group had not been there before and NO ONE was disappointed. They ordered 2 and just about everyone ordered another one. They prepare their own shredded beef and it is so good, it's a must! we all loved the way they did the chicken tacos too so it's hard to choose which one is better. I like a few things on the menu, so I ordered a breakfast burrito to go, and that was so so good and so big I couldn't believe it. Food Ambiance drinks is great HOWEVER server Laura is thee worse me and friends were there hanging out having a good time prior to leaving bar we closed our tab and tipped we walked out of bar as we were walking to our cars we hear Laura yelling walking towards us accusing us of not paying for our tab we were in complete disbelief as in what was happening my friend walked back towards her and showed her proof of the receipt that we had paid she then right away blamed it on the other male bartender that he didn't tell her that we had closed our tab unbelievable she insinuated that we were stealing from the bar talk about singling us out most embarrassing moment horrible service in her part she need to be retrained in customer service because of her we will NOT be returning staff needs to communicate better with each other before they chase after their clients blaming them for not paying their tab. read more

Tonight on thanksgiving Eve his partner bartender was horrible. Kept looking at his phone, did not pay much attention or even care who was waiting to order drinks. This guy really should just clear tables instead of being behind the bar. Jimmy picked up this guys slack big time. I'd rather wait for another bartender to take my order then this guy. He was working around 7-9 p.m. tonight 11/27/19. Was horrible. Was more interested in checking his phone then taking drink orders. He acted like he did not want to be there. Hello everyone, I just visited this little tavern for the first time and WOW! Tubby's has a great selection of beer amongst various other spirits. What really blew my socks off was the prime rib! It comes with a choice of a baked potato, fries or onion rings and to start you off is a small dinner salad. Tubby's tavern is truly a hidden gem and to ad to the experience there are 3 pool tables to keep you occupied in between beers! The atmosphere is very relaxed and most important are their reasonable menu prices! We where a party of 4 so our bill had 2 ribeye dinners a prime rib dinner a burger dinner and miscellaneous beverages with an order of jalapeño poppers to start the experience all for $85.00!?! WoW! That's a deal in today's climate! Where In some cases our bar tab has been more than that! I highly recommend the prime rib excellent! Kid friendly you just can't sit at the bar with them you'll have to sit at a table so that said congratulations to Tubby's I will definitely return sooner than later cheers everyone! read more

I've been going there for years because it's a cool little bar with a nice set up. Only problem is the staff. They have never been friendly whatsoever. They never make you feel welcome. I can overlook that but recently I ordered food from them because I wanted to help out my local business. So first of all, when I order the food over the phone, the guy who answers is typically unfriendly and unprofessional. I had to restate my order over and over because he was not paying attention and not writing it down. When he finally gets my small order he gruffly says "Give me a hour" and hangs up. Long story short, I finally pick up my food. The guy behind the bar is being a Total Jerk to me so I leave without giving a tip. I drive all the way home just to find out he forgot my Wife's salad. Totally frustrated I call him and he gruffly tells me "just come back". No apology, No kindness, No professionalism. By this time, I am frustrated that I have to drive all the way back and he is still being a jerk about everything. I get back there and he basically throws the food at me like I'm the one at fault so I grab the bag out of his hand before he can set it all the way down and he calls me a name under his breath. So I call him an "A'hole" out loud and walk out. I feel bad about losing my temper but I took about as much of his bad attitude as I could stand. I will never go back there again. I've been here plenty of times with friends. Most of my experiences have been pleasant. Except for this past weekend... I purchased a beer or two and tipped pretty generously. We're talking 4 buck tip on 6 bucks of beer. I closed out my tab. Then, last minute a friend of mine was coming and since it was almost last call I decided to purchase him a beer. The bill was roughly 4.75 so I just thought just round up to the next dollar, and handed the little credit card receipt to the same bartender I just generously tipped 15 minutes earlier. He comes back with a smirk on his face and says I don't need your change rudely. I was taken aback. The bartender clearly had some sort of attitude problem. I hate the customers here, they are stuck up, think theyre bad ass or think they have a bigger pair of balls than the other men. There are all types of people and all different ages here, from people who look like theyre in Jr high which I"m pretty sure they were, it looked like a family outing all the way to old construction worker men that are ready to retire.. A fight broke out over pool and the party next to us had a guy who was staring my friend down for no reason, just because he was sitting within his peripheral vision. I hate this place, I ended up here b/c Lost Weekend was closed & I had to find a nearby place quick for a surprise birthday party...the dozen people i brought hated this place and were miserable, they all left the party early... this place has a variety of weird nut bags... never again!!!!!!!!!! As you drive past it for the 3rd time you realize that its not much to look at from the outside. That's where the negatives end and multitude of positives begin. This place is surprisingly large on the inside for a "dive" bar. Lining the right side of the bar is a row of booths and on the left side is the bar. Separating the bar in two is 3 very nice pool tables that are well kept. Bathrooms are in the back. (women on the right side, men left) The beer selection is very good and the bartenders know how to make a strong drink. What gives this place an extra star is the food!! Its amazing that this place puts out the quality of food they do...Super tasty, large sizes, and pretty cheap for what you get. The environment is usually energetic with a good mix of youth and veteran patrons. Their music selection is great and the overall feel is defiantly a warm one. read more
