The funeral director named Danielle was nice to work with when we sat to make arrangements, but then every other aspect of customer service was two thumbs down. It began when two people came to retrieve my loved one's body...a woman with the sides of her hair shaved arrived to help the young Black man who waited soberly for her. Then they wrapped the precious body and wheeled her out to the hearse that the man was driving, and then woman started to walk to her personal car. My family was literally standing in the street--dumbstruck with grief to watch the body being taken away--and the woman turned back and was talking and laughing loudly with the man. I was appalled--clearly this is just a job to her and that the sorrow of the moment isn't occur to her or matter to her. A few days later when I found out that the funeral home would be receiving my loved one's ashes at some point that day, I wanted to pick them up as soon as I could to bring them home...the woman at the funeral home said, "Tomorrow morning would be better." I thought, better for who?!!? I wanted her ashes with me overnight, not sitting in a funeral home!! Was that really so hard to understand??!! Couldn't the person have tried to be more present and empathic for a grieving family?? The woman said that she would call me when she knew the ashes would be arriving from the crematorium, but she didn't call and I didn't want them to close at 5 o'clock without getting the ashes so I went to the funeral home at 4 o'clock and waited for the person to arrive which was close to 5 o'clock. When the man arrived with our loved one's remains, he came in the door schlepping our beloved's ashes with armfuls of plastic bags and started talking with the other man at the funeral home (who had seen me and my father waiting for an hour) about cheeseburgers. The man should have immediately interrupted the meaningless conversation and straightaway brought the ashes to us, but instead I stood at the office door listening to them talk about cheeseburgers. I literally had to interrupt them and ask, "Do you have the ashes?" They didn't have them in the wooden urn so I had to go back the next morning to get the urn and also to point out that the small ceramic urn we had already bought had a chip on the lid. But the most disappointing part was that when I went back the next morning to have everything made right, the woman helping me had the gall to say, "That's why I told you to come this morning and not last night." It was the women who shouted with laughter when my loved one's body was being driven away in a hearse. If you want your agonizing experience of arranging for the death services of someone you don't want to live without, go somewhere else. Sarah and Nicky took very good care of my father until I could arrive in Washington. We were able to get everything started over the phone. My father had passed alone in his apartment. The funeral home had the foresight to look around and find his important papers and wallet which made my life much easier with the death certificate and all the other million things needed to do when a loved one passes. They are very honest, as well. They found money on him which they applied to the cremation services. The price was very good. They bundle a cremation package which includes the death certificate, his transportation, their services etc. Also, they worked hard to get my dad's death certificate for me before I left Washington, which I did not expect. I was only in town 3 1/2 days to clean out his apartment and had it in hand before boarding my plane. Most importantly, they comforted me during this difficult time. They always took my calls and I sometimes spoke to them 3-4 times a day. They also kept me formed via email before I arrived. They treated my father with respect and dignity and me with kindness Thank you so much Sarah and Nicky. I really don't know how I would have gotten through that week if it was anyone else. read more

Unfortunately my mom passed away from cancer on 12/17/2018 and we found ourselves visiting the funeral home. We had made prior arrangements with them and called them the day my mom passed away. The funeral home picked up my mom and were very professional and sensitive. Everything was very smooth and respectful. The following day we had an appointment to choose the urn for my mom. The parking area isn't that big but the funeral home is very nicely kept. The staff was extremely friendly and extremely helpful. There was no pressure and they granted our wishes. They have beautiful urns and lots of different memorial service packages. There memorial room is very spacious. We didn't have my moms service there but we were able to see it in case we changed our minds. We were very pleased with their services and help through this hard time. My wife passed away on July 05, 2013 of a prolonged battle with colon cancer. As I evaluated the options of what to do in the months prior to this. I had looked at probably 30 different providers. So I reached out to Tom at Tuell-McKee. Compassionate, caring and very helpful. So when my wife did pass, Kittitas Valley Hospice was able to call them. They dispatched transport immediately. Living in Ellensburg, and they in Tacoma I wasn't sure originally if this would work. They turned out to be consummate professionals, my step-son and I met with them afterwards to finalize details. No pressure to buy additional services, and so on. My wife did in fact have to stay in a cooler as the doctor dropped the ball. Took forever to sign the death certificate. They kept me constantly informed during this process. I have referred people to them because of this experience. My brother who had terminal Mantle Cell Lymphoma, a rare cancer. He also ended up passing. Also in my home, having used them 7 weeks before, I wanted to use them again. They were incredibly caring and I can't say enough good about them. Carolyn, Tom and Jeff are stellar and made a terrible set of circumstances into something easier to bare. Our family can't thank them enough. read more

When my mother died I wanted a long established funeral home to take care of her. As she had died after a brief but horrible tangle with an aggressive disease, I knew that my mother wanted to be cremated without being embalmed. Unfortunately, it had happened quickly enough that arrangements with a funeral home had not yet been made. After speaking to a few places on the phone, I chose Tuell McKee as they sounded compassionate and honest. Remember, I have just lost this incredible woman after the worst 8 weeks of my life, and now I had her dead body in the living room so I felt pressed to make a quick decision. The funeral director I spoke to arrived at the house when he said he would with one other man in attendance. I indicated we would like a chance to have a private viewing as this had all happened so quickly. We were told that as she didn't want to be embalmed, it would have to be this afternoon as they had to take care of the body within 48 hours unless it is embalmed. It seemed kind of rushed but we agreed, had the viewing, and left our beloved mother to be taken care of. Five days later, we called to see when we could pick up our mother's ashes. The woman who answered the phone casually informed us she had not yet been cremated. When pressed as to why the delay, the woman said no one had signed the death certificate yet. Asking her why no one had signed or followed up on this detail yielded a series of excuses that included, "it is the hospice doctor's fault...no one told me to call...I'm sorry you don't like the way we do this...and for goodness sake, she's been refrigerated the whole time." Later, the same woman called, asked for my mother by name, insisted she had the right name, and then laughed when she realized she was asking for the diseased. She said that it had been handled now and we could pick her up tomorrow. Needless to say, after all of the rush when we were in shock and pain, finding out that my mother was hanging out in the refrigerator long after we assumed the deed was done was like one more punch to our already broken hearts. When I picked up my mother's ashes the next day, I spoke at length with the funeral director. Other than a bit of hand wringing, and a comment about how that really shouldn't have happened, no offer of apology, discount, or refund was made to us for what we see as a failure to handle my mother's body, and her grieving family, with compassion and professionalism. I am not sure what a good experience would have been in such a terrible time, but I KNOW this wasn't one. I cannot recommend Tuell McKee Funeral Home to anyone. read more

He went out of his way to fulfill my fathers request to have full Marine Corps military honors at his burial. This was not easily fulfilled due to the minimal number active duty Marines in our area. They deserve ZERO STARS. Signed up and paid for a Direct Cremation almost 2 years ago for my uncle, a Korean War Veteran. They assured me everything was in order as I had told them I might be out of country when he passed. He died On a Thursday morning, They came to get his body. If there were forms to sign I could have signed them then and there.... Tuell McKee guy never mentioned forms to sign. He also could have told me to go to the office and sign forms. I even called them and spoke with employees and no mention of forms to sign. Tuell McKee leaves a text on my phone while I am busy on Friday at 3 pm, 26 hours after picking up my uncles body to say I need to sign forms. I call back and the Tuell McKee Director returns my call to lecture me that the other people I spoke with weren't funeral directors. I reminded him that they were his employees and if he did not train them correctly that is on him. I mentioned that now my uncle would have to sit somewhere for over 4 days without his cremation because Tuell McKee did not do their job. The Director could have cared less. My father, a WW II Veteran, passed away 3 days ago. He had a Purple Cross Burial plan already paid for. We have been trying to get his services arranged through Tuell-Mckee with no progress. Tuell-Mckee says my father's policy is worth $2,600.00, but American Memorial states the policy is worth $3,800.00. The Purple Cross Insurance company said they will be sending a $3,800.00 check to Tuell-Mckee. Tuell-Mckee PROFITS form the unspent funeral cost. How GREEDY can a company be? Tuell-Mckee wants us to pay for my father's cremation at today's prices. Tuell-Mckee states that to get military honors we have to have the funeral in Tacoma, Wa. when most of the relatives and friends attending are from Bremerton, Wa. Tuell-Mckee Funeral Home's brochure states that they serve ALL CEMETARIES. We are asking for a 2 hour service at Miller-Woodlawn. Tuell-Mckee wants to charge us an additional $800.00 for the service at Miller-Woodlawn and pay for dad's cremation at TODAY'S PRICES. We are a family in mourning, trying to give our Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, friend and WORLD WAR II VETERAN a decent funeral. Tuell-Mckee's brochure states how they are all family with respect, concern and attention to the smallest detail and respect their clients as they would expect their family to be treated. DON'T BE FOOLED BY Tuell-Mckee. They are not honoring their Purple Cross Plan. Their brochure also states that equivalent merchandise may be substituted at time of need. THAT'S NOW !!! Our friends and family are waiting to hear when and where the service will be held. Tuell-Mckee offered us a small room next door that holds 20 (twenty) people and the rep. Heather Carpenter stated the room is not large enough to even fold a U.S. Flag. I am sickened by their stubborness and greed at this sorrowful time in our lives. read more
