We purchased a Tuff Shed in Austin because they are touted to be tough and reliable. I also used to work for the Home Depot and pushed the Tuff Shed brand to customers as reliable. The cost was over $3500 for our small, simple shed. Over all the shed seems to hold up, but the hinges, which are touted to hold up to 500lbs each (and a bit too much to believe), are failing to keep the door from sagging. Another small item that was never installed and I am seeing on other Tuff Sheds is the drip edge above the door. I actually will add my own, but I see that Tuff Shed does install it, but it was never done on our shed. I called Tuff Shed and spoke to customer service about the door sagging and hanging up at the threshold, but I never got a call back. This sagging door was an issue after we had the shed installed, and they did come out to adjust, but not this time. The bottom hinge has come loose due to the door sticking and one of the stainless steel screws(?) I pulled was broken and rusted. Now I have to reset the entire door and square it off, and I am considering using heavy duty T Hinges instead. They seem stronger. As for Tuff Shed, I would look at other sheds, or build your own better. read more

We bought a shed in March for our rental business. We were told it would be built by Memorial Day. The job was not finished until November 5th. The building failed the occupancy permit. The general manager said it was not tuff sheds responsibility to ensure the building met occupancy code. I paid for anchors, which were required that were never installed and a vent which was never installed. When they went out to the house 6 weeks after the shed was built to install the vent. I recently purchased a Premiere Pro Studio. The online building tool was very helpful and my wife and I loved picking out all the features and colors. When it came to the purchase, the sales people were very low pressure and very helpful with walking us through all the steps and helping keep us informed about whether we needed to get a building permit - they were very knowledgeable about local ordinances. Installation went very smoothly, especially for what was no trivial building project. My installer, Jorge, showed up right on time and was very courteous and professional. He cleaned the site and got it leveled in no time at all, and then proceeded to work his tail off to get the shed upright and completed within a day. I'm still scratching my head as to how he was able to lug the walls by himself - they had to be at least 300 lbs each. As far as the quality of his work - you can see the photo (I've obviously added electrical and drywall), but it turned out great. Where do I start? DO NOT BUY A SHED FROM TUFF SHED. To begin, I purchased a tuff shed from my local home Depot. Prior to even going into the store, I spent about an hour building, and pricing what I wanted. I brought in the quote sheet so it would be quick when I got to home Depot. When I arrived at home Depot, I spoke with the tuff shed representative that worked there. I told the gentleman that I had a tall order. I needed this particular shed, and needed it installed prior to Christmas as it was a gift for my wife. After he reconfigured it on the home Depot computers in store, magically raising the price by $500 but explaining how great of a deal it was, I THEN HAD TO SHOW HIM HOW TO USE THE TUFF SHED SITE. I then configured it again to what I wanted. Not what HE WANTED me to buy. After spending 35 minutes waiting for him to communicate with his installers, he garunteed me it would be installed on the 23rd, so long as we recieved permits from the city the following day. With that garuntee, I went ahead and purchased the shed. Being sure to make it clear I didn't want to buy it if it wouldn't be installed on time. Again, he assured me it would be before Christmas, the 24th at the latest. The next day, tuff shed came out to my property, looked at it, and took $35 from me to go get permits. He left my property, went to the city, and got permits immediately. Everything seemed like they were going great. Permits were pulled and approved, shed was paid for. MAN WAS I READY for the shed. The next day I received an email from tuff shed with documents that needed approval and signing. I signed, approved, and made sure everything was good to go. This is where things get frustrating. A day or so later, I got a call from Barbra at tuff shed. She was calling to inform me that their installer that was going to install my shed recieved last minute information from his wife and they were going to be "gone for Christmas Eve." And asked if I could reschedule. I explained to her the circumstances and that if it wasn't installed on time, I was going to have to cancel. At this point, she backs down, and says "then we will keep you on Christmas Eve and get it done". I thought hm. Okay. Kinda weird they're trying to cancel after I explicitly said I wouldn't purchase it if it wasn't done prior to Christmas. But, she says she's going to get it taken care of, and why would I have any reason to be suspect? With a little re instilled confidence, I went to home Depot and spent $200 on wiring and electrical for the shed, spent another $200 on sand and fill to make a foundation, and went to work. Ran underground wiring, and laid the foundation in anticipation of the shed being installed soon. I then called off work for the install day since they need someone there for the entire time the installers are preset. (losing $150 for the day not being at work). With anticipation, I patiently waited till today. Christmas Eve. The garunteed install date. After not hearing from them this morning, I texted Barbara, who immediately responded saying she would call. She calls, and explains that her installer this morning had 3 slashed or "sabotaged" tires in her wording, and that it just simply wasn't going to be installed today. I kindly explain again that I didn't want it if it wasn't installed on time as this was a CHRISTMAS present and everyone involved prior told me no problem. It will be done on time. She said she would call me back and try to figure something out. I then get a call from her manager, who explains that it just wasnt going to happen and that they could get me taken care of at a later date. So, after $585 of cash out of pocket, tons of prep, work, and patiently waiting, I cancelled my order. I'm a man of my word, and own my own business. I WOULD NEVER CANCEL ON A CLIENT. AND NEVER TRY TO RESCHEDULE TWICE EITHER. I would expect any other self respecting business do the same. NEVER PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY. So far the shed install is going well. HOWEVER, make sure EVERYTHING around the area where it's going to be installed is clear by At Least 5'! Especially over the roof. I thought I had cleared all the branches away before they showed but as they were working on the roof they decided a large branch was in the way and just started cutting without even notifying me of the problem first. They seemed to have enough room to put the roof on, but afterwards decided they wanted more room, so now there's a huge gap of shade missing over the shed. I tried to stop them but it was too late. They called their boss, I talked to him, and he asked if I wanted them to stop working. Of course not lol.. So just a heads up. If your shed is going to be under trees, make dang sure there's at least 6 feet clearance. Otherwise they'll make your tree look terrible. read more

The quality of the shed, if bought through Tuff Shed's website, is of better quality than if you buy it from a Home Depot, this was a nice surprise. Tried to find out from Tuff Shed the size of different sheds as anything over 200 square feet where I live requires a permit. The Tuff Shed brochure only lists the size of the steel foundation, which is not the size of the shed. I called the main number and they transferred me to the permit department and they said I needed to speak with the sales department about the size of the different sheds. The sales department then said I needed to talk with the permit department. Seems like an easy enough question and if this can't be answered without multiple phonecalls to different people then how are they going to smoothly complete a multi-step, involved process like installing a shed? Although we paid extra yes EXTRA for them to do the leveling they say our door issue is due to poor workmanship! So now they just want to jetty rig it rather than do a proper repair. My shed turned out great! Picking out all the features online was really easy, but I went in person to the store to look at the paint samples. We went with the standard 8x8 garden shed, which is perfect for storing the lawnmower, etc. The paint colors happen to match our house perfectly. We lucked out during a slow time and so they were able to install it just 5 days later. The installer was great! They say they will come but no one ever shows up. I have talked to someone there many times about this problem and they blame the guy in charge of warranty. Meanwhile the rain is causing damage to the inside and contents. A few weeks ago he said "dont worry its not going to rain this week". We had a huge downpour a few days later. If I could give negative 5 stars I would. I worked with Jesse and I ordered a shed off the lot at the Austin location of Tuff Shed. It was a Pro Premiere Weekender 10x16. I was promised several things prior to placing my 50% down payment. They were; the shed could be disassembled and delivered, and if not it could be delivered whole to my home, the shed could be delivered in two weeks, they would place a new roof on the shed, and they would paint the trim. Trouble started nearly Immediately when after paying the deposit I was told that they would not put a new roof on. Next I was told that the shed had to be delivered whole. Which necessitated removal of a large fence. So we would have to hire a team to remove the fence, at a large expense. I had discussed with Jesse the necessity if having the shed delivered quickly, as the shed was to be a small guest quarters for guests we would be having at christmastime. However, Terry, the scheduling manager in Buda, did not call me to set up a delivery date. I had to call her several times to get a date sorted. When I did speak to her she was unpleasant and rude. After finally getting to speak to Terry; which took over a month a date for delivery was scheduled. We hired a team to remove the fence and my husband took an unpaid day off work. We were called by terry the night before delivery and she said "the truck is broken" so they were unable to deliver. She said she would let me know as soon as it was fixed. We lost a day's pay, and $200 for removal and replacement of the fence. Terry did not let me know the truck was running again. (It was disabled a week, I later found out) so I called her, and called her...I had to call several times to get a response. Another 4 weeks go by. Finally, we have another delivery date of December 19. (Too late to be usable by our Christmas guests). And again, we hire a team to remove the fence. And Tuff Shed drivers show up, and the shed has a smashed window, one of the support beams that hold up the porch roof is dangling. And the trim isn't painted. They attempt delivery anyway, promising that someone will be by next week to fix the shed. However after several attempts to back down the greenway behind our house, which involved further damaging the shed as well as the green space, they gave up. The driver informed us that they were planning on building another unit, exactly the same on the lot and perhaps they would be able to build it at my house, since the shed I had paid for was destroyed. My husband and I called Jesse. And we were told that it would cost an additional $1900 to have the shed built on my property. I was extremely upset and was not willing to accept this. I asked that they build the shed on my property for the same price that I paid for the lot unit, or they could return my Deposit of $2242 + 5% interest (it had been in a well performing mutual fund), $500 for my husband's missed day of work and $400 to recover the cost of hiring the team to remove and replace the fence two times. For a total of $3254.10. At the present time, Jesse will not accept our calls. He promised a district manager would call, but no one has contacted us. I attempted to contact the corporate headquarters both by email and phone (I waited on hold for over an hour) and have not heard back. I am so distressed by the lack of care and customer service, I have placed a bad review on every possible social media site. My husband is also an executive with Dell and he has been very vocal with the people at Dell about the terrible experience we've had. I have also filed a claim with the better business bureau. Jesse told is that they would simply refund our deposit, but that isn't acceptable. We've lost money, time and most of all pie trust in what seemed to be a reputable company. read more

The experience and result with Tuff Shed was definitely NOT good even though Jason and Barbara tried to give excellent customer service. They were always professional and timely with a response. My garage totaling almost $33K is poorly built. I have dozens of pics showing terrible carpentry. They actually built the outside stairs coming straight down and sticking out into the drive almost 3 feet! I had to ask for that to be corrected because someone might accidentally run over them. Mitering overall is horrible, nails are pounded half in and bent over, the outside stairs to the 2nd level are tilted (you can feel it when walking on them), numerous boards are cracked (poor quality wood?), the frames around the dormer windows were an eye sore and one of the spindles on the stairway was way shorter than all of the others. I asked that it be switched with a piece of wood on the back side, so it wouldn't be as noticeable. Upon completion, debris (cigarette butts, nails, plastic, etc) was left for me to clean up. I have pics of that, also. Each time workers arrived they were never the same people, though that shouldn't matter, but one man brought his kids on a Saturday. I'm hoping the outside stairs won't need to be replaced in a few years. To say I'm really disappointed is an understatement. Clearly, these weren't experienced carpenters. You have to learn somewhere, but not at the customer's expense. I held off giving a bad review, but finally decided to. Now I'm paying a substantial amount of money for shoddy work. We purchased our shed through Home Depot back in October. Initially, all started out well. Then the problems began when it came time to build the shed. Our install was rescheduled several times and then getting people to come out and fix small issues such as huge missed painted areas and a hole in the siding provided by Tuff Shed took forever. They also got paint on a small deck area next to the shed, which ruined the appearance of the deck. I would gladly have provided a tarp or something if they had asked. But, I also thought that professionals would take a little bit more care in their work, too. Silly me. Today was the last straw when I went out to my backyard to do some work and noticed the molding on the back of the shed already coming away from the shed. It was only put on last month! Needless to say, the quality of the shed is good. However, the workmanship and customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Buy the shed if you want a good quality shed, but leave the installation to someone else. I don't mind paying good money for a quality shed, however if the workmanship is less then quality, the shed will suffer and not last as long as it's supposed to. I really felt like nothing more than an afterthought to this company after we signed the contract. I think he's name is lucano or something to that nature. He drove 3 hours one way to deliver the material to build the shed. I expected a crew of guys but only one gentleman in his 50's or older showed up. I was shocked to learn this man was the entire crew. It's july in texas and it's really hot but this man didn't miss a beat! He had the shed up and together in a few hours and loaded and ready to go back home (3 hour drive) I was so impresses with this man's work ethic and demeanor that I had to say something. I have to agree with David's post. I am confused at the low rating for Tuff Shed. I just purchased the pro series modern studio 10x20 and I am blown away by my experience. Luckily I did not Yelp their review prior to visiting the Buda location because if I had I may have had reservations. I am guessing the negative reviews are for people who have purchased from third party stores. Not only did Sherry give me amazing service at the Buda location but I was able to completely customize my shed (which I am using for an office space in my backyard). When I showed up she walked me through the model and we discussed all of my options. She answered all of my questions and made sure to give me what I wanted all while keeping within my budget. They were able to order, deliver and install my studio in less than 1 week. In fact, while I was waiting to confirm my order I watched as the employee called 4 different stores to make sure they were able to get the style door I wanted. He patiently waited on line for several minutes each time searching until he found one that was available. On the day the workers arrived it was raining slightly but the two gentlemen who came were not phased and started working immediately. I had to actually ask them to please take a lunch break at one point or they probably would have worked straight through the day. These guys checked, measured, leveled everything with extreme accuracy. Trust me I watched them the entire time making sure as this was a big purchase for me and I wanted to make sure no corners were cut. They wrapped up at 5pm on the dot and made sure to walk me through for an inspection to make sure I felt good about everything. In fact, they were actually accosted by my neighbors upon leaving asking how they could also get a shed like mine. I am in the process of finishing out the interior myself but I can tell you first hand that these sheds are built to last. I could not be more pleased with my investment. I use the term "shed" loosely here because this is actually going to more like a mini house when we are finished. I felt the need to write this review because of the previous comments. Stick to the large Tuff Shed showrooms like the one in Buda rather than buying from big box home improvement stores and you will see this company delivers. I felt compelled to write after seeing the low ratings from other reviews and can't stress enough how positive my experience has been from top to bottom on my shed purchase. I bought my shed during the Austin home and garden show at the convention center directly from Toughshed so I didn't buy it from homedepot. From start to finish it was a great experience. I worked with Sherry on the design and changed it several times until it was perfectly customized for my needs. I saw a cheaper one Costco is selling but I can't stress the difference in quality of materials. Starting from the steel frame the shed is built on to the custom options. I added double doors, two windows with shutters option, had the shingles, paint and trim perfectly matched to my home. These things aren't cheap but if you can afford higher end things this is the only way to go. The crew (Cole/James) that built my shed on site were absolutely solid from start to finish... they put it together perfectly and spent so much time touching up all the details it was above and beyond what I expected. My shed looks amazing! I'll upload a couple of pics but if you want a great experience then go to the company directly... I am SO HAPPY with how well it came out and how smooth the whole process was. After doing some research, I decided to get a shed from Tuff Shed. I really like the steel frame/foundation better than treated lumber. It's very stout and galvanized, so rust should not be a problem. The door has a steel frame also, so there should never be a issue with it drooping. If you did not know, there are 2 sources for Tuff Shed, the factory stores and the Home Depot. The Home Depot models offer the shortest warranty time. These buildings are pre-fabricated in Buda and assembled on your site. You may be able to pick up a Tuff Shed assembled display model at the Home Depot cheaper, but there is NO warranty, and I think there are going to be big problems moving an assembled building. An assembled building is going to be prone to be damaged when moving it. Maybe the Tuff Shed stores also has assembled display models for a little less, but I would stay away from those for the same reasons as not buying Home Depot TuffShed display models. The display models at the Tuff Shed store and at the Home Depot have lots of extras, windows, window trim, shelves, extra big doors and additional doors. The standard models you buy have no extras, unless you order them and pay for them. When their factory is making the shed, the extras are added. There are specials they offer all the time for the extras, like two for the price of one this or half price for this extra or that. I wanted something simple for storage. I ordered the model with radiant barrier on the interior walls and ceiling and 7 year warranty. Only functional extras I ordered was the ridge vent, and upgraded shingles (lifetime warranty on shingles vs 20 year shingles). I also opted for the building to be painted. One coat at the factory when it is being prefabricated, another coat of paint at the install. I figured the amount of coverage, and cost of paint was most of the charge for them to paint it. I plan on adding a couple of vents (I will place them low so there is good air circulation from the floor to the ceiling ridge vent) and a 14" x 21" window (I will place it high for some day light inside). When I ordered the building, I wanted to pay by credit card. They took my credit card, but did not charge me then. The day after I ordered the building, I was called to set a day for the installation. the installation day was less than a week after I ordered the building. They called first on the install day, then showed up on time. In less than 4 hours, I had a new fresh painted shed. They used PPG paint, which is good, and it did not look watered down (a cheap contractor trick to save money by using less paint). I signed a release, saying the building was satisfactory. I got a call, asking if I liked the building, if everything was good. Later that day, I got a call, asking me to authorize payment of the credit card. I liked the building, the people I was dealing with, and the process. There were more things for me to store, so I bought a second building. Same process. I think the installation day was set for 3 or 4 days after ordering it. On the install day, there was a mix-up. After the workers had erected the pre-fab building, they discovered they had been given the wrong color paint for the exterior walls. They would have to come back sometime. They completed the building except for the paint. I did not sign the release form. The very next morning they called, saying they were on their way if I was available, and they would paint/finish the building. They arrived as expected, painted the exterior, asked me to inspect the work and sign the release form. I suggested a little touch up here and there, no problem. I asked the main worker on the first building how many he has put up, but he did not know, maybe a thousand or more. When the worker returned to finish the paint, I asked how many he had put up, he told me over 500. All the people I have talked to from Tuff Shed have been very courteous and helpful. Maybe it is better to buy in the fall or winter. The installer told me they get real busy during the summer time. It is like that with a lot of things, buy a boat, motorcycle, convertible, air conditioner during the winter to get better prices, faster service. I think the person that gave the low rating bought a display model without warranty, had it delivered assembled. Why would a new Tuff Shed need a new roof? For me, I recommend Tuff Shed read more

Im so glad I cancelled my order with Home Depot. After seeing lots of negative reviews and poor customer service I decided to cancel my $2000 order. I tried 3 times to schedule an installation date but no one returned my call. I cannot imagine what it would be like if the construction was not done correctly, trying to get a hold of someone to fix the problem would be a nightmare. I would stay away from Tuff Shed and so should Home Depot being an agent for these guys. read more

We purchased a 10' x 12' Tuff Shed last year. The selection process, while a little overwhelming, was helped somewhat by their website. The site could use a bit more user-friendliness however we found it easier to learn about the options then call a salesperson to complete the transaction. The sales staff (Timothy) was friendly and communicated well via phone and email. The delivery / scheduled build date was off by a day due to weather only. They showed up the following day and built the shed in about 6 hours. The shed arrives in pre-built sections that are assembled on site. As for the shed itself, the frame, roof, ridge vents, windows and walls/sides are good and solid as is the door. If anything about the shed could be improved, it would be the door which is solid and swings great on its hinges however it refuses to stay. Even a light draft will swing it closed. A little annoying so a door tensioner of some type is needed. We use a stake to hold it in place now. Another item is the floor, which is a coated plywood. I think it's about 1/2" but I would have opted for a thicker plywood of at least 1". Cost-wise, Tuff Shed is priced about 5-10% higher than home improvement stores we looked at but the quality, options or configurations were better than big box stores. Regarding prep, that is something you have to do prior to their arrival. We semi-demolished our old shed and left it on the lawn which they hauled away for $100. It is offered as a service but raking/grading the area wasn't that bad so we did it ourselves. They will grade up to 4" if needed. We purchased a tuff shed in San Antonio on or about 4/26/2018. I told the salesperson that I first had to have an existing shed torn down before they could install my new shed. We tentatively set up the installation for May 8 or May 9, 2 days later I received a call from their office asking if I was ready to have the shed installed. I repeated to her about having my old shed torn down and asked her if they worked on Saturdays and she said that they could get someone to work then so I told her that I wanted it installed then on May 5 th. She stated that this would be fine. On Thursday the 3rd. I called the salesman to check on the installation, he called me back and told me that the girl that does the scheduling was off but he would follow up on Friday and let me know. On Saturday, no one showed up, no notification from anyone, they just didn't show up for the installation. Then I scheduled the installation for Wednesday, May 9 th. Guess what, no one came then either. Supposedly the installer had bronchitis. Then scheduled for Saturday again, May 12, got a call Saturday that the installer would not be here. Now I am getting infuriated. Talked to a manager and he told me they would install today, Monday, May 14th and would be here no later than 10 to 10:30 am. Just got a call from the installer that he would be here this afternoon. Will have to wait and see if they pull the same stunt again. To make a long story short, the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is supposed to do in this company. Their communications with customers is pathetic. I will never use or recommend this company to anyone. Beware what they tell you. This rating is on their customer service and not on the building since it hasn't been installed yet. read more

Terrible service terrible construction, just a horrible experience with these people, had a shed installed 3 weeks ago, first it was not completed upon further inspection I found that the joints were not properly sealed, one side of the sheds siding was not secured to the studs and are bowing outwards ,the other side of the shed the siding was not matched up...I have called them repeatedly I am told someone will come a fix it then no one ever shows up... read more
