For $5.99 you get a 6" taco that's filled with lots of protein and onions cilantro lime and salsa. A bit on the pricey side but it is quite delicious. On the weekends they have barbacoa de borrego meat only. Quick service. Fresh produce available as well. They also have meat and marinated meat as well for sale. The service is horrible. The ladies have no manners. They are rude. I would rather go to your other location on El Toro Rockfield, where their manners are a lot better this location they don't care if you're waiting in line or what you need and when you're ready to buy something at the cashier they make you wait and they're talking. This is why I don't come to this location ever you guys need to do a better job and getting people with better customer service. read more

Frequent Customer If you ever feel like you want to make a Mexican dish and/or pick up lunch while you have to go grocery shopping for your Mexican themed dinner, stop at Tula. Tula is pretty small but it is super efficient with their space. There are freshly made tortillas, hot and ready to elevate your dishes in store for super cheap. There is a lot to choose from in the deli section (premartinated or not). I like to make Korean BBQ, so I can get more meat here than at a Korean market for 1/2 the price. Just communicate with the butcher and he will give you the cut that you need. Here are some steps to make a successful/less stressful trip to Tula especially if you are ordering takeout: -As soon as you enter, grab a number. -Depending how quickly they can make your order, it pays to pull a number and hang out for a little until you place your order. -Go Grocery shopping to help compliment that chips & salsa you were planning on making/bringing. The service seems to be really nice and helpful when I have come here in the past. I accidentally stumbled upon this little market. I had remembered someone telling me about Pico Pica hot sauce so thought I'd check and see if they had it in here. They certainly did. Their Tapatio sauce in a regular sized bottle was only 59 cents!! They also have a selection of marinated meats and cuts for carne asada. It would help to know Spanish, but by pointing and using my fingers and my limited Spanish, I still managed to get my message across. After years of driving by and never going into this location I decided to give it a shot. They have a limited selection but definitely all of the necessities. Meat, poultry, cheese, etc is all fresh and reasonably priced. Not to mention if your just looking for a hot meal they have that as well. On my way to the airport I quickly Yelped tamales to bring home to Hawaii. Tula Markets was one of the closest with good reviews, so I stopped by and took a quick look around. There were so much to take in. Great place to shop if you're making Mexican food. Prices were good. It's a small market, but looks like they would have the things you'll need, if you can't find them, the staff if friendly and helpful. I ordered a dozen mixed of the chicken and the pork tamales, and to have it wrapped good so I can travel with them. When I arrived home, I counted and there were only 11 tamales. Doh!!! It's a small market but extremely clean! Kate T. and I were wondering around and happen to stumble upon this place. I wanted to check it out to see if they had any specialty items and if they had the elusive Guarana soda. Sadly, they did not carry it =*( They have a meat case that looked interesting. I am tempted to try their hot foods maybe one day. There wasn't anything out of the ordinary with the products they carry. Everything was nicely priced and Kate T. got some seasonings. I stumbled upon a sign for Tamales and I wanted to buy some, unfortunately they only sell them on Saturdays and Sundays. I will have to come back so that I can give their food a try and definitely try the tamales! I've been to Tula Market on El Toro a few times for spices and other items that I can't find most places It is cute, clean, well-stocked, and I like the produce. As a market, I give this place 4 stars. However, today I decided to try their hot food. I wanted to try the tamales, which were advertised as being available on weekends. They didn't have any. Then I couldn't decide what I wanted, so I ordered a small menudo, small rice, and small beans, all of which turned out to be SUPER BLAND. I tried to "fix" each of these items at home to no avail. This beats the hell out of that random taco stand across from the Mission down in San Juan Capistrano!!! Drove on in for a burrito when I read that they had mole. Pretty small market, but super-clean and organized. Cashiers on the right, fruits and vegetables on the left with the carniceria taking up about 2/3 of the rear. Lots of different cuts of meat! Next time I am throwing a true fiesta I will no doubt return for some carne. I got the mole with chicken. Mexican rice (!), refried beans, onions with cilantro, and some mole splashed on. The flavor of the chicken was sort of lost, but I guess mole tends to do that. The burrito was very filling, though: very much the result of the heavy dose of rice and beans...could have dealt with less of each and will probably request so next time. Too much like a plate of food in a tortilla! I'll stick to my knife-and-fork enjoyment of mole foods. I will return for some carne asada, maybe in a torta for kicks. They sell homemade tortillas too. I bought some. And of course, Mexican Coke (but not the awesome 1L bottles). As far as the ethnic barrier goes, speaking English was not a huge obstacle though the longer I stood around the more I began to feel like I should have busted out my laughably broken Spanish. Not impressed at all, the market is fine but the cooked food looked terrible - thrown into containers for display, food dripped/stained counters, just unappealing. This was around 11:00am on Friday (12/28/18), two people in line for food. I kept walking, I couldn't bring myself to purchase the ready made food. When checking out of the market the cashier didn't speak any English and couldn't/wouldn't answer my question about the bagged (unmarked) peanuts - the nicest guys are behind the meat section and talked to the customer about the meat. read more

Did they just move? Stmubled over by Ross on Rockfield and saw Tula Market in the same plaza. This Tula was much bigger than the other one. They have a hot food section. Got a carne asada burrito - it was good. They add mexican rice complete with carrot and peas, and cilantro and onion. They give you a chili paste-like salsa on the side that really hits the spot, like sambal, but less garlicy and salty - more earthy. I enjoyed the burrito and was impressed by the store. They have a carneceria there, and like 20 different cuts of beef. Some interesting stuff like the honeycomb tripe. Would go back if in area and needed a hot meal on the go, or some traditional mexican food stuffs. read more

I'm really confused with all the good reviews on the food. I got a carnitas bowl and the only good things about it was the portion size and guacamole. Taste of the food is completely lacking. The rice was salty and the meat had way too much fat and bad parts still attached to it. They charge for pico de gallo. I mean are you kidding me? Tula used to be my main mex grocery, but I find their produce to be more expensive than neighboring markets. they are also quite small with a limited selection. Still my favorite carne asada in the area, but now it's eight bucks a pound. Their to go foods are quite good, the posole being my favorite. Best real Mexican food and Market ! They have another store near rockfield . We have loved these people who work here and the food here for so Many years I can't remember . We get burritos and fresh fried chips, guacamole, carne asada by the pound and even the fresh cheese in the case . We love the carnitas by the pound too, and rice by the half sheet pan. Anything u get here u will love. My hubby loves the Friday special Chile rellenos . So glad to come here and now get all these Mexican foods I used to make myself. If you love real Mexican food like we do , come here for tacos, burritos , Chile rellanos, fresh chips to order, salsa and they can make you enough to cater a Party or enough to feed a family! The food is awesome but the service was so sad......that is if your white. I grew up basically Hispanic my step dad who raised me is Hispanic my husband is Hispanic I love everything about the culture. But the employees here defiantly treat you differently. Me and a friend (who is Hispanic)waited in line for the Food for about 30min we only pulled one ticket and when it was my turn she didn't want to take my order , my friend who was is awe quickly stepped in and said we are ordering together and she still was hesitant to take my order, finally she did but she clearly saw me waiting there patiently smiling and didn't give 2 shits. Ordered two different burritos, barbacoa and carne asada. When I got home I tried my barbacoa and it just tasted too sweet and was not good tasting. I tried the carne asada burrito and the meat tasted old like it was sitting for a long time. The burritos coated almost 16 bucks. I will not come back and was disappointed. read more

I hover between 4 and 5 stars. I haven't gone to the other location (but was told they sold chicharrone there), the selection is limited. No chicharrone really wrecked my day (and my mofongo plan :( . I love the fresh tacos (I love their lengua--it is so tender, it melts in your mouth). They have great rice, beans and carne asada. I always grab some fresh warm tortillas and their produce is always inexpensive and good. It is great to run in and grab the essentials and not spend more than 20.00! read more
