We reserved a table for 20 which cost $150 added to our bill (total table I'm guessing was over $1500 probably more ‍ since just my portion of 6 people was $525 before tip) to reserve the table in a room so I would've expected that the fee would've included more than 1 waiter. The waiter gets a 5 star review from us because I felt so bad for her to have to do EVERYTHING alone for 20 people and she was kind & tried her very best to do a good job but it's humanly impossible for 1 person to serve 20 people ordering appetizers, cocktails AND meals. Just the task of bringing waters to the table took her 4 trips so imagine all the cocktails & refill requests!! We were there 2 HOURS before eating! Thank goodness the food was good and the company was even better so we enjoyed our evening but shame on Tunks manager/owners for not preparing better for a busy Friday night that included a wedding party reservation for 20 that they knew about way ahead of time so could've prepared accordingly. The place needs to be renovated really bad! I appreciated the nostalgia of stepping back into time when life was simpler but the overall feeling is a bit dirty and the bottom deck had soft spots, the concrete walkway out to the lawn had sunken areas so be careful and the cats were begging while the carpenter bees were feasting! The scenery is beautiful at sunset and was a perfect spot to take pictures. The cocktails were good but had very little alcohol so we switched to beer. The beer prices are CHEAP! $4 for a Stella appetizers were huge and the prices were good, only $15 for 3 huge full plates so can feed a lot of hungry people while waiting on what seemed like forever to order. I'd go back if in the area since the food was good but since I'm out of town most likely wouldn't drive just to come for dinner. I highly suggest if paying for the private room and arriving with a lot of people to make sure you request 2-3 servers so you're not there for 4 hours! read more

I haven't been to this restaurant in over 20 years so it's great to see that it is still going strong and survived the pandemic unlike a lot of businesses, and also still has the same great quality food that I remembered from my childhood even with my more mature adult palate. I came with my dad and husband on a Saturday right when they opened at 4:30 and we were promptly seated (the oyster bar downstairs looked like it was already pretty busy!) We were seated by the window in the dining room when you first walk in so I had a beauty beautiful view of the lake, swamp trees and birds, and sunset while I ate! We were greeted by a sweet blonde curly waitress (I don't think she said her name) and quickly served our drinks of choice. I chose sweet tea because I was in the deep south and they make it the best! For our appetizer we shared the Shrimp en Brochette with waffle fries. Overall the stuffed shrimp were very good and fresh, although I may ask them to cook the bacon a little harder next time. THE SAUCES were the star of the show, so much so that I dipped the waffle fries in all of them. No clue what they were, but my best guess is a Parmesan cream sauce, melted butter sauce with a hint of lemon, and some sort of brown sugar or caramel sauce with black pepper. The brown sauce and the Parmesan cream sauce were my absolute favorite and I could not get enough of them! I even got my dad hooked to dipping the waffle fries in the brown sauce! I had the Snapper Ponchartrain for my entrée with garlic mashed potatoes, and a side salad with homemade thousand island dressing. Both sides were very good. The salad was fresh and served in a chilled bowl, the mashed potatoes were perfectly whipped in garlicky buttery goodness, and the bread was reminiscent of a beignet without the powder sugar! Again, the homemade sauces for the salad and the fish were the stars of the show! The fish was delicious and fresh however, I feel like it could not compete with my taste of the Snapper Sandy that my dad got! I am definitely ordering that cheesy goodness next time I am there! For dessert, I had the bread pudding to go! The only thing I would do differently is ask for the sauce on the side, but the bread pudding was delicious and nice and saucy by the time I had it at home! Again, another sauce star! Tunks is a locally owned restaurant and for that reason and the blueberry pie I keep coming back. First off it's in a beautiful location on Kincaid lake. I've always wondered why they don't update the interior because it just doesn't match the vibe. It's very casual and it's one of the only places in this city where you can get seafood in a sit down, almost nice environment. I think the fried shrimp is the best thing on the menu but most will say the snapper in a bag. It's also very creamy and flavorful and if you have not tried it l, you should. I will say I've had good servers who have been there a while and I've also had terrible service. It's not always consistent. I'm not a fan of so many things I've tried on the menu but that never keeps me from going back. It's a place that if you grew up going to you will always love going back and that's the magic of this place. read more

We called Tunks to inquire about making a reservation for two, but they informed us that they do not take reservations. We then asked if it would be busy on that Saturday night, and they replied that there would be no wait to be seated. Ten minutes later, we arrived at Tunks and found a very long waiting list. We were told it would be at least a half-hour wait, which was surprising. We waited outside for more than thirty minutes in the 94-degree heat before being seated at our table. However, after twenty minutes, we had not even received water. We needed hydration after being out in the heat for that long. Interestingly, when we initially walked up, we noticed a couple who appeared to have been sitting at their table for a considerable amount of time, and just as we were leaving, we saw that their food was finally being served. I wonder how long it took for that to happen. Some people must enjoy Tunks since there was a decent crowd there, but we decided to eat elsewhere. That night at Tunks, we left, politely informed the maitre d' of our departure, who apologized. We then opted for some Mexican food instead. read more

I went there for our 38th wedding anniversary. I ordered the angel hair with shrimp. I thought my dish was rather bland. I loved the fried bread!! Always, I took my leftovers home, in which there was a lot left over, there was a metal scrubby piece of wire about an inch long that go mixed up with my food. Service was great!! My husband's meal was great.... mine was left wanting and I never did finish it because of the metal. And I LOVED looking a the lake!!! read more

Tunks is a beautiful spot by the water. We ate downstairs and we're the only ones there besides the bar. The Service was very nice and accurate, but a little slow. We had to remember we were in the south and be patient. The blackened gator bites were a great starter, especially just to try something new. It tastes like chicken! One of my party ordered the Gator Parm and said it was amazing. I had delicious and well priced oysters followed by a bowl of gumbo and loved every bite. 10/10 would eat here again when I have the chance. read more

Great place. Brought a group of 16 here for dinner on a Friday night. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I got the Snapper Sandy which comes prepared in a brown paper bag. The fish was tasty and came covered in a cream sauce with pieces of crab, shrimp, and crawfish. The service was fantastic. I did like the ambiance and the food, however I just think it was a little to expensive for the amount of food given and quality. Ordered red snapper blackened, was tasty and garlic potatoes... wish they had backed potatoes. Wasn't many side choices. The drinks were just so overpriced, this is reason for 4 stores. I ordered tea... how much is the bag to make the tea that customers have such a mark up? Restaurant is making at least 200 percent profits on than... no worries I'll get water next visit. I arrived in Alexandria on a Monday evening and immediately starting thinking about sucking heads... of crawfish (you pervs!!). But for some reason most of the crawfish places are closed Monday nights. Nooo! My hotel recommended Tunk's. I called to make sure they were open. Not only were they, but they had Monday-only all you can eat crawfish special going for under $25! Now, this seemed pricey to me, but what do I know? (more to come on this with later reviews...) My Garmin took me to an abandoned field next to an abandoned gas station (Gladys was a bit out of sorts this entire LA trip though). I called again, and they guided me home. I was daunted by the dozens (and dozens) of cars parked haphazardly all over the place. Then the inside of the place is huge... and loud. And packed full of people and crawfish. Oh mama! AYCE crawfish includes a trip to the salad bar plus a cob of corn and a potato in your crawfish pile. My first heaping pile of crawfish arrived, and I ordered a sweet tea to wash it down. The seasoning was mild, probably a requirement when you're a family-type place, but tasty. I'm embarrassed to say I ate 7lbs of crawfish that night (4lbs in the first plate... and...a hefty 3lbs in the second). But I wasn't alone. Most people got 2-3 platters each. I went to this restaurant after 6 years and was extremely disappointed in the food I got. The food was not good at all and lacking in flavor and quality. I ordered a pound of shrimp, that came out and did not look like a found. Also a lot of the shrimp was over cook and tough to eat. I will not be returning to this restaurant ever again. Met 2 of our dear friends from Simpson here for supper The one noticeable thing missing right off was that the great salad bar was gone- probably due to the Covid mess With that exception all else was simply the same Our waitress, Angel- was delightful- she was an ANGEL! Not only was she pretty - she was punctual- personable & professional- And the food was exceptional We had fried crab claws for a starter - they were SPOT ON I tried the crawfish Etoffee - it was a monstrous serving so right off the bat I asked Angel to take 1/2 and box it up for our friends to take home!! My buddy tried the special - the crawfish bisque and let me have a sample- the taste was scrumptious and for his main course he had the catfish platter - with the fish being fried crispy- he said they were delicious His wife tried the Etoffee as I did- both served with a small side salad which were as good as I remember the salad bar of old The place was very clean as it has always been and I was delighted to be able to visit one of our old favorite places and see it still thriving and doing good You never want to be biased when you do a review of a place of business and always try and be very objective That all said - being very objective and my old conservative self I give Angel and Tunks an 8 on the Yelp Scale of 1-5 And applaud Jim Bo and his family and staff for maintaining such a great place since I guess the mid 70's WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT!! Tunk's was a nice local place to try while I was in Alexandria. We called ahead and reserved a table because we had 15 in our group. They were happy to have us! It was nice because these days it is hard to find a restaurant that will let you do a reservation for that many. On a Saturday night at 8pm, they actually weren't packed. I had the steak and seasonal vegetables. My food was good, but I wasn't blown away. I ordered a medium steak (I always struggle with whether or not to order medium or medium rare!) and it was definitely well done (no pink). The veggies were good, and I especially liked the little piece of fried bread (there's a name for it that I can't remember) that came with the meal. Our server was friendly, but didn't go above and beyond. It took a while to get re-fills and such. If you're in Alexandria, this is a good place to go. I wouldn't make a special trip to eat there, because it was honestly kind of average, but I did enjoy my experience. read more

We decided to drive a bit further and go to Tunk's on the way out. Amazing setting with the ability to watch the water, great food, and fantastic service. Salad bar was great, fish in a bag was so good and the blueberry pie was enormous and DIVINE. That's reason enough for me to warrant another visit. read more

The location and setting are the real winners here. I advise you show up for leisurely drinks and appetizers, look at nature and maybe the sunset. The food is okay, not great and in fact I'd not come back for that. Once we ordered dinner the meal arrived nearly an hour later. The bowl of crawfish etouffe had approximately 2 ounces of crawfish. We'd have expected double or triple that amount ($17.95). I ordered the lauded "Sandy" platter. The fish arrived steaming hot, with a small amount of snapper (smaller the the palm of my hand and very thin) in an over abundance of melted cheese. This should have been a good turn on but the massive amount of "gravy" was just too much. I started thinking that the cheese gravy should be scooped onto crostini toast. While waiting for the food, I amused myself with the basket of stale crackers to feed the bream and turtles. Yes, I visited with my dinner partner. Later we watched the swallows feasting on bugs over the lake. While we continued to wait (should have brought a deck of cards for a game of 3-13). Lisa was our server, and she was good at her job, but service was slow. It wasn't only our table though, all tables on the patio (3 servers) had slow service. Finally there was an active DJ singer that was pretty good. I though could have appreciated the music a few decibels lower. With this location and crowd, good music wafting over the evening air send onto the water would have worked. This crowd was not ready to rock the night away. read more

This place was a gem in the middle of nowhere. And when I say I found gold I mean gold. Wow! Their sweet sticky garlic wings are out of this world. I cant stop thinking about them. You have to try them.. they are very saucy and my advice is to tell them to hold a little bit on the sauce but other than that... they are to die for. I have been here multiple times without disappointment. The two must haves here are fried Alligator and the 5 pound pan of boiled crawfish. The gator tastes like the dark meat in chicken, seriously. The crawfish is light, buttery and very good. It's frustrating to work so hard for such as small portion that is edible in each crawfish, but it is literally a bucket that should be on your list! We were the first customers to arrive at 4PM when they open the doors. The place is a little run down but a typical Louisiana seafood joint with animals and fish on the walls. We knew what we wanted before sitting down... CRAWFISH. It had been 2 years since the last time I had crawfish so I was really looking forward to this meal. I heard the season was bad so I didn't expect large crawfish but Tunk's definitely delivered. The crawfish were seasoned to perfection. I got the regular which are perfect if you like things spicy.
