Turners has a bad reputation because of the needlessly complex compliance processes that make it a very drawn out process. But this location is fantastic although they follow the same processes. Cort and other employees are friendly, helpful, and efficient. You can get in and out in thirty minutes on a weekday. Prices are generally competitive and they have a solid selection. read more

Everyone is nice here, and the prices were good. However, the low rating is exclusively due to their policy when the DOJ issues an "undetermined" status on the background. California and its DOJ are compromised to radical ideologies; consequently, they make it difficult for citizens to exercise their 2nd Amendment fundamental right. On my background, the DOJ issued an "undetermined" status, meaning they will neither approve nor deny my legal right to possess. Turner's policy is that they will refund your money, minus the background fees, but they will not sell you the firearm in this scenario even though they have the explicit authority to do so. The incompetence of the DOJ is astounding, as I clearly have full rights to possess. I ended up choosing another shop whose policy is to release when status is undetermined; however, it was unnecessary because the DOJ, this time, approved the sale just like they should have the first time. There is no excuse for a shop to deny your 2nd Amendment right just because the DOJ can't determine a status. If they can't determine, then the sale should go through. It's never okay to deny the Constitution. The rebuttal is that a firearm could get into the hands of a criminal. The rebuttal to the rebuttal is that the DOJ should actually do its job. Hidden gem. For my first experience at the store, surprised to find how much was in the store. Strictly hunting, fishing and plenty of accessories to support these hobbies. Will definitely be back. I haven't set foot into a gun store for close to 30 years so I was a little unsure how the process would go. The sales people walked me through the firearms safety exam process. I can't compare the customer service with other gun shops but I can saw that I bought 2 pistols on 2 occasions from this shop in less than 3 months. The knowledge of the sales person varies which is true for any place. They are sticklers for gun safety as they should be, always being careful to check the gun to ensure it is unloaded prior to handing it to a customer. Similarly, they instruct customers to exercise muzzle safety in the store even though the guns are unloaded. Keep in eye out for their sales to get the best prices. read more

0 Stars if it was possible, Waited there for almost an hour just to even get helped cause of lack of employees, I asked to see one of their pistols and I asked If I could handle and function the firearm and he gave me a "sure" Handled the firearm pointed at a safe direction and wanted to test out the trigger, made sure it was clear and racked the slide multiple times to make sure. Tested the trigger reset by Pulling the trigger, racking the slide and testing the reset "wall" on an OBVIOUSLY cleared firearm. The dude quickly took it from me and acted like I was a safety risk. I purchased my first gun here, but the experience was disappointing. I had already done my research and knew exactly what I wanted, so I didn't need much assistance. However, the two employees with big beards were unfriendly and seemed uninterested in helping. Their answers were brief, and it felt like they didn't value my business. When I picked up my gun, I asked for a rundown on gun safety, but he told me he didn't have time--even though the store was completely empty. DON'T SHOP HERE! I will NEVER again return to Turner's Outdoorsman! I purchased what I was told, a Glock 19 here. Subsequently, I purchased 2 magazines for it....for the "19." When I discovered that they didn't sell me a 19, but instead a 17 (both pistols look alike). When I discovered that they then sold me a 17, they refused to do an exchange....the wrongly purchased "19" magazines for a "17" magazines. First of all, the Glock 17 was sold to me as a Glock 19. I went to this store because highly recommended. I needed a magazine for Glock 43 I brought the magazine that I needed with me to show the sales ass.? He sold me a magazine for a clock 19. When I took it back to them they would have made me happy to tell me no receipt no refund or exchange I would have said ok. But Manager jerks may chain. I paid $20 for each he wanted to give $13 for one and $15 for the other. I said forget it and left. My bad lost my temper. He just lost a customer. read more

I've been a novice gun collector for a few years now; needless to say, I've had quite a bit of experience with stores and people who sell firearms. In general, I think most people who get into this business do so with the right spirit, but that seems to change over time. The most 'salty' customer service I ever get always seems to come from a gun store. So much so, that I've often thought of getting my own FFL license and starting my own boutique gun buying experience. I'm very happy to say that this is not the experience I've had with Turner's Outdoorsman in Lake Forest.... This is due in no small part to the store manager, Jim Jarvis. To be honest, I always have a good experience at this Turner's location, but recently made a phone call to ask about the availability of a rifle I've been looking for. The run on ammo and guns, combined with covid and politics, have made these guys very busy. But on this phone call, Jim simply gave me all the time and attention that I needed. He calmly answered my questions, asked me questions... basically, treated me with respect and customer service that is rare at any store, let alone a gun store. I visited the location over the weekend and Jim again took the time to meet and treat me like a valued customer... all the while keeping a watching eye on the store and looking for issues that needed to be resolved ;) Turner's is lucky to have a store manager like Jim, and that level of friendly, helpful service is what will keep me coming back over and over again. Unacceptably and inexcusably awful service. Ordered and paid for a firearm before the stay at home order went into effect. Received notification that firearm had shipped to store and that was it. Impossible to get any communication on further steps or latest status of order. No one ever answers phone or responds to email. Yes I am certainly aware that these are special circumstances, but out of the dozens of businesses I've dealt with in March 2020, this is the only one that is a complete failure and gets a 0. I am sure they are desperate for things to return to normal, as we all are. Failure to step up and provide even minimal communication or accommodations under tough times means they don't deserve any business during normal times. read more

I called ahead to check if Turner's can still facilitate online firearms purchases as the receiving FFL. Was informed that unfortunately, this service was no longer provided. The gent on the phone recommended another local Mom & Pop shop that would be able to accommodate me, and for a lower price too. He even took the time to answer questions about inventory and availability. Sportsmans Warehouse and Bass Pro employees take notice - that's what true customer service should look like. As you all know, buying a gun these days can be a tedious experience. Almost all the sales people are currently involved with other folks inside the store. Just getting anyone to answer the phone may take half a day. Finding out anything regarding the item you are interested can be quite frustrating on both party's part. I recently contacted Turners in Lake Forest, CA about a gun they had on their consignment list. The young lady that answered the phone was a breath of fresh air. She advised me that everyone at the gun counter was busy. She asked me what I needed and I told her. I asked her a couple of questions, After hearing what I needed she went to talk to her manager. She came back in a few minutes and advised me that she had spoken to her manager. Haley had gotten her manager to set the gun aside for me until I could get there the next day. We set a time and I thanked her. Next day I went up to Lake Forest at the appointed time. Haley was working with another customer, and advised that me was just finishing up, and would be with me shortly. When she finished up, she went back to get the pistol, I reviewed it and committed to buy. She got the paperwork, I filled in some information, paid for it. Now waiting for the wait period to be over. I have been looking for this particular pistol for some time, and Haley made it happen. I have bought several from Turner's over the years, and never been disappointed with any purchases. In with dealing, and Haley, Turner's, Lake Forest, the never been disappointment continues.
