The most important thing to know about the Turning Point is that in the morning you should most definitely expect to wait for a table. The place is always busy and there is almost always a guaranteed wait time of at least 15 minutes minimum. That being said, the wait is definitely worth your time. The food is absolutely delicious and the portions are generally very large. I am especially fond of the pancakes and french toast. Make sure you get an order of the breakfast potatoes as well, they are an excellent addition to any order. The prices are slightly higher then I would like to pay, however they are typical for Pier Village. The beverages, especially the fresh squeezed OJ, are especially pricey. Especially considering that the OJ is squeezed by a machine that they wheel into the parking garage behind the restaurant and squeeze them in the parking garage! Don't believe me? Take a walk back there and see for yourself. The parking situation in Pier Village is absolutely horrible. On street parking is basically non existent unless you get there before 10am, and even then it can be difficult to find a spot sometimes. Your best bet would be to pay to use the parking garage that is located directly behind the turning point and then get your parking pass validated so that your money is refunded. read more

Went this morning for a hangover breakfast. It may have been a drunk breakfast, it's a little hazy. What I do remember is this: Turning Point breakfast is made for drinkers like me. My friend and I arrive to the table that already has a pitcher of water on it. Best thing to see. Then you get to have awesome coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. I also had chocolate milk. Now for the food: I had a breakfast burrito and my friend had huevos rancheros. The breakfast burrito is filled with a ton of eggs, peppers and onions. I opted for no churizo. There was a lot of moving around, confusion, latecomers, food restrictions, but the servers were all calm and collected despite the already Sunday brunch rush. In a word: mediocre. I've been here several times, both eating in the restaurant and to pick up take out. There is inevitably a wait for a table - not necessarily due to demand, but possibly mismanagement of the hostess staff... I suggest calling ahead to be placed on the wait list for a table. If picking up a take out order, be prepared to wait as the hostess staff will struggle to (1) find your order and (2) accept payment. There's no where inside to sit while waiting for either a table or to pick up a take out order. The menu has its share of unique items that seem to rotate by season although there aren't usually any specials. Unfortunately, the food is average and the service is generally rushed and lukewarm. I'm not sure if the staff is burnt out from the crowds (especially during the summer), but they seem generally apathetic and management seems OK with the status quo. This seems evident from the kitchen to the front of the house, including the neglected, aging decor. I didn't ask for 2 lattes! I asked for a bit of milk in them and the kid behind the counter said "like a latte". So he gave me lattes. The French toast was good, but it did get very sweet. At the manalapan location, I got the crunchy monkey pancakes which were also wonderful. I also got the north shore French press coffee which was very flavorful. The food here is wonderful, the staff is very accommodating, and the ambiance is great. My family and I always love going to the Turning Point whenever we have a chance to visit the beach. Today my father fainted while we were walking up to the restaurant and stubbornly refused to go to the hospital. TP welcomed us inside and allowed us to sit in the cafe area for over an hour while my dad rested and cooled down, bringing us water, cold towels, etc. Special thanks to the young gentlemen working there today (18-Sep) -- the host, the person working behind the cafe counter, and (I think) the manager for being so attentive and so kind to us on a tough day. This seems to be the go to spot for breakfast in Long Branch. They had all your vacation breakfast favorites like Eggs Benedict, omelettes, pancakes, waffles, eggs how you want them, etc. What I really liked was the good coffee is a French press. We tried the Kona and the Costa Rican, which was better. Gets really busy at peak breakfast times. While they do have a small sandwich menu for lunch, they don't serve dinner. However, the breakfasts we had were so good and the service so friendly that we'll be back for sure. read more

Had an absolutely perfect Saturday brunch here this past weekend. I'm not from this area but were looking for a brief getaway for the morning. Turning Point pretty much specializes in pre-dinner food (8 AM - 3 PM). We had a 5 minute wait for a table for 2 - I imagine during the summertime it will be worse. The restaurant is bright and airy and Cape Cod-like, making it an ideal place to have brunch. We had the gourmet French press with the Kenya roast - great flavor. While they say it fills up 4 cups it really does 3. It was perfect for the 2 of us. We ordered the stuffed french toast which was amazing - the sweet and tangy cream cheese inside the french toast complemented the fresh blueberries and strawberry reduction on the side. We also had the lobster eggs benedict. Not only were the lobster chunks large and juicy, the small amount of spice added on top made the dish well-balanced and not too creamy or rich. In one word....DELICIOUS. The ambiance of the restaurant is great, it's very quaint and at the long branch location, you have gorgeous ocean views to look at while dining. There is a great selection of breakfast and lunch menu items from classics, to creative and savory to sweet. This was my first visit to the long branch location but my second overall. I had the French toast called "Corn Bread" it was delicious! I ate every bite and that's not typical for me. It was two pieces of their home made corn bread, with thinly sliced Granny Smith apples, sweet seasoned walnuts, vanilla bean marscapone, and caramel drizzle. This is the perfect place for breakfast, lunch or brunch on the water. There is lots of outdoor seating (as well as indoor if it's not nice out) and the food is delicious. Be prepared for a wait though. I came here with my friend today (Friday) at 10:45 and we waited 40 minutes to sit down. Besides that we loved it. I got the fresh squeezed orange juice and the lobster Benedict and they were both fantastic. The lobster Benedict had a good amount of lobster as well as bacon, avocado, cilantro, and tomato on it. It was such a creative dish and it was served with fresh fruit and potatoes. The service was great too. My friend made a lot of substitutions to her meal and they had no problem doing it, and they didn't charge her anything extra. Our bill was only $34 so the prices are definitely fair too. I asked for balsamic vinegar but they gave me balsamic vinaigrette instead so I had to ask them to change that. The salad as a whole was quite bland and didn't taste very fresh. But I shouldn't complain since this placed seemed to serve mostly hearty breakfasts and I was glad to find a vegan option at all. My husband and I wanted good coffee and Chose to make the most of the 40 minute wait by walking on the beach. We finally ordered coffee (French press) with cream. It took 10 minutes to get the coffee so it was already pressed and they ran out of cream so just gave us milk without asking. I ordered my usual Popeye skillet with eggs over easy but it came with eggs over hard and only one piece of spinach. My husband had a very dry fratata. My kids liked there waffles but otherwise we all left unhappy. Service was friendly but unhelpful when we asked why we didn't get cream, "oh yeah,were out, sorry ". We have been to the Turning Point in Westfield and wanted to see what the hype was all about in Long Branch! I was told it had a great view and a cute outdoor sitting area so I had to check it out. The server quickly took it away and replaced it with a new one. The menu is large so take some time to read all the breakfast, brunch and lunch offers they have. I ordered the lobster egg Benedict with an iced coffee and my boyfriend ordered a egg white skillet with fresh squeezed orange juice. The food took awhile to arrive and I overhear another server explaining to another table that the kitchen was backed up. I really didn't mind because the view was great! When the food arrived, it was hot and both dishes came together. However, my boyfriend's dish didn't have the egg whites he had asked for. We aren't picky and didn't want to bother the server, but when the server stopped a few minutes to check on us, she saw that it wasn't egg whites either and apologized and offer to exchange it. We didn't exchange it since we were both inhaled the meal, but it was nice of her to realize and ask! The food was exceptional. I enjoyed my plate and finished it all. So did my boyfriend. I would highly recommend this place for brunch. It's a cute place for a beach day, date or even a get together.
