This place came highly recommended rated for the Tuscaloosa area, so we had to try it for sure. Simple spot that looks like it took over for an older restaurant. They had a nice selection of pizza but the Detroit style caught my eye. We were not expecting this kind of quality in Tuscaloosa. The crust was perfectly golden and the toppings were very fresh. We ordered the Mama Mia Detroit style pizza, Caesar salad, pasta with tomato basil sauce, and brought some pistachio cheesecake and tiramisu home with us. First...I love a good thick Detroit style pizza. I've watched the Facebook videos of the garlic confit, and knew I had to try this pizza. The crust is crispy, yet super airy and pillowy. Let me preface this by saying that: I. I (the guy) do not enjoy pizza. I really don't care for pizza unless it has apples, cinnamon, and sugar on it. AND II. I've been to Sicily and Rome and I know fresh pizza! The hostess asked if we'd like to dine at the bar since there was only us two and we agreed. As soon as we sat down, our waiter (sorry I forgot his name but I'll edit it when I find the receipt) was attentive, considerate, and overall ON IT! Our waiter asked if we'd like to start off with any drinks as they had a $2 off special going on. uh, sí señor. I (Jaguar) had a lemon drop martini while my wonderful had a mule. Yes, they were delicious but what made them great was this one simple thing most restaurants fail to do consistently: they put an adequate amount of alcohol in it! More alcohol = more happy patron = more of our mulah going into patronizer's pockets, so thanks for the great drinks! We started with an appetizer of the fried ravioli and it's the greatest fried ravioli we've ever had in our short lives. The marinara sauce was FRESH. We then ordered our pizzas and they came out picture perfect and with perfect flavor and fresh crust. Anyway I'm about to eat the leftovers (I stole her's) and go to bed happy. There is something iconic about a New York slice. No disrespect to other pizzas, but it is what I grew up on and after searching for the past 20 years, I've finally found it right here in Tuscaloosa. TuscNY Pizza has the taste, texture, and foldability of a perfect NY slice. We ordered a large cheese because there are no toppings to mask the taste. It was truly perfection, we shook our heads the whole time we ate not believing we'd finally found the taste of Little Italy in a clean, cute Alabama pizzeria. We also ordered cheese bread loaded with garlic and it was delicious. The dough was perfection and could have been sold as its own product. Topped off with two wonderful cannolis we were already discussing our next trip. Did I mention we got the large cheese and it was so big we had enough leftovers for the kids at home. Reheated in the oven at 375 for 10 minutes it was as fantastic as when it was fresh out of the oven. TuscNY fed my soul not just my stomach. I can't recommend it enough. Several suggested this place so I had it on my bucket list. We finally tried it and got 3 small pizzas and a small salad. The salad dressing was good.The crusts on all 3 were thin. Not salty and had a good taste. The margarita one was pretty bland. Not much cheese. The sauce was good. The spicy one with sausage was eh. The sausage wasn't bad but it was the pizza was eh. The honey pepperoni one was the best one. The biggest disappointment was there was no bartender so they we couldn't get the "spritzer" that was advertised on a sign. Not sure if this was a Sunday thing or staffing issue. We also noticed that despite the sign advertising pizza and pasta there was very very little pasta offered on the menu. The canolli looked good but we didn't get it. It's worth a try, you may love it but for people that eat pizza too frequently we found it average. read more

BUT, that could come down to tomatoes... not the best time of the year. And if sauce is home made, as I suspect... that could be it. It will stay in our rotation... maybe i'll try a white pizza! I wish we could try it more often... but prices are a bit high. ( Another thing that can't really be helped if your using good quality ingredients). We also had the cheesecake.. which was good. And I was super excited about cannoli! They were good.. but soggy. And had a M&M on each end? If I could make a suggestion... fill the cannoli with cream when it's ordered so the shell stays crisp... and keep a bowl of slivered toasted almonds or mini choco chips to dip the ends in...
