We were just on our way out of the Avenue of the Giants and heard that Ferndale has some interesting sights. We popped into Tuyas for a mid afternoon lunch and LOVED it. Chips with the salsa were light and really good - our 1st surprise. Salsa and guacamole also very good. I got the taco salad with chicken with the cilantro ranch dressing. My wife got the chicken enchiladas with green salsa. A bit spicy but good. Overall, we wouldn't visit the town again but we definitely would highly recommend Tuyas - the 'find of the trip to Ferndale'! read more

I went for a late lunch on a Saturday. With my mother & 1 yro. We got delicious blackberry ice tea & the server brought out my daughter a little cup of fruit. ( which was super nice to keep her occupied) I ordered fish tacos with the cilantro lime sauce & my mom order carnitas street tacos! Both were great. Chips & very fresh salsa were yummy. We stopped for lunch while exploring Ferndale. Dogs are welcome at the few outside tables. The waitress couldn't have been nicer, brought our dog water and was happy and helpful. The food - the fish tacos were the best I've ever had - I opted for the battered fish with chipotle sauce - choice of tortilla (flour, yellow corn or blue corn). I cleared my plate - so good. My husband loved his chicken mole - spicy but tasty. My son had a carnitas burrito which he demolished. The Chico iced tea with blackberry syrup finished the excellent experience. I went here with my family while travelling and we were lucky to get in while dine-in service was allowed; not sure if it's now allowed due to Covid-19. Anyhow we were very pleased with the food and service at this restaurant. Loved the chips and salsa. My margarita was delicious ( a lime margarita on the rocks with salt). While we were a group of 10 it took an hour to get food once we were seated. The food is only the item listed. For example, the kids quesadilla is just that, one quesadilla cut into triangles. No beans, rice, etc. I got the fajitas and they were very disappointing. There was hardly any meat in a plate of peppers and onions. What a great dinner we just had! We're from the Bay Area --- with TONS of authentic Mexican food -- and all three of us loved what we ordered at Tuyas. The food was delicious, flavorful, and lighter than Mexican food often is. My sister -- not a vegan or vegetarian -- had the vegan burrito, and raved about it. I had the tostada -- light and tasty. My husband had the chicken chimichanga, and loved it. The decor was bright and beautiful, and the service was friendly and efficient. What a great find!! read more

Amazing! Fresh ingredients, tastes authentic, had La Tax (sp?) appetizer it was ok. The topping was good. Also had grilled and fried versions of classic fish tacos. Scrumptious. Chips were just right. So was the salsa. Got guac to go. Window seats nice, chair with back rest. Cloth napkins a nice touch but I prefer paper napkins. Would like to believe that this restaurant were better than it was. The food was of good quality, but what's with the skimping on the main ingredients? Fish tacos at lunch probably contained 1 ounce of fish, total. For $13.50 they were mainly cabbage and corn. A modest portion which would have been fine had there actually been fish on the tacos! A burrito al pastor was mostly beans and rice. Austerity measures? Careless in the kitchen? Iced teas with fruit syrup were refreshing. Service was odd in that the server seemed inauthentic and made us wait too long before taking our order, then never checked to ask how anything was. We will try again perhaps with caution. read more

Tuyas was one of our favorite spots to have lunch in Northern California. Our waitress hand mixed our drinks (BlackBerry Margarita with a light sugar rim) and suggested the egg battered Chili Rellanos which were delicious. The beans taste as if they're cooked in a bit of lard, we devoured them!! My friends had the Street Tacos & the Chili Verde with homemade flour tortillas, total hit! Tuyas has excellent food. Menu has a wide variety. We tried their special 'Fried Avacado bites' which were delicious. Arugula Beet salad is excellent for vegetarians. Our server was the best in terms of her knowledge of the menu as well as incorporating our dietary restrictions (Plant based, gluten and dairy free). Wanted to eat lunch out in Ferndale and since I had dinner at Fat Ann's the night before we decided to try Tuyas. Ferndale is a small town, so I shouldn't have been surprised to realize the hostess was a childhood friend of my sister's, so what a nice surprise to see her. Anyway, in with the review. The menu looked good online with lots of choices. I chose the fish tacos. You can choose grilled or fried (fried) and from two different sauces (I got of each, you get two tacos). The tacos were large and filling. SIL had the taco salad which looked good too. It was fun to sit on the sidewalk on Main Street and watch what was going on in town. We show up at our blocked timeframe. We ordered the ceviche as an appetizer. The chips were good but stale. I had the carne Asada . Wife had carnitas sopes. My son had chicken tacos. Chicken tacos were cold, carne asada was .....I'm not sure. And the sopes needed salt. Overall the food was incredibly disappointing. I went with high expectations but was treated to another one of Humboldt county's finest disappoints. I might go back after they've practiced the game for a few months. Service was good. We took a fun drive up the 36 to Ferndale from Sacramento. This restaurant was in walking distance from our bed and breakfast and a bunch of cool shops. Our server, Tricia was super friendly and gave top notch service. You must try it! I ordered a chicken salad, tortilla soup and my husband ordered the chicken mole. All of it was fabulous! Great find in Ferndale with standard American "Mexican" fare. Nothing super fancy, but everything you'd expect. Homemade tortillas were great, and table chips and salsa were also surprisingly good. All our dishes (4 orders) were a-okay-- nothing that you'll write home to your abuela about, but absolutely fine fare. Lots of things on menu you could make vegetarian, but good luck vegans (tbh, American-Mexican is not your cuisine). Also, service was very nice, which is a DEAL in Ferndale. Experiences shopping/dining in Ferndale can often range from "aggressively ignored" to "annoyed there are customers present"-- for thinking itself a charming tourist draw, years of experience have demonstrated otherwise-- but service here was great. It's our first time here and the food and service was amazing. The place is adorable and we were super excited to eat here. We had delicious ceviche for appetizer, 10/10 with the legit chips. Husband had the tamales 9/10, super good and a bit spicy with a kick. The raspberry tea is definitely highly recommended. I had the fish tacos with fried fish and chipotle sauce which is 6/10 only because the sauce seemed a bit salty, I was looking for something with more citrus. Definitely will be back! read more
