So I took my 15 year old Hyundai Santa Fe in for an estimate on a failed factory paint job. The owner was right up front explaining the extra work to strip, sand and extensive prep work that would be required before even starting to re paint my gloss black paint. It seems to be a common flaw in the early black obsidian Hyundai paint jobs. That car in the parking lot with the huge white peeling clear coat and flat black paint under where the clear coat has peeled.... that's MY car. Hung could have low balled my estimate and called after he started with his reasons why it could not be finished within his estimate. Instead, he wrote me a note explaining why this was a manufacturing defect and should be repaired by the factory. 5 stars for being up front and trying to assist in a claim against the factory. I won't hold my breath on a favorable ruling from the factory. But if I have other work on my truck or mechanical issues... Canyon Auto Repair has established their credibility in my book. Truth be told, I kinda expected the bad news.

It's a difficult vehicle, so I don't blame them. But Amazing Auto Service, who I've used 3 times, always comes through. They not only solve the issue at hand, but will always note any other problems they see and ask if I'd like those addressed as well. They always give great advice and are happy to walk me through what they're fixing and how so I can gain more knowledge and independence when it comes to maintaining my own vehicle. They've spotted things other mechanics missed multiple times. Mustafa has gone above and beyond on several occasions by saving old parts so I could return or sell them, picking me up from where I was staying way out in Gaston because I otherwise couldn't get a ride to the shop for several days, and comping hours' worth of diagnostic time on a hard-to-find vacuum leak. He's always looking for a practical solution that works and saves you cash. As a petite femme my experience at the mechanic varies. Some places treat me like I'm wallpaper, not listening to a word I say. But Mustafa treats me with respect and talks to me like a human being, actually listening to the issues I'm reporting. No voicemails, no texts. I know they had the right number because of the communication about the damaged parts. Didn't finish the repairs(was told they would clean up the wheel from the impact). Left random parts in the vehicle that did not belong to my truck. I had asked if they could use my touch up paint for a scratch while it was there, and that I would pay for it. Cookie said no problem, and there would be no charge. . When I called to check status the first time, reminded them about that. Never did it . The body works looks ok at this point. But the communication, follow thru, and integrity is, in my opinion, lacking

Previously they lost Meridian who seemed to be the glue that kept things righted. I will start to look for a new auto repair.

Eric has been my go-to mechanic for years now, and i've always recommended him to others. I still…read morego to him even though i live in Vancouver now. But unfortunately, this repair experience has convinced me I should never go to him again, and i will be recommending that others stay clear as well. I had a Kia Niro that needed an engine replacement. The Kia dealership gave me a quote, but i decided to ask Eric for a quote as well because i trusted him more to do the job. I paid him $7500 for the job and towed him the car. He asked me to pay in advance because he was having trouble paying his taxes. The job took several months, during which Eric didn't give any updates on the repair and wouldn't respond to any of my communication. When he finally responded after many attempts to get in touch, he told me there was a problem with the battery and only Kia could service it, so we got it towed back to Kia. He also gave excuses for why it took so long to repair, saying he had to close his shop because some of the workers got covid. I came out and used my own AAA service to tow the car to the kia dealership. Kia looked at it and found that there was no problem with the battery, but the problem was the engine was installed incorrectly. I was playing middle man calling the kia dealership, then Eric, back and forth, and eventually gave Eric the dealership's number and he said he would work with them to figure out what was wrong with the car. I heard nothing back from Eric for months. Eventually, Kia called me and said they were impounding my car. I dropped everything and got it towed back to Eric immediately. Still nothing. I went to his shop a few days later with an invoice for him to pay for the tow, which he partially paid with cash. No apology, anything. He just wanted me out of there. He told me it would take a week or so and he wouldn't charge me. Another month went by, i heard nothing from him at all. I showed up at his shop and asked for an update on my car. He said some of his workers were on vacation, and another was in a motorcycle accident. The repair hadn't been started on. He said it would take another 3-4 days. He also offered me a loaner car, which he never delivered on. Over the next weeks i reached out multiple times, only for him to ignore all of my communication. As of today, it appears no repairs have begun. This entire process has so far taken over 6 months. Multiple people have advised me to sue, maybe i still should i guess- but that's not really in my character. There have been no apologies at any point, and it has been near impossible for me to figure out what's even going on without driving almost an hour to his shop, borrowing my wife's car when she's not using it. Eric is a nice guy, and a good mechanic. But over the last six months he has made it abundantly clear that i was his very last priority, and he didn't care at all about the substandard work, numerous delays, or the ordeals i went through as a customer. I feel very disrespected by a man that i trusted and respected for many years.

They did have our car in their shop for an extended time, reportedly due to trim part unavailability (well over 30 days). Bit hard to believe, but possible. Once picked up and back in the garage, we noted that the Entire car had considerable paint contamination due to overspray. Luckly, I have the tools and ability to remove the overspray, which required about 5 hours of paint correction, polishing, and resealing the paint. A pro detailer would have charged over $300 for this same work. So, in conclusion; good repair work, less than good attention to detail, regarding the condition of the car as it was returned.
