Eric has been my go-to mechanic for years now, and i've always recommended him to others. I still go to him even though i live in Vancouver now. But unfortunately, this repair experience has convinced me I should never go to him again, and i will be recommending that others stay clear as well. I had a Kia Niro that needed an engine replacement. The Kia dealership gave me a quote, but i decided to ask Eric for a quote as well because i trusted him more to do the job. I paid him $7500 for the job and towed him the car. He asked me to pay in advance because he was having trouble paying his taxes. The job took several months, during which Eric didn't give any updates on the repair and wouldn't respond to any of my communication. When he finally responded after many attempts to get in touch, he told me there was a problem with the battery and only Kia could service it, so we got it towed back to Kia. He also gave excuses for why it took so long to repair, saying he had to close his shop because some of the workers got covid. I came out and used my own AAA service to tow the car to the kia dealership. Kia looked at it and found that there was no problem with the battery, but the problem was the engine was installed incorrectly. I was playing middle man calling the kia dealership, then Eric, back and forth, and eventually gave Eric the dealership's number and he said he would work with them to figure out what was wrong with the car. I heard nothing back from Eric for months. Eventually, Kia called me and said they were impounding my car. I dropped everything and got it towed back to Eric immediately. Still nothing. I went to his shop a few days later with an invoice for him to pay for the tow, which he partially paid with cash. No apology, anything. He just wanted me out of there. He told me it would take a week or so and he wouldn't charge me. Another month went by, i heard nothing from him at all. I showed up at his shop and asked for an update on my car. He said some of his workers were on vacation, and another was in a motorcycle accident. The repair hadn't been started on. He said it would take another 3-4 days. He also offered me a loaner car, which he never delivered on. Over the next weeks i reached out multiple times, only for him to ignore all of my communication. As of today, it appears no repairs have begun. This entire process has so far taken over 6 months. Multiple people have advised me to sue, maybe i still should i guess- but that's not really in my character. There have been no apologies at any point, and it has been near impossible for me to figure out what's even going on without driving almost an hour to his shop, borrowing my wife's car when she's not using it. Eric is a nice guy, and a good mechanic. But over the last six months he has made it abundantly clear that i was his very last priority, and he didn't care at all about the substandard work, numerous delays, or the ordeals i went through as a customer. I feel very disrespected by a man that i trusted and respected for many years. read more

Heaton Automotive has been where I would go for repairs for years, no problem. Professional and cost effective, I would recommend this business to anyone looking for a no-swindle type auto repair shop. I have never had any problems. Having said that, my last visit will be, well, my last visit. Not only did the mechanic that looked at my van misdiagnose it and seemed more interested in appearing "cool", he wasn't wearing a mask. I am a diabetic and my wife has had pneumonia a couple of times over the years, so we have to be especially careful these days. When I informed Mr. Heaton by text about this, I received no answers at all. After waiting a week, I texted him again. He answered, then when I brought up the mask issue, I was again ignored. I saved the texts. Bottom line: If you are into anti-masking, (-and I assume Trump support), and other reprehensibly dangerous practices, continue to go to Heaton Automotive. There are plenty of Oregonians who agree with this stance, so I'm sure his business will thrive, regardless. In the meantime, I'm going to Clay's Auto. At least they care enough about their customers to take the proper precautions. I have to say, ghosting people on text who are trying to stay healthy is beyond immature. HANDS DOWN BEST AUTO SHOP I had asked an old friend, a real Gearhead, where is the most reliable auto shop in town for my '97 Toyota Tacoma. Erick Heaton came highly recommended and my husband and I went all in hoping that our truck that we love would be repaired, cared for, and at a price that we could afford. From start to finish my husband and I are amazed--grateful for the superb work and communications at the shop. Our story is this: The truck wouldn't start, and to be honest, we didn't have it properly looked at when we purchased it last year. Erick responded to our call right away and had our truck in the shop by early the next morning. Our tow truck driver told us "this is the best shop around because I tow here often and there's always a lot full of cars!" By that afternoon Erick told us what needed to be done and we asked if they could take a closer look around for any other troubled areas. Erick was honest for what needed to be done right away and what could be adjusted and modified later in the future. Again, the shop communicated with us via text through the time our truck was at the shop. Never a problem getting a hold of Erick and having questions and/or concern addressed and answered. I usually don't post reviews, but my experience was really upsetting. I brought my car to Heaton for a year and half, no problem always usual maintenance, oil change, rotate tires. Every single darn time I went in I asked to please check ALL my filters (I know this is part of maintenance, and to change every couple thousand miles or so) Well every single time apparently my filters were super tidy clean because his response would always be, "they are fine, car is fine". At first I thought okay that's great, a little odd since I remember changing them more often before, but did not put too much thought to it, at the end I was saving money and my car was in fine condition so why worry, right? Recently I had to take my car into the dealership because a piece of my car was becoming loose and wanted them to repair it (something a mechanic can't do) the dealership offered me free inspection on my car and I didn't wanted to believe what they say since I already have a mechanic taking care of it. I was wrong! My cabin filter was extremely dirty they said over due it probably hadn't been changed in over a year!! They showed me the cabin so I can see for myself, they also saw I was low on fluids, break, engine fluids, ect. In other words my car was a disaster, but Eric ALWAYS said "it's fine!" To top it off the oil change Eric charges for my synthetic oil is $80!!!! Nissan dealership charged me $69 with rotation of tires? How is that possible? I thought dealerships always try to get your money with ridiculous things but boy was I wrong. I prefer spending more or less on quality work and whom I can trust now then someone who over prices a simple oil change and does minimal work. Eric I don't know if you are a liar or if you were lazy to do the work when you saw the condition of the car. I will never be doing business here again and will make sure to let my family and friends who came here as well. Eric may know cars, but he's not the one working on your vehicle. Broke the cap on my washer fluid reservoir. Scratched the heck out of my valve cover. The water pump still leaks and the valve cover still leaks. I'm just guessing the rest of the work isn't going to last long either. read more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE- Over the last 3.5 years his work resulted in my 10 year old vehicle, with only 100,000 miles on it, becoming a TOTAL LOSS because it is dangerous to drive and needs more than $15,000 in repairs in order to safely drive it. I took my vehicle to Heaton on a recommendation from someone I knew when I discovered that I had a rod knock in my engine. The original repair, a rebuilt engine, was completed in about 3 months. I got my car back mid July 2019 and it came with a 7 year/ 70,000 mile warranty on the engine. It also came back with non working A/C and a small leak from the transfer case. At the time I didn't think that they were related to the repair work. In August 2020, after I had driven it less than 5,000 miles from the repair, the engine seized as I was driving down the highway, with my family, going 60mph. I dropped it off at Heaton Automotive, because of the warranty, in October 2020. I assumed that it would be straight forward but I got nothing but excuses and pushed deadlines from both the owner and his engine builder for the next 20 months! I had to buy another vehicle so that I could drive my kids around during this time as there was no offer of a loaner or rental reimbursement. After sending a demand letter to both Heaton and Engine Parts Distributing, I finally got my vehicle back "repaired" in June of 2022. Since then I discovered an oil leak and took it back multiple times for them to repair it, there is an engine light on constantly and the steering is loose with some clunking in the front end when turning. After the 4th trip in for repairs I decided that enough was enough and took it elsewhere to have it looked at by another professional. It was worse than I could have imagined! They found numerous electrical and ABS system issues, to the point that it says my ABS and other safety systems are disabled. The steering linkage is so damaged that it could disconnect without warning and leave me traveling down the road without any mechanical steering ability. The valve cover leaks, the filler tube leaks, the timing cover gasket leaks and the rear main seal leaks. In addition, the wiring harnesses are not routed correctly and or are connected to their mount points incorrectly and parts were mounted using random bolts resulting in damage to my transmission case, oil pan and engine block. If all of this wasn't bad enough when they couldn't find the correct donut gasket for the exhaust they decided that silicone would be a suitable replacement between the headers/manifold and the down pipe. The vehicle now needs a new engine, new transmission and extensive repairs to the wiring harness and steering linkage. He told me once the last oil leak was fixed that I would be good to go. He and his team should not be allowed near anyone's car! They are dangerous and reckless and put me and my children in danger. They do not honor their word or their warranties and their work is a joke. read more

Got me a diagnosis in 8 hours, and fixed everything in 3 hours. Unreal service. And only charged $400 for everything. Fuel injectors, spark plugs, blown valve, CV axle boots, everything. This guy is by far the BEST mechanic I have ever taken my car to. My boyfriend's mom referred him to us and we haven't gone to anyone else since. I have not brought the car to the shop personally. I leave that up to the sweetheart. Every time we do take the car in, I am always prepared to pay hundreds just from past experience with other mechanics but it isn't like that with him. Even if we live on the other side of town, we'll still take our cars to him. He is well worth the drive. He is honest, efficient, and really knows his stuff. After the first few times our car has been serviced by him, I had to ask my boyfriend how old he was. Why? Because I would hate to have to look for another mechanic because he's retiring. It is really hard to find a mechanic that you're comfortable with and who won't try to fleece you because you have little to no car knowledge. I recommend him for anyone looking for a mechanic. Hands down best shop to get your car repaired in the Portland metro area. The owner Eric is honest and straight forward and goes out of his way to take care of you. I have had friends and family take their cars here and they have had the same experience. The experience has been so good that I have regained trust in the whole industry. Honest people, Excellent work We have taken 6 different cars to them. They work hard with warranty companies to get warranty work approved. They are honest and fair in the work they do. They have noted that some problems were just a minor fix and did not charge for them. They have also saved us money when they told us that some things we requested did not need to be done. The first time here, they did a good job on my air conditioning. The second time i was very disappointed. I had some work done on the emissions system. The second time i drove my car the check engine light came back on. I had some udea of what else needed to be done. When i went to clean one if the sensors i found it unplugged. This sensor was nternal to the air flow system. I fuxed it and called them. I got a lack luster apology, and was told this happens all the time. First off they are very friendly, I came by on a busy morning (without calling) and they still managed to take the time to fit me in. My car needed to go through a drive cycle so they drove it around town for me, they even put gas in my car! They found the issue and only charged me for the part, no labor.
