I used to adore going to the previous Twain Harte Pharmacy location. It was a magical well-stocked spot full of random treasures. This new location is much smaller than it's previous spot - but it's still a fantastic pharmacy with efficient and kind staff. I'm always impressed with how on point everyone is here. They're great at filling prescriptions and will do their best to find more affordable generic prescriptions as needed. I'm also a fan of their growing holistic selection here - including essential oil infused epsom bath salts here and other self care items. For such a small store - they do a fantastic job of keeping their basic key items well organized, while still sprinkling the store with fun finds. Twain Harte pharmacy saved the day for us! My pregnancy brain didn't think to pack extra lancelets for my glucometer, and we needed more. Luckily for us, the pharmacy had one box of the exact ones I needed, and they sold them to us for a more than fair price (without my prescription). I can't thank them enough! Great pharmacy but so much more. There are clothes, accessories and comfy stylish shoes. The gift area as you walk in has great selections of China cups, serving platters and tea sets. There are other gifts - some are folksy and charming others are themed - I especially liked the Bear items. There was a big selection of water toys, small pools, folding chairs and water games... I like to pretend I am going to back in time in this place. It reminds me of a general store from back in the day. They have sporting goods, clothes, shoes, medications.... I mean... you could get lost in there! So, I imagine that this place is what a Woolworth was like in 1930 with the variety of things here! We were able to get my daughter crocs because her snow boots were just SOAKED. Now this is what a Thriving Hometown Small Town Retail is all about. Why? 1. The Buyer(s) for this store are freaking geniuses. (More on this; below) 2. The Management has successfully maintained a modified version of a business model that basically bingo'd years ago with the Death of Woolworth and Birth of Wal-Mart. Many similar retailers attempted to fine tune that old dead business model and nearly all have failed. To know that Twain Harte Pharmacy didn't fail - heck these folks thrive - is quite an accomplishment and one that deserves recognition. 3. While there is an attached store where one can purchase the dark liquor, it's nice that the purchase of Satan's Syrup and related tawdry Clamper and Clamper-like enhancements are distinctly divided so as to maintain a polite distance between the day drinkers and those for whom are without challenges to maintaining a capacity of self-control. Or at least understand the decorum in which one waits until after the sun has taken its leave for the eve to retrieve ones TJ Swam Magic Moments and Mello Days. Or so it was mentioned by someone I met with an affinity for screw top fortified beverages. 4. Unlike a retailer very close by and not named Drain Apart Markup, prices at this store are reasonable considering its location. It's a good ways away from the distribution networks of basically all providers and many things likely come by small delivery vehicle or UPS. However, these folks don't take that to the extreme or use it as justification to gouge a captive audience. I find that quite cool and it's appreciated. Now If old Sam had his way, this store would have long since closed and y'all would be standing in a line 14 miles away with 14 screaming kids high on PopTarts, 7 cycling teen moms topping off the estrogen and progestogen and a dozen or so pre-AARP yet post-ED dudes redeeming coupons for blue pills they try to disguise by also buying Pez dispensers. (Its always the Smurf ones too. C'mon guys show some original go with Patrick Starfish....his house is Rock Solid.) Fill your prescription here and you don't have to deal with all that and know at the same time that your business supports the local community. Great self service photo kiosk for prints and enlargements etc. Easy to use and inexpensive. Quality compares to anything you'll find in CVS or Rite Aid. Lastly, this store has some really cool and unique items for gifts, home decor and paper/card specialty store type of merchandise. Very much a step above the old Woolworth in that respect and light years better than and of finer quality than Walmart. What really stands out is their craft section.....-HOLY CRAFTS- it's amazing. If you are visiting with one of those ETSY or Pintrest chicks and she's getting annoying because she forgot her cricket machine, bring her HERE. There are beads, baubles, hoopachews, foil, fabrics and related stuff to glue stick or otherwise affix to anything that needs a bird on it. Genius. Great store. Wish I had thought of it first. Great store that seems to have a little bit of everything! Second time here for fabric, what an amazing selection and the prices are great! Besides buying 20 yards of fabric I got a few items of clothing & some gifty things. Good prices and great selection on everything I looked at. Shout out to Diana who was working the front end and who is a great asset to this store. I bought some cheap 'emergency back-up' sunglasses at the store since mine where missing and I needed to see for the drive down the hill. Diana asked me if I would be wearing the glasses out, and I said yet. Not only did she take off the price tag and stickers on the lens...she handed them to me wrapped in a tissue to avoid fingerprints and to clean up the lenses. She was very friendly & knowledgeable. In other words, you can get anything you need here: snacks and drinks (alcoholic and non), clothes (from camper chic essentials to work wear to swimsuits, and a large selection of accessories), high end gift shop gifts (e.g. aprons, wine stoppers, fancy bakeware, cupcake decorating tools, gourmet cookbooks, and quality wineglasses), and craft supplies for all your sewing project and scrapbooking needs. HORRIBLE PHARMACY - GO TO SONORA. They literally will not fill your prescription until you show up to pick it up. Then they say 10-15 minutes, which quickly turns into hours. My dad warned me not to use them because he has ALWAYS had problems getting my moms meds. It sometimes took days and many return trips to get them to fill a simple RX. If I could give no stars I would. Save yourself a lot of inconvenience and just go to Rite Aid. This place should be shut down FFS. read more

While Twain Harte is not my typical destination, I wandered around these parts for a winter retreat in the mountains. Twain Harte offers a bit of civilization in these parts and the Twain Harte Pharmacy is the "Superstore" around here. In addition to pharmaceuticals you can find practically everything you need! Interestingly enough, they have a door way that connects to the liquor store...and the grocery store is right next door to that. My wife loves this places (As does my mother-in-law). I am old hippie and a quilter, we live in MiWuk, this is the MOST delightful store I have ever been in. Need it? They have it. Ok, they did not have the right size curtain rod, but that was a first. I know women who travel across California for their fabrics, not to mention their yarn, or dollhouse crafts, or, or, or. And this is all on top of normal drugstore supplies. I buy most of my clothes here, too. An after thought. An unfortunate after thought. The manager is the most unpleasant, unhappy, un-cooperative fellow I have ever had the disadvantage of running into. When he was asked about a major defect in a piece of clothing he just shrugged. If you can't find something to buy in this fabulous drugstore, you need to have your eyes examined! In addition to the "cute aisle" which is near the middle of the store, there is also the gift area in the front plus the best selection of clothing you will find in the area. For those who are sewers and quilters there is the best ever selection of fabric at fabulous prices. SO DISAPPOINTED by poor customer service today! I've spent hundreds in this store as I frequently visit two family homes and a friend's home in Twain Harte. Lots of fun random gifts, crafts, etc., to peruse. BUT: A few weekends ago I bought an $11 "nerf" football knockoff for my kids and visiting friends to play with. After 20 minutes we realized this was the worst football we ever played with, and I brought it back with its receipt the next day. Instead of money return, store credit, or replacement with a better brand if they had it, I endured 4 people different people being called to the desk to tell me I could not return it since it had been used. Of course it was used! I didn't return it because I didn't want it, but because it was terribly imbalanced, couldn't spiral, and shed skin after 10 minutes of throwing. I expected thry would be happy to clear their shelves of a poor product before selling to others. But no. I was asked by the second manager to the scene - Susan - why I took the plastic wrapper off the ball, and if the wrapper said the football would spiral. ?!?!? An embarrassing exercise in futility. She said I'd have to call a guy named Mike on another day. Mike - if you read this, PLEASE train your employees in customer service! You are the main game in town, and if they can't give returns on defective products you carry, you better bet I won't be taking the risk to support local business anymore! I've bought too many expensive items here for that risk. Going up this weekend - will stop in Sonora for items I need. :-( read more

While I don't purchase my prescriptions here - I do find many gift and craft items here. I love the variety of home/gift items and can almost always find that special item. The fabric department carries many fabrics that you won't find at the larger shops in Sonora. Mary is very knowledgeable and helpful when looking for the right pairing of fabrics for us quilters. They even offer a discount when you purchase a certain about of yards. read more

Great little store with a great BIG inventory, including many unique gift items. I love just wandering the aisles of this place sometimes and it's my go-to store when I need a last-minute gift. Some of the front of store staff is not all that pleasant. Specifically, it's just a couple of the older staff members that can be rude and unpleasant. There is some guy that kind of just hangs out near the front registers a lot, too. Not sure if he is the store manager or what, but he doesn't seem to contribute anything. The pharmacy at Twain Harte Pharmacy is exceptional! We live in Sonora, and had been using Walmart pharmacy for a couple years. I have an extensive amount of monthly meds, and need to visit the pharmacy on a very regular basis. Dealing with Walmart pharmacy was a nightmare!! No offense to the lovely gals there, but their system is horrible. Super long wait times, inconsistent and unreliable services, and confusion with communication at almost every turn. When we found out Mike (by far the BEST pharmacist at Walmart) had moved to Twain Harte Pharmacy, we decided it was well worth the 10-15 min drive to switch. THANK YOU for placing ads around town so we could be informed of the change! Could NOT be happier with that decision!! Mike helped us switch ALL of my meds without me lifting a finger or making any phone calls myself. He has literally made all the difference in the world in dealing with my medications. The time it takes to run up to T.H., grab our meds, and get home is still shorter than ONE visit to Sonora Walmart pharmacy. I HIGHLY recommend T.H. Pharmacy to everyone in the county, whether your needs are extensive, like mine or even if you just have an occasional med to pick up. It's a small town, old fashion pharmacy, where the pharmacist (Mike) knows you by name and really makes it his mission to help you. The ladies working there with him are super too. They're pleasant, helpful and exhibit awesome customer service. We will be making Twain Harte Pharmacy our permanent pharmacy!! (Also, I understand they even make deliveries, as far as Jamestown in case it's snowing, for those of you who cannot drive in the weather). read more

I live in Twain Harte and any time I need a nice card, a gift (they wrap in beautifully for free with a minimum purchase) or just about anything I need I can find it here. They have just about any kitchen utensil you can think of, their craft department is awesome, it has great brushes, canvas and oil paints, along with anything else you can think of. I love this store. I do agree with some of the other reviewers that the manager(?) is quite stand-offish, but the rest of staff is very nice. read more

I want to give this place a shout out. I went on vacation up in the Sierras over July 4th weekend and, in a phenomenal brain cramp, left my prescription med at home. I didn't realize this until around 8 PM on July 4. Nothing to be done but spend a bad night berating myself for being so stupid! Next morning I called doctor as soon as they opened. They told me they frequently get calls from frantic people who go on vacation without prescriptions. I was afraid Twain Harte Pharmacy, being in such a small town, would not be able to fill my prescription in which case I'd have to go to CVS in Sonora, about 50 mile round trip. My doctor's office said Twain Harte Pharmacy is on national data base and sent a fax. I waited an hour, as the pharmacy was not yet open, then called. They said they would have my prescription ready for me in 20 minutes - and did. I was clearly just passing through, not a local, not someone who might become a regular customer, but they literally saved the day for me. So thank you. read more
