Twelve 33 Distiller is a gem, a delight, a treat and worth visiting. My wife and I did the VIP tour and it was amazing - very well led by SAM who spoke well on how they make their spirits as he showed us around, helping us pick spirits for our sampling and leading us through the equipment then to the "secret" Speakeasy. We loved our time at Twelve 33, enjoying our visit with SAM and KEVIN, the food, the spirits and the general feeling of joy persistent throughout the facility. Highly recommend you work in time to visit! TOUR $29 per person gets you a very personalized tour with an employee - in our case, that employee was SAM TICE who we learned is the Assistant Distiller and Operations Manager so he definitely knows his stuff! On the tour, you start by picking your spirits that will be on your tasting flight. Yeah, it seems weird to pick them up front but then while you're on the tour in the back, their staff is pouring all your spirits so they are ready for you when you're done - very efficient! And don't worry, your guide will assist you in selecting spirits and there's a very descriptive menu to help you out as well. SPIRITS The spirits I tried were excellent and my wife enjoyed hers as well, starting with their Intemperance Vodka that both of us got and fell in love with. And that's saying something! We are both Belvedere fans as our number one vodka of choice, and it's a Rye vodka so normally we're not in on the corn/wheat types but this vodka was smooth, delightful and fun enough that we purchased 2 bottles on our way out. Beyond that, our tastes went different directions as I loaded up on whiskeys and my wife went the tequila and cream liquor route. My favorite was the Triple Oaked whisky which I also procured a bottle of as we exited SPEAKEASY Such a fun surprise - at the end of the tour, you open their speakeasy by uttering the password, and step back into time with early 1900's decor and music, plus your tasting flight waiting with water and pretzels for you to enjoy. They give you time to taste and also select a cocktail (included in the tour) from their menu which they bring to you to imbibe in this fun room! FOOD We only tried one item from their Small Bites menu - a flatbread - but it was awesome. Very interesting flatbread as it was smaller than I think we expected but the ingredients were perfectly balanced and appropriately sized - we had the BBQ Chicken pizza with BBQ sauce, roasted chicken, purple onion and 3 cheese blend. It was cute and the perfect amount of food for a snack before we moved on to dinner closer to our hotel. STAFF Besides SAM who gave us the tour, we met KEVIN OSBORN, the founder/owner/head distiller who swung by to say hello and chat for a moment. He was very nice and it was great of him to drop by. Founded in 2017, the Twelve 33 Distillery (named after the month when prohibition ended) was the first distillery to open in Horry County (both Myrtle Beach and Little River are located in it). It has a wide variety of different spirits, and has a strongly recommended tasting tour. My wife and I took advantage of our free time near Myrtle Beach during a hotel change-over, making (and paying for) the reservation on-line. Both of us really loved it, and really appreciated how the uncrowded time let us slowly enjoy every part of the tour, especially the tasting(s) at the end. The tour costs $29 per person, paid at the time of reservation. The distillery's bar opened at the same time as our tour (around 1 pm). It is located in a newer strip mall, right off of highway 17, with a dunkin donuts is in the same building. There was plenty of free outdoor parking in front. It's a beautiful space inside, with plenty of open seating and high unfinished ceilings. We were the only two on the tour, and Eric was our guide. We started by writing the 6 chosen spirits for the later tasting. My wife chose - Intemperance vodka - Carolina Peach Vodka - Crusader Spiced Rum - Tipsy Joe Coffee Cream Liqueur - two others while I chose - Blueberry Vodka - Arethusa Single Barrel Rum - Big Six Double Oak Bourbon - Big Six Barrel Proof Bourbon Whiskey - Traigh Mhor American Single Malt Whiskey - Rocco Loco American Agave We then went on our tour, in the industrial area of the building. The actual space where the magic happens doesn't require much walking to see all of it. So it depends a lot on the tour guide to keep the spirit going: to entertain and hopefully do a little (in our case a lot) of education. Eric was great at all of it, and we even got to meet the owner (Kevin), who was working the floor. I had done a little studying for a previous distillery review, so what Eric taught us confirmed a lot. Two things of note were the two large vessels , nicknamed 'Bonnie' for the mash tun (where the grains are cooked) and 'Clyde' for the copper still. We then moved to the custom-built hidden speakeasy, where a secret password needed to be whispered to the lion head guarding the room (the secret word is related to Prohibition, like a lot of things here). Once we entered, our flights were ready and included 3 cream liquors as well. Eric then switched over to become our bartender/waiter, bringing water and pretzels, and offering suggestion and answers. He made it clear that we could take our time. Once we were done with the samples, we got to choose a full size cocktail (normally $13). We got a 'Never Trust a Ginger' (peach vodka, OJ, simple syrup, lime, basil, and ginger beer) and 'Eddie the Swinia' (bourbon, agave, lemon juice, cherry bitters). Both were excellent, eminently drinkable. We were having a really good time, admiring the atmosphere of the speakeasy. After we finished our drinks, we ordered 3 of the popular spirits to bring back home: Doc Scoflaw ($69.95), Carolina Peach Vodka ($29.95), and Big Six Double Oak ($59.95). Ten percent was taken off because we took the tour. The tax here was 8% (definitely a lot more palatable then the 21% charged in some places). We stayed a little bit longer to admire the room, and then left...remarking how nice everyone was, and hoping that future spirit tours would be as gratifying as this one. read more

New favorite spot on the East Coast! Seriously! It's unlike any other distillery I've been to. It's huge instead, wide open, yet somehow still cozy. The cocktail flights are genius, the prices are unbeatable, and the drinks are unique and outstanding. Our waitress, Ashley, was the absolute best! She gave the greatest recs (for both drinks and other places to go after). Love ya girl!! Highly recommend the Bloody Mary and Spicy Marg. I also did the bourbon tasting and you can't beat the price. Wow, talk about options!! I'm not a beer or whiskey person so I was happy to see craft cocktails as an option! Eric was AMAZING! He was very attentive and explained everything and asked if we had questions along with giving us samples when we came in. We made the mistake of moving tables because my husband is disabled and has trouble at high-top tables because our new server Mary Jo rarely checked on us and I had to wave her down. We ordered a chicken bacon alfredo Pizza. It was over garlicky and salty The Flights were amazing and strong. The afternoon delight cocktail (seasonal) was my favorite. Smaller inside than it looks from the street, but that's certainly due to production side of things. Good local spirits of varying types. They of course do tours and spirits flights as well as in house cocktail specialties and reliables like an old fashioned. I posted menu pics of their pricing and all offerings. They do have a small selection of sammiches and munchies made in house as well. Pro tip, just ask for a small taster of anything you'd like and they'll oblige. Also, most of their bottled spirits are widely available, often at a lower price, at nearly all liquor stores across the Grand Strand. My favorite so far is their Big Six double oaked bourbon. We've found all the help to be very friendly. They also have strong and free wifi, just like 'merica! Only downer would be that it shares a parking lot and wall with a super busy Dunkin Donuts and as a result, a parking spot can sometimes be difficult to find. read more

Do not let the entrance by the Dunkin Donuts make your first impression. We met my best friend here for her birthday and we really enjoyed it. The inside has a cool vibe. Our waitress was terrific and the tasting setup is great. Since it was the holidays, they gave us a free shot of Santa's Helper. It was like an amazing hot peppermint cocoa in a shot. We then sampled a prohibition style bourbon. Now that had some burn! I did a flight of cocktails and would recommend this so you can sample the various spirits and drinks. You can also do a flight of just the spirits as well. We were super hungry and all of the "bites" were great. We tried all three paninis and all of them were packed with flavor. What a fun afternoon at Twelve33! We took the tour and had Kevin as our guide. He was super knowledgeable and passionate about his business. We learned so much about the distilling process and also about the prohibition era. The educational tour of the distillery lasted about 45 minutes, and afterwards we were given the secret password to the hidden speakeasy for our tasting part of the tour. We got about 6 samples and then got to choose a cocktail. Everything was very delicious and a lot of fun! We decided to stay for some snacks and went out into the main bar area. Kathy, our server was so welcoming and friendly! She even replaced a spilled drink for me! We tried the pretzel bites and they were very yummy. I like to try new whiskey/bourbon's when in local areas. Came here and just felt like nobody cared we were there. Decided to get a neat pour as didn't want to try other things. For $8 the pour is a decent size for sure. Never offered any pretzels and saw another table got them. Server never asked if we wanted food. I was trying to get more info about the place as I asked sever how long have you been open. Five years and conversation ended there. Didn't seem to want to tell me or wife more about their story etc. For us small batch places are cool and if you have a good story, then maybe I'll buy something. We leave for home tomorrow and won't be back to MB anytime soon. Whiskey was decent. Feel some I've had in TN are better but that's just my opinion. They advertise they are open until 9 on Saturday. We walk in at 6:25pm and are told that they have a hard close at 7 and we must leave at that time. One of the servers tells us they have been telling the owner to change that for weeks. A server comes to explain the drinks then never comes back so we have to take our order to the bar ourselves. The drinks are very pricey and did not seem very boozy. The woman working at the bar was very short and told us that they have been there since 10 am and it has been a long day (and not in a pleasant way). We posted our concern on their Facebook post and they removed it. No reason other than they don't want anyone to see something they don't like which is censorship. And, if you do try and post again they just remove access from you completely. Very disappointed and will not return. read more

I stopped in with my husband to check out their tours for our kids+spouse/partner. Met at the front by a wonderful enthusiastic young lady who gave us a great rundown on the whole place. We were Intrigued to say the least with 2 whiskey drinkers, and 2 that like lighter spirits. So we purchased a good bottle of bourbon for Christmas arrival and 4 tours for their stockings scheduled for Friday after Christmas. All were excited for the tastings but none of them were prepared for how awesome the tour was. From the history & process to the speakeasy at the end - they were blown away. They talked all through dinner about the tour, bought many bottles to take back to Chicago, and couldn't wait to get home after dinner to enjoy a holiday spirit with us. I am strongly recommending this experience and will be signing my husband and I up for our own tour when we come back to Calabash. The experience was fun and exciting but I was a somewhat let down by the cocktails. I thought the drinks were going to taste top tier but they all tasted like they had soda water or tonic water in them; so in my opinion it made them taste similar to each other and i couldn't really get past it. Don't get me wrong they definitely have potential to be great but the tonic water needs to go. They still had plenty of good options though read more

While staying in North Myrtle Beach, we came here on a Saturday, around 3PM as something to do to kill time. They were packed when we got there, but we got a seat. They have an interesting way to order your flight, so pay close attention when they're explaining it as they seat you. Their drinks and cocktails are interesting and comically named! A couple of the cocktails we ordered for our flight were too sweet or slightly odd tasting, but they were very appealing looking and the others tasted great. I stopped in on a nice Thursday, while near Myrtle Beach. The place is very spacious. They have a nice seating setup indoors. The barkeep was friendly and helpful as I picked out my tasting flight. They sell a huge variety of liquor styles. Also, nice to get free pretzels and water to cleanse the plate between the liquor. Definingly would return when I'm back in the area. They also offer bottles to go, and seems like a great gift to bring where you're headed. Located on a tricky intersection, but if you pull into the Dunkin Donuts, you're good since they share the parking lot. Cheers! read more

Twelve33 is a must visit. We scheduled a tour for 5PM on Friday for a group of 6 and everyone in the party enjoyed this. It became the favorite part of our trip to South Carolina. The tour guide was well spoken and did the distilling himself. He answered our countless questions and even let us taste some of their unreleased bourbon that had a cinnamon roll finish. We were a bit worried because some members of our party don't drink much straight alcohol in any form. The tasting was just the right amount and the mixed drinks we received after were some of the best we've ever had. Highly recommend the Bloody Mary with their three peppers vodka, one of the best I've ever had. We also enjoyed their take on old fashioned & whiskey sour. Twelve33 has only been around 5 years so their bourbons are still young but this place has a very bright future! read more

Fun place, excellent staff, great selection of spirits and cocktails. We were a group of six and some tried the straight spirit flights and others tried the cocktail flights and we all sampled each others. We enjoyed hummus dip and pretzel bites. The pretzel bites were soft on the I side with a slight crunch and served piping hot. They come with a beer cheese dip and honey mustard. Both dipping sauces were delicious. The hummus is house made and is topped with a very delicious olive tapenade. It is served with warm naan/pita like wedges and tortilla chips. Both dips were excellent choices to have with our drinks. I got a cocktail flight and shared with our designated driver. I drank 3 of the 4, and she had one. My favorite drink of the four was the Diablo Blanco. It is slightly sweet and is served with an habanero salt rim...but don't let that scare you! It is more salty than spicy but offers just enough of the habanero taste without burning your lips. Others really enjoyed the Bloody Abe Froman. Well, let's be honest, we loved every drink and spirit but these two stood out. If you can, ask for a sample of the Toasted Republic! This place is flippin' amazing. The outside of the distillery is so unassuming, but we were blown away by the place once we were inside and had learned of some of its "secrets". Seriously: if you have any interest in an experience and distilled booze, get the VIP tour. The value is super impressive, and the ending of the tour really makes the entire experience. The VIP Tour is definitely an "experience". NOTE: The website isn't clear about whether the VIP Tour takes 45 minutes or 1.5 hours. Expect it to take at least 1 hour in active "tour" - and at *least* 15 minutes for the tasting. I'd recommend planning longer for the tasting if possible. The tour does not include any stairs, the ability to walk around a small concrete room, and it just includes a lot of standing. (They may be able to bring in a chair for sitting if you call ahead.) SECOND NOTE: While I'm repping the VIP Tour: you can book their VIP tour (and your timeslot) online. However, if you have a Designated Driver (like we did!), you can get a separate, much-cheaper tour for them when you arrive at the distillery proper. PROS: -The speakeasy. I really, really don't want to spoil anything about it, but I highly recommend the VIP tour. The value is fantastic. -The person who gave us the tour was really knowledgeable; he had the answer to all of our questions - or was willing to interrupt one of the brewers in order to get the answer to our question. The tour, essentially, just walks you around a large, rectangular room; the tour guide really has to sell it in information. Lots and lots of great info about the brewery - and very approachable. I really loved all of the information about the prohibition era and would highly recommend more interesting/charismatic stories from back then. -The distillery tries to use local - and give back - where they can. The tour points out quite a few points where they've done their best. -Cocktail flights. I've never seen cocktail flights before - and I'm so freakin' enamored with them! -The entire place is beautiful. Large windows with natural light and lots of wooden, classic design. -Our entire party was impressed with their distilled beverages. By far, everyone fell in love with their Creme beverages - which include seasonally-flavored cream liqueurs. Highly highly recommend as a super-smooth drink without all of the sweetness. We took home bottles of their stuff. -If you have people in your party who aren't into distilled beverages, Twelve 33 is attached to a Baskin Robbins and a Dunkin' Donuts. (Literally...attached.) Everybody can divide and conquer. CONS: -Twelve 33 is pretty far out of Myrtle Beach - which can make it a pretty intense drive. When you get there, you're greeted by a parking lot that is absolutely horrendous. While Twelve 33 has its own parking spots, the potholes in the parking lot definitely require slow driving. read more

I seem to bring the rain whenever we finally get to take a vacation that's longer than 3 days! But luckily we heard about a great distillery just outside of Myrtle Beach which is what brought us to Twelve 33 on this rainy Monday. Kathy was our server and she is a gem! She explained the whole menu to us and helped us navigate the multitude of spirits and cocktails available for tasting. Hubby and I each chose 6 spirits-he leaning more towards the bourbons and me towards the vodkas and cream liqueurs. I honestly enjoyed everything which is out of the ordinary for me. I splurged and ordered 4 mini cocktails...Laces Out, Cobbler with Consequences, Lil Punkin, and the special Old Fashioned. We were given some pretzels and water to cleanse the palette between drinks. We ordered tots from the menu because I can't drink on an empty stomach! Shortly after we arrived, several more parties arrived. This was the perfect "indoor activity" for our first full day in Myrtle Beach with a tropical storm surging through. But even if it wasn't raining this would have been on our list of must see places while here for the week. read more

Excellent tasting experience at Twelve 33 Distillery! You didn't have to be a tequila, rum, whiskey and/or vodka only drinker. The variety of flavors created in their mixed drink were worth a visit! If you like to taste just the distilled drinks you could go with a flight of their own spirits. Each are individually poured in shot glasses and lined up to taste (pretzels provided for in between tastings) If you like flavored mixed drinks, the variety to choose from was hard to narrow down to just four on their tasting but I could eliminate anything smoky or whiskey to choose my 4 options! I went with the Afternoon Delight, Hot Mess, Famous Golfer Guy, and Diablo Bianco. All were pretty sweet and the spiciest was probably the margarita (Diablo Bianco). I figured since the 3 Pepper infused Twelve 33 vodka was in the Hot Mess that would be the spiciest but it was the most refreshing and not as sweet or tart. That one was most definitely my favorite! The rest were quite sweet but could easily be cut or tolerated because they were a flight size. Either way I enjoyed all the flavors but would recommend Hot Mess to all! I've been on many whiskey tours in Tennessee & Kentucky and this distillery has it going on! Very modern and clean. If your interested in how you get your vodka, whiskey, moonshine etc...take this tour. Alcohol samples are great and a surprise at the end of the tour which you will love I guarantee!!!
