My husband and I enjoyed a lovely listening session of John Coltrane A Love Supreme. Acoustics are outstanding, which is the main reason to check out Shibuya HiFi. Drinks: Having been warned by both a colleague as well as all Shibuya reviews (Google and Yelp) on mid-cocktails, we enjoyed our favorite spirit on rocks and averted disaster. Cocktails are $18+ and there is a single bartender. As several reviewers note, drinks are not permitted in the listening room, so make sure to enjoy your drink prior to your scheduled session. Seating: We arrived around 5PM for our 6PM session to grab a quick drink and lined up ~5:20PM to be first in line (seating is first-come, first-serve). Shoes off in the listening room. Best seats are front and center of the listening room, with uncomfortable stools towards the back. Music: The storytelling of the album was simple (might have expected more knowledge of the album), with the host spending majority of time introducing us to the acoustic sound equipment of the room.

Super chill and just a dope atmosphere overall. It's the kind of place where you feel like you're in the right spot for the night. Service was solid, everybody was cool and actually knew what they were talking about. Drinks were on point too....not the basic stuff you get everywhere else. What I really liked is the whole vinyl/listening-room experience. You come here to actually enjoy the music, not just talk over it. The sound system is amazing, the playlists are well put together and the whole place just gives you that "I'm somewhere unique" feeling. I get why people love this place, it's perfect for a date, catching up with friends, or just relaxint with good music and good energy. Definitely worth it!!

Each of my visits were with a friend of mine who has been a customer for many years who pre-arranged our visits. Connon has been amazing setting up multiple options and swapping out components so we could listen to the differences in various turntables, preamps, amps, speakers, subs, etc. for my listening room project which I hope to complete this year (summer 2024). Although I haven't personally taken advantage of his offer yet, Connon is willing to buy back equipment for upgrades (less than full price). This lowers the cost and burden of experimentation on the journey to build an amazing audiophile listening experience. Four years in and I'm still super happy with my Planar 6 turntable. Connon gave me a great deal on a demo model with a pre-installed Ania moving coil cartridge on which I've played hundreds of records. I don't know of a better place to shop in Seattle for HiFi sound equipment. Note: I noticed a handful of reviews complained about the hours (not open Sunday-Tuesday), lack of immediate personal greeting, or a verbal caution when interacting with expensive equipment like a $5K cartridge. I haven't experienced the same, but I've only been to the store on pre-arranged visits when we knew Connon would be here. That said, I don't compare this store with a typical "walk in, buy something, and leave" store that's open every day, has prices marked on everything, but virtually no expertise to help you make the best purchase decisions. With a little patience, you can get the most personalized service available, great deals, and fantastic products. Highly recommend!

One of the frustrating things about getting into something beyond Home Theater in a Box is the barrier to entry. Burt at Seattle Hi-Fi can help you demystify any questions you might have whether you are a novice or interested in bi-amping into a stereo amp bridge to a mono-block. Burt can hang with just about anyone and has the same positive attitude no matter the conversation. One of the key differentiators with Seattle Hi-Fi vs every other company I have done business with is how welcoming they are to your needs AND budget! Any AV shop will cater to your needs if your budget is right. All AV shops can make you feel welcomed if you are spending a huge amount of money. Burt has helped me when I was spending a single digit % of his suggested budget on an item the exact same as when I was spending more than what he suggested! I have felt like an extremely valued customer through every interaction with Burt, regardless of what I needed or what I was spending. Burt has spent time helping me debug problems AFTER the purchase was complete on a new use case I had and just generally is fantastic. Seattle Hi-Fi is my favorite store in the greater Seattle area, and my favorite AV store I have ever been to! Cannot recommend Seattle Hi-Fi enough.

My home theatre setup had become a living nightmare. I'm highly sensitive to sound, and had been…read moresuffering an extremely unusual and intermittent audio clarity issue for six months. Sometimes movies would sound fine, but sometimes the audio would sound absolutely horrid - anything from a high-end scraping sound (just in CERTAIN scenes) to weirdly muffled bass, and everything in-between. Many "big" sounds, like gunshots or explosions, came across sounding nerfed - like the listener was wearing earplugs. Sometimes the DVD seemed to be the problem, because the audio would warble back and forth between speakers without any visual cues to sync to. And none of this was consistent across devices - for example, I played a new DVD on 3 different DVD players, and each sounded awful /in a different way/! I've long been a tech nerd, and I know how to isolate and troubleshoot a system, but there just wasn't any consistency in the issues I was seeing and I was starting to become physically sick from how bad and uneven it sounded. As the problem worsened, I figured it had to be the receiver. Some microchip or other /must/ be going sour; it was just too broad a problem. Due to the complexity of my setup, I first replaced the receiver with an identical piece of new old-stock from eBay - which, after two hours of effort, I found to be half DOA - it got power but wouldn't recognize much else. Exhausted, I called in a professional to help me upgrade to a new receiver, which resulted in a great new receiever and /some/ of the sound problems being resolved. We agreed the speakers had to be replaced next... but my experience with that person turned terrible as he bailed on our appointment after I'd taken the day off work to accommodate him, and then harassed me by text for weeks after I stopped responding. (This write-up is located at https://www.yelp.com/biz/seattle-home-theater-pros-seattle-3 if you want the FULL story). So when I walked into Magnolia Audio at the Northgate Best Buy, I had just been rudely stood up, and was in a high emotional state about getting this problem resolved before it actually drove me insane. I walked up to the first person I saw, Doman Soohoo. Fortunately for me, Doman was absolutely exceptional to work with. He sat down with me and listened to me, and was caring and supportive of the stress and pain I'd been through. He told me about his experience working at Magnolia for /over thirty years/, and about some of his other customers that he had helped through similarly stressful situations. I realized later that Doman was building trust with me by telling me these stories, and it worked wonders on my emotional state. My audio over-sensitivity is definitively worse when I'm upset to such a degree, so validating me in the way he did was a true kindness not often seen in retail environments today. Doman took me into a listening room, and told me a ton about speakers and how today's receivers interact with them. He played audio for me through various sets of speakers (without telling me which set was playing - a brilliant move that circumvented my established paradigms), and listened as I described the sound quality back to him: this set sounds flat; this set has a round, full sound; this set sounds as good as the last set but more rich; et cetera. Turns out I identified those specifics correctly, and Doman agreed I have a VERY good ear... which I honestly wish weren't so good, haha - Doman had also mentioned old CRTs, and I immediately expressed that not only could I hear their high-pitched whine, but I can tell you if an old CRT is showing a white or black screen based on the pitch of that whine. @_@ I watch a lot of movies, and explosions had sounded the worst - so Doman played movie explosions in the listening room until I found a set that sounded crisp and clear to my ear. He didn't make me feel rushed or pressured while we did this, and even said, "If you don't give up, I won't give up." What a wonderfully supportive thing to say - and best yet, he meant it! I had arrived nearly in tears at Magnolia around 11:30am and didn't leave until after 3pm - he spent half his workday helping me. After the awful experience and harassment I'd suffered, working with Doman was like putting cool aloe on a second degree sunburn. The rest is at compunction.org/domanmagnolia.txt

It was the wrong one, and no label on the box could have told me that. My fault for trusting them, but good customer service would dictate that when I tried to return it 2 hours later (admittedly, to the Bellevue store since that's where I was by then), it would be fine. Apparently there's a policy of only refunding 85% of items that have been opened. Nicely done, considering I couldn't find their mistake without opening the box. If I'm going to drop a grand at your store, you can honor a return on a $75 part. If you choose to shop here, be sure you check every single item before you pay, and see if Best Buy proper carries it, as you'll be better served if something goes wrong.

Last time I went in there with a quick question, he was the only one there and within a minute we were discussing complex worldly issues, personal challenges and the meaning of life. Highly unusual in my experience, particularly with that subject matter. About 8 months later, the back up camera was malfunctioning. Initially told that they would have a look if we bring the car to the shop. My sister brought the car to the shop using her half day PTO, where she felt ignored and womanized; they checked the the dashcam which has nothing to with this installation when she clearly mentioned it was the back up camera that was acting up. I had to drive up to the shop and asked again to troubleshoot. Mr. Dutton and the installer refused to check it on the spot and asked to scheduled an appointment. It turns out that one of the power cable to the camera was disconnected and fall out of the sleeve due to not being crimped properly. Also noticed they have stripped my plastic interior bolt during the installation which now has to be replaced. I will never do business with this establishment again. Nice wording btw. She has issues because she pointed out there is an issue. Y'all are jokes. Updates: Had a call with Dutton. Called me an asshole for leaving a review and making a complaint.
