She took us to a tucked away swimming hole with a waterfall to play in. We saw three herds of cow elk, and acutally had to pull off to a beach to let them wade across in front of us. The river and weather were beautiful with a perfect blue sky to top it off. After the run, we stopped at her cafe up the street for dinner, which was also great. Not only was to tour and food wonderful, the staff were all very accomodating. The best customer service, which suites the small town:) We missed our initial kayak time because of road construction on our way from the Hoh campground. No big deal, they said, because they were able to put us on the afternoon tour instead. After the ride, it was getting close to the grill at the cafe to close. So, they called the cook to let us know we were on our way, and they stayed open a bit longer so we could have a hot meal. Next time, we plan to do the lower half of the river. And, hopefully, get in on the day run because there is usually more wildlife at that time.

The wife took the reservations and the husband, Travis, ran the tour in a 13-passenger tour bus that had seatbelts. Tours cost about $40 a person, which seemed a tad high to me, but I can't fault them for making money off of the Twilight hoopla before it dies down. Travis was very personable and kept up a jovial chatter throughout the tour, including some Twilight trivia. The sites in La Push were far more interesting than those in Forks. The La Push beach is amazing, and it turns out that there are rental cabins right on the beach and that you can pay for a beach fire permit from the Quileute tribe. Wish we had known that in advance! There's even some annual event when the tribe elders tell old stories by the fire. That could really be worth the trip. The sights in Forks aren't nearly as interesting. The community medical center where Carlisle Cullen worked and police station where Charlie Swan worked and the local high school are the only real-life places on the tour. Otherwise, it's just 3 houses that are rented out to tourists as Jacob's, Bella's and the Cullen house, even though they don't match the book descriptions or the movie. They are just the closest approximations within the town. I'm pretty sure they could have padded the tour a bit with mentions of the outdoor gear store where Bella worked, or the diner where Charie and Bella ate, or other miscellaneous mentions in the book, some of which seemed to be real places that we passed. Instead, there was a bit too much emphasis on the tourist-trap shopping opportunities for Twilight fans, local restaurants (there are no more than 10) and the few entertainment options in town. The tour wasn't quite worth the money, but I'm glad we did it. If you make this trip, consider staying two nights. It's a very long drive from Seattle for just a one night stay. The eco-tourism in the region is well worth an additional night.

Went on this tour when visiting Olympic National Park. Who knew there were rainforests in the US!!…read moreThis is a 4 hour tour lead by a National Park guide so not only is it informative, it is affordable! $35 for a 4 hour tour, not a bad deal! It's also the only tour of it's type in the area. You can bring snacks and drinks on the tour van so it's very relaxing. Anyways, this tour starts at Lake Quinault Lodge. On our tour, there were only 6 people, so it was like a private tour! The rainforest is beautiful and being driving around in AC beats driving your own car on the rough road. The guide stops at lots of waterfalls and sights and that you would not know to stop at otherwise. There is also a bathroom break and we stopped at one of the homesteads to explore. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Olympic National Park. It's a great and easy way to see the rainforest. Be aware that there are bugs in the rainforest and you can get bitten like me! Bring your bug spray!

We were happy just to get out on the water and explore, but were lucky enough to witness a wealth of beautiful sea creatures. We saw humpback whales, then a playful pod of Harbour Popoise put on an amazing show. The grand finale was a pod of majestic orcas that I'll never forget. We went on a rainy cooler day and we had the best time. The boat ride alone was super fun and i had a perma smile the whole time. We stayed about an hour and had a snack on the beach. It's a black sand beach and be aware of the large driftwood thats washed up on the beach, they can be a bit dangerous. Ruby Beach was a stop I missed during my 2023 Olympic trip. This time around, I made sure to add it…read moreto my itinerary. Driving over from my lodging in Quinault took about 50 minutes. Along the way, I stopped at some other coastal overlooks and made Ruby Beach the grand finale. On a September Wednesday, the lot was nearly full. It was a nice day-not too chilly with the sun out. Later on, the fog rolled in and made the scenery even more dramatic. It was a lovely coastal walk. The sea stacks were amazing and even though the tide was coming in, I managed to see a few sea stars. To get to the beach, it's a short downhill path, with a gentle grade. Although it's super popular, if you walk far enough, there's solitude to be had. Ruby Beach lives up to its hype and absolutely worth visiting while on the coast.

The only drinks they had was one flavor of a sports drink. No supplies of any kind, either, so don't think you'll stop here to grab something you would need camping. The store is 99% clothes and shoes, nothing in a big/tall size, with some trinkets at the register. The woman working the register seemed to struggle to ring us up (friend grabbed that beverage as he was super thirsty), telling us that the internet is really spotty out there. Parking lot was full of pot holes.

Crystal-clear, brilliantly beautiful water…read more Lake Crescent is famous for its blue-green water and is one of Washington's deepest lakes. Surrounded by mountains in every direction, it's almost impossible to take a bad photo. Even in the heart of summer, it stays quiet, calm, and incredibly peaceful. You can swim, kayak, chase waterfalls, and hike around the lake. Trails range from easy strolls to challenging climbs. I highly recommend Marymere Falls, which leads to a beautiful waterfall, and the Spruce Railroad Trail, where you'll walk along cliffs, through old tunnels, and past the famous Devil's Punch Bowl. The water shifts color with the light - turquoise, sapphire, even silver depending on the sun and clouds. The lake itself stretches 12 miles long. The shoreline is largely undeveloped, with just a few hotels and restaurants. Make time for the historic 1915 lodge, a perfect snapshot of old-school National Park charm. Pro tips: the north shore is quieter if you want to escape from everything, and the west side delivers the best sunsets.
