I don't want to make this a five page review, even though JP Heating & Cooling deserves it…read more However, I think more detail is useful. The owner Jim, is a professional and a technician. My old Rheem furnace was going to be 29 years old in February. It had done its job and heated my 3000 ft.² 108 year-old home sufficiently, over the years, save for four years ago I had a scare in the middle of February when the temperature went into the single digits here for a week. It just died. I called one of the radio HVAC cos. Big mistake. They did not try to restart my furnace. They said I had to replace it. I called someone else and had it restarted and it lasted four years. I decided to replace it this winter before it broke again. I reached out through the Yelp search tool, and had six different well-known local HVAC companies contact me. I didn't select any of them, and instead I requested an estimate from a company who had done Plumbing work for me, that year. They came out and took photos of my furnace, and gave me a very thorough estimate and suggested that I get a heat pump to replace the air-conditioning unit outside, because a heat pump is more efficient, and the unit was getting near the end of its life cycle outside, and there were rebates offered by both national fuel and the federal government they were going to expire at the end of 2025. I inquired about replacing the humidifier and he said the 15-year-old one I had was fine. They spec'd a Carrier system. I also reached out to a company that emphasized its 25 five star reviews on Yelp. They came out took pictures of the old furnace too. They told me that they really don't do heat pumps and I should just replace my unit outside with a standard air-conditioning unit. The owner informed me via writing that I could either get a Heil or a Tempstar furnace. They are the same unit, and they slap whatever plastic name tags are available??? I did discover that this was partly true. I then somehow found JP Heating & Cooling and decided to call them and they were very easy to schedule an estimate. Jim, the owner came out. He asked me about the air in the house and did I feel that it was clean and that the humidifier was working. And I told him no. And he told me what size furnace I should get and I definitely need a heat pump outside to replace the HVAC unit. He also said I needed a new humidifier and he also said based upon the size of my house the 8 inch ductwork downstairs was not sufficient and that I needed to get 12 inch ductwork around the furnace to make the unit work more efficiently. I asked him why he didn't photograph the furnace and he said because "I measured down here, and I don't need to see what you had, to know what size furnace you are going to need! So of the three estimates that I received, JP Heating & Cooling was the highest by 20%! However, I knew they were going to do a lot more work than the other people, and I trusted them to do it right. He spec'd all Trane equipment. He ended up putting a 5 inch filter in. They ended up upgrading the circuit breakers in my one year-old 200 amp panel. He rewired everything. Jim's dad even came in one day to do work! It took approximately four days straight to complete the installation. BTW, We were never without heat very long! They probably worked an average of 8 hours a day. The equipment is impressive and well-made. The heat pump outside is substantial. More so than the Carrier Heat Pump. I am very happy that I hired JP Heating & Cooling. I would never hire anyone else to do Heating work ever again. I probably used a half a dozen different HVAC people here over 35 years. If you need your system upgraded, you've got to call Jim. They will do it right. I am going to hopefully get over $5000 back and rebates and tax credits so it helps minimize the impact. He has been back to my house a couple times to adjust the humidifier. He even suggested that I may need to get a steam unit and he would give me a credit towards the old unit and adjust the bill if I chose to move forward. But he thinks the house is so large that it's doing the best they can and I agree with him. How many contractors would give you a credit towards a three week old humidifier? Hire them.

Their technician told me there was a CO leak (cracked heat exchanger) and we would need a new boiler - about $7,000. I had Nowak come in for a second opinion and the Nowak technician informed me that such CO leaks were usually due to the heat exchanger hot air channels being clogged and that the channels could be cleaned out. The tech noted that there would have been a water leak (there wasn't) if the exchanger was cracked. The tech cleaned the channels, but then noticed that one of the boiler burners was misaligned and that this was the actual source of the CO problem. Nowak charged me for the re-alignment of the burner ($64) and waived the channel cleaning fee, which was hundreds of dollars. Super competence and super honesty! Can't say enough. We will be using them for now on.

Here is the story: My furnace stopped working on the Christmas Day, due to a pressure switch issue. Called around town, only Roy replied my phone call, and scheduled a visit first thing next morning. Then early in the morning, Chris called me before arrival, and ran diagnostic immediately. He confirmed my speculation and it was indeed because of a bad pressure switch. He changed that quickly, meanwhile, gave me some education about my 18-year old furnace and parts, how to maintain it and Check for signs of issues. Everything was done within less than 1 hour. Lastly, the bill was not that expensive as I experienced before, given such an emergency call after Christmas. Parts cost is comparable to those online or local shop, labor fee is reasonable. I shared my story of being extorted for the same issue with 2-3 times of the cost compare to Gamin's, Chris said "we don't do this type of stuff, wanna make sure customer are happy and comfortable living in their house, and we can sleep well at night.". This past Friday, I came home from work to…read morefind the thermostat reading 61 degrees and the weather prediction calling for record freezing temperatures all weekend. My husband reached out to New Era and reported the problem - it was after 5:00 pm and the woman he spoke to took his number and said she'd get back to him. We had little faith that we'd hear anything back, but were surprised to receive a call back within the half hour with the news that John would be over within the next 20 minutes. John was professional, friendly, and went above and beyond. Our furnace was beyond repair (It was 20+ years old), but he somehow got it to partially operate to get us through the weekend. He also assisted in getting our fireplace going so that we would have adequate heat. We made arrangements to purchase a new furnace (at a price that was considerably lower than what we had been quoted by T-Mark a few months earlier) and promised that he would be back first thing Monday morning. He wouldn't accept payment for the service call that night. On Sunday evening we received a phone call from Bev who was calling to check on us, and to confirm that John would be over at 9:00 am on Monday. We had about a foot of snow that fell overnight and my husband and boys were out shoveling at about 8:00 am when John arrived. Rather than leave and come back an hour later, or sit in his warm truck, he asked if they had an extra shovel and helped them clear the driveway! John got quickly to work removing our old furnace and installing the new one - he also replaced the humidifier filter and made sure that everything was operating correctly. While i pray that we won't have another heating issue anytime soon, I intend to contact New Era again in the spring to replace our AC unit. I would also wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone else with an HVAC need!
