I really enjoyed my first stay here last summer so we booked again for this summer. Due to an injury I had to cancel my reservation within their 14 day no cancellation policy window. I asked for a manager hoping for some grace on this because I felt like they still had over a week to fill the spot and if they kept 100% of my fee and also booked it out they would be making double profit. I understand the policy but as a business owner myself I also make exceptions to policy and try to work out issues to keep customers happy. That is not their approach. The person I was working with tried to get me to a manager so I could discuss it but whichever manager she talked to would not even take my call. As a consumer, even if the answer is going to be no I think it's extremely rude for them to straight up refuse to talk to me. I almost never post bad reviews, and I think the poor woman at the call center was put in a bad spot by her manager, who apparently told her to just blow me off and they could not be bothered to talk to a customer. It's a lovely spot but I can't recommend a place with this poor customer service. read more

Pretty campsite with amenities, but literally in houses backyards. Sites are close to each other which isn't the most ideal, especially when people do not abide to the quiet time hours and have no respect for their neighbors. The staff is very friendly, but there is no one enforcing quiet time hours at night so people get loud and rowdy, even after 10pm. Many are super loud before the quiet time ends at 7am which was extremely rude, laughing loud, kids screaming, cooking loudly etc. If you come on the weekend, expect to be surrounded by very loud, obnoxious people that have no sense of decency towards others. People were leaving fires unattended and going to sleep without putting out the fire, which is both extremely unsafe and annoying for others that get a ton of smoke coming into your tents. I don't know if there is a camp host, but if there is, they are not doing their job at all. The showers and bathrooms are ok, nothing to write home about. They could do with some upgrades but you have hot water and some privacy. The back tent only area is nice, more away from the more loud annoying people, and you do see deer and sometimes bear. But if you like to have a more outdoor and nature experience without people that have no respect for nature or others, I would not recommend this campground. read more

This place was a pleasure to stay at. Location might be a bit far from the popular curry & Yosemite village but it being a bit further off makes it more secluded and quiet. The camp is right next to the west entrance of Yosemite National Park. Each campsite is decently spread apart from your neighboring campers. A perfect amount of trees where theres enough for shade during the hot summer and where the sky is open enough for Star gazing at night. The sites are clean and well maintained. Restrooms are in the center of the site which is shared with everyone. Not the greatest but it's enough for everyday doing. Enough parking for everyone. The only downside about this campsite is, some of the sites are on a slope which makes it tough to sleep or set things down as it rolls away. But other than that, I'd definitely come back and camp out here! Recommend this place to anyone that loves camping outdoors read more

Had to say I came here expecting a different experience. As a preface i usually come camping in places like mammoth with the intent of getting up early doing allot of hikes, biking, kayaking and allot of exploring outdoors and being able to just chill and relax after in my campground and be able to get a good nights rest. I'll start off with the positives: Positives: Clean Hot showers Very friendly staff Negatives: -Camp sites very close to each other -Camp grounds in middle of a residential neighborhood -The quiet hours are not enforced at all! This is what kept me up. We had night after night of groups partying and screaming until 1-2am keeping me us up. Then another group that got up at 5am making a lot of noise waking everyone up. -they don't strictly enforce the fire policy -they don't strictly enforce the food policy as there are a ton of bears roaming at night breaking into peoples cars because of all the food being left around. If your looking for an experience camping in the quiet nature with a good nights rest don't come here. If your the kind that likes to just sit at the camp site and party all night this is the place for you! - read more

The location is perfect! It seemed we were camping in the middle of nowhere but just 2-3 minutes' drive are the restaurants and other amenities. Bathrooms are clean with hot showers ,touchless faucets and soap dispensers. I was impressed that our "rustic" cabin has a heater that actually works! First time here this summer! Planned a family camping trip. A total of about 30 people went. Rented three campsites because we needed three bear boxes. The camp sites we got weren't too close to the bathrooms so definitely will take that into consideration next time. And it was also in the beginning of the camp site where there's vehicles driving by a lot so that's also something to consider if you're reserving near the entrance. OVERALL THIS CAMP SITE IS BEAUTIFUL. We rented an 8 person RV which we put on camp cute number 2 along with about 7 different tents and the ranger allowed us to park all our cars on campsite 3. They were super cool about that because they have regulations where it's only 2 vehicles per campsite and I think 2 tents per campsite. They have showers and bathrooms. Showers are clean! Bathrooms are clean! Super cool. It does get busy in the morning so make sure you wake up early to catch your spot in line! Over all 4 stars! Knocked off a star because the couple that reserved next to us complained about our noise level and ranger told us we had to keep it down. It's 3pm in the afternoon. And there's 30 people. There's bound to be some noise. read more

Just leaving a comment. Have not been here since I was a kid in the 1950's! I was run by the City of Los Angeles Parks and Rec as they (Dept of Water & Power) own huge amounts of land up there. Back then there was a "Chow Hall" that served 3 military style meals signaled by a bell, which were included in the fee. Staff organized entertainment at the Lodge in the evenings and outings during the day. The Hot Creek Breakfast was my favorite. Hard boiled eggs made in gunny sacks suspended in the boiling creek water. One year there was a prop gold mining camp there from the movie "North to Alaska" (1960). Wish they would have left it there. Many fond memories from the many Summers we spent a week there. read more

Rustic cabins and camp sites. There is a building with flush toilets and showers and another with just toilets. It is on the edge of town with entrances both from town and from the Lake Mary Road. This camp has been here for over a hundred years but still in good shape however, a location that was distant from town when it was first built is now right next to houses. That doesn't bother us but it may bother others. The cabins are primitive with just beds and an electric light and one or two outlets as well as a heater. There are spaces with closet rods to hang up your clothes but no doors on them. We like it because it's close to town. The facility is operated by the same people who operate Mammoth MOUNTAIN. read more

We camped for an extended weekend and had reserved 3 campsites. It's not like other campgrounds where you pick your site so I called ahead to ensure we had 3 next to each other, which we did. They were located next to the dumpsters at the entrance (campsites 1 - 3), which I wasn't thrilled about but it was fine. The campground is clean and the staff is very friendly. They have a shower house, a few bathrooms, and a few water spigots. My only complaint is the size of the bear box. It's not as big as those located at Twin Lakes or Sherwin Creek, but we managed to wedge the cooler and our food in there. We had to prop the cooler up, but it beats a bear breaking into your truck. Overall it's quiet, we had no issues with thief, and had a very enjoyable weekend. The campground is centrally located so you can walk up to the road to catch one of the trolleys or to Twin Lakes. read more

I have been visiting Mammoth for years and somehow I missed Camp High Sierra. This campground has been around since 1921 and has plenty of camp character. I can't say enough about the staff. They might just be the friendliest and most helpful staff I have ever met. I was greeted with open arms and left feeling like a proud cub scout who just earned a badge for lodging. I would like to give credit to Roland and the entire staff for their great service. They saw to it that everyone enjoyed their stay and camping experience. To top it off on my last day the car battery died and the crew jumped at the chance to help me out. The campground has a spacious common room where campers can gather around the fire, play an old piano, choose from many board games or start a ping pong tournament on the two ping pong tables. There are plenty of bathrooms and a very clean and well maintained shower house. You can chose between a camp site or a handful of basic wood cabins. The wood cabin was a welcome sight after spending the previous night in a deluge. The rooms have wood floors, windows and doors to lock up. The room I was in was set up with 2 bunk beds and 2 twin beds, a table and chairs and closet. The cabins also get their own fire-pit and picnic table. The cabins are huddled together so you will get to know your neighbors if you are hanging out outside. This works perfectly if you have a big family or party and are using more than one cabin. The campground is on the outskirts of town and is adjacent to a residential neighborhood of custom cabin style homes. There are other campgrounds in the higher elevations if you want more distance from town. An advantage to this location is that you are close to "civilization" if that's what you and your group prefer. It;s important to know that the cabins themselves do not have plumbing or running water, also that the beds have a basic mat and you must bring your own bedding. For those who complain about this, need I remind you that you are Camping. In my opinion it is the best deal in mammoth because you get a cabin that sleeps 6 at half the price of the cheapest hotel during the busiest days. This campground has everything you need and will give you that classic camp experience. Think Camp Inch in The Parent Trap. (The original) Safe travels! read more

However, they don't enforce camp rules: coolers are out when people are away from their campsites and overnight, campers go to bed with fires still blazing, and generators are around in spite of the rules to the contrary. We complain to well-meaning desk people, but the maintenance people don't do anything about the problems. No wonder that bears roam the campsites at night. read more

Staff (especially Gina) were super attentive and helpful. Campground was full but other campers were polite and respectful. Easy ride over to the lifts/bike park and brewery. It creates an awkward experience for both customer and resident. i just got back from a three day trip at Camp High Sierra. After reading the reviews, I was excited and a little concerned about having items taken. For our group, we had a fun time and nothing was missing. Each area is ample and though the next spot is close, it's not that close. My tent was about 30 feet next to the adjacent camp. -Pollen: The first thing you might notice is the yellow pollen everywhere. It's all over the place. Be sure to keep your food covered. - Fire pit/BBQ grill: Each area has a fire pit surrounded with rocks and and old school bbq grill. The grill was dirty but you can get a grill topper at the nearby supermarket so your food doesn't touch their grill. You need to get firewood and you can but it from them. It's a better price than the Von's nearby and they deliver it. We got 3 bundles for the weekend. - Bathroom/Showers - They have a few bathroom and showers throughout the site. Be sure to bring sandals or slipper for the shower. - Bear safe container - Each area has a bear safe container. If I recall it's about 3.5' wide, 3.5 feet deep and 3.5'~4' tall. Enough to house 2 coolers. Here's my tips if you're staying here. - Keep your cars close by. Our group had 3 cars and their was adequate space. Be sure to keep your food in your cars if it doesn't fit in the bear safe container. - Keep your valuables safe. Keep them out of sight in your cars. - Taking out the trash might be a bit of a trek. Also, if the dumpster is full, you might have trash fall on you so I prefer the top loading dumpters. -Smores. Most people will want smores so when you go the supermarket, don't buy too much chocolate. We got a 6 pack of Hersey bars but it was way too much. It's better to buy a big bar or buy a few singles. We're home now and left with a big bag of marshmallows, graham crackers, and 4+ bars of chocolate. read more

This review is for the camping cabins (no plumbing), of which there are eight (8) available for rental. We were there during the end of July with a reservation of three (3) nights at $50/nt. GETTING THERE First, driving there is somewhat confusing. The Camp is off a paved road, and you have to look for their sign that's back from the road. (There's also a dirt forest service road off of Lake Mary Rd that is steep and its use is discouraged by the staff.) Once on the dirt road, you'll drive thru the campground (campsites and RVs) to the office to check in. Check in was easy. They were expecting me. There is a $5 deposit for the cabin key. CABIN #4 I walked over across the dirt road to the cabins, and according to the campground map, they are lined up into two lines, so it looks like there would be privacy (sort of like how a RV Park does it). Nope. The cabins are basically in a circle, so there is NO privacy. If you want privacy, the basic cabins are not for you! (Try the cabin with plumbing for $75/nt.) I opened the door and I'm not sure what I should have expected, but it wasn't that. The cabin was just a box built with plywood walls and a wood floor. The walls were literally plywood with a coat of paint. The front door did not have weatherstripping and I could see daylight around the edges. Smoke poured in in the evenings and mornings from our green-wood-burning neighbors. The cabins have an overhead flourescent light and one 2-plug outlet that's located 2/3 up the wall. Mornings consisted of me piling boxes on top of my cooler so that I could balance the coffee maker on the top box so that its cord could reach the outlet. I didn't have enough outlets for my cell phone, a nightlight (for my son), the radio clock, and my coffee maker. I ended up plugging in and unplugging things every night and every morning. Quiet time is from 10p to 6a. Well, my neighbors probably thought they were being quiet, but the walls are so thin that we heard them talking all through the night. My son couldn't get to sleep til 11p or later, and we were awoken to someone chopping (green) wood right outside our front door in the mornings. Needless to say, we were tired the entire time we were there. The rule for cleaning out the cabin is to sweep before you leave. When we got there, the 3-inch foam mattresses had dirt on them, and there was dog hair on the floor. (Dogs are allowed in the cabins.) I don't think the last person swept anything. There are six (6) single beds in the cabin, and two (2) of them form a bunk bed. My son wanted to sleep on the bunk bed, so I climbed up there so read him books. The top bunk mattress is supported by slats and any sort of pressure in voids made me sink. There was also a huge board hitting the middle of my back; not comfortable. The single mattresses on the other beds are supported by a full sheet of plywood, so those are much more comfortable. All the mattresses are covered by plastic. I didn't open the windows, but I noticed from the outside that the screens were ripped. BATHROOMS There is a conveniently located bathroom near the cabins with flush toilets. Unfortunately, of the two stalls, one was out of service and it didn't as if it was going to be fixed anytime soon. This is a sink, but no soap. And the paper towels kept running out. It was not stocked well for the number of people using it - the cabin folks and some of the campers from the campground used it. Lines formed a few times. There is a shower area there, and though we didn't use it, I peeked in. It looked clean; the tile was clean, the floor was clean. I think there were four (4) stalls with curtains. SURROUNDING AREA What can I say? This is one of the prettiest places I've been. And there's so much to do! Kayaking, hiking, biking... Mammoth Lakes is bike-friendly and has many paved bike paths. We left one day early because I couldn't stand not being able to sleep at night. We'll be back, but I will not stay in those cabins again, and probably not even to Camp High Sierra. I erroneously thought that a place owned by LA Parks & Rec would be clean and run well. I was wrong. I can kind of see the appeal of Camp High Sierra if I didn't have 3-year old with me and I was with a group of 20-year olds. But those days are long gone, and I need a minimum amount of sleep in my old age :) read more

The cancellation policy is pretty rigid. My son was hospitalized just prior to the start of our trip and they would not cancel or postpone our reservation, so we were out the full payment of our stay, and we didn't even get to go. I suggest going somewhere that allows for cancellations or postponements. I would even be fine losing a deposit, but in this case it was the whole amount. read more

My family and I have been coming here for years. Mammoth mountain has taken over and Julie and her staff has made amazing changes for the better. The customer service of the front desk especially Joyce makes you feel right at home. The restrooms and showers are well maintain by Bryan. Geoff, the supervisor is always around making improvements to the cabins and sites. We love hanging out in the lodge at nighttime near the warm fire. We rented one of the cabins and for the price it was perfect. There were 6 in our party so the cabin had room for all of us comfortably. There is a small restroom near by with toilets and a sink (which is convenient at night), or the larger restrooms with showers is not that far away. Getting there was not to difficult if you pay attention and read the signs. The camp staff was friendly and helpful with local directions. We were there in Sept. the last week they were open so it was quiet. There are plenty of activities in the area Hiking, Fishing and some great Mountain biking at the bike park (Mammoth Mountain). The cabins are not fancy but are comfortable and keep you dry if it's wet out. they do not have plumbing inside, there's no kitchen, jacuzzi, T.V. or Phone. If your looking for these type of amenities then Camp High Sierra is not for you your looking for the hotels or condos around the area. If you like to tent camp this is for you, it's similar to tent camping without having to pitch a tent. read more

This camp is not what they advertise. When you look at the map of the campsites it fails to show that there is a neighborhood backing up to several campsites. Essentially you are camping in peoples backyards. This to me is not a camping or wilderness experience. For the price of the campsites I would not expect to be sleeping in a site where I wake up and people are watering their lawns and gardens 15 feet away. Awkward! The staff was nice enough and the facility is clean, however they really should show that the campground is indeed surrounded by homes so we know not to book the sites behind them. read more

Camp High Sierra has been home away from home for two summers now. Built in the 20s and recently managed by Mammoth and June Lake owners, this camp ground is a littlle gem in the heart of Mammoth. Hot showes, fire pits, and tables. Large sites in a wooded setting including about 7 electrical hook ups. A lodge includes basic games and yoga sometimes. Firewood available for purchase. 2 miles from Twin Lakes, .5 from Gondola, 1.2 miles from Vons. Staff is fantastic. Joyce has been on site for years and has great history. Dump station, fish clean station too. Kitchen and dining area available for rent. Basic cabins too. Great for family reunions. Basic campground with a great family feel. We like a bit more privacy when we camp (tent camping). We felt like we were camping in someone's back yard. Our site was right next to the entrance and someone walked right past our tent in the middle of the night. However the staff was very friendly and caring. The bathrooms and showers were in good shape. The wildlife comes out at night, black bears and coyotes. Also a convenient location with The Village and Mammoth Lakes close by. We enjoyed our stay; we just felt more in the middle of a neighborhood than in nature. read more

Beautiful scenes of mountains, trees-great place for sylvan insta pics!! The camp itself has bathrooms, lodges, cafe, and the office very close to each other. Not a lot of walking however there are no actual trails on the campsite itself- you have to drive out the campgrounds for activities. The showers also BURN LIKE HELL when someone flushes-typical. I would recommend no more than a 3 night stay here. read more

We go to Camp High Sierra every few years. It's gorgous and I love to see the bears and such in and around the camp. We always tent camp so we don't expect much except water, clean showers and a nice camp area. We've always received that. My only complaint is the price of camping their has almost doubled over the past few years. read more
