Ok the good and the bad with the new ownership/remodel. Love how clean it is and the patio is better than before. Don't love that weekends are buffet only. Loved having Saturday or Sunday to go and just order from a menu. Too much food for us and our kids mid day. I also do not like the beer menu. No light pilsners, only 1 local beer, when there are so many awesome breweries in Sonoma county I really liked knowing before that Pliny was on tap as well as the Kellerbeer. Service is good though. This roadhouse tavern boasts local character in abundance. The food and drink aren't bad either! I wish it was closer to home so I could count myself as a regular. The bar has been in operation for a very long time, but it has been kept up pretty well. It's currently owned and operated by Hopmunk, so you'll naturally find a good selection of their beers on draft for a good price. When I was there, they were playing old style country music which kind of completed the picture. They serve good pub style food. Burgers, fries, fish and chips, ect... The food was just fine to be honest, but combined with the atmosphere and friendly service, it's a real gem. My only note about lunch was the fish tacos had too much sauce on them. Bordering on a dive, and I love a dive. They have a sizeable outdoor patio (dogs allowed) and plenty of AC'd inside tables. I'm a huge Irish coffee fan, but dives don't usually have coffee. Twin Oaks has a Keurig! I've been saying this for years! Coffee was hot, hubs beer was cold. I had the Korean bowl. A little spicy and the beef was so tender. Twin oaks is a road house out in Penngrove. I placed a phone order yesterday and drove down to pick up and was ready when I arrived. I ordered the mushroom/swiss burger with fries and the Korean bowl (comes with a side of black beans). My hubby enjoyed his burger, cooked to his specifications. My Korean bowl on the other hand was just ok. When I opened took the lid off the bowl, I noticed the plastic rim of the bowl had broken and fallen into my food (see photo). The flavors were overly salty, spicy, tangy. I guess I was expecting more bulgogi style that is sweet. A hour later, I was dying of thirst!!!! Too much salt!!! On a particular day I was feeling like eating a battered fish taco, and we decided to swing by Twin Oaks because I knew they were in the Hopmunk family and Hopmunk has great fish tacos. When we arrived, it was quiet in the bar area and we placed our order with Janae. I of course ordered the fish tacos ($12) and chips with salsa ($9), and hubby ordered the Nashville hot chicken sando ($18). Janae looked at us like we were growing 5 heads when we declined to order drinks from the bar, at a bar establishment, but you know I was there for the tacos. We decided to sit in the back area under the patio and took in the scenery. They have a large entertainment space in the back for music, and even what looks like an additional outdoor bar in their "beer garden." Although we ordered chips with two salsas, they neglected to tell us they only had one salsa, and the one that they had was pretty lackluster. The chips also were under salted and were really oily, so the combo was terrible. When the food arrived, it was even worse than the starter. My fish tacos were filled with comically large looking filets, which I hoped meant a lot of fish. I took a bite and was left with a mouthful of barely fried dough, soggy and slimy in the middle, with a mere sliver of squishy fish inside. I kid you not, the batter was 5 or 6 times the size of the fish and the sheer size and density of it meant the batter was raw and totally uncooked inside. Unfortunately, both tacos were served this way and completely inedible. Probably the worst, and most expensive not-to-eat fish tacos I've attempted to consume in my entire life. Hubby's sando was somewhat better, but also very soggy, extremely oily, and the sauce tasted just hot rather than flavorful. We left frustrated with the extremely low quality of this food, and honestly surprised that the Hopmunk family of locations is willing to associate themselves with food of this (lack of) quality. Absolutely horrendous food experience and a really sad thing because Penngrove deserves better. The manager needs to enact some improved food training in the BOH and implement quality control before dishes like this go out because I'm certain if I tried to eat that dish I would have become very ill. read more

I stopped in here for a late lunch or early dinner. I don't know what you wanna call it. But it was around 2:30 in the afternoon. I ordered the Mole tacos They ran a special 3 tacos for $16. That's kind of a lot for a tacos, but I expected it. They looked really good but the only problem was they weren't tacos. They were taquitos. The differences are: tacos, are one or two tortillas with a good portion of meat. Taquitos are a rolled up crispy single tortilla with just a little bit of meat. The sauce was good, but it was kind of disappointing that I got something different than I ordered and something different than advertised . On the other hand, that was plenty of parking and clean bathrooms. I got served really quick so it made me think that these were premade and they just put sauce on it. It tasted OK it wasn't bad. She was an absolute joy to work with throughout the entire process and made everything easier than I had hoped for. Every bite was just as good as the last. Amazing! We enjoyed every bit of it! Our server was very attentive and on it when it come to the extra things we asked for like hot sauce. Ambiance was so chill in their back patio, I'd love to come back here when it's warmer out and see the live bands that play. New owners, new food menu, much expanded beer menu, totally remade back outdoor patio, nicer dining room booths, the funky strings of Christmas lights and the billiard table is gone. The Hopmonk group really has improved this place. While this is still not a fine dining, drinking and dancing establishment, it is a fun night out where you dress casually maybe even wear your cowboy boots & hat. The $13 roadhouse burger on a pillow soft brioche bun was delicious. Small side bowl of home made Cole slaw was crunchy fresh and seasoned right. With a big glass of Hopmonk Hefeweizen $6, this was a classic bar food meal. Bambie & I came to hear the Bloomfield bluegrass band. April 2019 they play every Friday 8pm to 10pm. Local guys who can really rip. Good instrumentalists and singers. Bluegrass ain't a big draw, only 15 people in the audience but smiles all around. Price is right, too - Free! IMHO, this is where you discover the real Sonoma county. Healdsburg luxury wine tasting? That's our Disneyland for rich adults. Love this spot and we love the atmosphere. Please have people with dogs go outside. Dogs do not belong inside an establishment, where food is served. I sat at a table next to people who brought their whiney smelly dog inside. A standard poodle was also at the bar and a man trying to get to the bathroom tripped over the dog. it's a lawsuit waiting to happen. I have three dogs who live inside my house, I would never even consider bringing them to a restaurant. Y'all need to set boundaries. Great outdoor dinner option for families. Yes, families! While the interior is a wonderfully grungy dive bar, the patio is a lovely place to spend a warm autumn evening. We went on the earlier side, so our kids wouldn't be too disruptive. The food is a pared down version of HopMonk-- the fried chicken sandwich and roadhouse burger are my faves. The wedge fries are the ideal amount of crispy, while the salads are surprisingly tasty given the standard for dive burger fare. Definitely a cut above...and less greasy. I avoided buying tickets online to not have to pay the service fee; thinking if I bought at the door I could save a few bucks. Fake News! They still charged the fee and couldn't explain why. If you want to generate more revenue then just say it, don't call it some BS fee. The second part of my rant has to do with the upcharge on beer during shows. What the heck is this? The beer is already over priced and it is served in a plastic cup? Come on people, if you are upcharging me for beer it sure as heck better be in a glass. Too many people you say? Woke up still dreaming about this joint right down the road. My mind is still blown that I've never heard of this place and it is just a 5 minute ride away from me. I'm wondering where to even start on describing this place, I had such a great experience! My boyfriend and I were having a beer at Henhouse when we realized the food truck was gone. We ran into some friends and they recommended Twin Oaks. We took their rec and drove on down the road just 3 minutes and there it was. We entered through the back and it was all lit up and a really nice space to enjoy your time there in. We then entered inside where there was a nice littler wrap around bar we sat at, along with some tables, booths, and tucked away on the other side of the bar, a stage and dance floor with more seating. There was an incredible live band playing and the crowd was loving it! We each ordered a meal and were both happy with the outcome. I had a Pliny off draft and my boyfriend got an old fashioned- he didn't love it, but I'm still giving the 5 stars. When we were done eating, we went to the dance floor. Did I mention they're dog friendly!? The three of us did a little dancing before taking off. The staff were all friendly and the overall experience at Twin Oaks left us itching to get back.
