Chicken sandwich is juicy, crispy, and he even makes his own buns! Love the fresh cut fries

Great addition to the Petaluma Golf Center with incredibly delicious food! We got the chicken sando and Yanni sausage with fresh cut fries and were amazed with the portion size and flavor. They also have a great selection of beer and wine which you can enjoy on the patio or while you're golfing. Love this place -- we always come back for the staff, food, beer, and golf!

    Fried chicken thigh sandwich!

Great chicken sandwich. Fresh not frozen chicken thigh, crispy lettuce, just awesome. 10 bucks!!! Great outdoor patio. Also get some golf in while you wait for your food. Very great staff!

I don't write very many reviews and will try to keep this short and sweet but something tells me this review might be a few paragraphs :) had been searching for a convenient, inexpensive, and fun venue to hold a family gathering/Dad's 60th birthday celebration for 20 people. I called several places but nothing seem to fit the bill until I came across the Petaluma Golf Center and Sonny's Grill while surfing the net one night. There were very few reviews of the place but I did manage to see a photo or two of their newly renovated patio and thought that perhaps this might just be the perfect spot. I called and left a long winded message with tons of questions and within a few hours heard back from the owner (I'm horrible with remembering names but I think his name is Tony). He assured me that I had found what I was looking for and that he would turn this over to Emily. Emily runs Sonny's Grill and after she and I discussed my tight budget and the tight time-frame, she reassured me that she'd make things work and that I could relax and stop searching for a place because I had found it! She called me back that same evening (granted this was on Monday and the party was for Saturday) and layed it all out for me -- food options, fun options, and beer options -- it was all good! Saturday came and was a huge success! Aside from the glorius weather, the family had a grand ol' time eating chicken wings and hot dogs, sipping on cold beer (okay, sipping lots of cold beer) and hitting the golf ball while trying hard not to look like a bunch of amateurs ;). I can't say enough good things about this experience! Emily has a super positive attitude that really helped put me at ease. Aside from being really sweet, she is energetic and so easy to work with. Tell her what you are looking for and she'll take it from there. She is definitely passionate about what she does there at Sonny's Grill and my hope is that you'll give this place a chance and help it grow into a new Petaluman favorite. I met almost everyone there and the crew is really friendly and helpful. Whether you are looking for a place to just hang out, hit some balls, enjoy a nice cold beer or a place to hold your next family birthday - give them a try!

Sonny's Grill just reopened this season at the Petauma Golf Center.

A really good burger. Which makes sense for a burger place. There should be more good burger places that are labeled after a burger.

We were fortunate enough that two adjacent tables were free so they were able to push the tables together and seat our party after a quick wait. Service here was attentive, and I appreciate the table-side cheese and fresh cracked pepper offering after you entree arrives. The top-up on the table bread throughout the evening was nice as well. The food was my biggest issue at Trattoria Roma. While the meatball appetizer was delicious -- super tender, seasoned well, and sauce was tomato forward with just the right amount of tartness, the pasta dishes missed the mark. The texture of the house-made gnocchi was not what I'm used to. When the gnocchi arrived, the gnocchi held its form just fine. However, no more than a few minutes into eating the dish, the gnocchi lost its shape and turned into mush, and the whole dish took on the texture of cheesy mashed potatoes. The pesto sauce I opted for with the gnocchi was heavily diluted and the whole dish needed more salt. My wife's clam linguini dish had overcooked noodles. It's a shame because the clam flavor was quite good in the dish. For a family of four, our dinner came out to about $150 for four pastas and two orders of meatballs. I wouldn't say this was my favorite meal in Downtown Petaluma.

Our waiter was super attentive and friendly, and I have to say service was great! Everything came out in a timely manner. We started out with a glass for Chianti Classico, which is a red wine. It was good, but it was warmer than room temperature. Ive been to Italy and had amazing Italian food, so the bar is set very high for us. We ordered the burrata, spaghetti carbonara, and penne salciccia. The burrata itself was very cold, the balsamic glaze that it came with was hardened, not really smooth where you can dip the burrata or prosciutto with. Having said that, the prosciutto itself was really good and the arugula made it that much better. When I order pasta, I expect the pasta to be al dente, and unfortunately both pasta dishes were too well done. The taste of the penne salciccia was actually very flavorful, and i enjoyed the sausage. The spaghetti carbonara was super heavy and buttery, maybe a little more than I'm used to. Overall, the dishes were tasty but I prefer my pasta to be al dente.

The linguine with clams were terribly gritty with sand. Couldn't finish it,. despite a great flavor balance in the sauce. The Lasagna Bolognese was very good. Rich meat sauce with bright tomatoe flavor. Good balance of cheese to pasta. All in all, a very enjoyable entree. The Fettuccine Alfredo is my 9 year olds newest favorite pasta. We'll have to come back just for this to keep him happy. Next time I'd like to try an appetizer or salad, but we were in a bit of a rush. They did a decent job dressing up a strip mall store front with some Italian American ambiance. The indoor red striped awning spanning the kitchen window is a nice touch, but it wouldn't kill them to dust it once in a while. The complimentary mixed bread basket and cured olives were nice to nibble on while we waited for our entrees. The olives in particular had a nice chili spice to them.

Incredibly awkward to walk into the restaurant with family from out of town to be told we never made a reservation. They were able to accommodate us on both occasions, but it's truly a jarring experience to try to pull up phone logs to prove you called and spoke with someone. Did I mention this happened twice under two different names? Long story short, takeout is the way to go here. You won't be disappointed with the gnocchi with meat sauce (plenty of other delicious sauces to choose from), bruschetta, salads, and desserts. Some of the specials are hit or miss. As for the ambiance, it's in a strip mall next to Wilco. If you can look past that, it does feel like a cute small Italian restaurant on the inside. The dealbreaker is the service, unfortunately.

It did not seem like an Italian dish, but it was tasty. The garlic bread was really good and i love the cheese on it. The eggplant Parmesan was different than others I have tried. It's served like two big pieces of eggplant that have been breaded, fried, and covered in melted cheese and marinara. It was delicious! It came with some spaghetti and marinara. Speaking of their marinara, it's a sweet and chunky style that tastes totally homemade. It's not the kind of marinara I grew up with but I liked it a lot. The best dish was their bolognese. I love the flavors in this dish. A good bolognese tastes likes its been summed for hours and this had that wonderful home cooked quality. Next time, I will have dinner at the restaurant. For food alone, I give it five stars!

The calamari was subpar. The chicken parm was tasty and the garlic bread stole the show. I wish there was a bit more pasta with my chicken parm. It just seemed like a small portion. We were disappointed with the fettuccine Alfredo because the prawns were basically baby shrimp. Very misleading because prawn usually indicate large shrimp. And we paid an extra $10. The food was okay but for the pricing they could stand to give bigger portions so you can feel like you're getting more bang for your buck.

The menu is on the smaller side - a few options each of appetizers, salads, pastas and entrees - and a couple of specials. We went with the bruschetta trio (the winner of the entire meal) and chose the traditional, the prosciutto and the salmon of which the traditional was the favorite. The entrees were ok. I went with the chicken piccata which was not prepared in the traditional manner of pan-frying the chicken; I'm guessing by its white anemic color it was maybe poached separately first before being added to the piccata sauce. The sauce was missing the acidity of white wine and lemon (although I'm sure they were in there) and even the capers couldn't help punch up the flavor. Between the underwhelming seasoning/flavor and the chicken missing that crispy exterior the dish just didn't deliver. My partner's salmon pasta Alfredo was also just ok, again it could have used more seasoning and the sauce was so watery it was impossible to get it to coat the fish and the pasta. I can see why a lot people enjoy Sugo - the food is good enough relative to the very reasonable menu prices and the staff is great; just know that at least some of the dishes deviate from the traditional preparations. Next time I'd stick with the bruschetta and add a salad to round out the meal.
