Great service and delicious sundaes!!! I love that they serve Giffords as well. Nice seating area, plenty of parking. It's a fun place to gather and eat some delicious treats. Such pleasant people that own and run this business! I love it. You had me at Sundae! A very generous "small" sundae that was gigantic!

    dairy free options too

One thing I've come to learn after living in Maine for two years is that Mainers loooooooove their ice cream! When I don't have a pint of something at home it's great to have places to grab a cone or a sundae when you're out and about. Happily, Twin Swirls has stationed itself--in an actual former gas station--on Brighton Avenue, where I frequently end up running errands. If it's a weekend or bright sunny day you'll likely find a line-up, and with good reason: Twin Swirls does all of the ice cream basics and does them perfectly. Various portion options and sizes for everyone (including dairy-free if you need it), and you can't go wrong with the classic twin chocolate/vanilla swirl in a cone!

I have been meaning to stop at Twin Swirls for ages. I've heard so many good things about this neighborhood spot! First off, the staff was super friendly and kind. Possibly the owners. They had smiles for everyone and seemed to know a lot of the patrons. The window is decorated with cute signs and their menu items, and there are a bunch of picnic tables to sit at.. I had a small vanilla soft serve with butterscotch, crunch coat, and whipped cream. Super tasty. They also have a huge menu of Giffords hard ice cream flavors too (yay for local ice cream!). I'm not sure if they're open too much longer, so I'd recommend getting there soon!

This ice cream was so good! We got something similar to Dairy Queen's "blizzard" and it was actually better. The service was great and they have an outdoor seating area!

This area of Portland was in need of a hood ice cream spot and Twin Swirls delivers!!! I don't know what makes one soft serve better than another but what I can say is this rivals Red's in SoPo for BEST soft serve in the Portland area. I have been here now both on my own and for a Yelp elite event and both times my ice cream was delicious, served promptly, and we enjoyed sitting in their lit up patio area. The Cupisic brownie sundae is NOT to be missed! The homemade brownie was exquisite. I can't wait to go back and try the affogato! They also sell locally made adorable earrings. Definitely our new go to ice cream spot!

My daughter loves the Açaí Nutella bowl...she gets it very time...and I don't blame her...it is so good! I however like to try something new. This time I tried a half & half. You can get two different smoothie bases in one bowl and select any bowl topping. I tried the Nutella Bowl with half mango and half Açaí. It was so delicious! I enjoyed this so much because of the multiple flavors, and textures. The fresh fruit, the crunchy granola, and the sweet Nutella are the perfect dessert! Both the açaí and mango bases are sweet, which I love, but I could imagine pairing a less sweet base, like the banana, with a more sweet base like mango. I'll have to try that next time. Also just have to say that the bowls/toppings are exactly as shown on their website/in app...it is really amazing how the photo and the real thing match exactly. Very impressive quality control! They do have a loyalty program...which I just signed up for today (probably should have done this sooner), and a mobile app for mobile ordering. I only gone there in the evening and it has not been busy so our order was ready really fast every time, but I could see using the mobile ordering during busier times.

I want it so thick that it's only very nearly impossible to suck up through a straw. Also, it can't taste only like bananas. And finally, it can't have chunks. So, so many places in Greater Portland just don't have what I'm personally looking for (creamy, flavorful, and thiiiiiiiiiiick)... but Playa Bowls does. Listen, I know they're a chain, and I know they're way too trendy for someone like me, but the smoothies are done right here. I've tried a couple: 1. Orange Power (orange, pineapple, coconut milk, sub their usual protein powder for the vanilla plant protein powder instead): It's like a creamsicle from when you were a kid! I would really like to try other smoothies, but this just keeps being my go to. Sure, it can be a little gritty from the protein powder, so if that's not something you're used to heads-up. I am, so it's barely noticeable. The 90's called and they want their summer back, and I'm here for it! 2. The Dang (banana, wheat grass powder, peanut butter, cinnamon, almond milk): I wouldn't usually order something like this, but it was so much better than I was expecting. Rich, earthy while still being subtly sweet, and really hearty for a smoothie if that makes sense. Absolutely would reorder! I think the two biggest challenges/negatives here are that a) the music can be overwhelmingly loud (if you get sensory overload, prepare yourself) and b) the wait times can be loooonnnnnnnnng. I've seen some people on other Playa Bowl listings across the country complain about the price, but here in the 207 some of you are paying $10 for two bites of an overpriced hand roll. I'd much rather pay $9 (16 ounce) to $11 (20 ounce) for a filling smoothie. And they're currently open 8am to 8pm. Where else can you get a smoothie past 4pm in Maine? Go ahead, I'll wait. #WelcomeToPineappleLand

In search of a Sunday coffee my wife and I decided to come in and check the lattes out. Looking at the menu prior to our visit we did consider trying the smoothie bowls but a few reasons deterred us from doing so. The prices for the size you receive didn't seem worth it. The heavy use of almonds and the fact they can't guarantee being almond free made my wife hesitant too. The inside is spacious, welcoming and beautifully designed while remaining simple. I was surprised it wasn't busier considering this! Definitely felt like a spot you could enjoy a smoothie or drink and chat with friends or family for a while or watching the world outside the window. Street parking was easy enough to get right out front. Staff when we ordered were not un-friendly but also not overly friendly. More welcoming and friendly could make for even more memorable and nice experiences. Latte wise my wife got the Cinnamon Bun Latte while I got the Cookies & Cream Latte. Firstly I will say both the lattes we chose come with a housemade whip which is very delicious but much thicker than typical cold foam/latte toppings. They also make the syrups in house which is great and the taste was phenomenal. Both lattes nailed the flavors they were going for with a slight edge given to the cinnamon bun being better. Overall a great spot aesthetically with solid lattes.

Some people working the counter at Roots are super helpful and friendly, and others are not. The price point here is also high. Oola bowls is a chain brand that originated in Pennsylvania with this being the first location in Maine. Despite that, technically their second is already in works and should be opening soon at Monument Square in Portland as well. My wife and I were excited to give it a try as they had finally opened about a week ago. They offer online ordering so you can have your drinks and bowls ready for pickup when you arrive. That's what we did and had zero complaints and even substitutions or any allergies needed to be mentioned is super simple. Loved how easy it was for customization so you can get exactly what you want. We walked into the store and both workers were extremely friendly and welcoming and along with that service both our bowls and the bag had notes from the workers too. While simple little messages to us they were that added little touch that makes customer service great. They do have some tables inside if you want to enjoy your food or drink inside and even looked like they had some games available to play while waiting or enjoying too. Firstly, drink wise my wife got the strawberry matcha lemonade which was great and had a great balance of matcha and lemonade. I had their blueberry ice tea and it was phenomenal as well, would get it again often! Bowl wise we each got a different açaí based bowl. You can see the size difference of their small and large in my photos. We loved our bowls and even would go as far as saying we prefer this spot over another closely located chain bowl spot. All of the ingredients used tasted fresh and were delicious, the granola used was so good and one of my favorite parts was the peanut butter they used. Both food and drink wise we were very impressed and happy with. Check this spot out!
