While the atmosphere is nice, there's parking right outside, and you don't have to wait long to get a table, I probably won't be back. The food was lackluster. The location of Twisted Noodles closer to Target in Durham is much better, even though the inside of the restaurant isn't as nice. Let's get this out of the way first.. it currently shows on the yelp page that you get $5 off a $25 bill if you mention you saw them on yelp. Well that was news to our server, who insisted they have no deals at all with yelp. This was especially annoying considering we ordered extra food just to reach the $25 threshold. So here's your warning if you plan to do the same. Onto the food.. this was my first time at the Chapel Hill location after a couple visits to the Durham one. I thought the food was comparable. We got the chicken satay, pad thai and drunked noodles. Pretty fair on pricing, portions are decent, and food is tasty as well. My gf who is a bit of a twisted noodles fanatic thought it wasn't as good and a bit too oily. They also didn't have the pickled jalapenos in the pepper tray which made her sad. Do ask for the peppers if you go there because it significantly enhances the food, especially if you like some kick. Service wasn't great even before the offer refusal. It took them several minutes before they even acknowledged us and asked for drink orders. I also went far too long with an empty water glass which was particularly problematic due to my heavy-handedness with the peppers. If this rating was for the food alone, it'd probably get another star. But all-in-all, I'm not sure I'll be in a rush to go back after that experience. read more

do not waste your time here! I decided to check this spot out as it was within walking distance of the University Inn. It was essentially the only non-sandwich or pizza option in the area. I ordered the vegetarian pad see ew. this consisted of thick rice noodles, broccoli, fried egg, and tofu. the dish was plain sloppy. the tofu pieces were HUGE and oddly shaped/cut. this is not how you serve tofu. in addition, I've had pad see ew in the past; the noodles should also be cut to an appropriate eating size and should not be the size of linguine pasta. I was truly shocked at the quality of this dish as this is a chain and in order to have functioning branches, people must like your food. plus, this restaurant is very structured via social media and this is definitely misleading. lastly, I paid $12 for a vegetarian dish in a strip mall. coming from chicago, this is excessively overpriced. read more

This place felt a little more like a takeout joint to me than a sit-down restaurant, but decor has never really stopped me from trying out a restaurant before. I went recently for a quick meal after work, and I enjoyed the experience. I ordered the volcano chicken, and it was great. My girlfriend ordered some Thai chicken dish and asked if it was spicy -- the waitress said no, and when it came it was admittedly pretty spicy. My girlfriend didn't enjoy the experience at all -- she couldn't finish the dish because it was too hot for her liking -- but for my part the volcano chicken was incredibly tasty and I'm giving the waitress the benefit of the doubt that she didn't rate what was served to us as spicy. A man came in and tried to panhandle off of patrons while we were there. This isn't the restaurant's fault or anything. I just viewed it as entertainment with my meal. I'm gonna chalk it up to a plus. That said, my giant plate of chicken made me feel like a viking and I decided that I am a fan of Twisted Noodles. I will definitely be back. Unfortunately, I think I'll have to find someone else to go with, though. So remember, kids: If you want to feel like a viking, go to Twisted Noodles. If you're not looking for the Thai-flavored glory of Valhalla, then go somewhere else. And of course, if you order something other than volcano chicken you probably won't feel so much like a viking. After moving to Chapel Hill from Seattle (where there's amazing Thai food), I'd searched for a place to satisfy my Thai food craving without success until (at last!) Twisted Noodle. Twisted Noodle serves terrific Thai food. Like one of the other reviewers, I find the drunken noodle and their curries to be especially top-notch. I've also enjoyed their soups and dumplings. I am especially a big fan of their take out. They are always fast (the food is usually ready within 10 minutes of my call) and friendly. But underlying all of these service issues, which could be remedied with just more experience in the new space, the food is below average for Thai food - specifically all of the meats were tough and overcooked and the sauces were inconsistently seasoned - some overpowered by a particular ingredient, and some lacking any character whatsoever. The food actually gets more than 3 stars- probably like 4.5. The pad-thai is one of the best. Great flavor- a little on the spicy side, perfect texture-not too dried out, and garnished with peanuts and a lime wedge. The only think that could make it better would be more bean sprouts! they give a measly amount for the size of the portion. but the taste-muah. The drunken noodles are another favorite. the service is another story, which is why it gets 3 stars. the quality of it decreases exponentially with each additional table that's sat. so if you want good service, do not go when it is busy. go before the dinner rush. otherwise, just get your thai iced tea to stave off any low blood sugar grumpy attacks (happens to me when hungry) and be prepared to roll with the punches. read more

This was my first time coming here, and I have to say that it was a pretty mediocre experience. One good thing that stood out to me was that Twisted Noodles offers a free vegetarian appetizer upon checking into Yelp, which I thought was a great way to both promote business and let customers try out appetizers that they usually won't. My friend and I ordered the Spicy Wings that were advertised on their bulletin board, as well as the Thai Rolls from the free appetizer offer, and two entrees: Chicken Pad Thai and Chicken Pad See Ew. The appetizers came out in a timely manner; the spicy wings were kind of on the dry side and small side. On the other hand, the thai rolls were hot and fresh out of the deep fryer. However, the order only came with two. Okay, now the entrees. Honestly, I did not like the Chicken Pad Thai much. I've had Pad Thai dishes from other Thai restaurants, and this one didn't really compare. The sauce had a slight ketchup taste to it, a taste that I haven't had in Pad Thai before. They gave large portions of egg and chicken, but barely any bean sprouts or green onions. I think I had about 3-4 pieces of bean sprouts and green onions in the whole dish, which was very disappointing. I didn't try much of the Pad See Ew, but I enjoyed the one bite that I had. The sauce was much better than the Pad Thai sauce, and the noodles were well cooked. Ultimately, I think if I were to come back, I would not get the Pad Thai. I've only been here twice, and was pleased to see on the second time that yelp and Twisted Noodles offered a free appetizer upon check-in. I think this is a great way to try things I wouldn't normally try, and our appetizer got us a free order of Twisted Thai Rolls, which were basically just their version of an egg roll. In addition to those, I also ordered an order of fried dumplings to try out. I was surprised by the texture of the dumplings, because it seemed as if they were steamed dumplings put into a tempura batter and then fried, making the outside crispy, but a soft squishy wrapper texture. It was a little perplexing at first, but I think towards the end I gradually grew to like it. The rolls were all right, nothing special or different, just your typical thick skinned vegetable-filled egg roll. For the main course, I ordered the chicken pad thai while my date ordered the chicken pad see ew. For those of you that don't know the difference, pad see ew has thicker, flat noodles in a more savory sauce and no egg, while pad thai is eggy and has rice noodles tossed in a slightly sweet sauce. The dish overall was much more savory that I had expected and lacked that nice tamarind note that I really look forward to. In fact when I took a bite of it I was extremely shocked and thought they had mistakenly tossed my noodles in pad see ew sauce on accident, but after asking about it, it turns out thats just how its made there. I might go back to try some other things, but not for pad thai, which is such a disappointment because pad thai is one of my favorite dishes. It's hard to find good, reasonably-priced Thai food in Chapel Hill. Twisted Noodles delivers it. Their curries, Pad Thai, and Pad See Ew are all pretty tasty, the appetizers are good, and the Thai iced tea rocks. The food is relatively inexpensive, which is good if you're poor, which is likely if you live in Chapel Hill. The service has been pretty good the times I've visited but the atmosphere of the restaurant is sort of weird and the location suffers from a lot of traffic problems. For strip mall Thai in Chapel Hill, Twisted Noodles rocks, but for a more gourmet Thai experience, look elsewhere in the Triangle. read more

I've ate here several times in the past couple of years, and each time it's a disappointment. Although I'm not too familiar with Thai food, I have a pretty open palate. Something about their food always seems off or bland. I've tried their Red Curry, and frankly, it disappointed. The food came out quite lukewarm and unappetizing. I understand with the coconut it's supposed to taste sweet, yet it was too sweet for me. Almost annoyingly sweet. I wanted an entree, not a dessert. I've also had their lunch special noodle soup to go. It was $8, not bad for lunch. When I got home however, the soup was tiny. Twisted Noodles is a corporation with locations in North Carolina & California serving mostly Thai dishes. With the name I thought it would have Italian dishes too, but not they do not. Prices are a little too high but you do get large portions. Even though I did not get what I ordered (chicken Pad Thai) I still ate what was brought out to me(tofu Pad Thai) and enjoyed it. After reading the mixed reviews and on my way home from work around lunch time, I decided to give Twisted Noodles a try. I ordered the Beef Pad See Ew and a bowl of Tom Kha Gai, two of my favorite Thai dishes and pretty hard to mess up. The Pad See Ew was, well...ew. It was swimming in some sort of oily sauce and had no flavor, aside from the crunchy black chunks of burned gunk that I encountered between undercooked cold noodles and rubber beef. The soup had no Thai flavor and boasted a few sorry mushrooms swimming in watered-down coconut milk. I figured they must be having a bad day and resolved to go back later and try their curry, which got rave reviews. The curry did bump the review from one star to two, but it was only acceptable and not very flavorful. For 10 dollars for the lunch special plus a soup, I was not impressed. The service was very friendly and I feel awful writing a bad review, but the food is just not good. Sorry Twisted Noodles, I will keep looking elsewhere for my Thai food fix. read more

This may not be a reliable review seeing that the day I at this place I was coming out of surgery at Duke, and normally when you go in for a surgery you can't eat or drink anything, and boy was I BLOODY HUNGRY. But if it helps, my dad suggested this place because he and my mom went and ate there the day before and said it was good, so I said to myself: 'why not!?!' For those who are into the decor thing when it comes to your restaurant experiences I'd say this place gets an A+ for it's very modern yet simple setup with the bold red colors, lighting fixtures on the walls and straight lines. It's definitely a hipster/college kid hangout. But then again the general area that its in is very upscale so I wasn't too surprised to be honest. Even thought my dad was the one hanging with me I was the only eating and so I kept it simple and ordered the Tom Kha Noodles with chicken and yes, it was delicious and light even thought it did fill me up perfectly. The coconut milk broth was steaming hot, and you could taste the slight acidity of the Kaffir lime leaves that were in it. The chicken was tender and juicy and went perfectly well with the broth and the rice noodles. Service wasn't the best I've experienced seeing that sometimes the lady originally serving us would be allover the place in the little restaurant, but my food came out in a timely manner so I wasn't really tripping over that. Came out here on a Saturday night and it wasn't too busy so this place hasn't been fully discovered yet. I got the stewed beef noodle soup and it was good, a little on the salty side but probably as good as you'll get in the area. Also had one of their curry dishes, could've used a little more meat in it but otherwise it was okay. The prices are pretty reasonable, the noodles and curry dishes were about $10 each for decent sized portions. I would definitely recommend coming here over some of the other more expensive Asian chain restaurants in the area. First, let me say that the food is very good. I felt compelled to order noodles given the name of the restaurant. The menu is lengthy and not as well-organized as it first appears: there are many overlapping categories, so you may find your desired dish in a different location than is logical. Past that, the descriptions are quite good, so I was completely satisfied with my order. I split the spring rolls and the drunken noodles with my friend. This is the type of place where I would recommend finding something small to start and then having an entree. The portions could never be considered small, but it's more fun to try a variety of flavors. For example, the spring rolls had basil in them whereas the noodles were in a sweet-tinged rich brown sauce. Now to the experience. I'll be forthright and say that the service is awful. Our waiter was clearly in his training period, which is understandable, but he needed some guidance that he did not receive. At one point while we were in the middle of ordering he kind of wandered off to another table just because one of our party members was taking a second to decide. On top of everything, he didn't speak English. It was all slightly elevated as we had been seated at the table right next to the cash register, and there was always some crisis breaking there. All of this wouldn't stop me from eating here again for the food, but I hope I get a different staff when I do. read more
