We came to Twisted Noodles for a work lunch. I was a little nervous because of the Yelp reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised by the yumminess. I got drunken noodles and it was enormous--it was a pretty solid take on a classic. Maybe not the most innovative take on the dish, but it was exactly what I wanted. Prices were great for the lunch and we got a miso soup with it. Also had the tempura veggies which were great. Would definitely return. read more

I have been eating at twisted noodles for the past 4 years. The service has always been great and their lunch specials are awesome. My favorite is their Chicken Pad Thai. The Fried Chicken Garlic Rice and Thai Basil Chicken are also really good dishes to try. They are my go to dishes when I am really hungry and with the new management a lot has changed for the better. The ingredients are a lot fresher, the rice noodles are a lot softer and the chicken is a lot more tender and flavorful. They also upgraded their chicken satay; is it so good and one of my favorite starters. I love that they are adding more to the menu like fried sushi. I am madly in love with their Penang curry chicken! It has everything, vegetables taste nice fresh, the chicken is tender. This dish is for people who like just a little bit of spice. The sauce is so good And with some brown rice it is a complete meal along with Thai coffee. read more

The food was good, but this place lacks a Friday night plan. I called in a take out order and was told 25 minutes. I walked in after 30 and my food wasn't ready. There were two people in the restaurant. One guy in the back with his back to the restaurant working on the register and a girl rushing in and out of the kitchen. Who do I ask about my order? Your guess is as good as mine. I eventually snagged the girl as she rushed past me for the 3rd time, and she told me 10 more minutes but it took them 20. In an age when everyone can write a Yelp review from their phone, you can't have five people standing around in your tiny restaurant waiting on take out orders, getting in the way of your sit down customers, watching you get orders wrong, and seeing customers come up and ask you if anyone is going to wait on them. Save this place for a weeknight. read more

Two stars instead of one because really it wasn't dirty it gross or anything, it just wasn't good. This review is about the Chapel Hill location ( since I see some for Durham as well). First, they were out of the Thai rolls that come with their lunch specials. He says are salads OK? Well, seeing as how the options are salad or Thai roll, sure. The salads are pathetic - a small pile of the white chunky parts of a head of iceberg ( the parts you throw away at home) and a huge mound of dressing covering it completely with a few julienned carrots too. The entrees came very quickly (we were in and out in 30 minutes). I had the pad thai with chicken. Yes, the most Americanized Thai food there is, you'd think that would make it easier to make. Nope. It was heavy with this odd tasting almost gravy of a sauce on it. Nothing like any of the pad thai I've had literally dozens of other places. The noodles were under cooked and there were really no veggies or eggs in the noodles. There was an ample amount of chicken and the option was fine for a lunch special. My husband had the yellow curry and felt like it was decently spicy. Nothing special or awful. Overall, I wouldn't go back. This was pretty much fast food junky Thai. read more

Three and a half stars. Not bad at all, after having tried a few disappointing Thai restaurants in the Triangle. Although my sense of smell and taste were a little muted at the time due to a lingering cold, a take-out order of Drunken Noodles with chicken and Penang Curry with tofu was quite tasty. The noodle dish had a slight bitter taste from the overbrowning of meat/veggies and could have used more spice and basil, but the noodles were soft and the amount of sauce was just right. The curry was a little thin and tasted a bit one-dimensional; more sweet than having the nutty depth and richness I was expecting. Overall, the flavours are a bit dialed down from what they could/should be, but at least Twisted Noodles attempts authenticity. Service was friendly and fast, and food portions weren't meagre. Due to the proximity of this location to my house, I will probably be back to try other dishes on the menu. read more

The first thing you need to know is that you should get the Yellow Curry Twisted Noodles. Only glance at the menu to determine what sort of protein you want. I've gotten the chicken, tofu, and extra veggies. All have been solid choices. I think it's funny the number of people who don't seem to like the food but didn't get the twisted noodles. The general rule should be that if the restaurant is named AFTER a dish, you should probably get THAT dish. I've been here with people who didn't heed that advice and ordered dishes they were lukewarm about and then tried a bite of my dinner and immediately regretted their own decisions. The prices are good and you get a TON of food on your plate. I mean you could probably split an entree comfortably but then you'll have to share twisted noodles... which I'm not sure I am capable of. I almost always end up with leftovers unless I arrive either incredibly hungry or after a rather lengthy hiatus from the restaurant. These leftovers are just as good the next day and usually don't make it past breakfast the next day. I've always experienced good enough service when I'm here. However, I've never come at a time that they were particularly busy. Perhaps service is less than desirable at the dinner rush. Overall this is one of my favorite restaurants in Chapel Hill. read more

It's more than decent, with a good selection of dishes that arrive after a reasonable amount of wait time -- I've been there several times and never had to wait too long. I noticed that they get a lot of takeout orders, as there are always people there coming in and out picking up their orders... I got the yellow curry noodles with chicken. First off, this is the spiciest yellow curry I've ever tasted (other than the time I made it at home and thought I was supposed to dump all of the yellow curry paste in....). Observations : this place had about 4 tables full at 8:30pm on a Wed, that's a decent sign. Also they had a ton of ppl coming in to pick up to go orders.. so it took 20 minutes at least for me to get my food (since I didn't call it in). Everything tasted fine but the chicken was WAY too dry. If this is the "chef specialty" ( written on board) or whatnot, seems like it should be very close to perfected. It was grossly (?) dry. I've only been a couple of times, but each time I got the Yellow Curry Chicken. YUM!!! I love having extras when I get home. The dish is pretty pricey at 9.95, but I think it's worth it if you have left overs. The place is pretty modern looking inside, simple furniture and decor. Nothing distracting to the eye. Each time I've gone I've been seated right away, and it was around dinner time that I've been. I love this place! From the outside, and even from the inside, it doesn't look like much. Classic case of under promising and over delivering. I've only been here twice, but everything we ordered on both occasions was delicious. The dumpling appetizer was small, or as my boyfriend put it, "3 dumplings short". The only other downfall is the size of the place; it's really small so big groups aren't a good idea here. Really bad. The tofu delight was hard on the outside not crunchy not crispy, not delightful in any way. The Tom Khar was salty and brown color not creamy and spicy like Im sure it should taste. Pad Thai noodles appeared to be chopped up , definitely pre- made way too long before I ordered. -very little chicken, the sauce sweet and bland and the two or three bean sprouts and scallions were old and withered. Large offering of gluten-free and vegan foods. The menu very clearly states that almost all the dishes can be made gluten free and vegan. The waitress filled us with confidence when we told her we were celiacs and needed gluten-free food. We didn't even need to use our Triumph Dining Cards at the restaurant because she knew all about the hidden sources of gluten in Thai food and was aware of cross-contamination issues. The restaurant definitely gets an A for offering such a large selection of safe gluten-free and vegan foods. I just wish that the food had lived up to my expectations. Don't get me wrong, the food was not bad, it was just not excellent. It was very pedestrian and lacked the subtle interplays of spices I'm used to in Thai food. There was heat without depth. I would eat here again if I were with my celiac kids. They would be overjoyed at the novelty of being able to eat almost anything on the menu and since my son sticks to the noodle dishes, I suspect he'll be happy with the meal. I would not eat here again if it were just me, or me and my husband as we have higher expectations of our meals. read more

Ordered the Tom Yum soup with tofu, an order of summer rolls with shrimp, grilled pork off the chef's specials, and beef drunken noodles. The soup was tasty, but I've never had a Tom Yum I didn't like. The spiciness was just the right amount for my wife, too. The summer rolls were skimpy on the shrimp and vermicelli but generous with the basil -- overall not bad. As far as the entrees go, the pork was pretty disappointing. The noodles were a little pastier than I like. Not too great. Thai iced tea was good here, but service was lacking. We tried a Laotian beer that turned out to be skunked, and my soft drink lay empty for the latter half of the meal without anyone's asking if I wanted more. Overall, if you really need some Thai food, the soup's good, and the rest is passable, but I'd try a few other places first. read more

By the sparcity of morsels in their noodle soups, one gets the impression of paying 85 percent for rent and 15 percent for food. For a striking comparison of the effect of rent on the quality of food, the next time you're in East Durham, try the House Special Soup for $4.75 at Tops China in The Village. It beats the $11 soups at Twisted Noodles hands down. read more

Take out service here is horrible. Over the phone, my order for spicy curry and nonspicy glass noodles got reversed. When I called to complain, they said "it was my fault that the order got mixed up and It's not their problem". Never going there again because 1) they were rude and 2) made no effort to remedy the situation. Other restaurants always made an effort to make the customer happy. read more

I've been a loyal customer of Twisted and have eaten here more times than I can count, but lately the service has gone way downhill. I usually get the Drunken Noodle (with pork or beef) which always tastes superb but I decided to try the Thai Spicy Eggplant special this time. We sat there and waited for 15 minutes until the only server waiting about 7 tables even noticed us and brought us water. After another 10 minutes, we flagged him down to take our order. During this time, 2-3 tables got up from having to wait so long to even order. The eggplant dish itself was wonderful and included several large shrimp, ample amounts of red and green pepper and carrot. My friend got the Beef Noodle Soup which was almost like pho but extremely over seasoned and salty. If Twisted only hired a hostess or another waiter, I would definitely give it at least 4 stars. In the meantime, I'll be ordering online and picking up my food. read more

I love Thai and this place is definitively good. My drunken noodles had some of the fattest egg noodles I've ever had. It was a bit difficult to eat with chopsticks, but I managed. It also was a good, filling serving size. The place was practically dead when I ate there around 7:30/8:00, but we got our food insanely fast. It could not have been more than 6-7 minutes. I'd recommend this to anyone living in Chapel Hill or visiting the area. Just note if you use your GPS it will be a bit tricky. This place is alright. The design of the restaurant makes me feel more like I am inside of a swanky British coffee shop rather than an authentic Thai restaurant. When I visited, the decor was so new that the picture frames were hung on the walls without pictures and my utensils still had their price tags on them. I was also disappointed to see that there was not a single item on the menu containing peanut sauce. My assumption is that as this restaurant ages, it will expand it's menu. Thankfully, they do have take-out and I live right down the street. When I'm too lazy to cook myself some curry at home, I may just call up Twisted Noodle to do the job for me. read more

Ok Chapel Hill-ites.... You now have your very own Twisted Noodles and it is just as yummy (if not a little yummier) than its Durham counterpart! Equipped with minimalist, modern decor and friendly staff this Thai haven serves up some of the most flavorful and spicy eats in this area. (order your food "Thai spicy" if you dare) I have only eaten the Thai Chili & Basil so far but trust me, I am a connoisseur and I approve! Their menu is similar to the one in Durham but they do have some additional interesting items in their "All Time Favorites" section of the menu which I look forward to trying next time! read more
