Tried this place for the first time today and OMG I'm already wanting to go back! This place has a very "Austin" vibe so I was a little nervous at first. I ordered the Ranch Hand and cheddar fries with bacon and it was soooo good! And the pickle bar?! I had 4 helps of the ranch pickles, I really could have done more! ok, so I'm in town visiting family, and you know Texans like their MEAT!!! Well this place has every kind of meat you could imagine (and some that would shock you!!) I'm a simple girl... chicken or hamburger is fine for me... but if you're in the mood for gator, or bison or beaver... then this is the place to go!! There are many other meats available, but I can't remember them all off the top of my head. My burger was DELISH! Cooked to perfection!! I also ordered the coconut shake which was AWESOME!!! What a playful restaurant! Went to the Twisted Root in Carrollton for the first time and really enjoyed myself. It's mostly a burger joint, but I've rarely had a better burger. I opted for the Big Tex, a huge Pattie loaded with fried onion strings, cheese, guacamole, and chipotle sauce. Thems good eats. I also was advised to get a side of peanut butter to go with the sweet potato chips and was surprised how good it was. My wife had the Cobb Salad and was suitably impressed. There were some really cool things about discovering this Twisted Root and some not so cool things. I like the fact that it's only 3 miles from my house. I like the creativity in making this a different twist on burgers and fries. I like the options in sodas. However, I ordered a blue moon while waiting for my order. The bartender poured approximately two ounces of concentrated orange juice in my plastic cup before pouring in the beer. Eeeww. I prefer sweet potato fries to sweet potato chips and that wasn't an option. I got a banana 'custard' shake for my son and it tasted like a big ol cup of whip cream. Gross. Big waste of $5. If you like buffalo burgers and billiards you will love it. Unfortunately, I do not. read more

First of all, let me compliment the burgers. They're freaking delicious! I normally do not eat the veggie burgers but I am glad to see that they have several options other than the typical boring veggie patty. They also have quinoa and chickpea patties. The service has always been pleasant and attentive. Brownie points to Leslie. She rocks! Now on to the negatives about this Twisted Root Burger. There are no back supports on the bar stools. If you plan to spend more than an hour sitting at the bar, be prepared to call your chiropractor in the morning. I believe the lack of back support is exclusive to this location because I am pretty sure the location in Deep Ellum has back support. The experience would be so much better if this location would install back support. I would stay longer that's for sure but I don't because I kind of like my back pain-free. Also, my other qualm about this place is the lack of piping in of the television sound system. What?! It's football season and I have to listen to rap and dance music instead? No, thanks. It's no wonder this place was dead during a recent Cowboys game. Twisted Root should reconsider piping in the sports games. I mean, burgers, beers, and sports are a winning combination. We usually eat at the twisted root in Richardson, but were close by. We got our usual orders; the spicy goat with bison patty and my wife got the in the buff. When the food came out, the wife's bun was totally soaked through and falling apart so we asked for another. 10 mins later we got an un toasted, plain bun back. There was hardly any sauce on my burger and there's no way to prove it but I'm almost certain neither of ours were made using bison - they didn't taste like our usual order. Great burger joint, the atmosphere is a ton of fun, easy to find too! All their burgers look and taste great. Fries and milkshakes are no exception. They also make their own sauces which are delicious. TV's are set up all around to catch the latest sports game. Great service too. The only down side about this place are the prices, although their food is good, I feel like it's a bit overpriced for just a fast food type of meal.....expect to pay at least $30 for two. Oh my gosh, yes. This place was AWESOME. The theme of the restaurant is just perfect, humorous, and very well done. You get a name for your order of a public figure or moniker of some kind, we got "Stacy's Mom"(Has got it going on) for our order and couldn't stop laughing when it was called over the loud speaker. Great choice for creative burgers in a down to earth, nothing fancy, but lots of fun environment. Had the Kevin Bacon, with fries and root beer of course. Burger was solid. Bacon delicious. Don't bother getting a to-go order, or if you do make sure that they actually put the right burger in the box. Burgers are good - but every burger joint in the world can get an order right. There is something very complicated about their ordering system which is time consuming and leads to errors. Twisted Root Burger is a great, casual burger bar. The interior has a Route 66 vibe with rusted corrugated metal siding and bumper stickers covering the walls. The burgers were great, I had he verde burger. The chilis weren't too spicy and the guacamole was great. The fries had great seasoning but they were cut very small. The watermelon tea was amazing, by far one of the best sweet teas I've had in along time. The shakes weren't anything to write home about but they didn't suck. I went to a branch of this restaurant at the airport once, & I really liked their selections. It was nice to find a branch that wasn't at the airport. It's in a cute vintage-looking downtown district of Carrollton, next to some lofty apartments with a parking garage, a walking trail park with some modern art sculptures, & a tram railway system. It was pretty busy when I came for lunch on Saturday, but they have a lot of sitting space, both indoor & outdoor. Once you place your order, you take a card with the name of some character (today mine was Nicole Kidman). They call out that name when your order is ready for pickup. They have plenty of restroom facilities, which contain multiple stalls. The restrooms are clean & well-kept. I really liked their "Vegabond" burger, which is vegetarian-friendly. They also make great peanut butter brownie shakes. It was a nice enough day I chose to sit outside. They might consider using more outdoor seating areas, especially shaded. They keep all the necessary condiments & napkins (on a roll of paper towels) in little baskets on even the outdoor tables. Also, the manager didn't forget to check on me while making his rounds. I've been to quite a few of these burger joints recently. The Twisted Root is decent but I wont be craving it. It's a cute concept. The expeditor got every one of our orders wrong though. The build your own is the way to go but somethings missing. Maybe I got spoiled by MShack in Jacksonville; they have quite the selection. Its a little loud. The high ceilings let sound carry so you feel you have to yell. You can't really even hear the music. The fries were OK. The sweet potato chips not so much.. I have not usually been excited to visit other Twisted Roots in DFW. Due to the whims of others I have eaten a TR burger about 5-6 times before trying the Carrollton location. Each of those times I had a nice, tasty burger, but nothing that would force me to make the drive past several What-a-Burgers to get to a Twisted Root. So in August of 2013, I had the occasion to be at a local car dealership for routine service twice in 10 days, both times around 3:30pm on a weekday. The Carrollton Twisted Root was a short walk from the dealership, so that won out over the dealership waiting room. Both times I ordered a 1/2 lb burger with cheddar. The 2nd time I somehow got bacon added for .99 on my receipt which I did not order, but, hey, bacon. The Good: I don't know if it was the fact that I was pretty hungry, but both burgers were really good. I'm a pickle fan, so grabbing a bunch of crazy flavored pickles from the bar was a treat. The Bad: In the heat of August I just wanted water. The 'free water' cup is too small, and that just resulted in too many trips to refill. Also, the water is in the same spout as a Hi-C like juice, so the water had the taint of another drink in it. A dedicated cold water spout would be nice, guys. The booths are too small. I'm a big guy, but nothing extraordinary, and I could not fit comfortably in this establishment's booth, a first for any restaurant I've visited, then, and since. Shame on you, Twisted Root. The burger came with a whole slice of onion, and 1 (one) lettuce leaf. And NO TOMATO. Once again, shame on you Twisted Root. But, even with these negatives I give this location of Twisted Root 4 stars. It was a tasty burger. Fix the ancillary stuff and you'll have a great location. read more

It's quite cool how they set this one up in what looks to be an apartment complex. As to be expected, the burgers are great. I'm a fan of their bleu cheese burgers for sure!
