We are the twoooo amigos! Okay so maybe this hidden gem of a winery is not named after one of my favorite comedy motion pictures of the 1980s...but what they are is an intriguing winery that focuses on the customer, especially their members. Located in the winding hills high above Glen Ellen in the heart of Sonoma's wine country, the namesake comes from two friends and partners Bob Briner and Squire Fridell. What makes the wines at Two Amigos Winery so unique is that the tastings they offer are done by appointment only as they give a tour of their entire estate and wine production facility and their tastings after their tour are complementary to visitors. Bob and Squire have known each other for almost six decades after being roommates in college. Two Amigos Winery is actually two wineries in one as their sister winery is known as GlenLyon Vineyards & Winery, where at one point all of the grapes they have grown on their estate were all outsourced to other wineries. After being unable to obtain a permit to make more wine of their own, they opted to obtain a permit to create a second winery with its own signature label. At Two Amigos, they make no fewer than nine wines, and through our guided tour from managing partner Bob himself, we learned that as a smaller winery they host a number of unique aspects from having all of their own equipment on site, including open air fermentation tanks so their wine ferments naturally with no yeast. This process may take a while longer for their wine to mature, but thanks to this process it not only picks up a nice color with a strong fruit-forward bouquet. After touring their laboratory and cellar that hosts their French oak wine barrels, we then followed Bob and his adorable dogs Theo and Stella up to their main house where they host their annual springtime pick up party for their members for an extraordinary tasting of no fewer than seven wines. Upon walking into their gorgeous estate home, we learned that all of their wines are crafted by a clown, a real one in fact as Squire is a retired actor and former pitchman who served as none other than Ronald McDonald himself in numerous commercials in the 80s and 90s. With a fun look at all of the memorabilia that he has collected as an actor over the decades and a truly remarkable hillside views of their vineyards that were not yet in bloom, but thanks to the abundance of water being stored and managed, it would only be a matter of weeks, before we were blooming. We headed to their shaded deck for our tasting, which began with their 2022 Vino Rosato, which is their appetizer wine, and on the slightly drier side but had a nice grapefruit finish. From there, Bob poured us one of my favorite wines of our tasting, their Viognier was a nicely chilled afternoon wine that had a real subtle taste to it, when paired with spicy cuisine could only add to the umami of your overall meal. For our third pour we enjoyed their non-okay and non-buttery Chardonnay, which was a real change of pace versus your traditional Chardonnays. With hints of green apples, we learned that this originated as a cool climate grape from the Parmalee-Hill Vineyards where Two Amigos also sources their grapes that produce their Pinot Noirs. Bob then had us delve into their red wines, including their signature Pinot Noir, which among all the wines, Bob taught us to swirl the wine in the glass by putting our hands over the top of the glass thereby locking in the bouquet and then when you are able to smell it, it completely changes the profile of the wine. When paired with generous amounts of cheese, this wine along with the next two red wines that we sampled, their Tirare il Dito and their Syrah, both grown on their estate. Tirare il Dito literally means "pull my finger" in Italian and exemplifies the humorous ways that the two amigos approach their wines. This wine was the only blend they source here at Two Amigos and was a highlight of our tasting. To finish our complimentary tasting, we enjoyed their Wee Moor Port wine, which was paired with Toblerone chocolate and was one of the sweetest wines one could enjoy. After ninety minutes of this extraordinary tour and tasting we realized that purchasing wine on the spot wasn't available if we weren't a club member. Not needing that much wine was our only regret as we weren't allowed to purchase any bottles of wine on this visit, as their Tirare il Dito and Wee Moor Port were real winners. But what we did get out of our experience at Two Amigos was a wonderful tutorial in how fine exclusive wine is crafted high in the hills of Sonoma, both Bob and Squire have achieved their goal of simply sharing their passion with appreciative visitors to Two Amigos Winery who love to sample new wines and take it all in, and at Two Amigos you will truly feel like a new best friend. read more

Cousins had called to rave to us about this winery they had discovered. I love everything that is old; old friends, old times, old manners, old books, old wines. So, heck yes. Archeological evidence of wine fermentation dates back 8,000 years. Evidence of wine production dates back 6,000 years. Considering the relative tools and "education" levels of the era, one should be able to infer that generally speaking, winemaking cannot be that difficult. But they were quickly won over by the in depth knowledge of our host, Bob. He regaled us with hilarious stories of him and his partner's friendship, love of wine and the trials and tribulations of owning a winery. Two Amigos is the hidden gem of the valley. They're a boutique winery owned and operated by two friends who were college roommates. They're now in their 70s and clearly enjoying life and loving what they do. Bob was an incredibly gracious host. One of my friends said, "I wish he could be my surrogate grandpa." He went through the whole process of how they make wine and then gave us a tasting on a patio overlooking their vineyard. Gorgeous scenery, and he is a master of conversation and fielding questions. We became members of the wine club on the spot. All of their wines are fruit forward and They were all delicious. If you're planning a trip to the valley, this is worth the hour and a half. Wine CAN be fun! No stuck up wino's here. The staff here is super friendly and they take the stuffiness out of wine tasting! I love the goofy paraphernalia they have around the store. Just look at the pictures of the owners on the wall! You know you're going to have a great time! But it all makes sense. One of the owners used to be THE Ronald McDonald for McDonald's! Wine tasting is only $10 per person for 13 tastings!!! That's right. 13!! And you can get a 2-for-1 coupon from one of the nearby shops or visitor's center. And they'll waive the fee if you buy a bottle. It's such a good deal! The wines themselves are pretty good. They actually feature a stainless steel chardonnay for those who don't like the oak flavor. I loved their 2006 cuvee! A really well balanced red wine blend. The bottles themselves are reasonably price and are about $30 or less. The day I went they had one of their older vintages 50% off, so I was able to get a bottle for only $10! Totally worth coming here. I can only aspire to be as hilarious and fun and fun loving as these folks. We walked into Two Amigos tasting room so full of light and lightheartedness and immediately felt at ease. Who said wine had to be snobby? They've got a dancing dog and whoopie cushions and gonzo noses and hilarious prints of themselves on the walls. The guys met in college 50 years ago and just tell a great story. They're so sweet and had a LOT of wine to sample. My favorite was the port (surprisingly) but they served it with this grand rich chocolate that gave me all kinds of new appreciation for the wine. Definitely stop here during your Sonoma trip. Another random stop on The American Wine Trail, through an alley, (we later learned is known locally as "Wine Alley" - do I have good instincts or what?) into an interior shopping district near the heart of Downtown Sonoma. The small tasting room just screamed fun and a good time to us. Well we went in and were anything but disappointed. This place SCREAMS FUN with the large poster size images of the two owners in various comical poses wearing Groucho Marx Glasses. The tasting room manager was very energetic and enthused about the wine she poured us. She even broke out some leftovers from their Friday night event they call "Junk Food Friday" where she did an amazing job pairing the Two Amigo Wines with Doritos and Fig Newtons. All of the wines were very good - so good we walked out with two bottles ;-) The first was not on the tasting menu - a 2013 Cuvee Classico which was a very nice blend of Merlot an Malbec - percentage of each was kept secret...shhhhhh. This was a great full bodied red that we enjoyed last night with Pistachio Gelato (we were bad). The other wine, a 2013 Syrah (surprise - lol) was just as big and bold as the blend. Tasting it, I could practically taste a big thick Rib Eye coming off the Barbeque and enjoying with this beautiful wine, full of the tannins I so love. The tasting started with a very fun presentation of a rather dry sparkling wine they named after the winemakers daughter, Lacey's Toast. Its an 80/20 blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The packaging was original and fun - it was wrapped in a sheer pink chiffon (possibly something else) to match the color of the wine. Did I mention the place was fun - well get this...one of the owners, who is also the winemaker was a Hollywood actor and played the starring role of Ronald McDonald for 7 consecutive years, being only the 2nd actor to ever play the role. You just know he has to know how to have fun. The two owners have been best friends since their freshman year at college. About 30 years ago, they pooled their resources and bought some land so they could have fun when they retired. Today, they have 7 acres planted that predominately Cab and Syrah. I believe they only produce less than 2,000 cases a year - certainly a small boutique winery. Incidentally, they own another winery as well...well actually its the same winery and the same vineyards all made with the same equipment by the same winemaker - but because of permitting, they could not exceed so many cases per year - and so they applied for a new permit and a new label to create more wine because the first label is sold out every year through their wine club and they wanted to continue to have fun selling to the public. The first wine is Glenlyon (maybe 2 words - not sure) and surprisingly it is just as good as the Two Amigos we tasted. So, if you find yourself in downtown Sonoma looking for a place to enjoy big bold red wines, then turn down Wine Alley and find yourself on a comfortable couch enjoying Two Amigos - I highly recommend it. read more

Friendly relaxed service, really cheap tasting, $10 for 11 pours, and actually became $5 with a coupon!. Pretty good unpretentious wines! This is the more casual and fun line from the same winemaker who makes GlenLyon wines. (You can tell it's more fun because one of the "amigos" used to be the Ronald McDonald clown from the ads, and his photos with those red clown shoes are around the tasting room.) All the whites, esp the sav blanc are very drinkable and slightly less alcohol content (12%) than some other wines. The reds were pretty good too, esp those from 2010 (a good year in Sonoma) and definitely the two "ports." We ended up buying the first port, the Wee Moor, and it went so so well with the milk chocolate. The Wee Moor plus already contains milk chocolate extract and was also delicious, but you can get a similar effect just by eating chocolate :) read more

Definitely visit Two Amigos Wines if you're visiting the Sonoma Square. Came in here and was greeted by a cute friendly white dog with a bed made out of a wine barrel. The shop is nothing fancy but the service is very friendly and also pretty funny. All the wines we tried here were very delicious and the 2013 cab they were pouring was very very tasty. So much so I had to buy a bottle, even though it's well over what I normally pay, though still much cheaper than other cabs in Sonoma or Napa County. This is definitely a fun tasting room and I'd come back with friends from out of town to show them a great tasting room. I really enjoyed how down to earth it was. My husband and I have been members of Two Amigos wine club since our first visit several years ago. And we have re-visited 3 times from the east coast since. Their wines are excellent in taste and in value. The passion that Bob and Squire have for the process and the product comes through in every sip. I highly recommend a visit to their winery/vineyard. Super friendly tasting room! We came upon this little place in a wine alley in the downtown area. It was super cheap for the tasting, $10 for 10 wines. I actually had to tell him to skimp on my tasting portions when we got to the reds, because I was finding it harder and harder to stand up straight, haha. They were all tasty, and we walked out with two bottles, which scratched the $10 tasting fee for both of us. The man who provided us with our tastings was amazingly friendly and told us about the history....super random that McDonald's Ronald McDonald created these wines-- so they had a clown theme. The pictures on the walls emphasized this point by showing their goofy and fun nature. Even though saying, "I don't support McDonalds", is putting it mildly, I can support wine. Hey, there isn't any steroids, antibiotics, or ammonia sprayed and processed pink slime in it, so it works! Definitely going back there to do another tasting next time I'm in the area! read more

An absolute must-visit in Sonoma for tourists; I'm pretty local (25 minutes away) and even I walked away very impressed. I had the benefit of being in the presence of one of the Two Amigos, Bob, who was absolutely spot-on in his sense of what I was interested in tasting. He was also extremely generous in his pours and I left not needing to go anywhere else! One could argue that the better the show at the tasting room, the less thrilling the wines - and Bob was a great entertainer. But the wines themselves were good to very good across the board (although your mileage may vary, of course). The Two Amigos Cabernet (2013) was probably my favorite of the bunch, but the others were close behind. The Chardonnay does well without all the oak and butter, and dessert wines - both white and red are available - are a special treat. A delightful place, very nice wines, and great pours. One of the better Sonoma Plaza tasting rooms and I'll look forward to a return trip next visit! read more

Places like Two Amigos are why I LOVE Sonoma (and don't go to Napa!). Three of us on my friend's bachelorette party were staying at the Swiss hotel and wandered over to this little alley before dinner at El Dorado Kitchen across the square. We were immediately greeted by Mulligan (their little Westie) and Bob, one of the two amigos. Bob then handed us off to his wife Kari whom he could tell we could talk about wedding things (my other girlfriend is looking for venues and Kari does wedding flowers/has good advice on venues). Also, it sounds like their wine club is pretty awesome..they took some wine club members to Italy, they do two shipments/pick ups per year, and you can choose/customize your package to what you like/want to try! The wines: My favorite was the first port (the one without the chocolate) Overall, I found the wines to be very good, and the process on a few of the wines were explained by Kari (steel vs. oak chards, etc) Pros: The people The dog The tastings/wine The value (TEN tastings for $10!!!) This was our first stop in town, and hands down the best experience. Cari was fantastic and so informative and helpful for us novice tasters. We tasted 9 wines for $10 - two were sold out (good for them). And in our group of 4, all of us purchased at least 1 bottle. (I got the Sauv Blanc). Cari also provided us with a print out of all her wines, their description and stories as well as room for us to take notes. Super thorough and a great experience for those who are looking to learn. Oh my gosh this place is too freaking cute! Had some time to kill in Sonoma so I just wandered around checking out different wine tastings. I stopped in because they had a $5 check in special for their wine tasting but I didn't end up using it since I joined my first wine club ever! Its so silly and unpretentious. The wines are fantastic and I love love love the co-owner Robert! His partner is one of the original Ronald McDonalds and has memorabilia hung all around the shop. There are silly photos all around and you get to wear Groucho Marx glasses and get your photo taken when you join the club. All their silliness extends to their wines too! They have one called "pull my finger" translated into French or something so it sounds super fancy until you find out what it means. Two Amigos Wines has become a favorite for my wife and I. We love to try all sorts of wines and learn about how they are made and so on. But, after a while the stories seem to run together. Then we tried Two Amigos! The wines were fantastic! My wife and I really are enjoying big reds these days and their Cuvée blew us away. I wish these two amigos were my daily amigos every day. While in Sonoma I had the sincere pleasure of visiting Two Amigos' tasting room. It was our second stop on an all-day wine tour we connected with through Sonoma Girlfriend's Getaway and they nearly kept us all day with their over-the-top entertainment. Walk up to the tasting room and find your greeting by a life-size cutout of one of the Amigos wearing a glasses/nose/mustache getup. There was a line of ladies ready to pose for cameras blowing kissy-face to this cutout and dare I say if I were their marketing person, I would charge $5/photo and make the most of this. **hint** heh. Step inside for wine and a show. The owners are just downright hilarious. One of the amigos was the original Ronald McDonald and the show that ensues is very clown-esque but also incredible. And not clowny in a scary way. Bc you know how I feel about clowns and it's generally not great. But here, clowns were your friend and clowning around made the experience all the better! The wines were served with sides of jokes and gourmet chocolates. That's basically a trifecta where I come from and I would recommend a stop here on your Sonoma journey times 10. And I can't wait to read your Yelp review, should you choose to write it, because I'd bet you a pair of fake mustache glasses that your experience will make your trip great too! read more

The place was tiny, but cheerful and sunny. A friend and I made this our first stop, I was a DD, but sampled a port or two.. We got a GlenLyon Petite Syrah to go and it was really good a few days later over a sushi dinner. read more

We wanted to hit up a fun place with some friends to taste some wines. The place was not over crowded, but there were a decent amount of people. Personally I like to interact a little more with the person doing the pours. That is part of the fun of doing wine tastings. I felt unfortunately, like it was just a let me pour these wines as fast as I can and get you out of here. Kind of disappointing. The wine was decent. Like I said above since I was so rushed, I really don't know much about their wines or their operation. The family who owns this clearly has fun. The place is eclectic decorated in the owners wearing Groucho Marx styles in funny poses. Probably not a place I would try again, but great location and different place for wine tasting in Sonoma. read more

Wandered into this place to be immediately greeted by their two friendly staff members. GOOD wines, great character, and knowledgeable people behind the counter. It was a gloomy semi-rainy day so the Two Amigos tasting room was a great place to spend some time chatting, tasting, and hearing stories about the owner couple. Loved the Chardonnay and the ports! They roped us into their wine club and we were made a part of the "family photo album", complete with Groucho glasses! The tastings were VERY reasonable (and they even threw in a few extra pours). I felt like I was tasting at a friend's place, a nice break from some of the snootier wineries we encountered in Napa. I will definitely be back and will recommend to others! read more

Came here as part of a wine tour through Sonoma, and this was probably my favorite stop. The selection they have here is absolutely wonderful and very pleasantly different from your run-of-the-mill wine tasting. The wine that stood out in particular to me was a pinot grigio (at least, I think it was a pinot grigio) that had a wonderfully intense pineapple aroma. Absolutely great. The atmosphere here is very casual and quite fun, as the duo of brothers that runs the winery is extremely personable (as evidenced by the delightful pictures of them and their wives in various silly get-ups) and entertaining. I really hope to return here to try more of their wines someday. read more
